Eye molds?

Jul 9, 2005

    1. Does anyone know where I can get a mold for eyes? Seeleys might make one, I found it on Audrey's Dolls. But... they don't have a picture and it's sort of expensive. I've made my own mold, but I'd sort of like a ready made one. XD;;;

If you're wondering what I'm using I'm using sculpey eyeballs and casting the clear parts with "Realistic Water" for train sets. I'm stuck right now because the water breaks down the printer ink really badly. :/

    2. Don't know anything about eyemolds, but as for the water breaking down the inkjetted stuff, have you tried coating the inky bits with say, a shot of MSC or some other sealant? That'll help seal it against the water stuff.

    3. Yeah... but it keeps running. :/ I've just printed a sheet on two different kinds of paper and am sealing it with as many different things as I can think of.

I have acrylic matte sealer, acrylic gloss sealer, white glue, water effects, MSC, and just a thin layer of the Realistic Water. I was looking for my clear fingernail polish when I got sucked into reading DOA because I'm actually too tired to sew. XD; In a moment I'll go back, get some more hot tea, and pour the Realistic Water on it and see how it does.

    4. I hope you mean on the coated things...it sounds like you where putting it in your tea

    5. I've seen eye molds on ebay before under doll supplies, I think. I should have bought the mold since it had a wide range of sizes- i just knew I'd never get around to making eyes though.

    6. OMG~ no! XD;;; On the eyes! The EYES!

And I found out what works fairly well... elmers glue. o_o It sealed the red, which was running the most, enough that it blended just a enough that it looks pretty good. I just sealed a new pair of irises and poured some new lenses. Tomorrow I'll glue the sealed irises to a pair of sculpey eyeballs and then plunk them with more Realistic Water into the lenses. If it works this time, I'll try to post a tutorial sometime next week. :3

    7. I looked tonight and I couldn't find any. :/ I emailed audrey's about the Seeley's ones.

    8. Oh! Pictures please! I'd love to see what you come up with :]

    9. I could benefit from an eye mold, too. When you find a good source, please post.

    10. Yeah... i saw those and was a little wary. :/ I talked to Audrey's and they have the Seeley's still available. I"ll probably place an order later this evening. Want a few things from them anyway. X3

    11. my mom got one of the seeley's eye molds off ebay for like 20 bucks. the mold has several eye sizes on it. We used to make porcelian dolsl together so ifs the mold I am thinking of it has severl eye sizes on it and is made of plaster.

    12. Plaster? That doesn't sound like a good mold material for polymer clay.

    13. Plaster works really well for polymer clay actually.. since it's pretty powdery the powder acts as a mold release for the clay. You pop it out before you bake it. :3

I'm not sure how it'll do with Realistic Water... but we'll see.

Here's the eyes so far with the running irises. See how the red(these were originally VIBERANT red prints) ran and not the black? It's so weird. I got alumilite's two part five minute mold, but I've only managed to get ONE mold to set. >:/ I'm not doing anything different than the first mold I made either. >:/

    14. Would it be possible to see the eyes outside of the doll?

They actually look pretty good in the picture, though I think I see what you're talking about on the left side.

And this has nothing to do with eyes, but that's a kickass wig! :D

    15. thanks doubly Marylin~ :3 I got some fur from someone on the forum and I made long tubes, then rolled them up and sewed them on the wig to make buns! X3 I'll try to take a pic of just the eyes a little later... they look good inside the doll but are much less than impressive outside. XD

    16. Yes that is one kickass wig! Loooveee... <3

I would love to wait for a tutorial too. I want to try making eyes... Its so hard to find the perfect shade of purple..

    17. I guess the powder thing makes sense for they polyclay, but I can see how it might be a problem when it comes to the water stuff.

What IS Realistic Water? Is it a pourable plastic, or do you have to mix it from powder?

    18. What if you took your file to a photo place and had a dye print made -- those don't fade like ink jet and they shouldn't run, either.
