Fairyland Minifee MNF Discussion Part 21

May 4, 2006

    1. chloe & shushu together spam anyone? Thank you!!

    2. I had a lucky find today. I was looking through an old college textbook and came across a diagram of a simple "sloper" for developing patterns. I discovered that it only needed to be enlarged by 200% and given seam allowances and it fits Minifee perfectly!

I realize that most Minifees here are styled as teenagers but Candace, my Mirwen, is meant to be in her twenties and a "business professional". It's been very difficult to find patterns to suit that personality!

AND.....the text book is chock full of explanations on how to alter the basic sloper into pretty much any other type of style one could imagine. Dropped waists, asymmetrical, flared, multi-panelled, bell shaped, full, tapered, you name it, this book can tell you how to do it. AWESOME!

If you're interested in that sort of thing the book is called "Patternmaking for Fashion Design" and it's by Helen Joseph Armstrong.

    3. I need to take pictures of my girls I've got them sitting in front of my work space and was just admiring them.
It's amazing how different my DES and (mom's) Shushu are. I think I understand why some people might not like DES. With the two in front of me, Aislinn is clearly other (not necessarily alien which I have seen as a description), but the Shushu is so human looking next to her.
I love them both but especially Aislinn.
Is it because she's my first? :)

    4. This is awesome, Thank You for the book name and author! I would like to see this and see what can be made out of it. Happy news! :D

    5. Hi folks!

I'm waiting for three MNFs to make their way home, and I have wig questions!

Can anyone tell me what size wigs work best for Juri 08 and Rheia, please?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for Tibetan mohair wigs? I love Sleeping Elf / TinyBear (I have one waiting for Aria, my Chloe), but is there anyone else who makes wigs of a similar quality?

      Thanks! :)

    6. I feel I must warn you that it's a very expensive text book....or at least it was when I purchased it about 15 years ago. It IS a textbook though so you might be able to find it in a college library and just borrow it. After making the last post I discovered that there are 1/4 scale slopers at the very back of the book. NO need to even enlarge!! They could just be photocopied, as is.

I have yet to test fit the bodice, but I know that the skirt part fits perfectly. Even for the bodice, if a person spent a little time fitting it to their doll, and then transfered the changes to the basic sloper, they could then make pretty much any style of blouse, dress, coat, or whatever using the instructions for this book. It really is THAT good.

    7. Oh my boys... :aheartbea
