Elfdoll 14cm TinyDoll discussion Part 4

Sep 26, 2011

    1. Had a feeling you'd come through! I really regret selling my bong sun hwa all those years ago! The sisters really had something special!

    2. @clochette BRILLIANT Christmas tree sitter! THANK YOU for posting that photo!

    3. Thank you! My tinys have spent many a year doing ornament duty, they're the perfect size.

    4. She's so perfect! I love her little dimply face :)

    5. @spacemachine, I can add to this --

Monaeme sisters, aka the Nightengale Sisters, cousins to my Sparrows. They're the upgraded later edition.

    6. What a perfect trio! Love their matching dresses and slippers hehe

    7. @spacemachine, thank you! The slippers came with all the Monaeme sisters (that I know of), and they've become my Monaeme sisters' trademark. I refer to them as "hamster" slippers

Here's another pic, of my Wendy, in the world's smallest thong, made by Spampy years ago --

    8. I love Wendy's sweet face! Did they make a sleeping face for her too? Or was it only Olivia and Dodo?

    9. My Wendy fullset didn't come with a sleeping face, so I don't think they made one. I think the sleep Dodo was the reissue they did...I got mine second hand, she was the first issue and just had an open-eyed face. My only sleep face was Olivia, but Pam opened her eyes for me, so she's awake now. Dodo on the far left, Olivia next, then Adele, and PP Pipi

    10. @clochette, Dodo looks like a teeny Ryung! I never noticed that before :)

    11. I love your dodo! And the open eyed Olivia! Might have to put out a marketplace ISO for a long shot for dodo and her faceplate. Thank you for the comparison pic!

    12. Does anyone know which sculpts they had sleeping heads for? Was it just Dodo and Olivia or did they do Hiro as well? I know some releases has bonus heads, and I do remember Winky and Wendy (missed a pair on eBay last month!)

    13. I'm pretty sure it was just Olivia, I don't remember Dodo having a sleeping head, but I wouldn't be surprised. That was an adorable doll! Wish Rainman would re-release them :( All of them :(

    14. Hiro does have a sleeping head.

    15. I saw someone with a sleeping dodo head once upon a time, I think one of the earlier releases came with one so I swear this does exist but were probably limited I doubt we will ever see them rereleased again but I can dream! It's so hard to find 1/12 dolls who are mature but also not super realistic? I love them

    16. That's good to know! I feel like trying to find info on the old Elfdoll tinies (or old tinies from the early 2000s) feels like diving through historical archives

    17. so true, I adore these dolls so much! Except for Tinybear's dolls which were similar size, I don't recall ever seeing "adult tinies" But I haven't been paying attention for a long time :)

    18. Me neither! I know Metisdoll released some but their proportions are more realistic I believe? Dream high studio also has some more mature 14cm tinies but usually fairies or more fantasy-like creatures. There's something so charming about the Elfdoll proportions haha!

    19. Banji was close, though she was a little taller and not as mature, but she also fit with 1/12 scale dollhouse furniture. She's second from the left in this picture. I believe she's still available from Dollmore.

    20. Oh yes! I had one back in the day and I was thinking about them again recently! The proportions are definitely a bit different but I like that Dollmore sells the heads separately too!

    21. I agree, but you've just updated me, and I need to go see these :D :D :D Thanks :D

    22. Yes, I love my Banji's All my poor tinies have ratty hair now and I need to get new wigs :( Any hints on where to find good wigs now a days?

    23. It's hard now! Rubyredgalleria makes some great ones though migjt still be too big for Banji. For my tinies I make their wigs myself. Tashkabears on Etsy also does a lot for Realpuki which might be similar sized?

    24. The wig my Elizabeth is wearing was made by Tinybear back in the day...Dollmore actually sells Banji wigs, she wears a 3" wig, similar to the Elfdolls. Facets also sells size 3 wigs: Size 3

    25. Thanks @clochette I miss tinybear's wigs, they were the best and unfortunately, those are the ones I had and have gotten (I'm embarassed) mites I guess? Because they were all in a makeup case where I kept my tinies, and I left them for a few years, and didn't realize something got to them :( This is why i need to replace so many wigs. Yah, I think the closest is Banji wigs, I'll go see what they have!

    26. I've got Elfdolls Dodo and Kai. I was wondering if anyone could help me with restringing Dodo as her elastic has become very loose?

Because of arthritis in my hands, I'm not good at managing such tiny elastic. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful.

Here are Dodo and Kai in their new Maileg Gingerbread House this Christmas.

    27. Restringing tinies is definitely a challenge in hand coordination! I recently did it for my dream high studio Haru, about the same size, using some jewelry elastic, wire, tweezers, and a lot of cursing haha! Whereabouts are you located?

      • x 1
    28. They were so good! I miss them too. Kemper also had some 2-3 inch wigs, I remember my bong has their Heidi braids wig. Sadly also out of business. I see some Amelia thimble wigs from time to time and they're the same head size apparently? I make my own out of mohair pelts or use glue and mohair locks, but I'm certainly no expert so they sometimes come out wonky

    29. I live in the UK, which is a bit tricky. I have got some of the tools, but I'm afraid I'd lose one of the tiny parts. But then I could probably get things like a big magnifying glass from Hobbycraft <ggg>

What is jewelry elastic? I do restring my SD-size dolls, and I even get my husband to help me. I'm not very good at getting the elastic tension right.

    30. It's clear elastic thread for making jewelry. This is my first time using it and I got it in a hobby store. It's new to me so I don't know how well it'll last or if it'll stretch or break so I'm hesitant to recommend it until I've had this restrung doll a bit longer. The elastic that is coated all seemed too thick for these tiny dolls especially when trying to connect the S hooks on hands and feet!

    31. I have soma 1mm beading eastic that someone recomended on one og the tines thread. I haven't tried it yet.

When working with small parts and setting eyes I like to work in a large box lid or tray that can catch small dropped items.

      • x 1
    32. i think this is the same stuff I'm using but mine is .5 mm? I had a terrifying moment where an S hook flew out of my hand and like ten feet away but thank goodness I found it. It almost makes me want to restring tinies in some sealed chamber that I can stick my hands in haha

    33. @spacemachine @nancy_schroeder_ca thank you, I'll definitely check my local hobbies store and see if they sell that. It's the bit where the tiny parts fly across the room that worries me! I will try using something like a box lid or tray as a workspace.

    34. Mine are standard elastic cord. I got two brands from Amazon. This is one:

FANDAMEI 1mm Elastic String for Bracelets, Elastic Beading Cord Stretchy for Bracelets Making, Stretch Bead Cord for Jewelry Making, Sturdy Thread for Bracelet Necklace Crafts Christmas DIY String

    35. adorable picture! As a fellow arthritis sufferer, my suggestion is get the kids?? If you got 'em?
That may be what I need to do. I haven't crafted in a looooong time!

Yah, for tiny parts, etc... take precautions, like use a towel under where you are working, a big one, maybe even one under your chair to catch parts and keep them from bouncing?? I just thought of that, and thought I'd mention it :D

I agree with Nancy, I have done this myself a long time ago, and the 1mm elastic is the right stuff :)

      • x 1
    36. Thank you, @IngieBee :) - no kids, I'm afraid, and only one nephew locally.

The idea of putting a towel under the chair is an excellent one - things can disappear into the carpet in my study never to be seen again! :)

When I get back from vacation, I'm going to see if I can get some of the 1mm elastic and have a go, following all your advice. I've got a good daylight lamp. My problem is really with dexterity, but if I work slowly...

Thank you very much for the link! I'm in the UK so will check on our local Amazon first to see if they stock it. They often do.

    37. I've seen the 1mm elastic at JoAnn if you have them, probably hobby lobby and Michael's as well. Good luck with that @glass_mountain !!

    38. Does anyone know what size eyes work for the monnaemi sisters? I may be expecting some new arrivals soon

    39. I think the nearest we've got is Hobbycraft and there's a branch in town. :)

    40. Oh wow, your sister dolls are amazing!! I was lucky enough to find Bong on EBay a couple years ago, and have been searching for her sisters ever since! There are a couple of Adel’s and one Sylph on EBay right now if anyone is interested. I am desperately seeking Min and Jin Dal Re if anyone knows of anyone who is looking to rehome. (Or if the tinies are getting too small for anyone, I have a Kaye Wiggs 13/14” girl I’d trade).
This isn’t a “for sale” post, I just thought maybe someone here might have heard anyone mentioning their girls.
I’m loving going through all your older posts and looking at the wonderful pictures! I’m going to try and include a picture of my Bong Sun, but it’s been a LONG time since I’ve posted here so I’m not sure if I remember how lol![IMG] [https://flic.kr/p/EZm7dh]

    41. Well dang, it didn’t work!

    42. Ok going to try this again!

    43. Hi @roni207 -- sorry your pics aren't showing up. I only use a desktop PC when I'm on DoA and Flickr, so if you're using a PC, here's my method of posting:

I open the page of the pic I want to post.

I click on the downward pointing arrow to the lower right of the image, which brings up a sizing menu.

I click on "View all sizes", which opens a page with the photo and lists of sizes, and click on "Medium 800", which shows you the resized image.

I right-click on the resized photo, which brings up a little box with choices, and I click on "copy image".

I paste this into my post message, and after double-checking the Preview, I post.

This may seem like more steps, but it's worked for me (so far) just as well as the BB code method.

    44. I received a beautiful Elfdoll Hiro recently! I am so excited, she has been a favorite of mine for a while. I need to get her some new clothes, but this seems to fit her well while we wait! :D

    45. Hiro was originally sold ad a boy but makes a cute girl also!

    46. I found out about tiny elfdoll very recently and this forum is such a gem to learn about older dolls, so happy I found this thread !
I hope to get one too if I can find an opportunity (you never know ahah), having a pukipuki already, I feel like the two could really match well together ^^

    47. Here is a side-by-side with the two types, hopefully this is helpful.

    48. @clochette thank you so much ! your picture is very helpful, I think it confirms for me they can work pretty well together (my main criteria for dolls to match together is similar head size, since the body can still be changed and they seem close so that's great news !) I planned on finding an elfdoll to make a boy character since some elfdolls seem to match this vibe better (I don't know why, pukipuki look too "girly" for me with the main head sculpts available :sweat ) so I'll search better, hopefully to find one in 2026 (love the dress you gave them by the way !)
