Elli ~ My first BJD!

Nov 11, 2014

    1. Hey guys. :XD
This is my doll! I've been working on her for a few months. She's about 20 inches tall. She'll be my first finished doll ever! (first out of five tries!)
      Her name is Elli. :)

I started the core with sculpey and shelled paper clay around it, then cut it into halves.

And here she is almost done!

    2. She is cute. I love the body proportion, it similar with my current (first) project too, however mine would be around 24 inch, hopefully.

It will be very nice to see her finished, good luck :)

    3. she has such a sweet face! :) she looks wonderful!

    4. I'm glad you like her! Good luck with your doll, Twinage! I would love to see her. :)

      Thank you, hlbmlp!

    5. Are her tight joints going to be attached to the torso or spin with the leg? Sorry it's hard to word this question for me -__-;;;
It looks like the ball joint is too shallow to spin properly if it's not attached to her torso, that might give you unbalance later. Can she sit upright?

    6. I don't think she can sit properly yet. ;-; But I'll try to fix it!
Do you think the torso side should be deeper or the leg? You seem like you know what you're doing.
Thank you for your help! If you can suggest anything else that would be great. :D

    7. Usually it's a combination of them both, but on the torso can look graceful depending how you design it...... If you observe how a person's leg/hip looks when they're seated, you'll see how the flesh folds, that might help you figure how you want it to look like! Looking at other dolls is also good to help on that.

And from your pictures it's hard to tell if the leg sockets are aligned with the torso in a straight line. Keeping them aligned helps tons with the balance
Check that out and let us know how it goes!

    8. Okay, thank you for your help! I'll update you when I get her hips worked on! Right now I'm working on her knees and elbows. :D

    9. I haven't posted in ages! :dead I can't figure out to posted pictures, but I'm trying!
Here we have Elli fully strung and able to stand! Finally!
i worked on her face a bit and her limbs are thicker too. I'm still working on her, but she's looking better.
I'm considering sanding down her upper thigh hip area and joining them(the leg and the hip joint) together so they don't twist around so much, it's a bit of a hassle, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not. Suggestions?
