Fairyland Minifee MNF Discussion Part 19

elsii : wow! stunning girl1 i LOVE the steampunk corset! i wish i could find something like that in YOSD size



as usual beautiful new thread spam everyone

 

she is REALLY kicky. her legs just go all over the place and will NOT stay in any one position. her head only looks up or down. she is swaybacked, knock kneed and pigeon toed. if i do get her to stand her hips are uneven and legs look really awkward. even when she is sitting she looks odd. need i go on?

i know that when i get a chance to re-string her it should fix all those problems, i've done it with other dolls. i just needed pictures out today and i have a kid who is really sick and no place to lay out all the parts, so i'm just frustrated and venting a bit

 

I have the same issue with standing him and his hips are uneven and legs look really awkward. So what is going wrong with the strings to make them do that?

I went to FL site today and noticed that Fairyland starting selling neck pieces. I thought I'd let you guys know in case anyone was interested in them before.

 

My new mnf is that way too. From what I can tell, it's due to being strung too tightly. That snapping that happens at the torso and such is caused by tension, not slackness. Tight strings yank the doll into a bend — the slippery smooth resin has no friction to counter the tight pull. It's frustrating because posing was important to me and I had heard the active-line minifees were such awesome posers. I'm working on getting the nerve up to suede her joints and see if that helps.

I also noticed in the manual that came with her, they say to not leave them standing for prolonged periods because it puts tension on the strings, which will make them soften. I'm tempted to leave her in positions that will cause the strings to get a little more lax, but I'm not sure whether that would then create the opposite problem.

 

What all in this theme the beautiful! So it is pleasant to look! Even the mood rises.

 

I see that makes sense. I tend to have my dolls sat down when they are not being played with. But if it is because the strings are too tight, that is a problem that won't be too bad since they will loosen. I think i make keep playing with him and hope that helps make the strings more lax too. Thanks so much for the advise.

 

My minifee started out super tight as well, and I ended up taking it apart and completely stringing the body with new string. I also sueded the joints, but the restringing definitely helps.

Here is my new boy Owick BTW. This is not going to be his wig, he is just borrowing it until i get his actual wig.

 

For people with tight string issues, you can 'fold up' your doll overnight (pull its knees to its chest and secure them there [I use rubber bands]) to loosen strings.

For hips sitting funny, I usually find that the knot in the string is is a funny place and distributing the tension wrong, or in the case of my hybrid, the little hip cup thing has twisted itself funny.

Neither of these will probably cure everything, but it's something to look into.

I know the hip cups can sometimes move into a strange place, that is not the issue. But i might try the fold him up idea or other ways to loosen him. Where should the knot in the string be? So i can have a look at that too.

My Karsh is really tight too..and I got him used..but maybe he wasn't played with much poor guy! I have been trying to keep him posed in different ways to help loosen the string, but it's definitely TIGHT and he's the old style body too.

 

He could have had new strings. On my other dolls i have changed them when they have got too lose.

 

When I first got my MNf Seorin, he couldn't even stand. His legs collapsed under him and there was just no support. I hot glue sueded him, and now everything is great. Restringing is easy, just make sure to keep the left and right pieces separate

 

The problem is, i have heard a lot of mixed views on hot glue sueding MNFs because it can do weird things to the joint system. I also do not know how to restring a MNF since they are a little different to my RS girls. But if you know any great help tutorials i would really love to see them.

 

i've tried suedeing a doll before. with no real improvement. but restringing has worked wonders when i've done it. i'll try making her into a pretzel tonight though and see if it helps. at least i got my challenge photos done so now she can wait. here is my favorite (posed to sitting and from the waist up )

I think the only thing I learned not to suede is the knee joints. Like, you have to suede it VERY thinly, or not along the sides. Everything else I sueded with no issues whatsoever. I swear by hot glue sueding, seriously. XD

 

I see, another concern i would have would be the upper torso of the muscly active line. Because it only has a small ledge to lock it into place, and sometimes that will pop lose any way. Would it cause issues there?

 

I have the muscular A-line body, and I haven't had any issues with that lock. If there is an issue, you can just scrap away some of the hot glue after it dries. XD

Here is my Shushu, I just figured out she can play with her necklace because of the magnets in her hands. So funny.
Also: Minifee's come with manuals?? I didn't get one is there some particular way you are supposed to store them to keep the strings from stretching out?

It's the pale green "catalog" that comes under the box lid but on top of the foam. There should have been one in your doll box if you ordered it new. If you didn't get one, you're actually not missing too much. It is printed nicely (but not full color)but is mostly a page of cautions about polyurethane and a bunch of pages showing the range of motion for each limb (which is sort of a no-brainer). In the back is a grid of the different face sculpts.

I think it just said not to leave the doll standing.

I took some pics of my Karsh today I named him Calanon, which means light, and thought that was a fitting elvish name for him. He's still in his elvish outfit I was working on for him, I need to get the rest of the fabrics! I just got these eyes I really love the color, but I'm not sure if they will be his permanent ones or not. I noticed that the right eye looks cloudy somewhat and I'm not sure if it's dirty or has something wrong with it.

Joining the Minifee thread, as I have officially fallen in love with them... I saw my first minifee in real life the other day, and it was so stunning! It was a Chloe, but now I really want a ShuShu, Chloe AND Mirwen ^^;

ShuShu will definitely be my first... so, with that, may I request some Shushu spam?

 

I hope everywhere solves their tightly strung doll issues. I hate that fairyland sends them so tightly

My boy is an older doll, but I just restrung him with new elastic. I was wondering if my restringing might have had something to do with it, but I've restrung other minifee and have not had a problem. I bought him second hand, I'm not sure if his previous owner had the same issue. ^^

I also saw they're selling them now That's enticing ^^;; I'll see if I can fix it first. Eye putty or silicone earplugs sound like they'll do the trick.

Ravenwolf if your Calanon suddenly vanishes it's because I've "borrowed" him He is so cute I want a Karsh really badly now.


I'm finding my active line girl isn't so sturdy too. But I haven't redone the hot glue sueding, which does help a lot for those of you who aren't convinced. I just have no clue if she's too tight or too loose. She has taken to knee buckling and not balancing very well.
I thought she was really good for a while now not so much, and she spends her life sitting in her custom handmade chairs; so it's not from too much standing.

And she doesn't like to stay hooked in their famous back arched pose except by sheer luck.. and isn't even a large bust.
I need to be brave and take her apart and see if that helps.

 

Because I will always answer the call for Luka spam.

Loving all the spam, especially the Mirwens. I know she's basic so I can get her whenever I want, but I really wish I was making more money so I could get mine ASAP. -_-;;

Also, I have to say, I LOVE the creativity in this thread. Everyone's MNFs are SO different, I love it!

 

RS send them really lose too, but they are so easy to just pull the knots and tighten them. But i am happy my issues have been a simple it is a little too tight.

 

Wow, karla-chan, that is such a creative, artistic shot! And will all those mirrors I'm surprised you were able to get a great shot without the camera being reflected back somewhere.

Love your group photo, Rio99, all those beautiful girls together. I think your Mirwen is the first WS doll I've really been taken with. She's gorgeous.

 

I am happy you like it, but it is how the mirror's are set up, they are in a triangle so i don't tend to get in the way.

 

Lucy is adorable, but Sabina really has my heart! Makes me want a Mirwen even more! I love her white skin, she is so beautiful.
