Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 23

Jun 20, 2012

    1. I am the same actually, i current have 2 MNFs but i do want a Chloe. So she is next, i am saving for her currently. Plus sort of a body and hoping i can order when an event is on.

I am saving up for MNF 3 and 4. I am the only doll collector in my house though, but i bet it is nice to have the hobby in common with family members.

    2. Ya know, I honestly don't get the whole "soomed" thing. I have a soom, and that's all I need. Fairyland and Iplehouse do me in big time! I'd have a lot more Iplehouse if I could get them through DDE.
At this point I have more Fairyland dolls than any others. And putting myself back in this thread is very likely to force another MNF buy!

Eh. I can't win. These forums are more self-dooming than anything. I left the hobby for a few months straight; now that I'm back - totally emptied my savings! This is not a good hobby for the financially impaired.

    3. LOL @ 'financially impaired' but I guess they do disable our bank accounts lol

Karla -chan It is fun but my daughters an art student so it gets doubly expensive for me at times lol

    4. Ahhh the ever-so-pretty Chloe. She's pretty much a holy grail for me. I hope you can order them and I am really curious about a MNF-sized event head!

I second the part with having this hobby in common with other family members. Or just a friend or the boyfriend... TT^TT Oh well... Also I agree about the fact that they are costy... I spent already so much on just one doll xDDD I don't even want to imagine the costs if there would be more O_____O

I need to win the lottery.... LOL!

    5. There has only ever been one Soom i have been interested in. But i keep seeing MNFs and RS dolls that i really like. If i get my Chloe with the event head i will have 4 MNF compared to 3 RS dolls. However if RS do release the dragon MSD - it will put me even again. I like both companies a lot. Well as a whole i prefer slim MSDs, because i prefer MSD dolls but i want them to look like adults.

I bet she is worth it though. Plus at least you have something specail to share. :)

I hope so too, because i have a concept for the event head (well if i can get away with putting it on a girl body) - she is not going to be one of my characters like my Chloe will be. But i have a look and a name in mind and everything ^^; :)

    6. karla-chan Youre absolutely right - the advantages definitely out weigh the disadvatages. Im waiting on a Chloe and a Mirwen. Sophie is waiting on a Karsh. All three are coming together. Will be a fun day when they come home. :D

    7. I bet that will be a very specail moment to share together both doing a box opening together. It bet it will be like the magic of Christmas.

My dad does like to be there when i open dolls actually (even though most of the time he has just put to as part of my present). But i just get so excited i am like a kid at Christmas - it is always that level of joy for me.

    8. I may get to order my Chloe next week!!! I'm really excited. :) Here's to hoping no more mnf's drain my already drained bank account LOL!!!

    9. My dad doesn't even know I'm into this hobby... If he finds out, he'd for sure rage at me xD And my boyfriend is creeped out by dolls and finds BJD's kind of an overpriced, useless hobby. It's pretty much just my mum that enjoys seeing them sometimes with me.

When I got my Ryeon, I couldn't even wait to get home, I took my keys and cut the package open xD I went on public transportation and kept pulling her out of the packaging, because I was just absoluetly smitten! And of course, people were looking at me like I was some weirdo, but... Who cares?! :)

    10. oh thats so sad ! Dont they see the artistic and creative potential in them ? At least you have your Mum X

    11. i hope somebody buys a custom rix i really wanna see more of that sculpt

    12. i'm the same. i only planned to ever get one per size/per company but now i have multiples of most of the sizes and i "need" to start collecting some boy minifees! i've managed to keep it to just one with every other company. if fairyland came out with more elf sculpts i'd REALLY be in trouble!

that is part of it. it seems to be easier to pay off layaways then to save up in the first place some how

    13. ^^; i am both equally killed by FL and Soom. I have the most of both.. Yup i fall under soomed...10 soom babies and 10 mnf lol

    14. Total disability indeed!
OMG, you guys have THREE ON THE WAY???!!!! :...( not fair. Congrats!

karla-chan, I had two RS Mei's but they found new homes. They have beautiful sculpts but in the end I'm all about the ability of articulation.

auntbear, my MNFs came direct from Fairyland but all my other Fairyland dolls came from DDE's layaway option. :) Otherwise, I'm sure they would probably still be on my wishlist.

    15. I can't say that I'm sold out to any one company, to be honest. I have 1 MNF and plan to buy another when I can, but I also have 4 RS dolls and another from Impldoll on the way. There's just too many pretty dolls out there for me to stay tied down to one brand! xP

But to keep things on the topic of MNFs, here's some spam of Adina shaking hands with Domo-kun-
      [IMG]

    16. Guys I need a little advice. What do you do when you're parents aren't thrilled with your hobby? My mother hates my mnf and wants me to give it away. I don't know what to do. I'm old enough to have my own dolls but I'm feeling pressured to give her away.

    17. I've found quite a few places (in Ontario, but anyway - there's one toy shop owner who will put in orders for the local group here from time to time) that carry MSC and I remember hearing of some places in Vancouver too, so you might be able to find some in a model store or something.

    18. Something that cost hundreds of dollars should never be given away! Tell her it's your money, you spent it on what you wanted. Keep your girl in your room as a compromise if she doesn't like seeing you carting her around the house or something.

    19. Out of sight, out of mind. Keep her away from your mom.
And definitely do NOT give it away!

    20. Just keep her away from your mom! If she doesn't like seeing her, then why doesn't she mind her business and agree you have your dolls and she mind her business? No hurt feelings, and trying not to pound in on your mom or anything but If she doesn't like, she has no mind snooping in on her. And it's YOUR collection and YOUR money spending. Not hers. But on a side, DO NOT give her away!!!! :D

    21. Blueskies- what is it that your mom hates? I know that some of my friends/relatives/coworkers get super sticker shock when all they really know about my dolls is their price. But once they understand the dolls are more of a customizable art expression thing that I can enjoy crafting for, they relax and can at least appreciate that I love my dolls even if they don't. Have you talked to your mom about it that way? Like the things that you are hoping to get out of the hobby and stuff?

    22. Just wanted to pop in to say hello and share the new photos I took of my Rena, Kitty, today :)

I haven't really played with my dolls in months, so it was about time I showed my girl some love!

More are in the gallery thread <3

    23. Random, but I remember you saying you decided shushu was the wrong mold for you. I don't know if you thought of this, but rather then having to save up to buy a whole new doll to switch to a chloe, you could always just sell the shushu head and buy a chloe head second hand. Unless you're switching skintones, that is.

    24. :/
I'm in a sticky sit. I don't know if I should get Chloe, or Luka. I like Chloe's cute features, but Luka's small, petite features. <.< And they both fit the character I am making. v.v Spam or either of them please? And maybe some motivation of which could be best? (IFFF that's possible..)

    25. thanks all for the comments on my girlie! 8D

Blueskies: definitely keep the doll away from your parents, and do what you feel is best, you bought it, so you decide what to do :)

been confused now, I like my mirwen with blonde hair and accidentally tried a black wig, now I'm more confused =^= help..

    26. I love those bangs! But I am partial to the blond wig. Can you post a pic without the hat?

    27. @ Botflybaby - I have a second hand chloe on hold from the marketplace!! I'm hoping to have her home next week sometime!

@Kokoro-Chan - I love you're girl!! What sculpt is that. She has real attitude.

    28. Ah I like it without the hat more...Now I can't decide either, lol! I think she looks like she has more attitude in the blond wig. She looks a little more angry in the blond wig? And calmer in the black.

    29. Oh gosh! Your Mirwen is pretty much spot-on to how I wanted my mirwen's hair to look (more with the hat than without though!) But I do like both the blonde and the black so I'm no help here.

Are your girls eyes modded or is it just the eye-size she's wearing? What size eyes does she have in if you don't mind my asking! They compliment her face very well by the way!

/hugs/ Like most everyone else said, don't give her away or sell her! When I first got into the hobby I hid my girl away because my parents weren't super thrilled. But I eventually showed them how much artistry and love and joy they provided and so they're more okay now. But I keep them in my room and really only bring them out of the room when I travel to other people's places.

Dolls have brought me new friends, new skills (dremel tool usage, sculpting, painting, sewing, photography, etc) and a hobby that's really taught me a lot about being responsible with money and how to save and be patient. Everytime I learn something new I point it out to my Mom, like "See! I never would have learned this if I didn't have a doll!"

    30. oops meant to edit old post

so have some spam to make up for my accidental double post.

    31. blueskies: thanks! she's a mirwen :B!
Botfly: I'm so confused but for now, she may just like dying her hair alot XD
Smotey: she has no mods at all :) her eyes are size 12mm I think or 10mm...not sure D8 it's between those two!

    32. If I promise to keep up on the MNF thread, will anyone believe me?!? Seriously, I don't know what my damage is :/

Well, unless you follow me on flickr, this is some good news to share ... I finally got a second body and now Amy and Delaney no longer have to share !!! I thought I could do it, I really did but switching heads, wigs and wardrobes between two characters was just annoying beyond measure *grumbles* The only problem now is Callum REALLY thinks he has two girlfriends ;)

Man, I love the spam in this thread! But it definitly does not help me from not wanting all the sculpts! ^^; Especially Karsh, Rheia, Mirwen, etc. lol Everyone's dolls always look so awesome! <3

    34. @mighella - Such a cutie, that Rena! :D

@Kokoro-Chan - Your Mirwen looks great - but I do like the blonde wig more :)

@SmoteyMote - Oh - I really like that picture, the pose with the hands is so sweet. ^^

@SweetKitties27 - That outfit is so cool - I am missing having a boy soooo bad! I don't think I will be able to wait three months to order a boy - hahaha! Not with all the super cute boy spam on the thread!

Here is Abigail sharing the love (after waiting 2 1/2 months for these hands) - finally got them from dde a couple of days ago - they are cute - but boy can they be hard to pose correctly!

    35. Just like others said: Keep her away from your parents. That's what I'm doing at the moment aswell. And give something that is worth not only quite the few bucks, but also emotionally invaluable? I say NO.
But you could also try persuade her about it... If it is an honest passion and stuff, parents usually soften up at that.

    36. I did hear about a hobby store in Vancouver carrying it too, but if I remember correctly it was a special order and they sold out in one afternoon. I'm also not in Vancouver very often. Still....at least it's something to look into.

GIVE?!! Not a chance! Way too much money involved! Maybe your mom is a little uncertain about the hobby because you were not thrilled with your first MNF either? When they arrive without a faceup they are harder to love. Maybe she will feel differently once you settle on one that you love and the doll is complete?

Is your hobby looking like one endless money pit to your mom? Or do you enjoy the hobby in other ways (other than shopping for dolls and buying them things?). My husband was very reluctant about me getting into the hobby but now that I've had my dolls for over a year he can see how much enjoyment I get from them. I sew, knit and crochet for them. I pose and photograph them, I post in forums and blog about them and the hobbies that revolve around them. Family, friends, and even some strangers can see how much fun and enjoyment I get from my dolls. And hey, it's cheaper than therapy (or drugs or booze).

Does your mom know there are a large number of mature adults (okay....."old" folk) in the hobby too?

    37. loving everyone's spam

    38. Everyone's spams are so darn good!!!
On a side note, where to get wigcaps for Minifees?

    39. Well. First of all, if you give her away, give her to me. xD

Also, don't let her decide. It's your choice of hobby. Hobbies are important, they're your getaway from all the things that are hard to deal with in life.

    40. I see, i know i am pretty lucky that my parents or any other family members don't think it is that weird i have dolls. My auntie used to collect dolls and i am pretty sure if she was still around today she would have my BJDs then me. But i think because of that and my Granddad & uncle collects trains. My dad and some of my other uncles, and cousins are photographers.

So i think because of that my family just kind of get what i am doing. Oh my nanna used to be a seamstress too. So to them i am doing nothing weird.

I think it is hard to say one per company because there are so many different styles it is likely that one company or a couple will have more dolls that you like because they make what is closer to your personal taste then what another company will make. It is good you are trying to be open minded about many different companies though.

I love Mei so much, she is probably my all time fave sculpt. It is a shame that some of the resin doesn't match because even the white skins are pretty different. You can get them to pose well they just need some work. Mainly thicker strings (I use 3mm for mine) and hot glue sueding.

At the end of the day though i have seen nothing that can pose like a MNF. Although my worse poser is my MNF Karsh, all my RS girls pose better then him. I have had to hole glue suede his chest and he is better, but still bugs me.

Ico is a joy to pose though, with her cutie bust A-line body.

It is a very much personal taste thing, i can see both sides really. With one company you will have less diversity, but if you only like they way they look then why buy others. It is one of those things where there is no right or wrong, just enjoy the dolls you love.

I guess it is one of those things where you might just have to be strong enough not to bend to her pressure and tell her it is your money and you can do what they hell you like with it. It will probably cause arguments, but if you want to keep the doll and would be even more upset with out it, it could be worth the fight.

Or just ignore her and she might give up asking.

    41. Blueskiesnorain - Aw! I'm sorry your having a hard time with your ma. My mum has always liked me being in the hobby - I think she's just pleased her rather tomboy-ish girl is into dolls! (even if it took almost 20 years lol!) But my dad and his family aren't quite so much - they just see it as a money-pit, and that they cost too much for something that essentially does nothing. I remember telling my Uncle that I wanted a doll for my birthday from my parents, and he couldn't understand why; after I pointed out that I've always asked for practical presents, and that for my 21st I wanted something that was just pretty, and not necessarily practical, he understood more, even if it wasn't something he saw as important, he knew it was to me. Same thing with my dad - don't give your doll away or sell her, but I'd try talking to your mum before you hide your hobby away; you may end up doing that in the long run, but it might just be that your mum doesn't understand the hobby and your interest in it.

And geh, I miss Nyne! I can't wait til I get back home and can see her!

    42. Blueskiesnorain: I think most of us have received a little resistance in the beginning with this hobby. For most people it's kind of a hard concept to understand, spending all this money on something that really does not "benefit" every day life. I know when I first started out most of the people around me saw it as a childish waste of money, but the thing is that it was MY money. When I brought my first doll back home from college my father rolled his eyes (He's an accountant and very money conscious) and told me it was a waste of money and I should sell it to get my money back. My mother was just confused that her anti-girly daughter was collecting dolls.
It wasn't till about a year into the hobby that they finally understood how important the hobby was to me. My old MNF Shiwoo got knocked off a shelf by accident by my mother, and I sobbed, like full on sobbed. A reaction even I wasn't expecting. She apologized over and over again, and after that seemed to be a little more accepting that this was something important to me. It actually introduced me to a lot of new friendly people and got me to get out of the house more. It's an innovative hobby with a little bit of something for everyone.
Don't let your mother hold you back, show her that this hobby is very important to you and you can take just as much out of it as you put in. :)

(Oh man I totally rambled there for a bit didn't I? Here's some Dani spam to make up for it!)

    43. blueskies- I'm really sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time with your mom. I know it's already been said, but don't let her control you- your hobbies are up to YOU. I do agree with MissCarrion that it would be a good idea to try talking things over with her, but if she won't listen then just remember that it was your money that you spent on the doll, and your mom has no right to make you give her away or sell her. I'd also make sure to put the doll somewhere that your mom won't find her when you're away from the house.

    44. alogue - She is such a cutie , love her little face XX

      A little couples spam

    45. Many had answered this. But just wanted to echo and add my own words. I am sure many of us experienced this as well, including myself. My own parents were very not encouraging when I first started the hobby but in the end, respected my decision and that it was my money; and that the hobby makes me happy and can see on how it is beneficial when it comes to friends-wise.

I usually make sure my dolls are hidden away in their bags and such whenever I'm out of home and such. If they are not understanding, it's best to hide your doll away and just enjoy in your own privacy and solitude. Also, giving it away doesn't make much sense since.. well.. It's a rather expensive doll, and also, if it's your own money, then she really do not have much of a say to it, in my honest opinion? Just stay strong; enjoy your dolls and enjoy the hobby.

      ---

But anyways, I had mentioned that I had a Minifee Woosoo on the way home. I just received him a week ago and just finished his face-up today. Coincidentally, I received his wig just today and so, he's finally complete. Hope you don't mind meeting my Woosoo, Emmanuel. <3

    46. I missed so many pages while I was gone and just caught up. Lovely spam everyone :)

    47. Just chiming in. I agree with everyone else who commented on this because I'm in the SAME boat, but I just reminded my parents that it's my money to spend as I choose to because I keep my grades up and do my part to help out. Try explaining why you should keep her and explain that reason in a calm manner. I bought my resin kids because they are the physical manifestations of my OCs for my story. They help me ground the characters easier, but they mean more than just that to me. I did that with my parents and they accepted it eventually. I hope that everything turns out okay and you keep your Shushu.

    48. SilverIdentity He's very handsome! It's very nice to see more human woosoo! There aren't enough of them

Ettore is pleased to see more!

    49. parent have a hard time understanding the hobby. i agree with what some of the others have said here. just explain to your mom what you find appealing in this hobby and how it makes you happy. also a good thing to bring up is the many artistic outlets. everything from coming up with a background and character (writing) to learning to paint or blush them, to sewing for them, photographing them, using them as models to draw, or sculpting tiny things for them.

this can be a very artistic and therapeutic hobby. even if these are not your intentions right now, some day you may work up the nerve to try some new things (i know i did)

i had to point out to a few people, that my hobby seems like a very expensive one when compared to some of the others in my family but that in the end, i think it actually evens out. while i have to shell out the big bucks in the beginning to get the doll , clothing etc after that i can just enjoy them, rather inexpensively, while other hobbys drain you little by little more frequently

extra money is probably going to be spent one way or another. while my extra money was spent on something that keeps me happy and holds its value, my sisters was spent on movies and fast food and clothing she didnt need and such. in the end we both spent our "play money" i spent the bulk of it on one thing, she spent bits and pieces here and there. who is to say that i wasted any of it?

wow rambling. i got carried away

    50. Everyone's dolls are soso pretty! :))))

    51. I definitely agree with what you say. I used to tell my parents, "It could be worse, there are other things I could be spending my money on." lmao~

    52. You are right i think, we all have our vices and as long as we can pay for the important things what we do with our "play money" is our choice. BJDs are much better then a lot of other vices out there like smoking and drinking etc. With smoking and drinking you have nothing to show for it - apart from potential health problems. At least with a BJD you have something nice.

    53. thegreatkait Sparrow is beautiful - love her face-up. She is the most unique Mirwen Ive ever seen :aheartbea

    54. WOW, Sparrrow is beautiful - I love her soft/warm coloring!

And I don't mean to beat a dead horse but blueskies ... I think, once your mother sees how much your doll means to you, by taking pictures, making clothes, creating backstory etc. she will view your hobby much differently. Yes parents are protective and they don't want their kids being flippant with their money but they are not stupid and I think most will warm up to something they see makes their child happy.
And just for the record, not all parents are against this hobby. I'm a mom and I got both my little girls PKFs - there is hope, just share your photos with your mom, show her how much time and creativity you put into setting them up or designing your girl's outfits ... you get the idea ;)

And I'm not showing up empty handed - here's some recent Amy spam :)

      see, I came back ;)

    55. I'm am in love with her face up! She's absolutely gorgeous!!

    56. thegreatkait, your Mirwen is gorgeous! (And not helpful when trying to decide for a doll mold... X_X)

I simply don't know if I should get a Chloe, Mirwen or Woosoo VE! I know that I also want a Karsh boy, but that will be later. A girl first... But I'll wait for the next FL event. Who knows if there will be another MNF event head?

    57. Kokoro-Chan: Does your Mirwen really have to have only one wig? After all real people dye their hair and a few do in fact change their hair style just to suit their mood hehe.
My Aislinn is a wig hoarding pest, it is in part because FL's gorgeous DES faceup looks great with a lot of styles; in part because my first wig purchase did not turn out great and because having a short straight no fuss wig is great for certain situations and because she proved to be a completely new character upon arrival... yes now I'm just justifying myself I know.

On the Parents Disapproval subject, my parents obviously looked at me funny when a few weeks after college graduation I told them I wanted one and especially at the price. But after more than a year at home they can't imagine my not having Aislinn, because she is the balance of toy and art that I would have given every other toy I owned as a child to have had back then.
But as people have said, if your parents are seeing you just spending money with no visible gain of some sort then they are going to be against the hobby till they see some value in it.
Aislinn finally pushed me to learn to sew, something I've been meaning to do for ever but was never motivated enough to actually start.
