Thank you very much for sharing! Your tutorial was very easy to understand and super helpful to someone like me who is getting ready to do their first face up! You do wonderful work.
/subscribes...! Need to be able to find this later... I'm still new at this and will be attempting my first face up (when I'm brave enough and have decided on my girl's "look"). The detail in the tutorial is brilliant! Thanks for doing this!
Thank you so much for having taken the time to detail thoughtfully warming insight on faceups! Awesome work
Thank you for going step by step. This really helps me out on how I'm supposed to recreate eyebrows or where to add gloss. XD
Thanks so much for this tutorial! It's a similar style and color scheme to what I'd like to do on my first doll. I'm really hesitant to dive in though. Seeing as many success stories and how-tos as possible is helpful. Looks like you've inspired many people with your work.
Sooo pretty, I hope to be able to do faceups someday too though I'm not too good when it comes to makeup and such
This really makes me very excited for trying my own faceup... one day. Ahaha. I don't think I'm quite ready yet but I'll go back to this thread if ever that I'm brave enough.
Great tutorial, bookmarked I can't get some of the supplies in the UK, where can I find MSC equivalent please and a sealer.
Dollytogz, you can get MSC from ThinkPink. Then you don't have to worry about anything as you won't need to pay import taxes
I know this post is a little old but I'm wondering about doing a pinky red blush on tan (Latidoll tan) resin? I've heard a while ago that water colour pencils don't mix well with ts of any shade? and that it's hard to get blush to show also unless you use an orange tone? I was hoping someone with more experience would have some light to shed !
You don't need an orange tone. When I'm doing a brown skin tone doll (such as from Iplehouse), I use a deep maroon red (you can choose whatever darker shade you like...totally up to you). On the brown tone, this works beautifully. At first, I thought, gee....that's such a dark color....do I dare?? (What I am talking about is chalk pastel). But when applied to a darker skin tone, it's not dark at all. If you're unsure, then try some color on the head cap so you can see. You may want to go darker or maybe just a wee bit lighter. If you're going to try it on the head cap, you can do it in one of two ways....spray some sealant on the inside of the head cap and try your chalk pastel there (having powdered some of the chalk pastel) and use a soft brush. Or if you want, you can spray some sealant on the outside of the head cap and try it there. If you don't like the color, use a magic eraser sponge and wipe it off. Trust me. On the darker skin tones it doesn't come out dark. But I would NEVER use that color on a white or normal skin doll....it is TOO dark for them.
Hooray! People are still here! I just received a used Unoa Lucis from Mandarake today (2005, according to the box), and she's definitely yellowed. However - I like it, and I would love to incorporate the yellow undertones into the face up and body blushing. Any recommendations on which color pastels to use? Should I stick to more earthy tones? Tans and beiges? Would adding yellow be too much? I've watched multiple YouTube customization videos, and it always blows my mind when they pull out, say, a red pencil for eyebrows. I feel like I have no eye for color.
This is an Iplehouse light brown Ashanti that I did for someone. There is no airbrushing at all. I used a deep maroon chalk pastel (ground up) on her cheekbones and as you can see, it is not dark at all. I also brushed some dark brown under her eyes. Her lips are a combination of browns and deep maroon. Not dark at all. These colors work beautifully on the darker skinned dolls without being overly done at all. And I always use water color pencils for the fine lines (lashes, eyebrows, etc.) without any problem. Hope this helps, stargirl! (I tend to stay away from glam makeup...I prefer more natural looks.)
Personally, I think earth tones, tans and beiges would look very nice. I would test out some colors on the head cap to see how you like them (can always wipe them off). I'm sure you could get away with maybe some coral pink for cheekbones, too. Yellow might make the already yellow skin tone stand out too much. But that is just my opinion. Just saying.
SWOON! You do beautiful work! I would have never recognized her if you hadn’t said who she was. I have a Raccoondoll on layaway. I sincerely hope you’re still doing commissions when I finally receive her...
Oh gosh....I'm not the author of this thread. I just saw that no one was answering, so I jumped in. Angel Toast is the author of this thread and she is phenomenal! You can reach out to her here: http://angeltoastdolls.com/blog/
