Can anyone tell me about resin yellowing with minifees? My understanding so far is that sunlight does it? Does that mean I need to keep her in artificial light or stored somewhere dark? Or does it just mean to not have her near a window where she gets *direct* sunlight?

Like right now she's sitting on top of a bookshelf in a room that has a lot of filtered white daylight in it, but not golden sunlight. Is this safe? I'd like to prevent yellowing even if it means keeping her put up, but I don't want to go overboard if she can do okay in a daylit room.

 

Heat and any sort of light will speed up the yellowing process, which is the oxidation of the resin by the air (I'm not sure which molecule of air, though, something that's happy the accept electrons.). There's no way to prevent yellowing entirely, unless you put the doll is a cold and dark vaccum, lol. Keeping the doll in a cool, dark place will certainly slow the process, though.

 

Yellowing IS going to happen to you doll no matter what you do. The air makes resin turn. You can only slow it down. Near a window with direct sunlight is very bad, it will yellow your doll quicker, and sunlight exposure like that could cause uneven yellowing. I very rarely open my curtains so my dolls don't see day light much, however when i do open them they are no where near the window, so don't have the direct sunlight problem.

So if they just so happen to be in a day lit room they should be fine.

 

Thank you, guys. That helps a lot just knowing that air does it. And lookie - I accidentally ran into this just browsing the forum this afternoon. A whole thread on this! Seems the general consensus is to not be paranoid about it. Most dolls seem to be fine, so I'll relax about it and just enjoy her.

I do admit even though i know it happens i still get paranoid. So it is normal. But yes enjoy your girl as you see fit. But it is useful to know how not to make these things worse.

 

Fairyland's resin also yellows veeeeery well. I know my doll's yellowed, but the color's still a very nice creamy tone. XD

 

my zoe is from 2009, and she is a very pretty mellowed normal skintone. she is for certain more yellow than my newer girl, bisou, but even side by side its not that noticeable or unbearable by any means. FL resin yellows beautifully. when i had a ws ltf, i never took any precautions against anything, and she was rarely in clothing that covered too much of her and even she just turned this gorgeous ivory color.

 

hey i had an odd curious question. Don't beat me up. I'm not a bad doll owner or anything but I just thought about something really crazy. Lately ws skin dolls has stopped a lot of owners from purchasing them. And I always think of ws minifee's as vampires because they yellow faster in the sun. Since warmth are also yellows them what would happen if I were to lets say......preserve a doll in a cold environment? Like a small refrigerator? has anyone ever tried that? Or does it sound too outrageous? Lol I just imaged my dolls hibernating lmao

 

I think personally a small refrigerator is a little bit too accessive since they are going to yellow no matter what you do. Personally i keep them out of dirrect sunlight, make sure they are not near a heater, but appart from that enjoy them.

 

My luts senior delf cian is about 3 or 4 years old and he's yellowed pretty evenly I always placed him back in the box after I finished playing with him. I thought it was an interesting thought on preserving your dolls. I am going to buy my first ws minifee though so keeping him evenly creamy shall be a challenge

 

You would need too be careful with the cold too since it can make the resin more fragile as well.

I'm only one week in to my wait for my Minifee Chloe and I've almost saved up for a Minifee Luka! I am planning for him and wondered which Leekeworld wig usually fits the Luka head better: 6/7 or 7/8? I read somewhere that the Chloe head is smaller and usually takes a 6/7 and I want to make sure that isn't true for the Luka head as well. Thanks in advance for any help.

This thread moves too quickly for me to keep up >__< But I have spam today! Here is my vampire Shushu, an event head that was released in 2007, I believe? Her body/head have yellowed, but it kind of gives her a cool tint to her skin and I don't mind it as much as I thought I would've when I first heard about BJD yellowing. As mentioned above already, there isn't anything you can do to prevent it, but keeping your dolls away from the sun will help the yellowing from happening too quickly ^^

I have a Luka question: Does a 7/8 wig fit him best, or does he do better with a 6/7? I know some MNF heads do better with a smaller wig and I want to make sure I order the right size for him.

Some rheia spammage with my vintage girl Jacks:

 

Luka has a pretty big head (bigger than all my other dolls!) Leeke's 6.5/7 wigs will fit though, some might take a little fighting to get on, I have three for my girl and two out of them take a little work.
I've only bought two 7/8 wigs and they're both way too big.
Other Luka owners may be of more help, but there's my contribution!

I have a 7/8 wig, and it's wayyy too big on my Luka. There's way too much hair on the wig too, so it just looks odd. XD

 

karla-chan got my princess doll dress from ninestyle yesterday. Its big on a mnf but taking it in on the sides helped alot. Let me know if you'd like to see pictures

 

I would love to see them, are they a lot too big? Or just a little bit?

I've been silently reading these threads while I waited for my very first doll. Seeing everyone's beautiful photos helped me a lot. Now she's there, and I can finally spam her
She's unnamed, has no faceup and no clothes yet, but I am so happy with her.

I can never keep up with these threads, they move so fast. So I'll just say thank you to everyone who obliged to my WS / Chloe spam request, and that I love everyone's dollies!

A friend pointed me to Deb's Adorables on Ebay. Basically, look for shoes made for Kish Raven or any of the 14" Kish dolls. Their feet are very similar....no bulkiness.

 

This thread always has the best photos. And really loving all the Juri spams of late! Who know the Juri '11 could look so fabulous! Ok, so quite a few of you knew that!
