There was a mixup with my order and after contacting my dealer and their contacting the manufacturer to get things sorted, it was determined that I was sent the wrong doll-a 1/6th scale versus the 1/4 I'd ordered. This might not be as big a shipping issue with most humanoid dolls, but in this case even the 1/6 scale is large and came in two separate shipping boxes. Alice's offered me two options-taking the 1/6 doll at a discount while the 1/4 scale is made, or return the 1/6 doll with them paying for the shipping costs. I think I can find a big enough box to fit both of the parts boxes in together, so them being split up in shipping isn't a concern. However, the size of the package, its value, and the fact that it'd have to get back into China makes me worry. Has anyone had to do a return like this? This would be shipping back via USPS, per Alices' request.
I didn’t have to do a return, but I had to do a switch with another buyer. Both of us bought dolls from an artist in Spain, and she (in Australia) and I (in Canada) had to switch dolls. The artist paid exchange shipping, and she shipped to me, while I shipped to her. I arranged both shipping routes on netparcel, and then paid both and had the artist reimburse me. I have, however, also shipped a really expensive shipment to China. I shipped by UPS, so there will be some differences, but a Chinese address is three lines, not two. In a Canadian address, line 1 is house number and then street name, line two is city and province. In a Chinese address line 1 is the house number and street name, line 2 is the district, line 3 is the city/province. Also definitely probably pay for insurance, and declare as a return at full value. Yes, Alice’s will have to pay a ton of customs on the package, but it’s worth it to have the coverage if something goes wrong. I had no issues with my shipment, because it was wrapped like crazy (it was worth 1200 USD, I took no chances!)
Why would you worry? Once it's shipped it's no longer your responsibility. So long as you have proof it was properly packaged and shipped as per their requirements (take timestamped pictures of the whole process if necessary) then that's it. It's not your fault if anything happens to it one it leaves your hands. They sent the wrong item, your shipping it as per their requirements is part of the process of THEM putting the error right. Teddy
Don't worry, Cryptid, its a pure mistake from Alice's collection, not its your fault. I highly recommended you take pics and videos about the entire process of the re-package, and the each item inside. Well protected and repackaged, like Alices shipped to you, shipping back but inside a big box. Good luck! And hope you can get your doll soon!
It's the combo of having to return a very expensive item to another country, having to put my trust in more than one country's postal system (and customs), and good old anxiety. Plus having to fill out the customs forms to leave the US, though I at least hope that the post office can help with that. But yes, I'll be getting a good sturdy box today and taking photos to send along with the tracking once everything has gone out.
Shippings always are stressing, but if you wrapped well in bubble paper inside and protected extra with double box, I'm pretty sure that wrong doll will come back to destiny perfectly fine. How its impossible that you could be in calm mode with a doll in travel, you just only give everything of your part to do the best with the box. Ask in your postal office about how to fill the dates for customs. Only need Alices address, phone, and declare about the items, just, 'Resin doll' and value. Don't worry too much about this. It will be more easy that you imagine, but the firsts times everything seems more complicated. Everything will be ok, don't worry too much.
I had to ship a wrong doll back to Alices but it was a 1/6 doll so not so stressful! It went fine, I think the only issue was that AC paid me for the shipping but as it was a new paypal transaction, I had to pay the fee on it so you might lose a few dollars on the shipping. Out of curiosity, I saw your unboxing video and did DV confirm the wings are the right 1/4 size? Or are the wings actually 1/6 like the body? I was thinking if the wings are the right size then only the body needs to go back for exchange so you don't have to faff with the second box.
The wings are actually 1/6 as well-DV requested a photo of the wings with the measuring tape to confirm. I plan to get an update video out sometime this weekend; the main thing right now is just getting this guy back to where he should be.
I'm glad you were able to confirm whether or not the wings were for the body, but yes, that does make it more of a pain to send back! I have my fingers crossed that it doesn't take too much longer before you get the correct doll
I've been in more communication with Alice's-like I noted in the little update video I just did, I think the cost of getting something that big back to China was a sticker shock even to them. I eventually settled on paying for him at a reduced price, and he'll be going to live with my best friend. (Will shipping still suck for that big of a box? Yes, but not as much.) I've asked Alice's if they have an rough estimate at this time, but my personal guess is going to be the August-September period. There's just so many parts to these guys that require sanding and stringing.
Your friend is very lucky and bad luck for you... receiving your order so quick but ends up being wrong May I ask whether the 1/6 is cat size when posed with a 1/3 larger bjd (if you have done this of course). I ordered 1/4 and 1/6... hoping to have them as (fantasy) pet dolls, dog and cat size respectively
Alice really messed this one up Out of curiosity, how much was the shipping estimate to send the box/boxes back to China? She probably doesn't need to deal with paying for shipping to China that often and didn't consider it would be as bad as it is.
I have no idea what the usps price would be, but I paid something like $130 USD to ship a full 1/3 scale doll to China with $1200 of insurance. It’s steep, but not significantly worse than what I’d pay to ship to Europe
I don't have a 1/3 BJD to compare the 1/6 to, unfortunately. Might come across as a large cat; IE, a maine coon. I have no clue if this was a mistake on Alice's end, or if DV sent the wrong size for me and nobody caught it 'til I said something. The shipping estimate back to China was about $137.
Thank you a large cat size will work I remember New Clover Singing saying that the Griffin dragon demand has been high which was why the preorder period had been extended. I am really curious how many were ordered now
Yes, a new neck piece is being cast alongside a the 1/4 dragon, and will be included when he comes my way. Depending on timing I'll send the neck piece on its own or include it in the Christmas box.
