Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 27

I have a quick question, I just noticed yesterday that Haven's (Karsh) headcap is really loose, like it can just fall off easily. Is there anything anyone has ever done to fix that problem? I tried to search but haven't found anything so far. Thanks! Love all the spam!

Ravenwolf, my Seorin has the same problem. I use a silicone headcap/headdome. It cost $5 from DDE and keeps the headplate on, plus it prevents wig staining. All of my dolls get headcaps now

 

I did get one of those bronzephoenix, but it still seems like it'll pop off I guess I just have to be careful. It's funny because my shushu's headcap is really tight haha.

 

Ravenwolf, a friend of mine who sculpts and has fairland dolls said she used a bit of putty to snug it in on the one she had that was loose. We were talking about our strong dislike of stupid magnets and that's how it came up. Just make sure you use a putty that is a light or nonpigmented color so that it doesn't stain the interior of the cap.. I have some pale yellow stuff that I got that is making it so my Cain's headcap doesn't fly off, but his doesn't have any kind of registration at all so it was necessary. That being said... it's wicked tight and I have to wiggle it to get enough play to yank it off.

Really?! Hot glue? That sounds rather....difficult to undo. I know it can be peeled off of sueded joints, but would you be able to get at it when it is between a head and a headback? I know you don't want the head back to fall off, but you do still need to be able to get it off occasionally to move eyes, restring, take the head off and so forth.

 

I'd also suggest putty - I use white stickytack. My Minifees are all fine, but my Dolkot boy has a magnetic headcap that likes to fall off (and removable ears that fly off when it does) so I've got it stuck all in there keeping the ears on and headcap tight.

 

Best thing for loose headcaps is masking tape, I've found. The putty or stickytack will collect hair from the wig and get all messed up, in my experience. several of my dolls have it. The masking tape is right behind their ears and doesn't leave a residue or upset the faceup.

 

I use the putty on the inside in an area so that it will reduce slippage and not allow the cap to shift unless I mean for it to and in a place where I have to squish it to get the headcap closed and in place so it holds firm. Cain's hair is down past his knees and he's on a 70 so.... I would totally freak if there was any way any kind of stickyness got near his wig, LOL. Dealing with that hair is daunting on it's own without the risk of goo, LOL. If you use putty, make sure it is on the inside where the overlaps are in the head and not anywhere that would be exposed. I should have mentioned that before! I could have caused a serious fiasco! I'm so sorry.

 

That's how I do it too, tiny spots of it on the inner rim of the headcap. It doesn't really get near the hair. That said, I've also been known to put a glob of stickytack on the head to help hold wigs on, occasionally. I use a kind that leaves no residue and haven't had any problems with it. I have also used a tiny dab of it to hold the hair down in front of the ears when it's wanting to stick out, but only with fur wigs.

 

AmyAngel- Where do you usually find your stickytack? I've been wanting to use some as eye putty for a while, but don't know where to get it.

And Adina's heeled feetsies shipped out today, but that unfortunately means they won't be here in time for the meet tomorrow. At least they should be here by Monday, and I'll be taking plenty of pics when they arrive! ^u^

 

I've found it at Office Max, their store-brand kind. I keep thinking I've found some at Hobby Lobby too, but I might be wrong about that. Sometimes I find it in other stores with the office supplies, but they more often have the yellow kind. It's been a while since I've bought any, a pack seems to last forever even using it for eyes, headcaps, wigs, keeping shoes on the Puki, to hold props in the dolls' hands...

Too bad about the feet! I'm looking forward to seeing photos! I've packed up 3 Minifees plus a Minifee hybrid for the meet, and I'm excited to finally go to one again.

I've got Jester (Karsh), Jack (Scar Breakaway/Dollzone hybrid), Kestrel (Seorin) and Marnie (Sleeping Woosoo mod)! Plus 2 non-Minifees, and 4 tinies, LOL! I've got a rolling bag with them all packed in it.

This has been the mst confusing exhausting, stress inducing past couple of days. After much soul searching I've deicded to let go of Chloe in favor of a SP Rheia Mod and wait on feeple60. This was a tough decision but I think I'll be happier in the long run since I'll finally feel like I have character I originally intended. That was long at any rate I am really happy about my choice and can't wait to show you all my new girl!

Panalaya, my Juri '08 just called. She's all finished at the spa and is ready to travel home next week. Here's a link to her pretty, custom faceup by Ban Sidhe. Oh wow, I thought that was just my Karsh. Yeah, it falls off all the time. Even when I use the rubber band trick. It just pulls the band and head cap off together Although, I have not had his sleeping head out to see if that is a problem there too. I have not had a chance to fix it. I was thinking about hot-glue suedeing it?

EDIT: aanndd cuz I'm trying to catch up on 160+ posts I see you got an answer...Those ideas sound good and I think I will try them too.

pokori As far as I know, it can be done ^ ^ I rememebr seeing a body once in the MP of a boy with cutie legs and I wanted to try it too. I'm not saying I'm 100% sure it doesn't need modding though, since I've got no idea if that person with that body had modded.

 

But aren't cutie legs just as tall as boy legs? I thought model legs was the ones who where shorter...
