Faceup, before and after. Thoughts?

Jan 16, 2022

    1. I overhauled my Asleep Eidolon Twilight in anticipation of her sister Polar Night arriving. I more or less kept the style of the faceup I did at first but tweaked a lot. But I'd like to know if you see more obvious improvements I could've made.
      Here's the first attempt:
I had her lipcolor run when I applied gloss, I probably didn't seal well enough. The teeth and dark parts looked rather sloppy anyway if I'm being honest:sweat. I also attempted to draw directly on her face with pencils. I don't know what I was thinking, that never looks right to me.
      Anyway, here's the second faceup:
I only used watercolour and pastels, none of that pencil business. I adjusted the colour of the brows to go better with the wig. I also blended the eyeshadow more. I also made the lashes more prominent so they wouldn't get completely swallowed by the bright makeup (probably need to practice fine lines some more). I also glued on longer ones, so there's no mismatch. Obviously I fixed the running lip and drew the dark part and teeth neater. I also used lighter colours for the lips (as well as any shading around the face) because I thought that would be too much and would compete with the focal point, the eyes.

Anything else I could improve? I know my thin lines could be neater. I don't want her to look completely out of place when put together with Polar Night.

    2. Is anyone ever totally satisfied with their line work? Even professionals will see their own mistakes. I think she's quite special. You've done a lovely job, and I'm sure she'll hold her own with her new friend.

If I'm honest, I preferred your first eyebrows. They're quieter to me. Because the grey/blue/white ones are such a different tone from her skin, my eye tends to flick toward them first (white will do this on its own) and the rest of her face after. Possibly more accurately, my eyes don't know quite where to settle because of the brows. It's not a big deal...she looks lovely...and I can control my reflexive focus, but that under color of the wig is so pretty, and the brows in the same-ish color made the yummy blue outer layer into a perfect frame for her face.

    3. I agree with Vindalootoo- your updated faceup is very lovely and it’s clear that you improved, but the eyebrows are very distracting. The brown brows worked well with the wig before, and blue brows could work too, but I think the reason they’re such a focal point is the heavy use of white to create hair definition.

If you do it again in the future I would suggest using a watercolour in the same colour family as the brows to do the individual hairs, with white being used to highlight the inner corners. :^)
(But this is absolutely not necessary and just a stylistic choice!)
