Hi all I have a question I have a MNF A-line muscular boy body that I got off the MP a while ago for my El, and it seems no matter what I do when I try to restring him, one side always ends up loose and the other super tight, I was wondering if that is maybe the fault of the elastic? Maybe it's old and worn...I'm not sure, but I even had my husband help me string him tonight and we each did a leg at the same time, and still that happened. He's definitely better than he was, but still weird that the one is coming out so much tighter!! thanks in advance!

 

@blueskiesnorain: I don't have much to add to the discussion besides this: having someone close to you disapprove of what you're doing is a real test of passion. As was mentioned before, your mom might be disappointed that you spent so much money in this hobby because your first doll disappointed you. It might not even be about money; she might be less concerned about the amount of money itself and more concerned that you're spending the money without knowing exactly what it is that you really want. I know how it's been hard on my mother when I've gotten really excited about something, spent a lot of time and effort on it, and then fallen out of love with it (like my college major).

Especially in this thread, with all this beautiful picspam, it's so easy to fall in love with the image of a doll. It's harder to determine whether or not you REALLY love it deep down. There have been dolls that I said I wanted, but when it came right down to it, I didn't really, truly want the doll after all. I just liked it because it was pretty, or because it seemed really popular, but I couldn't see myself really owning it and bonding with it. On the other hand, I have dolls that I have fallen completely in love with from the day I opened them, and would never dream of letting anyone talk me into getting rid of them, and every time I play with them I feel like they become more beautiful to me, and we just bond more and more.

With this kind of issue, I think the best solution is definitely very open communication. When you've really examined your own motives, been honest with yourself, and become sure of your passion, it makes you stronger and allows you to be honest with someone else, especially when they're so close to you. Even if they still don't understand you after you've had a chance to explain how you feel, you'll have tried, you'll be sure of your own stance on the situation, and it may even help you know what to do next. I guess in this kind of situation, having a doll is a real chance to mature!

 

dfs- You know, it really is funny just how being in this hobby can help you mature. I know from personal experience that both the financial side of things and waiting for deliveries has taught me patience, and the debate threads have taught me a lot about choice of words and knowing when to pick battles. My husband and I were talking a while back about how much more maturity it takes to pay your bills first and save up for what you really want vs. getting whatever you want when you want it then having to struggle to keep a roof over your head, regardless of what you're buying. In a lot of ways, BJD collectors are some of the most mature people out there.

 

I agree w/ kaschan. Ever since the doll hobby, I have matured in patience a lot. And also I got my first job in the making and starting making my own money for once. You can also learn to earn the stuff your way and not to be greedy and wait for it to be given TO you.

 

you might find out (like i did) that by the time you try to find someone who carries it or will bring it in for you it is just as fast to order it on e*ay and wait for it to ship. it actually gets here faster than your average doll

my husband thought it a bit weird too at first (but then he thinks i'm a bit weird anyway ) but we do photography trips together with me doing mostly closeups and my dolls and he does mostly scenics. but i've caught him occasionally taking pictures of my dolls when i've set them up. which leads me to another suggestion i don't remember seeing. is there anything about this hobby you could do with your mom so that she could share it in some way? maybe she would feel better about it if it led to a way to spending quality time together somehow?

 

Okay I have what might be an odd question and I hope it's okay to post here since it's a MNF hybrid question. Please forgive me if it's considered off topic! Does anyone know if the Doll Chateau kid body in pink or yellow would be a match to a MNF head? Would it be hard to get the head to "connect properly" to the body? I don't know if anyone's ever tried it. If so I've never been able to find any pics. I love to use the body with a Shushu head!

DraconicMaiden & ice.lenor That is terrible for both of you and I am so sorry. I know how much it hurts to leave/be left by someone to feel you truly love. I went through the same thing some years back. Then I found the love of my life, who would do anything for me, and married him. We now live in Italy (he's in the military) with two happy pups. I can honestly say what's meant to be will work out perfectly. It will hurt, but just try to stay positive.

I hope this will work as cheer up spam for both of you! Hugs!!!

@nethernity it depends on the doll what sculpt do you have I know shushu wears a 7/8 and chloe wears a 6/7

I am still itching to get a boy MNF - and I'm still working around my character stories...will be a long time before I have anything concrete, since I am horrible at making up my mind of what I want them to be like.

In other news I have tons of goodies headed my way for my girls, and one thing for my future boy! I know I haven't even ordered him, and I am already thinking of what I want him to look like. That's the funny part - the boy I don't own I have a perfect image of what he should looks like, act like, and whatnot, but the three girls I do have - NO CLUE! I am hopeless!

 

He's so gorgeous I love Carls!! Can't wait till mine is back from the faceup artist!

Im not sure but I think it depends on the sculpt - and you can use 7/8 but for some you may need a wig cap too. This wig is 7/8 but is very loose and the scalp looks a bit big to me.

I am currently saving up for a MNF Chloe and a extra body just in case i like the event head so i can have two dolls. Any way today i went to the bank to put some money into my savings account (to make sure i extra have enough for a doll and not keep buying BJD clothes. It went something like this:

Me: “Please can i put £X in my savings account?”

Lady behind the counter: “Oh are you saving up for something?”

Me: “Yes,”

Lady behind the counter: “Oh, how lovely. What are you saving for?”

Me: “A doll.”

Lady behind the counter: “A doll?”

Me: “Yes,”

Lady behind the counter: “What the hell kind of doll cost THIS much money!?”

Me: “An Asian ball joined doll,”

Lady behind the counter: “Oh, are those the kind of baby doll that look really real and you look after them.”

Me: “No, those things are creepy!”


I think she was rather confused. Any way the depressing thing is i am only about half way towards my goal for what i need. I wonder what conversation is going to occur when i draw the money out. Last time i drew out a lot of money, i got asked what was i buying. The answer was a camera. I think this is going to be a little more awkward then that.

 

karla-chan- That's funny! My mom makes those dolls. Their called "reborns". Only, she keeps them on counters and every now and then takes pics of them...People who change their diapers and change their clothes are just..odd? xD
