Hello, I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but has anyone tried dyeing an already tan doll? I have a dollmore suntan and it's a little too ashy looking to me. If I used a yellow or maybe orange would I get the more realistic tone I'm looking for?
I've had a friend dye my Real Skin doll from Iplehouse into a darker tan, closer to their Light Brown resin. It's possible to dye a doll darker but not lighter, and even then it's not always possible to determine what the outcome will be. Maybe test it on a piece that's not too important first?
I've dyed a Dollshe Amanda Beauty very dark tan from pure ebony, a PlanetDoll MSD Riz a darker tan from PlanetDoll tan, and Doll Legend imported tan hands darker tan. I’ve also color corrected with red, purple, or green to cancel green, yellow, and red undertones respectively. Just don’t stick it in the dyebath very long and use a small amount of dye for color corrections—you can always dye more if it’s not enough of a change
Hallo all with experience and especially americanseamstress , I know you have lots of praxis, PLS have you ever tried dye light tan color to "normal"? Is it possible to change color towards whitening? CASE: I have Rainmanking SU in tan. She need to go on DollShe fresh skin body. Or should I try to color the body? Thanks a lot for every answer.
@susana789 Unfortunately, trying to dye a doll lighter is kind of an impossible task just based on how dyeing works. Dye is clear, and it works by adding color to an item. There is no way that you can add color to something in a way that removes its color. For that you need something which is opaque, to cover over existing color, like paint
OK thanks, I will save my energy and doll and not try this. So the only option is dyeing the light body (mean dye dollshe body in fresh to little darker). I saw almost all of yours YT videos and if you never did it I think it's really impossible. And thanks to you for every one of yours experiments for humanity (BJD folks)
Hi! I have a AS suntan doll body that appears to be a little too red although it looks okay in pictures but when natural/sun light hits, his resin looks like a... salmon color? or is this normal? what dye color can help me tone it down a little? Thank you!
Color cannot be removed but if you put that doll in sunlight or wait a little they will lose reds on their own. If you have a good eye with color you could try blushing over it with greenish paler tones or with browns or things. I wouldn't dye it until I'd experimented with what tones of color seem to best adjust the red. I think you will get a somewhat darker tan whatever you overdye it with, though. If that's okay with you, then it's definitely doable.
Thank you! my first plan was to leave it under the sun TuT for some time to lighten the red, but I'm worried that it'll turn pink or link pink instead. Sadly, I don't have any extra pieces to experiment this on to.
One good way to try out colors on your doll's resin is to use the headcap. You can just test stuff on the back of it and unless they usually go bald, if you mess it up no one will ever see. But it's hard to permanently damage resin if you're using the right materials for faceups or dyeing- it can almost always be restored, dye removed, properly sealed paint jobs wiped.
unfortunately, The head I use is of different color too-- I just color matched it to the body. I'm curious if I still need to seal the doll with msc after dyeing? I don't really mind if the resin gets a bit darker after dyeing ^^; I just don't like how orange/red it is atm.
Yes you do need to seal the doll with MSC after you dye it. Then you can begin to put a faceup on it. I'd advise reading your way through the Stickies at the top of the workshop forum for a good idea of the steps you will be taking if you dye and faceup your own doll, and the safety precautions you need.
