Epoxy Resin Q

Dec 10, 2013

    1. Hi all,

So I've been reading through the posts on resins and there's a lot of discussion of polyurethane and polyester resins, but nothing much on epoxy. So I assume it's not suitable for casting bjds. Or is it? Could someone please explain to me the reason of why it's not suitable?

      Thanks

    2. I've had some experience with epoxy resin--casting clear resin gemstones. I've only been able to find clear epoxy resin (like Clearcast) and I've found it's not as durable as other forms of resin--it takes a long time to set. I use epoxy resin primarily for its clarity (It does make good resin gemstones if you're using a plastic resin mold, not so good if you use a silicone RTV mold since it clouds the surface of the gem.) There are better alternatives to epoxy resin when it comes to making opaque items that have quick set times.
