Hi evryone, This is my first post here in teh artists's forum. I've been working on my first ever doll head, but got stuck with making ears (I wanted to make human years for her). Anyways, whatever I've done doesn't look like ears at all ... I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions? Thanks a ton! Cheri
Stare at your ears in the mirror for a LONG time. I have a lot of piercings in my ears so I know my ear anatomy pretty well - tragus/antitragus, conch, daith, rook (that one's a b*tch to heal!), helix, etc. This website http://www.bodyjewelleryshop.com/body_piercing_information/location_types/ has an extensive list of ear piercing types which really help you learn ear anatomy. NOTE that website does have some "adult" piercings (illustrations, not photos) so, uh, use caution.
Thank you! ejchristian! Hehehe, downloaded a pic of the ear! Thanks for the caution, too! appreciate it!
Hmm... always wondered how those piercings worked.... I cannot imagine doing that though. And to keep this on topic.. it is a good site for ear anatomy. Never realized exactly how much detail was in them. It will help for if I ever try to mod ears on my own.
If the "those" piercings you're talking about are the "those" piercings I'm thinking you're talking about... Meh, they're not so bad.
hehehe, thanks everyone! I'm still making the ears... somehow I find it's the most difficult part of the head!
Ears are such a pain. They're really complicated, and they don't add anything to the face's expression, so they're not very interesting. And once you've finished one, you've got to make another one to match. What does help, though, is good sculpting tools. These, for example, are fantastic. I'm still kicking myself for losing my little white chisel.
It's difficult. I made a clay head and spent hours trying to make good ears. No luck tho.. Eventually the head dried out while I was on vacation, so.. Now I have to see about making the ears and putting it all together for casting or whatnot. Ears are so danged tricky..!
the only thing missing in the head i'm working is the ears... please cheri, post some pics of your work! ^^
Aww... thank you! You guys are the bee's knees!! Logodae ~ Thanks for the link! They look like GREAT tools! I've got to buy them! I'm at this moment using a needle to sculpt the ears @@" And just like you said, I've made one that looks okay, but now I'm so daunted cos now I have to make another that's exactly the same! @@ Bristol ~ Sorry the head dried and now you have to make separate years... Hope things'll eventually work well for you! and LOL... wish mine get a little drier -- I'm using super sculpy and I have very warm hands -- not a good combination here! isa_cuomo ~ I hear you about the ears! I'll post the head as soon as I finish the other ear and attach them to the head, hopefully soon...
just started working on my girls ears! ^^ i took lots of pic, so i can make a tuto if it turns out okay!
