Shipping EMS "Guaranteed Delivery" dates

Dec 29, 2009

    1. I've been waiting for my dear DIM MNM body to arrive. The tracking was given on the 23rd and I have been checking the tracking multiple times daily. Since the 24th it says the body has been at the local international airport - and it is now the 29th. According to EMS, the "Guaranteed Delivery Date" is 2009.12.29.

      Should I start getting worried?

Does this mean customs has it? To find out if it IS customs, how do I know?

Because the body doesn't arrive on the "Guaranteed Delivery Date," does that mean I should make some kind of claim or report or start asking questions?

EDIT: I now know that customs is a mean force to be reckoned with. But! Lots of companies have things like "7 days after arrival to check for damage" before the company no longer claims any responsibility. Clearly the EMS date isn't accurate thanks to JFK and customs, and that the tracking gets screwed up too. So what if there is a few weeks lag in delivery. And then what if someone's doll is broken. Would the company believe us that customs had the doll all this time...?

    2. That 'guaranteed date' means squat, unfortunately. There is a huge hold up in US customs right now, and the USPS won't take responsibility for time that your package remains with customs (which, truly, is only fair...they can't control it). Check out the tracking for your package...if the package is still listed at the airport, then it's a good guess that customs is sitting on it. Don't get too panicked, just a little patient. :) A lot of times, the tracking won't even update, and your postal carrier will suddenly be at your door with a big doll box.

Makes you wonder why they even bother with tracking sometimes...

    3. Oh, thank you you, Junkets.

That was very helpful. I thought customs was some special center... I didn't know it was at the airport. So I will be patient. Thanks!

    4. my daughter was guaranteed an ems package to be here on the 24th. needless to say it did not arrive then and still hasn't, even tho its tracking says it was delivered. my daughter called and found out the package is still at customs. god knows when it will actually get here.

    5. I have the same problem too!

I ordered a package last monday and they shipped it on the 23rd, on the 24th it left Japan and right now on the ems/canadapost it says that it only got updated on the 28th saying that it has arrived in Canada and has just enteredted customs! Today there has been no updates at all! >_< Usually EMS is reliable but I never thought that it would slowly trail around like this because of the holidays!

I just hope that it gets out of customs tomorrow....or even better get to my place -_-"

So technically it has only been 4 BUSINESS DAYS but from the 23rd to today that is like 7 days XD * Bangs head *

Anyways I am sure your package is like mine, in customs >_<

    6. This is exactly the bind my poor Dambi is in! Our seller (in Korea) paid extra for Dec. 24th "guaranteed" delivery; the box was tracked safely to NYC by the 19th and then dropped off the map. When Dambi hadn't reached us by the 25th, the seller checked with EMS and was told that due to (a) the blizzard and (b) Xmas, there's a huge backlog at JFK Airport and it will take a few WEEKS for everything to be cleared and forwarded. AGH!

So I guess a lot of us have resin children waiting unhappily on the tarmac...:(

    7. Sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat :( I bought a doll for a Christmas present for my room mate - it was send EMS from Korea with a "guaranteed delivery" of 12/24 and the EMS site says it got to JFK airport in NYC on the 19th and the USPS site only shows it leaving Korea and nothing past that - I just hope he's not lost and only sitting in customs, I'm sure that between the huge snowstorm on the 20th & the Christmas rush that they got overwhelmed! I just wish they'd how where he is now!

    8. LOL we both posted at once! I do want to see you get your Dambi as soon as possible (at the very least before your birthday!!!!!)

    9. Same thing happened to me. I was worried for a bit, because since the 14th I didn't have any tracking update on it. And then POOF, the package magically appeared again on the radar in customs on the 24th. I received my package earlier today. : ) I hope everyone gets their things soon.

    10. Also the same for me, not expecting it before Christmas of course though. My ResinSoul body was sent out on the 24th and was on the plane to JFK the 24th.

Multiple weeks for EMS is pretty unreasonable, even with the holidays. That's the whole point of paying all that extra money. (yes I know how things slow down during the holidays, but never had an issue with overnight or ems.)

      What makes it worse is that my package is going to have to go through Detroit's major airport and with the current scare, it'll be even longer. -.-;

    11. Wow, it seems like JFK just kind of sucks. We're all in teh same boat, north-easterners. EMS itself is amazing, when I order from Luts the package comes BEFORE the posted arrival date. This is my first experience with customs doing anything... arrrgh.

Also, question... Lots of companies have things like "7 days after arrival to check for damage" before the company no longer claims any responsibility. But how does the company know if we get the item or not? Do they know exactly when? Clearly the EMS date isn't accurate thanks to JFK and customs, and that the tracking gets screwed up too. So what if there is a few weeks lag in delivery. And then what if someone's doll is broken. Would the company believe us that customs had the doll all this time...?

    12. I've had the same experience with LUTS, the package came before the scheduled date.

As far as breakages, etc. I think it depends on the company, some are more trusting of their customers word over the others. Though contacting them in advance with your concerns about the delay would make them aware it's taking much longer and if there was a problem, they would be more likely to help with it.

I've already contacted ResinSoul about this delay to make them aware of it.

I would like to call the customs office at JFK to voice my concern, specifically about the fragile nature of our packages, but I'm having trouble finding a number. I had heard that they're now checking many, if not most, of the international packages. However, many BJD items are classified as toys and would not/should not get a customs charge.

Interesting note: I've been looking up reviews on JFK airport. Seems like it has many unpleasant workers. -.-; Oh joy.

    13. Yay - Dambi has finally arrived, only one week late LOL!
