[Adopted] Elfdoll Mini LovelyDolls Discussion part 1

Jan 19, 2008

    1. I know this is totally drudging up an old post, but I've been staring at a lot of Dami and Yumi pics lately, and I had a question for the owners!

Do you mind sharing how you find their body posing, in comparison to say volks, or bluefairy, or any other company you may own? I like that they have the extra elbow joint, and I like their weediness in comparison to other chunkier msds :) I'd just love to know how well they pose <3

    2. Well they are a bit slimmer than blue fairy so thats pretty slim! they do fit unoa clothing its a bit loose! does work though I have lots. The posing is the best I have!! they are better than unoa balance is exceptional for standing and sitting you can actually leave them and not come back to the doll fallen over and the arms pose well the elbow joint does make a difference for how much the arm can bend they can touch the top of their heads and hold the pose. I really am a fan of the posing. They are stung a bit stiff but it works for them helps them pose. I think the thinness is kinda anime cool if you know what I mean they are different they do seem very thin but I adjusted fast to it and love the tiny sculpt details like the back and the little bump where the back neck bone is hard to explain pictures would show more. they are total love to hold!! there is Amy too which I have she can look really different depending on wig and eyes. I did have a blue fairy (sold now) she was not as good at posing as this. No volk msd comes close!

I liked them much more than I thought I would in person they are very easy to bond with and never fight you when posing!! will for instance bend the knee and hold it there ! doesn't drop down due to weight like volks msd's. Head posing is also very good! no sudden shifting like unoa. They make a great family addition to unoa! they look great together. They sit nice and straight no rocking back!

    3. Dami looks good with 16mm I found and amy with 14mm and Yumi with 12mm.

Amy might be able to wear 16mm too I can try some in her tomorrow if you like?

    4. Oh no, I am so doomed! haha

Does anyone know if the squinty eye Yumi and open eyed "Dami" head would both be able to wear 16mm eyes?

I want both heads - but I don't know if I really want to buy 14mm for one and 16mm for the other faceplate.

    5. Has anyone tried Leeke wigs on them? What size fits best 6-7 or 7-8?

    6. they fit 6-7 best they have unoa sized heads.

    7. I believe she will wear anything Unoa can wear as long as the clothing item will look ok if it is slightly loose. (Or at least that is what I have found with my ED Mini Girl.) I know someone else has mentioned that tights are difficult but those look weird when they don't fit snugly. Also the pants might run a tad bit long. This thread lists items that Unoa can wear http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119826

    8. I'll share some of my Flickr research about these dolls.

They look awesome in Anotherspace clothing.
violetpie has quite a few pictures of her Yumi in Anotherspace: http://www.flickr.com/photos/violetpie/sets/72157605422721187/
For example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/violetpie/3328797207/ is a great dress on Yumi.

I have no idea where the clothes in this set come from but I love her:
      http://www.flickr.com/photos/jusum/sets/72157612373958596/

Oh in terms of other clothing that might be worth trying that I have not tried:
Frinds2Bmade, and Ellowyne may work. Tyler may work as long as the items are not too tight.

      In cm, Tyler is:
      Bust: 17.78
      Waist 11.43
      Hips: 17.78

And the measurements listed for Elfdoll Mini's in cm are:
      Bust: 17
      hips:17.5
waist 13.5 (I think this may be measured in the wrong place though. I will try to measure my girl tonight).

    9. Clothing made for the 14 inch Kish Chrysalis dolls (Larke etc) fit Yumi, shoes too, I believe, but not totally sure about the shoes.

    10. Gloomyerina - the Elfdoll site info page on their Amy doll released in August 2008 states that her default eyes are 16mm. I haven't found any info regarding recommended eye size for the Yumis, but when comparing photos of Amy and Twiggy, the eye sockets appear to be similarly large in the open-eyed faces. My Soulkid Ahee (see her in my Avatar) can wear 12mm or 14mm, and I actually prefer the 12mm's that I currently have for her. So I'm going to wait until my Twiggy arrives before I decide what to do for additional eyes for her.

    11. I posted on the Elfdoll Q&A board and they said that 16mm fits both heads (Yumi Open & Yumi half Open).

    12. what is the difference between yumi and twiggy yumi, help? thank you.

    13. The original "yumi",I think she is called special yumi, is the one in the red and black lolita dress with the crosser eyebrows. Twiggy Yumi is the one pictured here:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=295619&highlight=twiggy+yumi

Twiggy Yumi is Real skin as apposed to the snow white skin of the original special yumi. Also twiggy has freckles and a different faceup.

Here is Special Yumi off the elfdoll website:

      http://dec66292.dreamweb.co.kr/shop/step1.php?number=719

Both twiggy yumi and special yumi come with the extra open eyed faceplate which is Dami. The open eyed faceplate that comes with the Twiggy and the special yumi are different, their skin tones and faceups match whichever doll they come with.

They have the same body and same faceplate molds.

Twiggy Yumi2 is described as wearing a pink embroiderd dress,as aposed to the green tube dress twiggy yumi one came in.

      hope this helps.:)

    14. I got the chance to see spacemachine's Dami today, she is sooo awesome - I'm super excited to get Yumi now.

Her posing is awesome and she has no problems holding poses or touching her face/head. Here is a quick shot from today:

    15. In the original set Special Yumi and Dami, Yumi's second face plate, was the open eye face plate like Dami's default face they are the same mold but different skin color and face up. Then Dami's second face plate was actually a sleeping head. Are they even making a second Dami? I have not seen her. I hope this helps.

I can't wait to see the new Yumi in peoples hands and dressed up to give me more ideas on what my Special Yumi can wear. Yay. :aheartbea

    16. I got my Special Yumi yesterday, the first version from 2008, and she is sooooo much more beautiful in person then in any photos I have seen even on Flickr. I know you guys are going to melt when you get your Yumi's. :D

I got her some clothes from http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_i...e=handmade&ga_page=&order=price_desc&includes they are just regular slim MSD clothes leggings and a hoodie but they fit perfectly!! She makes awesome stuff, and if she has something that she already sold she will usually re-make it for you. Also my Yumi has a Cheery Doll skirt also the slim MSD size, (it says UNOA etc. on there site) and that also fits perfect. She is wearing MSD size slip on sneakers from ebay black with skulls and they are big, but they look cute and stay on. As I try on more clothes I will let you guys know how they fit.

I will take photos of her if it ever stops raining, and when her eyes arrive, hopefully tomorrow. I hope I like them, I got her Green eyes, 2 sets one for each head. lol

What are you guys thinking of naming your Yumi's? I am so used to calling her Yumi that it is hard to think of calling her something else.

    17. She's here! And holy smokes, is she even cuter in person.

Her arms and knees are double jointed too! :D

    18. With the Dami, open eyed, faceplate.

You can't really see the wig with this background but it's black mohair.

    19. I received my doll yesterday - she is awesome. Unfortunately by the time I was able to take pictures last night it was dark so they are pretty crummy - but here are a few anyways:

I'm hoping to take some better indoor shots today and some outdoor shots on the weekend. :)

    20. I took a few more indoor pictures today. Still not sure of a name for her though.

I also took a comparison picture between 14mm (Grey) & 16mm (Copper) Eyes in the half open eyed head.

    21. Is everyone finding a wig that fits? I got the summermoon in 6/7 and it works great but other sites are saying she takes a 7/8. Does anyone have one that size that can say for sure how it fits?

    22. I don't have that style wig, but my Yumi wears a Leeke wig in size 6-7 which fits great, I just had to trim the bangs.

    23. I put a couple of 7-8 wigs on her and they were too big. I will try a Leeke 6-6.5 as there is one I think will look great on her.

    24. Finally I can post a picture of my girl as well :)
She is wearing a Leeke 6-6.5 and it's a perfect fit. A bigger size would be huge (at least for Leeke's sizes). Some people like their wigs to be big though, I like a snug fit.

I think the 16 mm eyes that she came with are too big for her, you can hardly see the white. I'm going to try 14 mm as I have a couple on their way.

    25. Please Please Please! If any of you receive your Twiggy with the open eyed face lip defect like I did- report it to the dealer!

I got a response from DDE today. They sent the initial photo that I submitted to Elfdoll and Elfdoll "doesn't see an issue with it!" I couldn't believe what I read. DDE offered me a refund if I wanted to send her back but I love this doll. I can't fathom that a bald spot on the lip face up is not an issue to Elfdoll. DDE tried blowing up the picture I sent to them and resubmitted it to Elfdoll but they have not gotten a response back.

If you have gotten or get this defect, PLEASE report it! I offered to send in the extra head to DDE so they coud see it themselves or at least take another picture with their own camera.

Ugh. After this mess, I won't buy from Elfdoll again.

    26. Do standard msd shoes fit her?? What is Twiggys shoe size?

      -kitten

    27. Kadepie: That's awful, they could at least offer to repaint the lips for you. that's not a big hassle at all.

Kitten: She is a slim MSD, so I think regular MSD shoes will be a bit big but it depends on the shoe. Converse and bulky boots will probably fit, but flats and MJs may look big. I have Dale Rae shoes for slim MSDs and they fit perfectly. I'm afraid I have no other shoes to try on.

    28. Yes, as above. My girl's feet are quite small and normal MSD shoes look odd on her.

    29. Welcome aboard sfbeck!

DDE emailed me yesterday to say they are already sending my defective face plate back! I just sent it to them on Saturday. I really hope their contact was able to fix her lip.

    30. As far as I know Elfdoll do not sell bodies separately. Twiggy Yumi is also in realskin which I think has been only released on limited dolls, not regular dolls yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Inspired by the beautiful Rhiannon, I thought I would post some pictures of my girl, Miki.

    31. Thank you for all the nice comments, guys :) I really hope TY2 will arrive shortly, everyone deserves the chance of getting to know this pretty girl!

I started a clothes and shoes reference guide for everyone interested. I have added what I know of, and will keep on adding as I buy stuff (which I seem to be doing a lot lately). Please contribute here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5057361&posted=1#post5057361

    32. Wow, I thought everyone would have received their Twiggy by now - all sorts of strange conditions pop up though for these dolly makers. I finally made an outfit for my Kiera and wanted to see how it looked with both of her face plates and different wigs. I read the earlier posts regarding shoes and was surprised. My problem has been finding MSD shoes large enough - My Kiera's feet measure 58mm long, whereas my other MSDs' feet measure 55mm, and the shoes I've bought for the others fit them fine, but only a couple of them work ok for Kiera.

Hope I do this right to show the "Two Faces of Kiera":

    33. Just some pics of my cutie for everyone still waiting!

    34. I got my Twiggy yesterday. The doll is wonderful! The resin is so nicely finished, no seam lines, very smooth, and she stands! No kicky knees, no flopping at the hips, she's perfect.

But...the wig, supposed to be the Twiggy Yumi 1 wig, is a Monique Jojo golden strawberry golden auburn, size 7-8 (in a size 6-7 box) and it's definately way too big.

And, worst of all, the open eye faceplate has no paint on the top lip, right in the center, a spot about 1/8" by 3/16". It looks as if it was rubbed off on the box lid, because the face is right up at the top of the foam cushion, touching the lid. I got her from The Doll Peddlar, so I'll call them tomorrow (they weren't open yesterday or today). I'm quite disappointed, as the faceup is gorgeous otherwise, and that's the facepate that I prefer.

    35. Seems I am the only one who ordered one faceplate?

Grats scotty. Sad to hear about the face-up with the second head. Hopefully Elfdoll can do something about it.
About the wig, I know the monique wigs got a sort of kind Velcro band inside the wig cap. (don't know how to explain it better) With that band you can make the wig cap a bit tighter so it fits better on smaller heads. Else a safety pin will do the job too. With this method I made a 9 inch size wig into a 7 inch version XD

    36. The Twiggy Yumi 1 wig was Jpop Kana waves in summer moon. The picture they had with version 2 looked like a longer dark brown wig with a bit of curl to it at the ends.

My Twiggy Yumi 1 arrived with that same lip defect and DDE tried to get Elfdoll to fix it or at least address the issue and they wouldn't. DDE ended up fixing it for me.

    37. So sad about the faceup problems, I wonder what is going on with Elfdoll. Scotty, I hope yours can be fixed, hopefully someone at Doll Peddlar can take care of it if Elfdoll refuses. The wig must have been provided by Doll Peddlar as an incentive, as I don't think Elfdoll included wigs with either Twiggy productions. I got my Twiggy 1 through Kathryn's Cottage and it was stated up front that no wig would be provided, so I ordered my 6-7 Kana Summermoon from JPopdolls and it fits her perfectly. I think I saw both Twiggy wigs for sale recently at the Doll Peddlar site, so maybe you'll be able to make an exchange. I purchased my Soulkid from them a few months back, and they were extremely accommodating and very nice to work with.

Kadepie, Denver Doll also removed a factory blemish from my pukipuki that I got from them recently - they took care of it in a flash and sent it back to me within 2 days. They are always so pleasant and bend over backward to be helpful. BTW, I love that photo of your Twiggy in your avatar.

Sint, did you order your Twiggy from another solar system? You deserve to receive the second faceplate as a bonus for having to wait so long lol. Please post some photos when you've got her.

    38. I called Doll Peddlar yesterday and the person I talked to was very nice. She said to return the damaged faceplate and as soon as she received it she would send me another, and she would return the damaged faceplate to Elfdoll. So, so far, so good...I sent it off yesterday. She also mentioned that the dresses have been shipped and she expects them very soon.

The wig I received (Monique Jojo golden strawberry golden auburn) is what Doll Peddlar has listed on their website as the Twiggy Yumi 1 wig. When I ordered it (it cost extra, it wasn't included) I thought it would be Jpop Kana Summermoon, but it isn't. I would love to get the Jpop Kana Summermoon wig, but I don't have Paypal, and that's the only way to order from Jpop. Anyway, I decided to keep the Monique wig, as it looks great on one of my other dolls.

sarahdipity, the dolls do come with eyelashes applied.

Thank you to everyone for your support!

    39. scotty,
I ordered the same wig. It is too large, but I put some cotton pads in the top of the wig and used a wig cap from DDE. Now it fits perfectly and looks great. I'm actually glad it's not as pink as the wig in the official pictures.

    40. I also ordered both face plates, and though I like them both, I prefer the open-eyed one. I wrote to Elfdoll requesting that they sell the body and face back separately for those of us who wanted to use both faces all the time. They politely refused... said they don't sell bodies separately and had no extras in stock. (pout:sigh)

I keep meaning to take some photos, but I've been too busy dressing/redressing, wigging/rewigging, shoeing/reshoeing! (Play, play, play)

    41. Okay, these photos aren't great quality, but here they are. First, her sultry face, blond wig and green outfit (Ellowyne Wilde):

Next, her innocent face, Monique wig, and peach outfit (also Ellowyne Wilde):

This one is a bit out of focus. It's a good full-body shot, though. (Not to mention that it shows her new shoes!)

    42. thidwick, I think the dresses came in yesterday. I bet they were waiting for that.

scotty, The eyelashes were for other dolls. But thanks for mentioning. My Elfdoll Amy doesn't have any eyelashes and I wasn't sure that the Twiggy Yumis were coming with them.

    43. kadepie,
I should mention that the sleeves on both Ellowyne dresses are so tight that I have to either remove the hands or use the fists. Some of the EW clothes might be too tight to fit around her torso, so the ones with a bit of stretch to them are needed.

    44. Wait the dresses arrived? Hmm, I haven't heard anything. :/

@sfbeck: Those dresses are adorable on her ^^

    45. really? I want my dress!I hope they have come in!:)

I am so excited to see she can wear EW clothes so beautifully!:fangirl:

Of course I dont have any EW..LOL but still!

      -Kitten

    46. Yes the dresses have arrived! My Twiggy Yumi arrived today, pink dress in box.

Here is a quick pic of her...have no idea what her name is yet but she does have some attitude! I really like everything about her!

    47. Thidwick,
Wonderful photo of your new Twiggy! Great outfit, too. Where did you get it?

My Elfdoll pink dress arrived today. I'm glad I planned on other clothes, because I think it's ugly. I haven't actually tried it on her, thought, so perhaps it looks good on.

    48. Nice! Thidwick, she is really showing some attitude.

I can't wait for mine to turn up, but she got stuck in limbo XD

    49. Thanks! The outfit is actually an Elfdoll Lovely outfit...I think I got it from DDE but I've seen it at Doll Peddlar and other online doll stores.

    50. I've used Lorentine's link for creating a database for the Elfdoll Lovely line... (Thanks, Lorentine) :http://www.denofangels.com/forums/sh...89#post4953189 ...for my Twiggy Yumi 2. I've used the same photos as in this thread, but I love my doll's storyline. Check it out and let me know what you think!

    51. sfbeck and thidwick, your girls look wonderful, and what terrific outfits, I love all of them and they give such different looks to the dollies!

I really like the skin tone, and Elfdoll really does a nice job on removing the parting lines.

This morning my Kiera received a hoodie shirt and some (what I call) "footless tights" in my nine9 style DoA GO, so she tried them on and seems to like them pretty well, they go well with her black tennies.

      [IMG][IMG]

    52. lokilady,
I love not only the clothes you've picked for Kiera, but also the wig! I need to try mohair wigs more often. For some reason I have a hard time getting them to look right. Anyway, the color works so well with the doll's complexion!

    53. She arrived today! I'm so glad I checked my delivery notification because I've never received a package at this house before. Luckily she was hiding in the back safe and sound. Unfortunately I think that my lip has that circle flaw that other people have mentioned. I will have to email about that. Once her dress comes I will take a picture of my Elfdoll crew.

    54. lokilady, Kiera looks fantastic. Where do people get those little dolly hairclips from? I really need some of those.

    55. That wig looks perfect on her! Nice to see that nine9style clothing fits, yay for more options!

I have the same problem too with mohair. I am currently trying them out on my little fees so I get more comfortable working with them.

    56. Thank you sfeck, sarahdipity and kadepie!

Mohair wigs can indeed be tricky to work with - partly due to lack of stretch in their caps. I don't care to use a silicone wig cap under these, as the volume of "hair" and bulky seems already make them sit out from the head. I haven't applied tape or anything else to the "scalps" of my dollies to help wigs stay in place, so they tend to flop off when the head is tilted, but I change the wigs quite often, so I don't mind them sitting loosely.

Using the clippies definitely helps give a more desirable shape to these wigs. I got some of them at my local monster grocery mart, and I also received some tucked in with one of the wigs I bought. They ought to be available at doll wig web sites, although I haven't found any at those I've checked, but I have seen some offered on ebay.

    57. I got a new faceplate back from Doll Peddlar, and it's perfect, so I'm happy with their service, and would order from them again. I'm not sure if I would order another Elfdoll though. It seems they may need a better method for packing the faceplates. I really like this doll though, so I better not may any statements about never buying another Elfdoll.

I'm sorry I can't show a photo of her, but I keep buying more dolls instead of a camera!

The dress isn't much. Very fortunately, we found some other clothes for her.
