Hi All, For those of you who know me, my preferred medium has been hand sculpting. I went ahead and tried out digital, and I'm sold on using it going forward. It has it's pros and cons, but I've been happy with the results thus far. I updated an old character, changed her name, and Eliza was born. I've been working on modeling her for a while now and feel ready to share intermediate progress. Edit: if the link is broken here in the forum, you may be able to click this link to view the video: Eliza Sculpting Cheers!
Alrighty, quick drop in! I 3D printed a version of Eliza's head recently as a test, but wasn't quite happy with the result. The mouth was a little wide proportionally when printed. So I went back to my sculpting to reduce the width of the mouth, play with a few other proportions/keep working on details, and then most recently I took a deep dive anatomy lesson from a friend. It helped a ton! Here's where we are at: She still needs some smoothing and detailing but she's coming right along. I'm liking her a lot!
Hi Everybody, I am nearly finished with Eliza's body, but decided to order a print of her head in the meantime. She's looking pretty cute! The final thing I have to do is make the torso 2-parts and resculpt the hands. So I went ahead and ordered my own 3D printer and I'm working on those last two things while I wait for my own machine. Here's an image of the body with the knees cut in, as well as some glamour shots of her head on a body comparable in size/shape to Volks SDC. Cheers!
Hey everybody! Back again with an exciting update! I got my own 3D printer and, after completing the sculpt of Eliza's body, I printed her! I'm very happy with the silhouette, and most of the joints function very well (she's very precariously strung, so without 3 hands to help hold the camera, I won't demo for the moment, but all the double joints I created work like a dream). That being said, while the knee joints are functional, I do not like them. When the knees are bent, they look like a big cut in the knee, which I don't find aesthetically pleasing, let alone acceptable. So back to a bit more sculpting work and a reprint! Her main body also was a test print only... it will now be updated into a 2-part torso since I like the shape. I was able to adjust the photo since the print was red, and achieve a preview of what a resin color would look like!! [photo is showing broken for me, so here's a link if you need: Imgur: The magic of the Internet ] I've got a small list of touch-ups to do, including working on the mouth just a bit, so she has a more genuine smile... and I'd like to add a few more details to the hands and feet. Otherwise I'm SUPER happy with this body. For those of you who have been with me on my doll-making journey.. this is a pretty big step up from the last one Happy New Year!
Hi Y'all... Almost there. I reprinted Eliza to get a few feature I wanted, like a lightning bolt cutout, behind which I will put an LED panel, as well as star-shaped knees. The knees need a little bit of touching up to fully "pop" but also remain a nice profile, and to update their integrity just a bit.... but they're functional! Yay! I've altered the colors on these photos to give an idea of some colors I'll be casting her in. Thanks for looking!
