Ebay seller, Releaserain

Jan 5, 2007

    1. i've been warning a few different people regarding this seller. That their stuff isn't the real deal. That they are getting the seller's own version of the outfit. I wrote to them, to talk about the situation. Here is the response i got.

"First, we have to clarify that we are not selling fake items which we have clearly pointed out all the item descriptions clearly on the listing. Our design may be similar to the outfit from others, but we are not copying other outfits under the brand from others. Moreover, we have listed all the items elements on the item description page. According to the law, I am not selling fake items since we are not marking other brand’s name on the listing and selling you other thing, and we have clearly described all the elements of the product included. It’s unreasonable to claim that we are selling fake items. If some buyers purchased other brand outfit which is similar to our products, and say our items are fake, it’s extremely unfair to us. "

The logic of this individual amazes me. They actually beleive that what they are doing is not only LEGAL, but that they are NOT ripping off the original creator!!!

    2. Copying the design of clothes isn't unheard of, especially in the fashion world. I imagine that designers like Gucci would forever be in court if they were able to sue for copying one of their designs.
I don't see how doll fashions are different from real life, yes, it's sucky, but you can't go to jail for copying someone's design so long as you are not claiming that the copy is an original.

    3. I just went to see her eBay store and it seems like she's using her own pictures now? I'm not sure, but the few outfits I saw didn't look professionally taken, like the ones she was stealing previously O_o;;

    4. i just recieved two wigs i commissioned from her. i have no complaints. i put the order in three weeks ago and just recieved them today. and both are exactly as i specified. paid 30$ for each. 30$ for a wig that's exactly as i want it and couldnt be found elsewhere is hard to argue with for me.

    5. I bought boots from her, and I've looked at her auctions for wigs and the like. I notice she says that the style will be SIMILAR to the photo shown but may not match precisely as things are handmade.

I would rather make my own clothes or get them from trustworthy friends, but...meh, I'm happy with the shoes I got from her, so.

    6. kind of OT but I bought a pair of eyes and they were shipped late last week and I got them today..super fast ship I'd say..

    7. ..i almost bought something but im so glad i didnt after seeing this..:( i thought they had many good items..

    8. That's really crappy about the clothes and wigs. :( Releaserain is my favorite source for glass eyes and I've bought 3 pairs from him/her without incident.

    9. I buy items and i am very happy with this seller >__<

    10. I too have purchased from this dealer and I have left positive feedback.
I guess it is all relative to what one's expectations are. I was happy with the workmanship of the items and the items. I was happy with the fast delivery.
There was a misunderstanding on my order and she corrected it immediately and very easily without any hassles. I do not buy name brands for myself so I really don't care about it for my dolls. I find the market place always copies successful fashions for the masses and sells them at dreadful places like Wal-mart or Target. So as long as my dolls look nice, I am happy. They may be wearing clothes made in sweatshops by little children but that would be a whole other issue. LOL!!!!!

    11. the wig listings say that NOW...it wasnt always like that till I chewed her out. Wigs are the only thing I bought from her a while back, but she was incredibly rude and unpleasant in every pm

    12. *mildly* I'm glad you convinced her to make the disclaimer, then.

    13. Wow, who new. This is my first BJD so I'm kind of new to all of this. But thanks for the warning!! Thats why I love DoA it keeps you posted on all fronts. Again,Thanks for the warning!!

    14. I'm a bit confused about this. It seems to me all her outfits are modelled by her own dolls using different wigs. I don't see any stolen photos from manufacturers sites.

Or is it because she has cleaned up her act since this thread was started?

    15. she's cleaned up her act since the thread was started, apparently.

    16. Oh wow. I didn't know they had problems! I bought a few pairs of Volks Eyes from them, and they came brand new and all went well. :|

    17. I've bought several detailed clothing items from this seller and have not had any reason to complain. It was quality workmanship and bore the labels as stated in the ebay ads.

I would think if there was copying goin on she/he has learned a lesson, or perhaps it's a matter of which items are being bought.

    18. I bought a pair of sneakers from them, that fell apart and they promptly refunded my money without question and didn't even ask for the sneakers back.

    19. Whoa...I feel so...confused. I am a loyal buyer from Releaserain...but now I'm so unsure about everything I've bought!!!! Geez...I feel so...used.
Sure, they ship fast and the quality (of what I've bought) is good...but if they are copying off of any brand it's way wrong. I mean...yikes. I wish I had better words to say >.< I'm glad I found this thread tho.

    20. I love releaserain - they've always given me good products and service.

I don't intend on denying them my business.

    21. O_o I just bought a wig from them but ended up returning it because it didn't fit.

In all honesty I messaged them about the wig I bought from them to ask what company it was from before I ordered it- and they replied saying it was a luts wig.

So I don't think they are claiming them as their own... just not mentioning it =\

    22. KGdaKat : I agree with you. I have brought "fake" clothing for myself before.

    23. We have used them for various items and they have shipped fast and the quality was great- admittedly we were not buying and one off outfits or anything. If they are changed enough then they are not a copy- I am afraid most of the links don't work anymore so I can't comment on how close the 'copy' was.

Maybe we should ask ourselves why we are happy that our own clothes are copies from the catwalk and famous designers, becaue that is what fashion is- especially fast fashion in stores.

    24. I bought shoes from them and I have no complaints. *hides*

    25. I've purchased an overalls and shirt set from this seller and I find the overalls and shirt to be a very nice quality. I am satisfied with the transaction.

    26. Hmm.. I've placed order after order to this seller and actually highly reccomend them to all my friends. The goods arive fast and are top notch! I don't see them claiming the products to be made by them, nore do they mention a brand name (like Luts or whatever) So chances are they are knock offs, but for the price you know what they say.. "if somethings too good to be true..." As well as its from China Soooo.. *Shrugs* They offer quality products at reasonable prices Unfortunately things like this happen wether we like it or support it or not. As for me, I know its knock offs, but it looks good and its affordable and lets me spoil my resin brats rotten as well as i've not had an issue with the seller ever, they even discounted my shipping once when I ordered a LOT from them ^_^; Which was nice of them.

      But yeah,. just my 2c.

    27. I was kind of surprised to see an ebay seller I frequently buy from up in this section. I've ordered several pairs of shoes and wigs from Releaserain. Always got them super fast and have been pleased with the actual items. My favorite wig came from these guys! Just wanted to add my positive experience with them up here, just so people aren't scared away from them.

Personally, (don't hit me for this!) I don't see anything wrong with knockoffs. So long as they are not saying they are by the original company. I mean look at the market place here, there are always people asking for knock offs of things they couldn't find or afford otherwise.

    28. They used to show pictures from the companies they were copying/inspired by/whatever. So even if they didn't claim they were selling Luts wigs, the implication was there with the use of Luts's photos.

    29. I buy jewellery from them all the time. I've never seen it anywhere else, but I have blinked at some of their clothing. They ship fast, package well though and that's a hell of a lot more than I can say from most ebay shops and half the companies I've bought from.

Also, if they meet the requirements for enough alterations for it to no longer legally be a copy, and the original item is no longer available? I, personally, don't have a problem with it. If you do, don't buy from them

    30. Dennis/bobobie for those who don't know <.<;; whoops. :doh

    31. Actually, Jessicahu from eBay stole the idea from Dream of Doll, who was the first to make those for dolls (in black, then later in pink).
Dream of Doll stole the idea from either TredAir or TUK human size shoes that were sold at Hot Topic (somewhere in the DoA archives there is a discussion about this).
I had a pair of black ones when I was in middle school; don't know what happend to them.

    32. They are alike & both cute - but I bet I know which cost more! I am all for knock-offs. Sometimes I like an outfit or shoes enough to pay alot for it.......but mostly I'd rather buy a knock off & save myself some money. That goes for both me & my dolls.

    33. Jeeze, I just bought a pair of glass eyes from them! I'm assuming they were limited editions (black sclera and gray iris)-- they listed Luts in the product description, but when I looked on the Luts site, I couldn't find any sign of them there. D: I'd just assumed that releaserain were resellers or something.

    34. I need to be honest. I bought from them tennis and I bought a new pair today. I don't think I would stop buying from them because of this because although they make a mistake they have a cute variety of shoes in good prices and good quality. I don't really had never bought a pair of shoes of more than $50 for myself why should I bought one for my doll when I can buy a cheaper one with the same style? It's just my opinion. Don't throw me rocks:sweat

    35. Exactly so. Most mass-market/discount/department store clothing is knock-offs . Personally, I've had nothing but good experiences with this seller, and haven't seen anything I've bought anywhere else. The "fraudulent" in the header of this topic, without even the grace of a question mark after it, is starting to annoy me --

    36. I notice that the cat shoes are running around all ebay and about clothes, It's not illegal make a replica of clothes if the pattern is not under copyright. Now... if LUTS have copyrigt of the design then it is ilegal. I also think that fraud is a huge word to be said lightly. This is the last thing I would say about it, ok?;)

    37. Actually, $11.95 or so cents for the ebay ones with over $4 shipping, don't know on bobobie's shipping, but they're only $12, and with bidding on them, the ebay ones can get higher...

    38. Yeah, but this person uses names like Luts/DOD on her opening for them, she doesn't claim it's from them, but until recently used official photos and her title names say things like Luts DOT maryjane shoes or whatnot, it is rather misleading at times.
I personally would rather buy used, or higher quality than knockoffs. But I am also poor, so I'd rather make my own unique designs. (when I can sew better)

Still, look at the quality on the sites, stitching wise compared to the ebay seller. All the others look nicer in general, less rough.

    39. I feel the same way.

Many ebay sellers of items for bjds put Volks, Super Dollfie, Luts, DOD and other names in their titles, meaning that the item is for dolls from these companies, not that the item is made by them.

This particular seller has stopped using company photos, which they seem to have realised was a mistake. I think they deserve to be forgiven, and I think the title of this thread should be amended. This is a good, honest seller and I have had several transactions with them where the goods were of excellent quality for the price, the shipping was fast and the communication was good. In my opinion, to call them fraudulent is libelous. I would reserve that term for scammers, ripoffs, cheats and thieves (may they rot in Hell).

    40. It's not misleading, it's an attempt to get as many hits on the auction as possible. kcurry9 hit it dead in the black, it's to indicate the item is FOR dolls from those companies, not necessarily FROM the company in question.

Agreed. I've had many very good purchases with this seller and absolutely no complaints, and it doesn't seem fair to continue to vilify a seller who's obviously made a concerted effort to keep their practices aboveboard.

    41. I agree.. there are so many scammers already... if we keep looking for faults then the hobby will suffer because people from Asia will not going to keep selling to us. If Releaserain close her store then a lot of people would be affected because to be honest not everybody can afford to buy a pair of shoes of $30 and underwear of $25...

    42. Thirding the concern about "fraudulent" in the title. I just recently bought from them and had no problems, shipping was prompt, etc. One mistake does not a "fraudulent" seller make.

    43. If you go back and read the first post in this thread you'll notice that the person was more concerned about them copying other company's designs.
But I agree, the title really needs to be changes; "fraudulent" is the wrong word to use.

    44. I read the first post, thanks :daisy: I also don't see any copies in the store right now, at a quick glance at least.

    45. Uh, as far as I know you can't change your posts in the marketplace feedback forum now... so I think it's stuck like that unless some divine modly power changes it.

    46. I apologize for what I said earlier, I guess using other's ideas to an extent, and basic designs is an okay thing to do, we have to draw a line but not at clothing. You get what you pay for. It's art, but only so much as fashion art. If you tried to have knock offs of a van gogh painting or something it's illegal :P

But then again the world of clothing is completely different, I guess? I was just a bit miffed about how she used to use other company pictures, and not her own, then have hers under those, it can be confusing, neh? :P

    47. The point is that since they have stopped using the company photos (which was the only thing they were doing wrong), it isn't fair to keep kicking them for it!

    48. agree:) Did this should be closed? I'm new here so I don't know...:sweat

    49. I'd say close the thread. Or change the header. Where's the Request-A-Mod button?

    50. Thanks for changing it

    51. I love releaserain. I've bought things from them 4 or 5 times. They're the only place I've ever found canvas slip-ons for SD sized dolls. I also got a great shirt from them. Their prices are very fair, their item quality is wonderful them, shipping prices are good and shipping is speedy.

    52. I purchased a pair of eyes from Releaserain. They shipped quickly, arrived as expected, and were nicely packaged. :)

    53. I purchased several items from Releaserain earlier this week, and their listings still appeared to be free of purloined images. However, I've had no response to my requests for S&H confirmation, and no invoice. (I know prices are quoted for 'additional items', but my purchases fall into different additional item price categories). It's been reassuring to read the later positive comments on this thread; I'll guess I'd better give it another 48 hours and see what happens

    54. I think this thread should be moved/changed to another category instead of "Problem Transactions". Most people that have posted here have had good transactions vs. problem ones. I think this is very misleading for potential buyers.

    55. I have to say that I dissagree, Luckyl. I would like to know if someone I was considering buying from had a checkered past, so I could make an informed choice. And really, even if most transactions were good, there is still that troublesome percentage of problem dealings. There's only one bullet in Russian Roulette, but it sucks to be the one to get it.

    56. Following up from my earlier post: I can now happily add that my invoice from Releaserain arrived today, so I can send payment and complete the transaction, phew! It did take five days and two requests to arrive, though - and payment is required in 7 days of purchase. Still, it turned out OK, with a 40% S&H discount for combining my items to boot. Guess that was worth waiting for... ;)

    57. I bought a pair of shoes and two pairs of eyes from releaserain and I have to say the transaction was steller! I paid airmail and I got it all within a week and a half!

    58. That's just what we mean when we say that it is misleading to list this thread under Problem Transactions - there are none here. The original "problem" that started this thread was that the seller was making outfits closely similar to some sold by Luts and other high-end companies and using those companies' photos, taken directly from their websites, in addition to their own. This "no-no" was brought to their attention and they stopped doing it.

So, this is the total of their "checkered past." This thread contains zero "percentage of problem dealings" which is hardly "troublesome."

Of course, you wouldn't know this unless you read the entire thread, so you must have made the assumption that there are some problem transactions because, and only because, this thread is listed under Problem Transactions.

      Which is misleading.
