Dyeing dyeing maskcatdoll lisette.

Aug 22, 2025

    1. warning for doll nudity.

disliked how orange the maskcatdoll tan skin colour is. chose to utilise the RitDye Synthetic formula Eucalyptus Bark, comprising 355ml Chocolate Brown and 118ml Peacock Green. a bluer undertone would have neutralised the orange more fully, as it opposes it on the colour wheel, but with lisette i wished to see if it could become a pleasantly warm undertone. when i dye my other maskcatdoll in tan, astrid, i will experiment moreso with true neutralisation / cooling.

began by destringing the doll and going over each part with a magic eraser to ensure there were no lingering traces of sealant or uneven lines. after that, each part i strung onto twine for dipping. maskcatdoll has few anchor points within the limbs to attach string to; i found it easiest to leave a string end out on either side that could be pinched together in order to hold the piece aloft. i then mixed the dye formula into 11.5 litres of water, brought it to a simmer, and began dipping pieces first into dye and then into cool water to rinse.

after experimenting with a knee piece to begin with, i ended up dipping each piece for thirty seconds to get a deep brown shade. the lack of anchor points on the maskcatdoll face plate and headcap was particularly of concern, as i did not want my method of suspension to leave marks. i actually ended up using a plastic sieve to hold them up in the dye while limiting movement, which worked beautifully. results below:

the pictures appear more orange than the doll does in person. overall a pleasant deep brown with a warm undertone.

as seen above, there was some staining to the legs and upper arms. this does not bother me as i think it looks skinlike, and will be interesting inspiration when it comes to blushing the pieces. it is also preferable to have an imperfect result on my first try dyeing resin, so as to have realistic expectations and less fear of staining whenever i should dye another doll. success!

thank you to lutke for letting me know how to add images here.

    2. That color turned out beautifully!
Dyeing is always a bit of a gamble but this turned out great. I agree the unevenness can probably be incorporated into the blushing and will probably look quite natural.

    3. It's a lovely colour. Nice job! I do think the unevenness is something you can work with. The darker colour really highlights the sculpt well.

    4. I definitely like the darker color as it’s more eye pleasing to me. I’d love to see her completed and hope to see some follow up pictures! Well done on the dying of the doll! ❤️

    5. She looks lovely! I like the skin texture effect. It would be great if Maskcat would offer such a lovely dark brown, but I don't think it is likely they will in the future, so I'm glad you were able to dye her the color you wanted.

    6. The color you achieved is so rich and lovely! I also really like the staining, which could read as almost bruise-like. It gives the doll such a liveliness! I would love to see her restrung.

    7. That color is gorgeous, and this project is such an inspiration!
