Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 33

Jun 6, 2013

    1. SmoteyMote -She looks fabulous...I like Rowan, as the tree or deer. She looks so connected to the woods!

    2. I agree with Karla-chan, it seems the quickest and cheapest way is to go direct to Fairyland. We ( My daughter Allstar and I) ordered the first minifee through DDE, it took an unbearably long time and we got absolutely hammered by customs as DDE dont mark the value down.

Aww she's looking great ! My fave name is Rowan too !

    3. Thank you everyone for the kind comments so far! (I also noticed a few things bothering me about her faceup that I hope to fix before I take more photos).

Not DDE for sure. You'll be hit with customs and the wait is a lot longer than direct. I would try going with Fairyland for sure. The only downside is that you have to be able to pay in full (unless you're able to do something like Bill Me Later, which as far as I am aware, doesn't exist in the UK?). Send emails to Think Pink and Wind Dolls though and try to get an estimate on what their shipping fees would be and the liklihood of you getting hit with customs / if they will mark down to save you money.

    4. I really like Rowan or Yvette. Well done on the faceup!

    5. The way customs works if you are importing something from outside the EU then you are meant to pay import taxes. So it is as simple as if it is outside the EU then you could very well be hit. If you are importing from the EU you are fine because it is an open market :) Sometimes you get lucky and you can get them through. However the UK customs knows what the dolls are, knows they are a huge payout and looks out for them. Sadly. I don't know anything about wind of dolls, however Think Pink is in the EU through since a friend has recently bought a doll from there.

I know FL do mark down if that helps, they have marked mine down to be $100 in the past.

    6. I see. So Dealers add the price of import tax onto the price of the doll?

    7. Speaking of importing. I'm from Canada. Does anyone know how much the border charges to ship from say DDE? And if it's easier to have her sent to my warehouse on the US side and driving down to get her and bringing her across the border myself?

Also does anyone have some DES spam?

    8. I ordered my M-line body through DDE because I wanted a layaway. It doesn't matter that I'll have to pay the customs fees - it's just easier for me this way, even though I'll end up paying more in the end ;) I have good experience with DDE from the past.

Although if I had the money at hand to purchase a doll without layaway, I'd just buy straight from Fairyland. Cheaper (as in, no customs fees), less hassle.

    9. Sort of, they make an allowance for it. If you look at dealer prices that know they have to pay import taxes they do tend to be a little more to the up front price of the doll. So they don't add it as an extra charge once you have agreed to pay. So once you add the shipping you do know that is all you have to pay if it is from a EU country.

There is little point going with DDE since they are in the US and you would still have to pay for shipping from the US which is not that much different from Asia and since it is outside the EU you could still be hit with import taxes.

    10. A mod board is such a good idea! Haha yeah...face tattoos that can be intimidating...since...it'll always be there.
Haha that's ok. Not everyone is. :] When my husband was in AIT for the army we would play MMOs and have our headsets on in order to have fun and bond. It really helped. <3 He was there for a year. xD
Squee! This is so funny. xD Ari is an Eladrin too. <3 She's a wizard with an orb. O: Except...she has blond hair and solid violet eyes. Haha. Talk about opposites, but similar taste. :]

Ooh thank you! Any chance you'd be will to take a front and profile shot for me? O u O

xD Ooooh ok. <3 I understand. Well, so long as you don't want the Moe body you have plenty of time to decide. I just wouldn't rush it to be honest.
Hehe...I don't want to be known as "the person who only has Karsh's." XD I would probably do it too. It's my favorite sculpt, but...gosh...I only need...two...maybe. .___. Dang it...why did I do that to myself. XD Curse you!!!!
Maybe you could also think about which you would be more upset if you didn't have?

Hmm...I think she looks like a Ayva.

    11. I like Ayva and Xylia the most :) I have looked up for some names aswell for you, if you like any: Miluiel, Nellethiel, Naevia, Vanadessë, Minaethiel(=unique), Keela(=beauty that cannot even be described by poetry), Maethoriel, Shyael.

I would agree to this. I have ordered mine through DDE just cause of the Layaway program and I would be traveling anyways, so waiting is no problem for me. Shipping is more expensive though from DDE.

I think she is fabulous!!! And regarding that, I really do think that Fairyland should do a layaway program or something... It's silly xD

    12. From what I've heard, you'd be better off driving down and bringing her across yourself. I think DDE only ships to Canada through FedEx, and FedEx adds a "handling fee" onto Canadian orders, in addition to the customs charges so you get hit with a double wallop!
(I also passionately hate FedEx ever since they "lost" a pair of DZ jointed claw hands - you know, the ones they don't make anymore - and basically told me it wasn't their problem that I couldn't just get another pair, because they're "only doll hands" :x)

    13. I do often have a very set idea what I want, I just can't do it for myself. It was actually one of the face-up artists who suggested making a mood board to help. I see that is a cute story about you and your husband.

That is cool about your Ari, plus she sounds more typical of an Eladrin. Ico is pretty much a squip and can't do magic so she is very bitter about it and hates wizards and blames Corellon for not being able to do magic. Ico is actually evil though. I basically ended up with her because I needed an evil character concept, but I ended up really liking her.

Does Think Pink offer layaway though? If so it could be worth weighing up.

    14. Oh my word, that's awful! Even worse that they only go through FedEx. There really is no worse company out there for handling and for Deliveries. Especially here. They pretend to come to the door and then just say you didn't want your package.
Looks like I will end up shipping her to my warehouse. Thank the stars they have added measures to make sure everything is taken care of properly there. So I know she wont get damaged.

Thank you so much for answering!
Now that I think on it. It may even be quicker to do it the drive way. Since I live an hour from the border~

    15. I just checked it out and Think Pink does offer layaway and the prices for a Minifee is like on Fairyland 397... But it's Euros. That being 523$ and without the shipping. I ordered my doll over DDE with faceup and with shipping together it was about that much. If I do get some customs taxed, I might pay another 20$, but it shouldn't be more than that.

    16. I see, UK customs tax for a doll is roughly £13.50 for release of the papers plus 20% of the value of the item. Since FL mark down it has cost me about £30 to get them into the country. So it probably is cheaper to go through FL even if you do get hit by import taxes.

    17. Oh so that's not too bad :) But agreed, sounds like the best option. I will have to see if I do get taxed on my Celine. It's the first time ordering a brand new whole Minifee doll for me.

    18. It's very good to be decisive. Haha. Unlike me...well...sometimes. When I know what I want then I'm good. Thanks. XD
She is a very typical Eladrin. My like a brother friend actually made her for me since she was my very first character and he knew my tastes.
Wes: "Hey, I made you an Eladrin wizard for the game."
      Me:"Oh, what's that?"
Wes: "It's like a fairy elf fae thing."
      Me:"...Pointy ears and pretty?"
      Wes:"Yep."
      Me:"Perfect!"
Though, I'm not a girly girl, I am fairly frilly and floofy. lol I really like that Ico isn't typical though. That character backstory is actually very awesome! I really really like the sounds of Ico even if she is evil! :D I always enjoy characters like that. I sometimes end up doing a crap job at making them so I always admire those who do. :] Man...now I wish I lived in the UK so we could game and have our dolls there. lol

    19. That does depend on FL marking down. However all 3 of the dolls I have bought from there have been marked at $100. It is bad if you get hit for full value for some reason. My WD got hit at full value and she cost me £73 just to get in!

Lol, that is pretty cool! I was talked into playing an Eladrin by my partner in a way because I asked him to help me come up with an evil character concept. So mine went:

Me: Brad I need an evil character concept that isn't a drow.
Brad: Well you could play an evil Eladrin.
Me: Nah, that kind of sucks!
Brad: But look how messed up mine are.
      Me: True
Brad: And for giggles you could make her a Lolth worshipper.
Me: Damn it, I know story that supports that!

I think it is easier to make characters for role-play especailly when you have played with them for a bit. I think you really have to think about them more rather then just writing about them. That sounds so cool actually. Although it is a shame you don't have a doll version of Ari, that would be cool!

I am happy you like Ico, I am also very found of her doll form! :)

    20. Lol that's awesome!!! That's so funny how you ended up with her but very cool.

I usually like to play as a character before officially deciding to keep them or not. If i don't like them then I revamp or scrap. I had a Feeple65 Juri 2012 summer event head that was going to be Ari, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut she was so HUGE. I couldn't deal with it. I might turn her into an MNF. But...the only other elf sculpt that would work is probably Karsh...Eliya would work if her eyes weren't so wide. I guess I could get a sleeping head and then have someone mod her eyes open. Orrrr find a different company. lol.

    21. Most people find that story funny. :) I ended up coming up with how she acts and most of the details. I see she would end up being a lot bigger. FL do event heads sometimes that are MNF elves so it might be worth keeping an eye out for that. Especially since you told me your MNF wish list was pretty long any way. Plus there is many companies!

MNF Shushu I just really like for Ico, I think she almost looks like she is up to something with a cheeky smile. I wish I could have got the elf version, but I don't worry too much since she has big brushy hair. It is why I have not looked into getting her modded because I don't think you'd see it any way.

    22. Painless Silver, I'm waiting for my first minifee now but when I asked a local friend he said he paid $140 to customs ordering DDE; it's only good for layaway! We're in Vancouver. Driving across the border can be a hazzle so good luck.

    23. SmoteyMote, your Siean is really cute!
Which wig size does she wear, if I may ask? (I wonder if Siean heads are as large as Chloes, who can wear 7-8" wigs, or if they are smaller.)

    24. And again someone who says Chloe has a big head. I swear people don't know if she has a big head or small head. lol I've seen people say she has a small head.

As far as Siean goes I have had my girl wearing 6-7 and 7-8. The 6-7 from Leeke is really tight but doesn't move once on. The 7-8 from Leeke also fits nicely too but it's not super tight.

    25. My Chloe couldn't wear a 7-8 to save her life- It would fall right off, or completely cover her eyes. XD She's in a 6-7, which I luckily bought after stalking this thread. (My Lishe on the other hand, refused to wear the same wig, and has a -much- larger head, but was able to be 'coaxed' into wearing a different 6-7.) It makes me wonder what size I should be looking at for my Ante...I suppose I could always just use a wig-cap- but they can be a little tricky depending on the 'cut' of your wig. (Say one with no bangs and a high forehead for example.) May just have to wait until she gets here to find out...

    26. You could also make your own wig cap. :] That way you can control the shape and look of it. ^^

    27. just wanted to correct this since i 1. live in canada, 2. get most of my fairyland dolls through dde and 3. refuse to do business with any us company who only ships by courier since i will not use a courier to ship across the us border because they routinely charge $30-$50 to "clear customs" on any parcel in addition to the customs charge which may only be a few dollars! parcels that come by mail only have a $5 handling fee if they get caught at all.

dde has a choice of three ways to ship to canada, courier, first class mail or priority mail. and i pick which way i want it shipped when i place my order (personally i always pick one of the mail options depending on how fast i want it to arrive) dde won't mark down the price of the doll so you do get hit with the full customs but that is $5-$7 customs handling fee charged by canada customs plus gst on the full price so you can figure out ahead of time what it will be if you need to. there is actually no customs tax per se on dolls coming into canada. just gst.

    28. Erratic Rhapsody & karla-chan: Most of my dolls are RP characters too (but I play Pathfinder, which is basically d&d 3.75 lol). My Yo-sized characters are halflings. (Revamping my Yo-SD into a character) And Nyrikki (Rix) and (maybe) my Shiwoo will be half-elves, though I'm not modding their ears. (Especially my Shiwoo since he's the first Shiwoo by LUTS). You two makes me want to put together a Skype RPing group. lol

    29. Ahaha, my chloe could never fit a 7-8 wig. I always had her in 6-7s. In fact, I don't own a single 7-8 wig at this point beside the one I keep around "just in case". I would say Chloe's head is actually on the small side but Siean's head is somewhat in the middle. Some of my 6-7 wigs fit her and others didn't at all. If they have a stretchy wig cap you should be fine. Mohair you might ask to be made on the 6.75-7 side rather than 6-6.5 size.

Same thing I'm seeing with my gal!

    30. Good to know, SmoteyMote!

My VE Chloe wears 6-7 wigs, I also purchased the same size (different wigs) for my Siean~ My 3 boys wear 7-8 though! All my dolls have a wig cap. 8)

    31. That...would be so incredibly amazing...that...I think I would die of excitement.

    32. I know, right?!

    33. OMG that boy is so cute he is like :aheartbea

now i want a tan celine

    34. SmoteyMote, I have a friend who has an Ainsley and a Rowan but they are both boys ^_^ I just thought it was funny that your list had two names that she has haha. I do like the name Rowan a lot though!

    35. I ordered a Moe line Mirwen in tan skin. So excited to start working on her character. She will be my last doll purchase for a while so I'm excited to slowly get her together.

I love all the pictures in this thread. So many beautiful dolls!!

    36. Sorry if this has been asked already, but does the Moe body use the mag-on high-heel feet or hook? I'm guessing mag-on but wanted to double check before ordering. :D

    37. according to FL the M-line does have magnet feet as the default :) I'm currently waiting for an M-line Luka, which sculpt are you ordering?

    38. I know this is kind of an odd request, but does anyone have a picture with a karsh and miyu or a karsh and a woosoo VE? I'm considering an exotic tan prince for one of my girls and Karsh came to mind. Any help would be appreciated! : 3

    39. I don't have a Miyu or a boy Karsh...anymore...but I have to say...I would say go for Karsh. ;3 But..i'm biased. lol

    40. Yeah, I'm not ordering an M-Line tan if I get a Rheia so I may have some time. And your advice is good. I think thinking about it I'd be more upset at missing out on a Tan Mirwen boy because I can just picture how he'd look so easily, whereas with the Rhiea I'm finding it difficult. I do find it hard since there's no pictures of the dolls in tan to help decide. :sweat

    41. I guess so. Haha. All I had to do was figure out which face had the right lips and nose. XD Even though there is part of me that is like, "Man...I hate how everyone wants the same thing. I wish I didn't want what I want." Kind of like "Everyone's doing it" and I don't want to be part of the group. :/

    42. I didn't even know Tan Mirwen boys would be so popular tbh. x: I for sure thought more people would want a Tan Karsh more (or Seorin maybe, but that's not an option...). But it doesn't bother me! Just lots of different ones to ogle over. XD

    43. Haha I didn't think so either. I thought Rheia, Chloe, Karsh, and Celine would be the most popular. XD Ah well. I will love my boy no matter what <3 Sojie and Ari get to be reborn as MiniFee! ...Different Ari, Karla-chan. xD Haha. I can't wait to explain that fiasco to you. lol.

I can't wait to ogle! Haha.

    44. Request for some more Celine spam? :) Preferably at side and diagonal? angle views. Some handsome Mirwen boy spam couldn't hurt either. I can't wait to see the tan Mirwens and Karshes come in. It's a shame I don't like boy dolls as much, or I'd jump on the bandwagon and get a tan boy too!

    45. I can take some Celine photos for you PuffyPuffers. :] I'm not sure if I have any of those specifically, but you can look at what I have so far on my flickr.
      Here

    46. Eeeep!!! I really do hope I won't get charged that much :(

I would say too, that she is on the small side compared to other MNF sculpts. I have a Ryeon and she is definetely a larger in head size, but they both fit 6-7" wigs very nicely :) I did understand that with the mohairs it is different. They're not very stretchy so it's better to go a size bigger.

I would honestly order a tan Karsh soooo badly!!! There's just something about that elvishness with the tan :D -drools- So perfect!!! Aha :XD:

She's so cute!!! I love your Siean also :D

    47. @ MidoriChan - That is because my WD doll was tax at her actual value. I have been hit with import on 2 of my FL dolls and it was much less. All 3 of the FL dolls I have bought have been marked at $100 I was lucky that my karsh didn't get hit.

That is cool I have played pathfinder actually! It is OK my Shushu is actually meant to be a high elf but I haven't modded her ears because her wig covers her ears any way! I have noticed that a lot of my dolls ears tend to be cover by their wigs even if they have elf ears any way. I know it can depend on the wigs though. Plus elf elves don't have big elf ears any way, so I think you could get way with it.

Lol that is cool, I think time zone differences might make that hard. Sadly. It is good to know that you have stuff in common though as well. :)

    48. Hm...I thought fur wigs always stretched more. xD Maybe mine are just weird lol. And thank you! <3 She might be getting a different face up, but that all depends on if she is really going to be my character Elora or not. If she is...then she needs a new one...if not...she is just a random doll. XD

OH! I forgot to mention about your fluffy haired Ico and the ears. I've noticed that when some dolls have ears it's actually harder to get wigs to fit, like the ears will cause the hair to stick out funny unless you style it jsut right. :3 So, I think her not having modded ears works a lot more in your favor. :D

    49. I have order dolls with elf ears and I think it depends how they are. I haven't had any trouble with the ones I have had so far. I have a RS Mei and a AS Dina and I also had a Karsh and I have never had any kind of wig problems. Although I have heard that other types of dolls with elf ears have had some issues. I think it also depends on how big the elf ears are and how they stick out.

I have seen that hair tends to cover a lot any way, which is why I don't worry about Ico so much. Since Ico's hair is bigger and fluffier then the other mohair wigs I have. It is also longer.

    50. Underrrrstood :) Thanks for letting me know!!!

Fur wigs are stretchy, it's those mohair ones that aren't. I remember I tried making a mohair wig once, but it turned out badly and it barely stretched when I tried putting it on the dolls head :sweat But someone also told me they're less stretchy than fiber or fur wigs.

    51. No problem I know customs is something you have to think about when getting a doll since it is a cost that you have to take into account. :)

    52. Most mohair wigs are still on a leather scalp, which usually has little to no give, so fitting them can be tricky. And the loose mohair/alpaca glued weft wigs because they are cut and glued to a specific head are also pretty impossible to fit anything but that head. There are mohair wigs that are sewn with wefts the way traditional fibre wigs are, but they're usually not the big poofy curly mohair most people think of when you say mohair wig.

    53. I always thought with mohair with the leather scalp that you needed to completely wet and dry it on your dolls head (with a baggie of protection) it to get a good perfect fit for your doll. Thats the only way I've gotten mine to fit right.

    54. Thanks! I'm going to order a Celine boy in tan but I'm planning to mod the sleeping head for him. I figured I'd get a Moe body for the floating tan OE head too. :)

    55. Does anybody know if magnetic high heel feet will be available after the June 30 when Moe line is temporary sold out? (I want to try make my Chloe a little bit shorter, but don't have money for any extras now:()

      P.S. And a little bit Chloe-Seorin spam:

    56. I have a question for those of you who have been in the hobby longer than I have. Was there ever an open-eyed vampire Shiwoo released? I have a vampire sleeping plate that has such a pretty face-up that I don't want to ruin it by having her eyes opened.

    57. Hiya all~ I haven't been here in 100 years, but wondering if I can also request some Celine spam as well as Shushu?

I'm having a difficult time deciding between these two for tan skin on a M-line and I don't know why it's so hard to visualize Shu, even tried some mockups but it didn't help... :doh*_*

And while I'm here I'll share some Myth spam since it's been a good while~ :clover

    58. I would also like to 2nd the Shushu spam because I love her so much and she probably is my fave FL sculpt.

Good luck in deciding I think a few of us are going through the same at the moment. I was trying to decide between DES and Karsh for my elf girl. :)

    59. I believe the vampire elf head only ever came as the sleeping head with the Luts Elf Shiwoo release way back in the day.
