Aesthetics Face up attempt 2

Feb 5, 2019

    1. Here is a link to my first face up. I'm struggling a bit but I think it's mostly my frustration that is making this hard.I'm overly critical to myself and I think my inner critic is making this harder for me haha

*Also don't mind the random smudges on the head. And don't mind the random art supplies. I was working on a watercolor painting and felt like doing a faceup in-between paint drying.

Yes I know the eyes look very different from each other. I wanted to try different styles.

Things I currently happy with is:
      - I'm happy with my way of doing the eyeliner. I might want to switch to using paint instead of watercolor pencils since it's hard to make the edges clean with the pencil. (If anyone has tips on
      - I like the placement of the eye crease on the left side (the crease that is closer to the eyeliner.
      - The blushing looks better on the left too

      Thinks I want to improve:
      - I'm not very happy with the eyes yet. I kind of like the look of the smoky eye but my goal is for a more youthful look. The best I can describe the look I'm going for is kind of the natural Korean Makeup look. So soft but not too soft that you end up looking like a kid.
      - Eyebrows... it's hard to draw the little hairs on a surface with curves.
      - Lips. I trying to do ombre... not sure if i did it. I think it goes with the making the color stronger struggle I am having.

If you guys have tips/advice I'm all ears!

    2. I will tell you that I have done a lot of eye liner and lashes with liquid water color with the tiniest hint of water. It works like a dream for me, personally. Seeing as you like to paint, it may work better for you in some instances than watercolor pencil.

I do like the left side of the eyes better, but I usually prefer my dolls' eye creases to be closer to the eyes.

As far as getting ombre effects or smokey effects I usually have to go through a lot of layers to get it done. Lots of patience with sealing and so on. With pastels it is hard to get that effect without layering sealant.

    3. as for first face up it is amazing. looks so good and natural. your eyebrows amazingly good.

    4. I'll try watercolors next time. Is there an order you do when doing a faceup? Like do you blush then add the eyeliner/lash/crease/etc or do you do the eyeliner/lash/crease etc then do the blushing?

Also do you seal the whole face in between layers or do you spray the spots you want to add another layer too?

      @Anita2006
      Thanks :D

    5. You want to do the most detailed things last. So for me I do cheek blush, base lip blush, base eye blush, then seal. You always want to seal everything at the same time, or your faceup may become uneven. Then I add more detail or layer a little more color, and seal again. Eyeliner and lashes and eyebrow hairs and lip lines are some of the last things I do, personally. It helps keep the lines crisp.

    6. I'll try that next time. Thank you so much for the advice!!

    7. Excellent work, I particularly like the eyeliner. Two simple tips: turn the head upside down to check for symmetry, and if you are using pastels, get a gray gum eraser...it cleans up the edges nicely, and is particularly useful for putting down the basic shape of the eyebrows.

    8. I think it looks quite nice for your first try~!
And as for any tips ... I'm not sure if it works on this kind of surface but I've done it on plastic before--

basically, for ombres, you can try and heavily apply the desired color in the spot that's supposed to be the darkest with watercolor pencil, and then after with a brush or maybe even a q-tip that are very lightly wet you blend it out around the edges, mostly leaving the main body of the colour alone. with a bit of pastels on top to get any edges smoothes out it should make things a little easier ! And of course afterwards you can intensify the colour with more pastels and stuff. But it's a nice way to lay down a base !

    9. Great job, you have to practice in order to do and you are well on your way. I would love to learn this as well but it's intimidating : )

    10. I never thought of doing that. I'll try that on my next faceup. It sounds like it could work on resin. I don't see why it can't.
