Aesthetics Faceup

Jun 9, 2015

    1. This is my second faceup, or third depending how you look at it. I have new pastels, pencils and brushes so I should have all necessary to do a good faceup.

I'm not very happy with the lips, they should be darker and the teeth whiter. You can hardly see she has teeth at all.
I quite like the eyebrows though, much better than my previous ones...

I'll appreciate suggestions on how to improve it. Thanks :)

    2. I wish my second or third faceup was that good! The eyebrows look really good to me, maybe a bit of pastel shading in the same colour as her hair would give the illusion of shadow. The eye makeup is all in the right places, I think it just needs a little blending- like how subtle the cheek blushing is. I'd probably use dark brown instead of black on the lash line as she has blonde hair, unless you mean her to look like she's wearing eyeliner. The lips are a pretty colour but need filling out a bit more. I get that same line on one of my head's lips and I haven't figured out why or how to fix it yet. Your shading work is lovely and I'm sure your next attempt will be even better. Good luck:)

    3. The eyeliner is brown actually, maybe it looks darker in the pic. I draw it with the same pencil I used for the eyebrows but I also used acrylics over it, I may have added too much black in the mix.
The wig is temporary, it's not even her size, I don't have a clear image for her. I may just keep her as practice head. Thank you. :)

    4. Acrylics tend to be darker than you expect which is why they're usually the point where I ruin an okay faceup! Maybe you'll come up with a look for her while practicing. In any case enjoy it. [emoji4]

    5. I was just thinking that the eyeliner didn't come out as I wanted, it's just as I planned it but it doesn't give the look I was hoping for. Her eyes are long and I wanted to make them rounder, they do look rounder but maybe I should have winged her eyeliner up instead of drawing it straight. I also should add lower lashes but this morning I was so tired I left it like that without even redoing the lips. I was even shaking so definitely not the right state to paint, I'll try another day.

    6. Her eyes look quite round to me but you could try winging the eyeliner more to get the look you're after. It can be hard to find time to practice faceups and sometimes when you have time you don't feel up to it. Although it's hard, it should be enjoyable too.

    7. I worked on it for four hours straight, next time I'll try to have a break in between like every two hours and maybe eat something. I was probably just hungry since it was 1pm.

I know what it feels like to not have the strength to do things, but I feel much better now and that's also why I'm getting more into the hobby lately :)

    8. I worked on it some more. Added pastel over the eyebrows, changed the eyeshadow color a bit, and tried fixing those lips. The blush is a little darker, I had to redo some of it because it chipped on the chin. Maybe the coat of MSC was too light and didn't protect it well.
I still don't really like those lips, though they're better than before. I tried drawing some lower lashes but I don't really like them.

    9. Wow, you've really improved already! The eyelashes look good to me and the eyeliner looks a lot more confident and natural. Maybe a little gloss on the lips would help? I'm trying to think of something else constructive to say but she looks really fab so, just, well done! ^^

    10. I couldn't draw those lower lashes well because the base was too smooth so I sprayed a thicker coat of MSC, it was so much easier this time.
Added some pastel to the lips and glossed them, I also put some gloss on the eyeliner.

    11. She looks amazing! The lips look so much better with the gloss. Did you add a bit of blush to the ears too? She's really sweet. Is she going to stay a practice head or are you getting ideas for a character?

    12. The ear blushing is one of the first things I did, maybe it didn't show before first because of the wig then the yellow indoor lightning...

I have to admit she's quite cute now but no I don't have a character in mind and I had such a stressful transaction with her company that I still kinda hate her.

I bought her a wig though.

    13. Yeah, I did scroll up and couldn't tell you'd done the ears. They're very cute.

Sorry to hear you had a tough time getting her but you've done such a good job maybe she's worth the struggle? Like she's your reward for dealing with the stress.

    14. Last update, I'll stop after this as she's finished. I just wanted to show one last picture with her new wig. :)

    15. Aw, she looks really sweet and adorable! She looks like she's just about to say something. The wig suits the colours you've chosen for her and the pale eyes are really pretty.

    16. It was a lucky find, she has an 8" head so I searched on eBay and that was one of the first results. It's a nice natural looking fiber and it's red so it match her eyebrows :)
I'm not so sure about the eyes but I don't have other 16mm and I don't know what color would suit her best, so I leave them for now.

    17. beautiful:D

    18. Not sure if you're looking for critiques anymore but I think you've done a great job on her! I know you said previously that you couldn't draw her lower lashes, but I think she looks lovely without them. I'm actually quite in love with what you've done with her eye makeup. And the lips are a lovely shade of red, so congrats on that! She really does look great put together!

    19. Wow! This is so pretty! I wish my faceups were this good! Your doll has a 1920's, Gatsby look, and I love it!
