Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 28

Oct 20, 2012

    1. Keep in mind that the person could have dyed the doll. I believe there is a tan mnf girl here someone has.

    2. No, there was a box opening and the horrible seamline on the doll is right across the fingers...which is unusual for minifees no? I own minifee girls and the seam usually runs parallel to the fingers if it can be seen at all

EDIT: I mean that it was clearly a newly cast doll with a box opening. Another doll included inside the same box was a larger white skin doll that clearly comes with unattached volks headplates. Both dolls were simply bubble wrapped inside an unmarked brown box.

I think maybe i'm not a good judge but here is a link to the flickr photo of the seamlines on the hands.

      http://www.flickr.com/photos/wildcard_snowy/8079919601/in/photostream

EDIT2: Ah i just read the caption for that photo and it says there was extra resin in the toes and seamlines that she had to remove....which shows the doll was cast tan not dyed.

    3. I see now. You could ask where he/she got their doll instead of outright asking if it was a recast. They may not know it was a recast. Or if they do know, they may not care. I guess you have to decided if you want to take a chance on drama happening or not. I also don't approve of recast dolls, but that is why I will not buy one.

    4. Personally I am very anti-recast, and will say why I personally think it is wrong. However please don't start a witch hunt or anything like that or attack the person with the potential re-cast. Any kind of bullying or harassment I always see as wrong.

If they try and do something naughty like sell it on as a legit doll (or even if they try and sell it on, on some sites), then please just contact the site where it is being sold. It will probably be removed since it is illegal.

The only weird thing though, I heard re-casts always had their seems sanded?

    5. You're right karla-chan. I had known about this for several days and didn't know what to do. It is indeed better to contact this person and ask if they knew. They are on DOA but that doesn't mean they know anything about recasts.

    6. There are all kinds of reasons, you don't know the full story and it is best not to point fingers. The doll can be second hand and all sorts which is common in this hobby. I honestly think you are best leaving it completely unless you see people trying to sell re-cast dolls. Then rather the contacting the person, contact the people in charge of where they are trying to sell. A lot of people who buy them know what they are doing and sadly don't care only a small number are people being conned.

    7. I recently had a friend who bought a doll and when he got it, found out it was recast. Long story short, he was NOT happy at all! The place where he bought the doll ignored all of his inquiries about the doll so he is out a couple hundred dollars.

I don't support bullying either, which is why I said that person may have not realized the Karsh was recast. Though if they know anything about Fairyland, they'd probably know that the only dolls that have been in tan have been a couple of the chic lines and the choco puki which are also no longer being made.

I am sad about this because Karsh does look good in tan. Maybe if I get brave and want to try out dying....

    8. Although DoA is firmly anti-recasting, DoA is not the BJD-police. The moderators accept that some members may choose to purchase recasts. DoA members that do own recasts are free to do what they wish with their own collections, as long as they do not display their recast dolls on DoA or discuss them or attempt to sell them via the Marketplace. If the person who owns this Karsh is on DoA and doesn't bring their doll to DoA, they are not breaking any forum rules, although they may now feel pushed out of this thread because the way this discussion has turned.

Whether you choose to remain friends with or follow someone who owns recasts is very much your own decision, but please do not call someone out for owning a recast when a) they may not, and b) if they do, they haven't brought the recast doll to DoA. If you have information to the contrary, please contact a moderator.

      ---------
I was under the impression that the majority of recast dolls were sanded (because of the way recasts are made - with metal moulds that last for a lot longer than silicone moulds - seamlines are so big or misaligned that sanding is a necessity), so perhaps the seamlines are there because the doll was dyed tan? When I owned a Minifee, my #6 hands had seams right over the knuckle on the right hand, so seams over the hand do occur in genuine Fairyland sculpts.

    9. I do wish FL made tan resin.

I am sorry to hear about your friend, try looking into a Paypal claim if they where conned because they didn't get what they paid for so that is grounds for a claim.

    10. LuckyXIII , Karsh does look good in tan lol. Perhaps one day he will be released in tan. If you are going to dye a doll I would be interested to see. I'm not so brave myself. At least the normal skin from Fairyland isn't super pale. It's a good match for the old pink skin from Granado so I'm going to try to do a hybrid ^___^.

    11. There is that! :) It is darker then the resin that Resinsoul do, the "normal skin" RS resin is very pale compared to the FL resin. I am happy about that because I want my dolls to look like they have different skin tones because people IRL do. :)

    12. Oh if I try dying it will not be on such an expensive doll! Maybe I'll get one of the lower priced ones and try it out first. I love tan dolls so much now. I wish all companies offered tan, even if it was not all the time. Maybe a week every other month or something.

I have been thinking about getting a white skin doll recently which is unusual for me. I don't have any (except for an OT one I just got, but it's a cat so I'm fine with it). I'm just worried I'll get the doll and not be able to bond because of the color. Pale dolls are so much harder to take pictures of too. Decisions, decisions!

    13. Plus dying can go wrong and spraying it after can chip. One girl on this thread has had recent experience with dying her doll.

The problem with tan skin is because the dolls are made from resin they have their own issues. It is why some of the companies that do offer it as a option do warn people that it can marble. Also tan dolls you can't sand as well because you can get lighter marks where you have sanded it.

Plus you need to have a separate dye (where you cast the resin) for them because different resin colours can dye them and they can't be used to make other coloured resin. Which is why some companies offer it for a limited time only so they can do a lot in that colour and then give it a good clean and make sure all the colour is out for other dolls.

Plus one thing I worry about, is that some tan skins can go green!

White skin can be hard to photograph, but there are tricks to it. I found it hard to photograph my WS doll at first, especailly the other dolls I had at the time where a dark-ish purple or NS. You just have to be careful not to over expose the picture so you don't lose detail. But if you like it and it works for the potential character you have in mind go for it.

    14. LuckyXIII - I thought taking pictures of a white skinned doll would be harder until I actually owned one. They are lovely to picture actually. Almost all the dollies I have (including MNF are white skin). :) I had problems with normal skin showing to pale - haha!

Here's an example pic of Manu (my beauty white Karsh) - and an excuse to spam! :)

    15. Weird about the tan Karsh, he does look good. Anyway...I was playing around with Ophelia today and put her back in some clothes I had originally had for her. I also restyled her hair and put in some other eyes I had around for fun. Here she is with a little wolf I found at the store the other day ^_^ for some reason her one eye looks odd in this pic, must've been the lighting *_*

    16. I will have to put more thought into a white skinned doll. I have a ghost character who I had as a puki but I no longer have them, but her character is bugging me again! I was thinking maybe a Marcia, but first I need to get bodies for floaters first.

I use daylight bulbs in my rooms since I don't often get outside to take pictures while it is light out (work full time and so it's just about dark when I get home, gah). Even using those, it's hard to photograph my dolls. My camera hates me! lol.

    17. Ravenwolf - OOOH! I like it a lot! Ophelia is so beautiful! I really would love a VE Shushu - but I think those are even rarer than Juri 08's and VE Chloe's lol >.>

    18. Beautiful girl Ravenwolf! Her blue wig looks great on her.

LuckyXIII, I agree with trying out a cheaper doll first but I also know different types of resins take on dyes differently. I have both tan dolls and white skin dolls. I just need to make sure the photo isn't overexposed when i take photos of white dolls. It helps to photograph them in light colored settings as well. The problem comes when you photograph white skin dolls next to tan skin dolls. LIghting and adjusting the shot for both skintones is tricky.

    19. Hello friends in DOA.
I finally present my Minifee Chloe. I have her for a few months but didn't have her wig. I bought her eyes from Ginarolo here at DOA. I hope you like her :)

    20. @Lis - You're Chloe is so pretty!!! :D

    21. Welcome to this thread .LiS., your girl looks beautiful ^^

    22. Hi Lis your Chloe is beautiful!

Thank you for the comments on Ophelia!! :D

    23. He's cute :3 I wouldn't have pegged him to be a white skin, either!

      I love her outfit :D

The whole time I've been in this hobby, I've only seen two VE Shushus. And I found the first one only a few months ago. At first, I thought it was just a modded Shushu. Lol.

She looks lovely. :) Welcome to the thread!

    24. I've had Lee for a few years now, but he had an unfortunate faceup and spent a lot of time in a box between college and moving. He got a new faceup yesterday, though, and it really made him come to life. :aheartbea I thought I'd share him with everyone!

    25. I am loving all the spam and Karsh does look really good in tan

    26. That Karsh looks good in tan, although I am kind of not a big fan of recast. Oh well!
Until my Karsh gets back-More Luka?

    27. Thanks Sugar!!!! :fangirl:

Cute pic of Chris dollyb :D

    28. Speaking of Tan! I have two tan mnf heads from when luts released tan lishe and ive been trying to hunt down bodies for them. Does anyone have any clue if resinsoul bodies in dark tan would work? Ive seen plenty of rs/mnf hybrids and ill need some neckpieces but im mostly worried about how close the tans are?

Also, I think somewehere on the board is a minifee on a new NL soulkid body... Id really love to see that with some full minifees. Ive been trying to plan out my crew and i try to get some diversity when it comes to bodies ^^;; Thanks everyone!

    29. RS have a few different shades of tan so that is an advantage. They have light tan as well as dark tan/coffee (which I think are the same shade) I don't know how good they are as a match though because the tan MNFs are so rare I don't know any one with both.

It would be hard to tell off photo's because of computer differences etc.

    30. Not sure if it helps-But my MNF Luka was put on a newer RS body and the match was almost right on!
Both were NS and from 2011/2012. :3

      Thanks Ravenwolf! :D

    31. I think the lighter tan/coffee color would probably work better because the dark tan is more of a chocolate-brown color. That being said, you will most likely have to blush either the head or the body to match because RS's tan doesn't have as much of a warm undertone like the CP tan.

    32. Drive by Marcy spam!

    33. I can't believe how obsessed I've become of Mnfs in the past few weeks. I went from wanting two to wanting six. Lol.

I think the Fairyland bug got me somehow. OTL

    34. here some photo of my Juliette (MNF Shushu). ^^
      [IMG]

Sorry, that I haven't yet add some photo of my Kaspia as I promised, but I have so much work right now, so I haven't time for my dolls or things like that.

Beautifuls dolls here as always!! :>

    35. Teehee. :3 She's still trying to find herself after her brother abandoned her, so I guess any recognition should make her feel better about herself. :P

She's so pretty. :3 It seems Shushu owners make me want a Shushu. :P

    36. Drive by spam of Christina! Won't be seeing much of her until she gets her mnf body :3 Yup,she's finally gonna get her A-line body :D
      [IMG]

    37. Pete's still not photographing well for me... My other boys would photograph well for me even before/without faceups, Pete is just being fussy I think.

      http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h319/DanaksZoul/Standing_zps845112cf.jpg

Well, I did get him to stand-- for this one, he's not actually using the sewing machine for support, I just had the best light in the craft nook-- so he's not being a total brat to me. Anyway, he's a Carl, and we're happy to see more boys in the thread.

(his faceup is going to be very pink, when I have the room in the craft nook to get it done and the rain stops to allow me to spray him)

    38. Reminder

Please could thread regulars remember that when quoting a post containing a picture the picture needs to be removed from the quote or turned into a link, (you can do this by changing the tag to a [URL] tag.) Quoting the same picture repeatedly makes the thread slow to load and has an impact on the whole forum as well - which is the reason quoting pictures was not allowed to begin with.

Additionally, it is still one-picture-per-post in Discussion threads. If you have a Gallery thread or off-forum Flickr set you'd like to share as well, feel free to include a link in your post!

    39. That was me. I apologize. When I posted the reply the picture didn't show up in the quote, probably a graphics issue on my part. I tried to go back and edit the reply when I got the mod email, but the thread was locked.

Anyway, does anyone think that that there will be a minifee event after the feeple60 body event? I'm debating about ordering a body and ordering a minfee and get the free shipping and the event head. But then I want to wait for a possible event for a new minifee.

    40. I'm hoping there is a winter event after this event because my desire to order my minifee has been delayed due to money right now. So I'm hoping by the time I'm ready there will be an event.

Loving everyone's pictures in this new thread. It's getting my by until I can buy mine. :)

    41. I like looking at dolls when I am waiting for one too. I find it strangely helps.

    42. xxsugarxpopzxx: Thanks. :> Then you just have to get Shushu some day. :DD

    43. I agree, I just love seeing what people do with their own dolls. And to any who are waiting, I'll add a little Falyn spam for ya ;) This one's from the last shoot but I was so impressed with how well my gal held this pose - MNFs are truly amazing !

    44. I love seeing your dolls Ban Sidhe! They have great style.

    45. I plan on it, one day!

Just to make sure before I commit to buying a wig, a VE Woosoo fits into 6-7 wigs, correct?

    46. Awww, thanks !!!

Mine wore a 6-7 Monique but also fit a 6.5 Leeke

    47. she looks great ban! love the pose

    48. I love seeing owner pictures as well, it can be very helpful. It is why I don't actually bother joining the waiting rooms when I am waiting, I will join the actual thread because I do enjoy the spam. I am not even sure why it helps, it just does. It is the only time I will look at box openings too actually.

That bow is amazing! She looks so great!

    49. Ban Sidhe - What a great photo of your lovely Falyn! :D

    50. This is such a pretty picture you are so creative Ban

    51. Wooo, I'm quite exited, but I can't bounce up and down in my chair until it's fully certain xD
One of my friends is selling her Marcia to me. She had mentioned before about thinking of selling her and I let her know I would be interested.
Sadly, I don't have a lot of money right now, but because she's quite yellowed I'm getting her for a very friendly price, so it won't be that long until I can get her. But I don't want to jump for joy yet, until she is in my hands xD

    52. @Snow - That's super exciting, congrats! :D

    53. I am a similar position too, Snow. I snagged an old Luts tanning MNF Lishe from eBay but until she's in my hands it isn't official!

Hope I can share my girl here when she comes even though technically she is from Luts and not FL?

Does Lishe wear size 7/8 or 6/7 in wigs?

    54. I was apart of the quoting image thing. xD
      Don't see how though...I replied to someone,and underneath I posted a pic..?

Anyways....:-/ My Ryeon plans are on hold until my break from school. (Which will be this coming up May-September). But I have the perfect character in mind. She is gonna be a character from a movie I watched,so I give all copyright of the character to those people..but ;)

    55. I've been wanting this for a very long time, but finally Calliope has her guitar

    56. Thanks for the replies on the tan skin everyone! I think they will be getting some dark tan rs bodies eventually... It will be easier to blush the head darker than the body darker if they are off.. Now im just going to sit back and wait for all the christmas events.. Im excited :)

Also, wow everyone has great props! Reminds me to start working on my 1/4 scale room boxes...

    57. Shannon did a modelling gig today where she tried out her take on "Bohemian".

    58. Wovenflame - Shannon is a cutie :)

I'm having mental dolly problems. The head isn't even here yet and I'm already stressing over an eye opening mod. I don't know how I want her eyes to be. I don't really want them to be like normal Woosoo eyes since they are a little too dreamy for my taste on this character but at the same time if I get them modded to be more open and such instead of less dreamy, I won't like them because I haven't found a Woosoo with any eye mods like that. Any ideas to help ease my mind?

    59. i have not shared stormie since she got her new look. it still needs a few things (i miss her having skull beads) but here she is :)
