Elfdoll (8-inch)

Aug 21, 2006

    1. That's weird...you should have been in the first shipment. I know I paid immediately after ordering, but not everyone does...maybe that affected the order?

Customs still has mine hostage. No BD present for me tomorrow, I guess :/ Maybe by Friday.

    2. I ordered mine the second day of pre-orders and paid straight away but it seemed to take a couple of days for them to confirm my payment...maybe thats what happened? I have to say I'll be horribly dissapointed if I don't get them both in the second shipment D:

    3. Ill be really disappointed too. I ordered the 1st day & Paid right then, I got an order confiremd within 20 minutes of ordering :...(

    4. I'm actually waiting for my other Elfdolls, and they were mailed on last Thursday. I tracked the package through the Korean postal service tracking system, and it shows that the pacakge arrived in my town on Sunday. However, USPS tracking system has not been updated since the package left Korea. I am confused by such disprepancy in two tracking systems that show me the different scans for the identical package.

According to the USPS, this package has been sitting on air cargo or still hovering in the air for 3 days now, whereas the Korean postal service indicates that it has already arrived in the US 2 days ago. I called them several times but no answers. Lately, I frequently have trouble with mailing service. Last week, UPS delivered my package to a completely different state and I just received it yesterday, 5 day delay. Then, just yesterday, I was expecting to receive a domestic package from USPS, and the tracking system says it's delivered but I have not received the package yet.

I have been waiting for all these packages so badly that I'm a bit irritated by such delays and misrouting error. Hopefully, USPS will get back to me soon with some clear answers.

Knowing how anxious I could get waiting for packages, I hope that everyone gets their orders soon! I really hope that I can get mine today or tomorrow at the latest. Or at least some shipping status updates from USPS so that I wouldn't have to worry about it getting lost.

    5. Mine have arrived! Pictures as soo as I am able, this darn work thing is getting in the way.

    6. I can't wait to see!

    7. Tanya from my Yahoo group got hers too
...but she cant post as she cant get her password recognised her

I cant wait to see them

    8. oh congrats! they both look SO wonderful, I can't wait to get mine!

    9. Mine arrived at 7:40am! Perfection. Here's my report. I have Devil and will be calling her Veruka. Gosh she is a bit of a pickle, too, all sour and gnarly! Love her.
She is already ruling the roost!
Don't like the wig at all. It sticks out at the side. She can wear all the 24mm shoes as her feet are just 21mm. Tiny.
She poses incredible well. Better than any other tiny I have. I've changed her left hand to a fist. Took a bit of doing to get the other hand off and I thought the ball joint had chipped - before I'd touched it, but the other one is exactly the same and there appears to be slots in the hands that you would think these would fit into, but so far they don't seem to lock together. Her resin is darker than any other BJD I have, but I love the colour. It's a warmer shade, but much lighter than the Kish dolls.
Her face ups are perfect and they suggest you change the faces using the ears. That's fine, but you can't change wigs without using her chin. I just hope the face ups will stand up to it. They are well coated, though.
Her head holds so many different poses! Amazing.
Her body has no seam lines, is very smooth and the hands! Well, I am delighted with her hands. It's a thing with me. I think they could have shown close ups of these. Both the open and the fist hands are detailed and the open hand is very delicate.
The face plate is held on with just one magnet and quick as click, click you can change it, but you have to take off the wig and put it back on, so not that quick in reality - still, having said that - tt's a brilliant design and I can see why it took so long to master. For me it's perfection.
I will have to get some comparison shots, but she seems about 1/4 inch taller than Tulah who is taller than Riley. She is thinner than both of them.

    10. Oh Valli I'm so GLAD your little Veruka is finally home...so tell me then, did you not get a shipping notice? I didn't hear that you had x3 but I deffinetely look forward to pictures of the little monster! x3

    11. How Cute!
She does not look very happy in her dress!
Hard to climb trees & Play in the mud in adress! LOL

    12. Oh Valli maybe there is hope for me yet then! *crosses fingers that Tea will turn up out of the blue*

Elibeth looks so WONDERFUL with Veruka <3 I can't wait to see more pictures of them!

    13. She was a right cross patch about that dress. I think I'm going to have to give her lots of chocolate to wear a dress to London. She's going to a 5 star hotel for afternoon tea on the 15th October! Elibeth has agreed to take her and keep her under control. I'd like to see that happen. I reckon she's fooling Elibeth. The real Veruka came out when she threatened to get Trudi when she's sleeping! Scary girl, but I love her.

Ann, I hope your boy turns up soon.

    14. Aha, it looks like you're going to have so much fun with Veruka! I hope she has fun when she goes out for tea x3

SPeaking of, x3 I have my fingers crossed! My little ones need to turn up soon! I'm getting grumpy xD

    15. My Hana was waiting for me when I got home today....I'm thinking with that face, though, she needs to be a redhead <G>

Popped her into Only Hearts Club clothing...a tight fit, and will be long in the leg (Hana has a long torso) but look fine. The shoes are a teeny bit large but you don't notice, and they balance her feet out well. She still hasn't told me her name.

I'll try to get a pic of her and Pidgeon together this weekend, when I'm actually home when it's light out. Imagine that?

    16. nope D: no sign that there are any itty bitties coming for me ;o;
They must still be on holiday in Korea D: I hope they come home soon

    17. They're just too cute!!

When you get your babies, would any of you be able to post comparison shots of them and your SD dolls? I'd love to see the height difference in full! Thank you! :aheartbea

    18. Finally had time to play with my new dolls. The girl arrived fine, but the devil, well, his hand arrived broken and when I tried to put one of the spare hands on, I pulled the arm off. Guess I am in for a lesson on how to string a doll. I tried to change his faceplate, and the magnet came out. Now I have to superglue that back in. I am not having any luck at all!
One good thing is the dolls fit Tiny Betsy shoes and Only Hearts Club clothes perfectly. Riley things are too big, (didn't realize Riley was such a chubs), and size 4 Riley wigs also fit. Unfortunatley, these BJD's look so real in the Riley kids dollhouse that I think they are going to take it over!

Got him all fixed up--wasn't that hard. The little hand just hooks in and the magnet just set back into place. He is a cutie!

    19. Well, Elfdoll just told me that my doll is "in transit", and will be shipped 15-20 days from the email they've sent me. I kinda suspect that they copied the body of the payment confirmation and only changed the title, because it's the same text they sent me after I confirmed payment. He might arrive before I have to leave town.... considering that I apparently don't get EMS where I'm located at (according to Elysium, who refused to send me my Elysium head [via EMS] because EMS doesn't come where I'm at), he'll be sent registered mail, which can take up to three weeks.

I have to admit, I was kinda hoping that I was one of those who didn't get notified when their doll was shipped out, like Valli. *cough*

And, for future reference to those who have to ask Elfdoll any questions on their Q&A, they rarely reply past the first question in a thread. If you respond to a question inside your own thread, they tend to pass you over when they do their daily replies.

    20. I got the same email today...in transit...will receive in 15-20 days...
but I received Hana several days ago. So I don't think the email means much.

    21. >< Oy vey.

    22. I didn't get a shipping notice today D: I'm just hoping they forgot *sighs* I want my dollies ;o;

    23. Wow, Shes Here! No Name yet

My Order Still does not say Shipped.
      What a Fun Surprise!
I love how easy her face plates Change!
I Hadnt thought about it...But 3 of the faces Come with Eyes. How nice- As that would sure slow done changing her face.

      Here is my Gallery Post:

    24. Congrats! Hoping my tinies come this week D:

    25. Mine arrived today. He's a bit kicky, but his legs are very poseable. He has trouble sitting without rolling backward, and his left hand arrived stripped on the inside and fell off as I was dressing him. Having a horrible time changing it out for the included fist hand, maybe someone can give me some pointers.

I can't seem to get his wig to actually go onto his head all the way yet, either. His outfit is nicely made. I think his wings are plastic, and it's held on by a pin type backing. He's got a really nice weight to him. There's a baffling joint right at his upper thigh that doesn't seem to do anything, as there's no ball and socket (Ah hah, it just swivels, gotcha). His elastic is very thick compared to Elfdoll Tiny elastic, it almost looks like the same elastic that holds together the Rainy dolls. His tail is sewn onto his pants, and it's wired to be poseable.

His ^_^ face looks like Gilbert Gottfried.

Also, it seems that Elysium Doll fibbed at me. EMS does come to my location.

    26. My Devil's hand arrived the same way. I took a picture of the damaged hand and mailed it to Elfdoll, I am waiting for a replacement. To change the hand, use a crochet hook to pull the elastic while you hook on the new hand. It takes a little coordination--that elastic is strong! Aren't they the cutest little things?
      Deborah

    27. I actually just now got the hand on. *laugh* I did almost the exact same thing, but I couldn't find my crochet hooks, so I used an unbent paperclip instead. I put him between my knees and pulled, and threaded the ball on, and then pulled again, and then threaded the hand through. Now he can play 'rock' and 'paper' in a game of "rock paper scissors".

Also, the wig is beginning to fit a little now, but it still takes many attempts to get it to stay. I think it needs to stretch a little bit.

Maybe I should email Elfdoll, as well. I think that I can just glue the screw back into the open hand, but maybe I shouldn't have to do that.

Oo I was posing him a bit and his wig popped off and flew about a foot away, got some good air, too. That was startling and funny at the same time.

    28. Oh I'm so glad you finally got him! shame about the hand though! D:

I can't wait to see pictures!

;o; I can't wait for mine to arrive

    29. I am sorry to hear that others are having difficulties. Little Veruka is a delight and I've had no problems. I don't like the wig particularly as it sticks out at the sides, but now that I'm using clips to hold it down it's much better. I'm actually using her in my story. She's quite inspiring! I see so much more in her faces as I study them and put her with other dolls. She is so expressive.
I love the weight of her, too. She's just perfect.:love

    30. AnnTagonist.
I sure hope yours arrives too!

    31. I cant get my Hanas Wig on Either. I gave up since I had my Own fur wigs here.
(I never was able to get Cumis Wig on Either)

Changing the faces sure is a dream.
I do want to pack her box away. I need to decide how to store her faces- so they are easy to get to & change.
How do others plan on storing their faces?

    32. Hmm, I haven't even thought about the storing of her faces... A guess a little rectangular candy box or something, stuffed with cotton batting or polyfill. Ferrero Rocher boxes, clear plastic box with rounded corners, come to mind. I always have a couple kicking around... ^__^;;; I use them for holding anything from tiny clothes to beads, to spare change...

    33. Sorry for replying again. I just wanted to share a few comments regarding the Hana doll, as a whole.

      Resin:
The resin quality is nice, and up to Elfdoll standard. He's less shiney than my Elfdoll Special Red, who can sometimes look like he's oiled up for a muscle shoot (not something I mind, really. *cough*), or even my Sooah, who has a nice polish to her that I find really attractive (she's my favorite doll). He is not matte, but he's as close to matte as I've seen on Elfdoll.

      Heft:
Surprisingly weighty, for such a small doll. It's pleasent, but most of the weight is in his torso, which is not jointed. I imagine his torso can take a lot of abuse, it's quite dense. The biggest problem with that, lies in his extremities. His legs are short and slim in relatation to the torso, which means that when you sit him down with his legs straight in front of him, he will have a strong tendancy to flop onto his back, like a little turtle.

In fact, I've taken to calling my boy that, as a nick name, "Turtle".

      Joints:
His legs are very nicely jointed, and capable of many perplexing poses as a result. Hana can crab walk at a moment's notice.

His arms are less well jointed, and his wrists aren't particularly useful as a result. He can rotate his wrists easily, and flex the joint to a minor degree, but the degree is very minor. I suspect I will have to wire his arms, not because he's got poor arm joints really, but because I wired my Min Del Re, and I am accustomed to my tinies holding awesome poses with their arms without real effort.

His neck is typical of an Elfdoll neck, he can't look up very well, but he can rotate easily, look down very well, and tilt -- for a sassy, "wot j00 lookin at, huh?" effect.

      Faceup:
All the faces are consistant with the same doll, with different expressions. This is very nice, as I did wonder how consistant they'd be. I imagined it'd be hard to find a customizer willing to faceup four faces to look like the same doll, with a different expression, due to imagined difficulty. End result? I'm being very precious with his faces.

      Face plates:
The mechanism works very well. If you're prone to touching your dolls at the chin, the face plates will probably pop off, but not fall off, as the wig holds it in place a bit. All but one of my faceplates sit nicely against the head, and that particular one is only off by a tiny bit, so it's not noticeable with a wig on at all.

      Clothing and Accessories:
The shirt and pants my guy came with were nicely made. In fact, they had the effect of making my doll look better, by better defining where his, uhm, butt starts and stops, and where his torso starts and stops.

The horns were cute, and I kinda think they are made of resin. The wings seem like plastic, to me, they have some bendiness to them. They fasten by pin style backing. Mine has glue strings and a couple globs where the pin was glued in, like they used hot glue. I don't see any signs of the pin falling off, however.

I have not removed the shoes from their packaging. They seem to be made of tiny strips of pleather with an ostritch finish, and they're basically sandles.

He came with optional fist hands, which have a little hole between the thumb and the palm, like he's loosely clenching his fist.

The wig my guy came with is too small, it seems. I mentioned it earlier, but at one point, it popped off of its own accord and shot away from his head like a rubber band. *_* I laughed. It seems to be secured via a tiny strip of rubber or silicone at the back, and some grippy stuff in the front. However, my little strip is bent in half, so it only grips when I stick my finger underneth and make sure it lies flat. It still pops off at will, but it will stay better if I do that.

      Sculpt
His faces are nicely sculpted, and you can see little furrows on his brow when he makes a pinchy face, and whatnot. Ears are cute. Hands are nicely made. Feet are small and not quite as detailed.

The torso has some definition, unlike stock photos imply. He's got a little belly, a little line in it to imply abs and a tiny belly button, and pectorals and nipples as well. There is also a bump to imply ribs. It's by no means the definition of an SD sized doll, but it's there... it's not smooth all the way around the bend, like their photos imply. ;) He's also got a reasonable clavical area.

I really wish he'd made the legs just a tiny bit thicker and his torso a little shorter, or legs a little longer. It does seem a bit disportionate in real life. I sincerely believe that body blushing will amend a lot of those aesthetic issues.

      Stringing:
My boy came perfectly strung, that in itself was kind of like winning the lottery for me. He kicks just a tiny bit, but not as much as my Min Del Re did. He stands without help, and can stay that way for a long, long time.

      Size:
As suspected, he seems kinda big compared to my Tiny, but then... she is a Tiny.... *laugh* I think both sizes have distinct advantages, depending on what you're shooting for. He's large enough to give greater detail to the mould, and small enough to tote everywhere. I like his size.

I'm long winded. :/ *laugh* Makes me want to apologize again.

    34. Oh! Don't be appologizing Eidolon Tree! It's a very good and detailed review, and very much appreciated. ^__^ Thank you!

Now all we need is some more lovely pictures... heeheehee!

    35. still no sign of my itty bitties, perhaps tomorrow or friday? I need something to cheer me up D: I'm so sick

Also, thanks for the review eidolon! i'm going to pick up some wire in advance aha

    36. That was a great review, so detailed and precise!

    37. Eh heh, thanks. I hit 'enter', saw the length, and went ">< What have I done?" I tried to write what I'd have liked to know about any doll before I bought them. Hopefully someone finds it useful in the future.

    38. still no tinies for me D: D:

    39. I am Betting Yours Will arrive on Saturday!

      Mine showed up on Saturday.

    43. I know ;o; it's driving me nuts! Have you got your orientdoll yet Carrie? I'd deffinetely like a wig for crumpet x3

*sigh* they should have shipped out on the 30th of september, well before the holiday D: I hope they turn up soon, this is terrible...

    44. Got him -Haku ...gorgeous ...and making wigs LOL
still wish I could have one of these though

      lol
I so like the Angel ...and the size

    45. fab x3 I'll pm you about the wigs now aha

And gaah I love both of them! Can't wait to get my hands on them and start sewing cute little bits and pieces for them <3

    46. oO I think my doll doesn't like me.

He keeps throwing things at me, wigs, horns, faces, and just now, he threw his entire left leg at me. His foot fell off the screw, his elastic shot inside his body taking the screw with it, and his leg just... fell off. All I was doing was straightening it out so he could stand, and I was not rough with him.

... I hate to say this, but I think that Elfdoll has a few issues with this release. It's either that, or I'm extremely unlucky.

    47. Eidolon Tree,

I remember reading about the similiar issue(trouble with standing) with Hana at the Korean Elfdoll club. Rainman asked the buyer to send her Hana back to him and he fixed it for her. She left the follow-up message stating that her Hana can stand up and easily pose after all.

If it's too much trouble to send it back overseas, you should be able to get some tips about how to fix it by posting a message regarding such problem on Elfdoll site. Good luck!

    48. My Hana never had trouble posing, he was not kicky or tightly strung. He just... fell apart.

I thought before, that I might have trouble "bonding" with this doll, and now that he's literally fallen apart in my hands twice, it's simply become not fun owning him. I'll probably get over it.

Right now, he's under a cloth, on my desk, and I'm just waiting for Elfdoll to reply to my messages.

    49. I'm so sorry that your Hana is having such trouble. I thought that it simply had a problem standing up. If this cannot be fixed at home, I think Elfdoll will fix your Hana for you. It is a pain to ship it back and wait for few weeks to get it back and all that, though.

I'm also waiting for my Hana devil and angel, and I hope that they would come with perfect joints. My tiny dolls' joints are kicky, so it's little difficult for me to pose them as I want. But I've been pretty satisfied since they are so tiny.

I hope that Elfdoll will fix your problem soon! In fact, I posted a question for myself at Elfdoll, and I've been waiting for a few days to be answered. Since it is the biggest & longest holiday in Korea, I am expecting to be answered some time next week.

    50. [IMG]

He has no left leg. His "open hand", left hand is broken.

*add: I honestly think if it were just one or the other, I could suck up and deal, but for my doll to just start unraveling as he is? .... I don't think that I have that kind of persnickety perseverence in me. I'll try, to be sure, but my frustration is understandable, isn't it?

    51. Oh, No!
Im sorry that has happened. I hope you hear from them very soon. Let us know what they say.

    52. Oh ;o; I hope you get him fixed soon! I'm sure elfdoll will provide help!

    53. The larger Elfdoll girls seem to have that happen every once in a while (screws coming out and shooting up the leg with the elastic) so it may be a design issue. The normal fix for them is to use forceps to fish it out and replace the screw into the foot with some strong superglue. It's never happened to Moira, so I'm not sure how long-term that is.

Will Elfdoll be sending you new hands/feet? OrientDoll ended up sending me replacement parts three times for Tae before he was okay, but they were really good about it and shipped right away. I can hear ya on the "bonding" thing, though...he and I never bonded as well because of my frustration with him that first month.

I'm so sorry you're having such difficulties...I know how much you were looking forward to these dolls :/

    54. *sigh* still no tinies, I'm hoping today at least ;o;

    55. I'm starting to think they haven't been shipped D:

    56. I haven't received mine yet either

    57. Did you get a shipping notice? I didn't D: and I'm starting to think they just didn't ship

    58. Mine actually never updated from "in transit", my EF account still says it's being shipped. Sooo, you never know, I guess.

*edit: AnnTagonist, Elfdoll has replied to your shipping question with a tracking number.
