Lost/Damaged EMS lost dolls

Jan 12, 2022

    1. Sorry if a thread like this exists, but I'm sort of freaking out and nothing seems to match.

In early September 2021 I submitted a parcel through my taobao agent (superbuy) to be delivered to me in the US. I chose EMS, and it cost almost $200 to ship since I decided to ship multiple items together and it was pretty heavy. In this parcel was a doll and 4 artist heads, amongst other items like clothes and wigs.

It's January 12, 2022, and today my agent finally confirmed that the package is lost. The last update, on September 3, was "Guangzhou City, has been handed over to the carrier for transportation". It seems that my parcel never made it out of China, and my agent has been telling me since October that it was supposedly waiting for a flight.

Now my agent is trying to offer me the lost item insurance that I bought, but I'm terrified that taking this insurance will be the nail in the coffin for this package. Is it possible that they will ever find it? And if they do, will they destroy or sell off its contents since I accepted the insurance? I don't even know if the insurance is through my agent or the shipping service so I don't know if it would have any effect on anything.

I'm devastated, since these artist heads were very short run and the artists show no signs of selling them again. On top of that, EMS is charging me the full $173 shipping fee for losing my items which just feels like a kick in the teeth. I've never faced such a huge loss in this hobby... I've been waiting for some of these heads since January 2021.

Has anyone been in any sort of situation like this? Is there any hope of my parcel miraculously showing up someday? Is accepting my lost parcel insurance a death sentence for my items? This past few months seems like a perfect storm (The supply chain disaster, covid spikes, and the holidays to put a cherry on top of the shit sundae) so I'm guessing not many people have been in this exact situation, but I figured it was worth a try.

Even if not... thanks for listening to my bitching, anyways. :(

    2. I had one stuck there for 2 months from August 31st until November 14th. That was before the holidays and Omicron. I recently got a message from an Etsy seller saying that mail in China that goes by air was being held up because of an Omicron outbreak, flights were being canceled because the crews were having to isolate. Now all this mail is probably backed up. It’s similar to how the cargo ship back up happened on the west coast. I don’t know if this helps your decision but it looks like yours got stuck only 3 days after mine. I wonder if you can ask your agent if you can wait another few weeks and still accept the insurance if it doesn’t move.

    3. Hello! I had a dress ordered from an australian hobbyist. I paid for tracked and insured airmail shipping. But their postal worker made a mistake with the stickers, so my dress went via sea mail. So it took over 4 months to arrive.

I would ask the seller to wait a bit more, if it is possible. And he should inform himself, what happens, if the heads are showing up again.

And yeah. Back then I felt upset and betrayed as well. Because I payed for the immense more expensive airmail shipping and got my package via ship, so slowly that both, me and the seller believed that the parcel is lost. Oh, and tracking stopped as well in my case.

So I think, there is a reason for your delayed package. I wish you all the best and a happy ending.

      Please keep us informed!

    4. Hi, have bought through Bhiner Taobao Agent. Pre Covid (We're talking 2018 here) a parcel went missing. It was ems and was insured. At the time I was told that it was the agency who had to refund me the order + shipping as they shipped, it's their responsibility and the shipping comes out of their pocket. EMS however will still have recieved and kept the money so they STILL are obliged to deliver should the parcel turn up in their system. My parcel turned up a total of 10 months after shipping & 5 months after refund soggy & wet but doll undamaged!

Please note just my experience and what I have been told by one agent. But I hope this helps.

    5. I'm pretty sure taking the insurance doesn't mean the package gets thrown in the trash if it is still somewhere out there. There's usually a recommended time to wait and the money back is a courtesy. It could still show up but I feel for you. Mail is really bad with COVID and for a while EMS started going back to normal but now it's back to terrible.

My package from China was given to the airport on 11/30 and no movement since then. I'm hoping it shows up but even stuff from Japan via EMS hasn't moved in weeks. To be safe, I'm coughing up the $$ for DHL and FedEx only until way after this all blows over. Sending you good vibes that it magically appears!

    6. Thanks for the input guys, its helped ease my mind a bit. I'm waiting for a response from my agent right now, since I think a lot of what I do next hinges on their policies.

@NineOneThree That is crazy that your package got stuck at almost the exact same time! I am suspicious that the Omicron outbreak played a major part in my package getting lost, so I'm really hoping that it's just very backed up.

@poisonapple88 I'm not sure why I assumed that getting insurance would be forfeiting my package, but it's nice to know that's probably not the case. :sweat I'm really hoping at this point that mail is just really really slow. I've definitely learned my lesson when it comes to EMS shipping... only DHL from now on.

    7. I think mail out of China is just extremely backed up so I wouldn’t give up hope! I used Sugargoo as my Taobao proxy for an order last year. They shipped my package on August 20th and it didn’t get delivered to me until December 8th (109 days overall). It was stuck at the airport for months, which makes sense considering the limited flights, staffing shortages, and covid-related shutdowns. I used 17track and just checked it every day even after it said the tracking number expired. Super exciting when it started tracking again in December. I hope your package turns up!

    8. Sort of a non-update... It's April 7th 2022 now, and there has been no movement on this package at all. That's over 7 months. I got the insurance on the parcel, so my agent now seems completely unwilling to help any further. I also have another EMS package that is similarly dead for about 4 months, and I don't have high hopes for that one either.

      I've given up.

This whole experience has definitely put a huge damper on the collecting side of the hobby for me. This would have been just a little annoying if it had been clothes or something, but the fact that it was artist heads I can't replace really upsets me. But there's nothing that can be done about it but learn from it... and I've learned that I'll never be shipping anything via EMS ever again.

    9. This thread makes me nervous since my package is also in Guangzhou City and has been sitting for over a month :shudder

    10. @Mistress_Wish I wouldn't worry too much yet- I think that level of delay is just normal these days :sweatEspecially since (iirc) Guangzhou has been hit pretty hard by covid in the past month or so and there have been lockdowns as a result. I think I just have really bad luck with packages. :lol:Hopefully yours starts moving again before too much longer.
