Modification Face modification

Jun 15, 2022

    1. Is there a way to modify an open mouth doll to a close mouth doll? There is a doll I like, but her mouth is too open and I would prefer her mouth to be closed.

Modification seems hard. How would I go about modifying a doll's face? Is it better to pay someone to do it instead?

Is there a way to modify large eyes to smaller eyes? Is there a way to modify double eyelids to monolids for a doll's face?

    2. You can do additive mods with epoxy clays; you just have to be willing to put in the time and effort. If you don't know what you are doing, you can sand off the mods, and start again. I have done a lot of modifications on a lot of my floating heads, and one of my largest dolls. Mostly facial ones, but you can modify any part you need/want. The largest doll I own, I have made his eyes smaller and his lips fuller, with Aves Apoxie clay. I also added vampire pointy ears, and completely remove them because I didn't like how they looked the first time, then modified them a second time. There are some older threads on here, about doing additive mods. I don't know if any of them have any tutorials or step by step process. However, most should still have a bit of info to help at least guide you in the right direction. I enjoy customizing my own dolls, so I don't know if people take commissions to modify dolls, but I'm sure if there are any, you can look for them in the marketplace on here, or social media.

This is what he looked like before mods, and then what he currently looks like (I'm hoping to mod him again soon, but my Apoxie is old and I hesitate to purchase more, because I don't use it much nowadays!).

      Hope that helps.

    4. i have modded a lot of my dolls' eyes-- i've done everything from making the eyes slightly smaller, to opening them slightly wider, to drastically changing the shape and size. pretty much any change is possible; you just need epoxy clay, sandpaper, and a lot of patience. any new skill can seem hard if you've never done it before, but modding certainly isn't too hard to learn. it just takes practice like anything else. but if you don't want to do it yourself, there are people who will do mods as commissions.

    5. You definitely can, and the methods people already recommended are probably the best way to do so, the only concern would be if the mouth is too open, then it might just look off, even if you modify it, like the lips would be too full to fill the space, or you'd have to do some serious modding to the chin area and under the lips...It depends on whether or not you think it's doable. If not, maybe a different doll would be better, unless you don't mind just heavily changing the shape of her face (at least from the lips down).

    6. Throw it any image program that lets you draw on top and sketch out roughly what you want. That should help give a better idea where to put stuff now that it's in front of you and if you feel it's genuinely feasible to still look good to you.
