Shipping EMS tracking and courier problem

Jun 14, 2010

    1. OK, it started this month. I had a couple of items shipped to me via EMS (because I like the security of being able to track it online) but found that everytime I use the tracking numbers on any EMS and relevant postal tracking site, I kept getting variants of "Record not found".

I saw in a site that lists the courier/postal services EMS uses for Canada that they use Canada Post to deliver their parcels, and that had been the case prior to June. Those 2 items have been delivered to me by DHL and Purolator.

Now, as a trial to see if it's just from those origin places (China & Malaysia) that this is happening to, I decided to order something from the usual place I buy things from (Korea) just to be sure. And lo and behold, tracking tells me "Record Not Found."

      My beef is that:
      1) the tracking numbers are now useless if you're trying to view them online
      2) I don't know which courier company is now handling the item(s) I'm expecting
      3) courier companies like DHL, Purolator (and especially UPS) have immense handling charges on top of customs fees.
      4) I didn't exactly pay to get DHL/Purolator service

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem (because this is making me wary of ordering a doll).

Have you had a recent purchase and got an EMS tracking number that doesn't work?

Have you had a different from the usual postal service deliver your EMS parcel to you?

      Thanks for any replies.

    2. A couple of weeks ago I ordered from Crobidoll; and had this exact problem. My tracking number produced the "Record not found" problem, both on the EMS website and the USPS website. I found it strange that according to Crobidoll, my package had been handed over to USPS when I clearly stated I lived in the UK.... >.>

Unfortunately I wasn't home when my package was delivered (it turned up fine and within the week) so I can't tell you if it was different to my regular delivery service; but it didn't arrive with the regular mail, and my brother had to sign for it, so I assume it was some form of courier... Although I wasn't charged at all for customs, handling fees etc...

Fingers crossed that in the next couple of weeks my doll order will arrive which is being shipped via EMS from Korea; so I might be able to tell you a little bit more when they arrive :)

    3. Thanks for the input of your experience, ImpishParody.

EMS does require a signature upon delivery. And that's lucky to get a courier service that didn't charge you customs ^^

I wish there was an announcement of sorts that can easily be found (my google-fu currently sucks) that states something about previous affiliated postal services no longer working with EMS (as seems to be the case with Canada Post).

    4. Just wanted to say I was wondering about this too!

Usually EMS hands over to Parcelforce in the UK & I can track online as soon as it arrives. At the moment I am unable to do this. I did phone PF & they seemed to know about my parcel (but just said it was stuck in customs). It's a little strange though, I'm just wondering because recently I read someone had this happen to them & then it got delivered by FedEx in the end.

      A bit curious!

    5. I've been having problems as well recently - with a package from Hong Kong, and now one from Korea.

I've been finding that the EMS website works fine, but whenever I try and track the package through the Parcelforce site, it gives me a variation on "we can't update you on the status of this package". It's really annoying, as I prefer the way the Parcelforce tracking looks - and it's much easier to tell if I've been hit by customs via the PF tracking.

SarahRachael, if you don't know about it already, you might find that this site works for you, because it's working for me with my latest tracking numbers (so at least you can see that your packages exist/are moving!)

    6. *holds up hand* same here, mine made it all the way from the states to the UK without ever showing up on the UK tracking service. If I hadn't got a customs letter for it, I'd never even have known it was in the country.

I suspect the system worldwide is having issues since this doesn't seem to affect just ONE country or courier!

    7. I am getting the same thing with a package comming from Italy. The italian tracking service works fine, but as soon as I pop the information into the Australian postal site the package can't be found. This is even though the Italian site is telling me that it is in Australia and has passed through customs.
It might be because the tracking number starts with ZC as opposed to the usual EE or EC, but I wouldn't think that it would matter all that much as its still registered international tracking.

    8. Yikes!! I hope it's not permanently changed to be this way in Canada. I have not had good experiences with Purolator or DHL. My packages that have been arriving via EMS up until May have arrived through my regular Canada Post worker. The last package I received (a few days ago) was sent via USPS and it arrived through Canada Post. I honestly don't want to pay all of the brokerage fees on top of my EMS fees and customs fees if that's how it's going to change.

    9. This is happening with me as well, from Elfdoll to the UK. My EMS number is accepted. I asked Elfdoll about it without a reply so maybe this is what has happened to me. Hope to get a customs or it just to show up soon!

    10. I had a box come from the US to the UK with an EMS tracking number which didn't show up on the Parcelforce website, but which I could track via the USPS site. When it showed 'Released from UK customs' on the tracking, I phoned my local Parcelforce depot and was told it was there, waiting for me to pay the charges...not sure what would have happened if I hadn't phoned...

      *rolls eyes*

      Alicex

    11. I emailed Elfdoll and they checked the EMS for me saying its in customs. I rechecked the tracking on epost and it works! So try epost or emailing the company you bought from.

    12. I second Who_la_hoop's suggestion of using the Track-Trace site as I've found parcels show up fine there whereas other sites can't find them, plus you have many courier company choices to try the tracking number on to find the correct one.

      Good luck!

    13. I don't seem to be having problems tracking through the Track-Trace website with my current Iplehouse order being shipped via EMS.

EDIT: O_O I spoke too soon! It's not showing up as being really updated on the Canada Post website, but is being scanned along the way and shown on the EMS website. My tracking number isn't showing up on Purolator or DHL, only Canada Post. So I wonder if it will still be Canada Post that delivers it.

    14. Update: I was corresponding with Canada Post about their delay in tracking updates and they said this in regards to EMS shipments to Canada...

      1) The shipments are meant to be speedy like Xpresspost, but they are in fact treated as regular mail
      2) They are not responsible for scanning said items (they may or may not do so)
      3) Even if you have paid to have a 'signature required' option, they can waive this option at their discretion
      4) All they are responsible for is delivering the item (even if you have paid for tracking, delivery confirmation, a signature required option, etc)

What I got from this is that they could basically care less if you can track a shipment or if you paid for extra items to ensure your parcel's safety, etc.

    15. glad I found this thread and that Im not alone. On Koreapost (through the track-trace site), the EMS tracking shows up as being at the delivery office, which I presume is my nearest depot. However parcelforce tracking doesn't work and neither does the main Royal Mail site, does that mean that they haven't allocated a GB tracking number yet if so, is the korea tracking wrong? its so confusing :? also, there's a guarenteed delivery date of today; why issue a guarenteed delivery date from Korea to the UK, there's almost certainly going to be delays especially with customs. So I'm resigned to hoping my package coming some time this week, I like being able to know where my package is :( why have tracking if its not reliable?

    16. Quite a few people have been saying that Parcelforce is down lately. I'm not sure how tracking works in the UK, but in Canada the EMS number doesn't change. When I used the Track and Trace website it was more accurate with its tracking than Canada Post (which didn't update my tracking for 4 days!). I suggest calling your nearest depot with your tracking number and see what they say.

    17. For Canada post, tracking should be updated after each scan(including leaving the origin country, arriving to canada, entering the warehouse, out for delievery and delievered). It is wierd that you dont get your updates if you are served by Can Post, one of the reason might be that Canada post does out-give their jobs to Purolator/DHL during busy periods(good thing is that Purolator rarely charge custom fee, not sure about DHL). If that happen you can still track your package via the Japan post website or the Purolator website.

So far I dont have much of a problem with Canada post compare to UPS and Fedex... maan UPS's warehouse is far, and if requires you to drive there for a pick-up...

    18. thanks, I'll call my nearest parcelforce depot tomorrow if it doesn't come today

    19. I recently purchased Jointed hands from Doll Leaves but the tracking just stopped. It says it left the country but that's it. No new updates since then and I am getting worried. A package from Korea was sent on the same day, the 23 and it arrived yesterday without problems.

So is it China EMS that has problems? Or did the Canadian Postmen forgot to zap it? Or is it lost? O_O It's only been 5 days out of the usual 7.

    20. I was told directly from Canada Post this:
      1) The shipments are meant to be speedy like Xpresspost, but they are in fact treated as regular mail
      2) They are not responsible for scanning said items (they may or may not do so)
      3) Even if you have paid to have a 'signature required' option, they can waive this option at their discretion
      4) All they are responsible for is delivering the item (even if you have paid for tracking, delivery confirmation, a signature required option, etc)

Here is their e-mail to me...

      Hello *******,

Thank you for your message to Canada Post regarding incoming EMS items.

Global Priority Mail is positioned between their Express Mail International Service (EMS) and 1st class mail. Global Priority Mail coming into Canada travels in the Xpresspost stream; however, it is delivered like regular mail with no scanning and no signature collected upon delivery. This is not a new change, in the past you may have received the EMS items in this fashion but this doesn't mean that we are required to follow this. our responsibility is as stated below regarding EMS items. As previously stated, this is as far as our responsibilities goes with EMS items. We do tender the signature and scannings as the customer has paid for this in the originating country. But in the irregular event in which this hasn't been done we must advise our customers of the policies regarding EMS items.

I hope I have clarified things for you.

      Regards,
      ****** *******
      Customer Service
      --------------------------------------------------------

I received my item directly from Canada Post (and it was processed by Canada Post), not Purolator and not DHL. To re-iterate, they said they do not have to scan items and they do not have to give you signature confirmation (even if you paid for it via EMS). So, if others like satyrsmoon and myself are having issues, they basically said they are not liable nor are they accountable for said issues.

Duofan -- Have you checked the Track-Trace website? What does it say on the China EMS site? In my experience with China EMS, it is much slower than Korea and Japan EMS because the Chinese Customs officials thoroughly check outgoing packages (it usually adds several days or upwards of a week onto the original schedule). Wait a few more days and hopefully your tracking will be updated. There are a few threads in this forum on China EMS, but it could be the regular slowness of China EMS in conjunction with Canada Post not scanning the items. They should at least do a final scan after your item is out of customs though.

    21. Thanks for the information! No I tracked the number and it hasn't moved for days! Still says it is "en route " to destination.
Doesn't mention if it even arrived in Canada or not...

    22. Yeah, I've had that issue through China EMS before. In many cases, the tracking wasn't updated for up to 7 business days. Did the China EMS site say it left China already though? On the Canada Post website my parcel was listed as "en route" for four days before being updated to say it was being processed by Canada Post (but it was fully updated on the Korean EMS website).

    23. hi,i have just been given a number ,ems number works fine on usps site, but on parcelforce nothing!!!
      are they still having problems,??
its weird cause when i bought a doll from spain with ems number afew weeks ago it ended up being delivered by fedex, which i was surprised about,
still really they should have fixed it by now :(

    24. I have no idea, I have 3 things that I am using EMS right now and none of them has moved!
I have one from Japan, 2 from CHina. t's like all EMS service is down or something. The worse thing is that the EMS from Japan cost me 90$! There are 2 scans on the Japan EMS track, but on Canada Post there is nothing.

It is usually pretty fast and reliable. I am wondering what is happening @_@

    25. Sorry, I updated my post on the first page with information that Canada Post gave me. I was basically told that they will try to scan items as they go along, but they're not obligated to do so. I would just keep an eye on the Track-Trace website (that links you to the originating countries' EMS trace) and then wait for the Canada Post tracking to be updated eventually. It usually is fast and reliable tracking on Canada Post, but apparently that isn't the case anymore.

    26. Yeah I read it! I am so disappointed. The package from Japan, I had the Option for using DHL and I have heard so many bad cases that I decided to use EMS, but it cost me 90$! It better arrive next week.

On the Japanese Track there is 2 scans and on the Canada Post one, the Number doesn't exist yet! This is quite worrisome for me, especially when I have 3 packages with EMS and one is already a week late!

I would understand if it's the Christmas Holidays but it's not.

    27. Yeah, my Canada Post EMS tracking wasn't updated for four days, but it was updated the day before it was delivered. I imagine yours will be updated like that as well. Just follow the Japanese tracking for now.

    28. parcelforce still has no record of my tracking number even though i know it is in uk customs on the usps site,at least i can track it through there,il give them a ring monday morning and ask why there is no record of my parcel???
      stupid parcelfarce!!!

    29. This happened to me with a Package I mailed to USA. I called Canada Post and asked about why it was late. They told me they don't know what happened, even thought there was clearly tracking. That they have no power over the parcels, It has been 3 weeks! ( I used Expedited and it is usually 2 weeks at MOST ) the guy just told me that I need to wait another week, and if there is no news of the parcels, then they will just open a missing package claims so I can have my money back :(

As for my packaged, 1 from TATA EMS package arrived at Customs ( shipped 28th June )
I ordered DOll Leaves Hands, No news for 12 DAYS ( Sent June 22 ! )
Packaged from Japan mandarake , ( Shipped June 30 , No news on Canada Post and only 2 scans on Japan EMS )
Package from Japan Private Seller ( Shipped July 2, Tracking available on Canada Post )

So I am hoping all my packages will arrive this week, especially the hands I ordered, It has been more a week without updates, Doll Leaves say it might be slow EMS from China and their shipper said 8-10 business days I am assuming ( But Canada Post updated the Package from TATA saturday )

Anyways I guess I am just freaking out, but that is a LOT of packages, worth a lot of money and people think I am silly fretting. but each package is like a 3 digit number @_@"

    30. The exact same thing has happened twice to me in the past couple of weeks. I emailed Parcelforce the last time and all they did was apologise - no clue given as to WHY...

      *shakes head in disbelief*

      Alicex

    31. well i just rang them and of course they were totally unhelpful as always!!
the snotty lady on the end of the phone just said it wasnt in the uk yet, even though usps clearly states it is,i said why hasnt the number even been recognized as being dispatched from sender,or left orgin country etc (as it always does show even before it turns into a GB number)she wouldnt admit the tracking was wrong,
i just hope that when it leaves customs that il get a letter from parcelforce with my GB number onit,or that usps keeps me informed all the way to my door,it is an expensive parcel

    32. I haven't been able to get the Parcelforce tracking to work for weeks now. I've emailed them numerous times to complain but I just get an automated email back saying they are sorry and will look into the problem. Needless to say nothing ever happens. it seems to be worse with EMS for some reason. It's beyond me why they can't sort it out, given the huge amounts they charge us in so-called handling fees.

    33. I've never had issues with EMS tracking numbers until now. :C My Migidoll head from S.Korea was supposed to ship on the 2nd, but my tracking number is still showing up as "no record," even in the track/trace website. :< I hope that I either receive the head soon or the tracking number updates!

(Google brought me here to answer my woes, hahah.)

    34. I have this issue also. I have a doll shipped from US to Indonesia. From USPS tracking site I see that it's in the custom, but I can't track it at my country's post website. This is so annoying. I hope my package will arrive quick and well :| My previous shipment never have this problem, so i wonder why...

    35. Maybe it has something to do with the ems code? Previously all of my shipments always have EE code in the beginning...and now my package has CW in the beginning. Can someone helps me explain what's the meaning of this code?

    36. I just ran into this issue. I shipped a doll body from Malaysia to Canada, but was starting to panic because after 7 days there were no updates on track-trace aside from 2 scans when the package was posted (from EMS HQ here in Kuala Lumpur). I only found out the package was delivered when the buyer posted in my feedback thread and noted that the delivery was made by DHL. (all in all the delivery took 10 days total - minus weekends, 6 working days.)

Needless to say I'm mightily exasperated that my customer paid for tracking that Canada Post rendered completely useless by handing their job off to a private courier service that doesn't use that tracking number. At least it arrived safely, though Canada Post's tracking page still says only "Item mailed in origin country.":doh
