I did a super quick little project this morning and wanted to share! About a year ago, I got a great deal on a pair of Tonocha Minifee ballet feet, but they were in white skin. I don’t have any dolls in white skin, so I needed to dye them to be normal skin tone. MNF dye pictures for DoA by Stasia, on Flickr I looked for advice on this forum and it seemed like Rit Dyemore Apricot Orange was my best choice. This thread was extremely useful, especially @zekarmisama who shared their recipe for white skin to normal skin dye. They used 2ml dye for 3/4 gallon water (12 cups) so I reduced that to 1 ml for 6 cups of water since I only had a small pot and a small project. Since I couldn’t string the feet like I normally would for a dye project, I used a ribbon and magnet instead. It worked perfectly. I kept them in for probably 15 seconds at a time until the tone matched. It was less than 2 minutes in all. MNF dye pictures for DoA by Stasia, on Flickr They turned out even better than I had hoped! If I look incredibly closely, I can see a pinkish tinge on her toes, but that’s it. I may dye the slippers a darker pink as well someday.
I couldn’t have asked for a better match! I truly didn’t expect it to work this well. I think it helps that this body is my newest from Fairyland so it’s not at all yellowed.
Just one! I dyed a tiny centaur body from white to gray a few years back. I have a project journal about it as well if you’re curious. I think dyeing is super fun, but I hate restringing and face-ups. If I could dye without restringing then I think I’d have lots of custom colored dolls honestly.
Thanks, and I’m always happy to pass on knowledge! I’m glad someone else posted about Apricot being the right dye, because I never would have guessed. The bottle is VERY orange.
