I have no space for a sewing machine so I have to hand sew anything for my dolls. I also don't own a sewing machine (yet). I mostly just don't want to leave the poor things naked too long, haha! I have an MSD and one LUTS Senior DELF. I have some clothes for the LUTS boy so I'm mostly hoping for a good pattern for undies for him. And some skirt/blouse/dress patterns for MSD girl.
If you're just getting started and you have access to a printer, I recommend doing a search for downloadable patterns on Etsy because those will come with step-by-step instructions. There's lots of nice MSD patterns on there. Many freely-distributed patterns will have no instructions and assume you already have the sewing skills to figure out the assembly, which can be frustrating.
I’ve found some and used some from Etsy! If I can do it, anyone can :-) I didn’t have a sewing machine until recently so everything was done by hand.
Ive made cosplays for myself with no machine so its definitly posible to use it most cases! It will just take alot longer. You can also find some patterns in the "workshop" area at the top! (next to the marketplace)
I am newby in sewing and I use patterns of Requiem Art Designs. The difficulty is specified in description and some are very easy. Ex : Beginner Basics: Jeans & T Shirt (on etsy too)
Totally behind the Etsy suggestions, I got a lot of patterns on that site that are good for beginners. Those by YueBaiHandmade (when she sells them), LuminariaDesigns and SeraphimPatterns come to mind (though I bought the patterns for SDs, since it's what I collect). It's not exactly a pattern, but some clothes can be made out of rectangles. You can make a basic t-shirt/sweatshirt/long-sleeve shirt with 4 rectangles. Kimonos are also made with only rectangles (from what I understand).
Lomi has a bunch of free patterns on her website and youtube tutorials for most of them. She uses a machine, but I've had no problems with handsewing myself. Sewing Patterns for Ball-Jointed Dolls If you need advice on how to sew by hand better/ more easily, I've found both Bernadette Banner and Abby Cox on youtube helpful.
I've seen some of Lomi's things, she's so talented! Thank you. And thank you for the suggestion! I just got an old sewing machine from a late family friend that another friend is going to teach me how to use soon too.
I've never sewn by hand, so I don't know how different it is from machine sewing... Anyway, I like Jaune Yero's patterns on etsy. They are simple, but easy to follow and very pretty.
I'm gonna be the crazy one and say anything you can sew on a machine, you can absolutely sew by hand (I've handsewn several cloaks and dresses for myself being a medieval reenactor, haha) I second finding patterns you like on etsy. Doll clothes don't need to hold up to the same kind of wear and tear as real human clothes so you can get away with simpler stitches like a running stitch easily. plus, they're small garments, and you'll build
