One thing that's great about DES is that she's so versatile! She can look innocent, seductive, pissed, etc. just depending on faceup and camera angles!

 

karrigankat, your Chloe is beautiful, I just love her faceup, did you do it yourself?

My Shushu head should arrive today, but I got asked to go to the lake and the weather is just too friggin' awesome to pass ... so I will probably have to pick her up at the post office tomorrow, or from the neighbours tonight if I'm lucky.

-edit- Okay - I "have" the.most.awesome.delivery woman ever!!!! She delivers dolls and doll stuff to my doorstep quite frequently lol, so at some point we exchanged phone nos so she could Whatsapp me to ask me where I was. She would even deliver at my job if it was more convenient, I'd just IM her. So today I sent her a message on Whatsapp saying I'd be out of the house soon - and even though she usually comes to our neighbourhood around 4.30 pm, she stopped by just now to deliver my Shushu head!! I am so thrilled!! Now I can try some eyes on her before I go to the lake and tonight I'll try and do her faceup ^^ Yaaaaaaay!!!!!

I would like to request some Shushu in different eye sizes, anyone? I just got my Shushu but I am not happy about her 16mm defaults so I am wondering which would be the perfect size for her 12mm or 14mm! Some pics of your wonderful Shushu's would be welcome!

Sofia your Shushu is adorable! I agree that 16mm are waaaaay too big in her. 14 seem ok but I have a hard time positioning them inside her head. I'm thinking 12s would be best, but I don't have any on hand so I can't test it out for sure yet.


Both girls are wearing 14mm ED eyes, but the size suits Chloe much better I think.

Hi! I'm gonna be that annoying lurker that pops in to post a question and then goes back into hiding.

My Shushu's new body arrived yesterday, an A-line to replace her B-line, and I'm wondering if anyone has some serious difficulty getting elbows to bend past 90º? Is there just some secret to their odd little elbow joints that I'm missing? Or are her arms maybe just strung too tight or something? I'm rather perplexed, especially as the rest of her poses beautifully and fluidly.

My Sebastian's body arrived today! I LOVE it. Its my first a-line Minifee body and I'm amazed, he's so perfect! He is very happy because he got a hat too! It was supposed to be for my OT girl but its a bit big for her so Sebastian got it. He's very pleased with himself. (He doesn't know I'm going to make him share it!)

 

I've had a couple of issues with my DES's elbows because of the locking mechanism, but in that case I just grip the arm closer to the joint to get it to bend properly. The little locks in the elbow are what cause it to be so finicky, but they're also one of the reasons MNFs are able to hold their poses so well.

 

I had a moment of boredom last night and wiped Isaiah's sleeping plate and turned it into it's own thing...

Reminds me of a sister or something for him.. x-x; Not sure how I feel about her... since I still see Lishe as a masculine mold...( the MNF version anyway )

 

I don't know if they actually can move much past 90º, Eiridel. I've found that the slight bit past 90º is plenty. With that much Panalaya can easily touch her face. How deep of a bend were you trying to achieve?

Don't forget that with the double joint it bends at both ends of the peanut like elbow. So you can hold it and bend it first at one arm section and then at the other.

They should be able to bend this far. When new they are a little stiffer and might need some coaxing

 

This is about as far as I'm able to bend them right now, which makes any sort of face-touching impossible.



I'll just have to be less afraid to bend them a bit more firmly. I was being a scaredy-cat about possibly breaking my brand new doll body. D: Thank you for the replies!

 

Edit: I replied just as you posted. So uh, I still recommend pulling the arm apart and resettling it. That could help. Just hold both the upper arm and lower arm and pull gently and see if anything is twisted or caught?!

I can't imagine why it wouldn't bend further? Maybe pull the arm out and make sure nothing is stuck or twisted around. That's usually the problem I had if the arms or legs got wonky.

(pardon the lousy shots it's raining outside and i didn't have time to set up tripod/lights inside) she has posed like this since i got her. if you check my flikr page for the other two ember has one arm that bends well and one that goes just past 90 degrees and neither of shaelyn's go much past 90. both of them need major adjusting since they pose poorly overall and life right now means i don't have time/energy to figure out what needs to be done. though oddly while playing just now i got shaelyn's arms to go in but embers right arm won't bend no matter what i do :shrug

anyway this is just to confirm that when strung correctly the arms should pose much closer to the body than 90 degrees. good luck

I tried 16mm eyes in my Shushu and they're waaaay too big. All the 14mm's I have are too big too. I'll have to take her head to Think Pink with me tomorrow, to find her some new eyes ^^. Can't wait! I'll also be picking up some high heel feet and black resin MNF pumps.

Speaking of those pumps... Does anybody here have them..? And if you do, have you decorated them yourselves..? I'm looking for pic spam, so far I haven't been able to find any at all!!

Shushu has always been my grail MNF but now that I have her head, no matter how much I love it, I think Karsh will claim the body

 

Did you buy the doll second hand? I'm thinking that the elbow joint was put in the opposite way either from restringing or from being put in the wrong way during production.

 

I talked to someone at a bjd meetup that wished Fairyland had updated the Minifee Beauty line with the same elbow joints that the Active Line has. My question is has anyone ever placed the Active line elbows on a Beauty Line body? I love the possibility that body parts could be swapped between the two types of Minifees?

 

I'm so upset ;__; I just got a pair of dollshe urethanes for Mao, and they were so lovely that I took him outside for the first time for pics. Right after the first one he fell and his faceup chipped around his lip. That's not all, after frantically working to fix the chip, I noticed a spot on one of his eyes. I had a magic eraser in my hand so I used that to wiped it away. NEVER USE MAGIC ERASERS ON URETHANE EYES. It made super tiny scratches and took the shine off the eye, right on the pupil where it's most important. I haven't even had these eyes for a day and I messed them up. I feel like crying. Is there a way to polish urethane eyes or am I out of luck? The eye isn't completely ruined, but I'm sadly a perfectionist and since I know the dullness is there I notice it.

Botflybaby: I did the same thing to some glass eyes a friend gave me, but I tried a nail buffer and buffed out the scratches and it was back to shiny normal.

 

I have them - two pair to be exact 'cause I AM gonna mod the one pair, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm gonna do them either white or silver and maybe add a little something extra. I'll have to remember to post a pic when I'm done

I think it would be more likely to swap out the whole arm completely. I imagine the arms are sculpted specifically just for the elbow joints to fit.

Botflybaby - Awe I'm so sorry that happened! What a bad series of unfortunately events. Maybe a nail buffer would help? You know the really soft pads that you use to make your nails shiny?

 

Maybe that could work...I'm just really worried because urethane is apparently super soft and so easy to scratch. I'm really scared of making it worse to the point where the eye is isnt usable. Right now I can still use it, but if it gets any more scratched I won't be able to. x.x

Edit: I just saw you suggested the same thing Gothic-Diurnal-Hime So that's two votes for a nail buffer...

 

I mentioned that I tried the nail buffer on glass eyes once in the post after your first one and it works but you have to go slowly on it. It works!

Edit: Okay, Botflybaby. You can do it!!

 

I think I just need to work up the bravery to try it. I know urethane is softer than glass, but it can't be any softer than a human nail, and if a human nail can look shiny after using a nail buffer, then...a urethane eye should too...

 

Bot D: is it bad of me to not see any faceup booboos? ;-;! He looks so good.. x-x;; I don't see it ...

If you're afraid something might go wrong, test the buffing on the back of the eye to see if you like the final result. You can do it!! Uzi and I are cheering you on!

SmoteyMote, auntbear, and Gothic-Diurnal-Hime, spurred on by your photos of bent armed girls I went back and tried Panalaya again. Turns out that the one elbow I tried on her was the only one that was as limited as my photo. With a bit of futzin' around I was able to get it more mobile. Then Morganna wanted to get in on the act too and I ended up with these two photos:

The chip above the lip is not noticable in the photo Botflybaby. I only saw it after your second post explaining exactly where it was. Unfortunately yeah, the blur on the eye is noticable and like you say, right where you tend to look. Shoot. Well if you do use the nail buffer be sure to use it on a hidden spot to test it first. The friction from those nail buffers create a bit of heat when used vigorously so go slow!

 

Hm... Are the nail buffers you guys are talking about actually motorized? I was thinking they were just a soft pad of something that you'd rub on your nails! Now I'm confused, lol, I don't want to get the wrong thing!

This is super late, but omg, karrigankat, I'm so excited to hear you have a DES and are excited about it! Not many people have DES's, or those that do don't post about them much...either way, yay for you! And kaschan is totally right, DES is super adaptable to any look. I currently have 12mm eyes in Fionha, but I think I would recommend 14mm for DES. Her eyes are just so huge! And 14mm allow for different positioning for different looks better than 16mm do. ^^

Hubluh, Fionha spams in one of those hats. I hadn't ever seen another one until right after I ordered mine and then they were EVERYWHERE! XD

 

Hey Botflybaby I love the face up on your Mirwen boy and he still looks awesome even after his tumble. The

scratches on the urethane eye are really not noticeable, in fact the scratches might make him even way cooler!
