Php 20,000 which is equivalent to $458. Mine came in with special lenses and other stuff so it was more expensive than a basic kit.

It was second hand from someone, but it was almost brand new cos the owner had to sell it immediately.

No, I specifically looked for one that did NOT come with the kit lens. However, I used the kit lens with my D5000.

I only own one which is a Tamron AF 18-200 mm F/3.5-6.3

What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why?
I chose a lens that is all in one because I don't like having to change lenses and risk getting dust into my sensor. I often shoot at high apertures at a 50mm focal point.

What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why?
EF 35mm f/1.4L USM. On a full frame camera this focal length is very versatile. It's wide enough to take landscape photo, and if you move closer it has delicious bokeh and sharpness for portrait. If you are on a budget, get the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM (the 1.8 II equivalent is really good too).

   Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
   It's a good standard lens. It works well for most all photographs I take of my larger dolls.
   For smaller ones, I like the macro lens, but that really depends on the type of photo.
   If I want a close up of the face, even with the larger dolls, I'll use my macro lens.

   I've done a wide variety of photography. I mainly do still life, but I've also done animal, street photography, and landscape.

Definitely the 50mm! Lets me play around with the light and depth of field more than the kit lens (at least in a way I find more appealing). Also, not having any zoom it forces me to move around more to get a shot.

Absolute beginner. Never even held a DSLR before I bought mine.

Yup, we had a semester of photography in my graphic design program. I only had a borrowed point and shoot when I did the class, but I learned some things from the studio set ups and outdoor projects that I've been able to apply to my photography now.

8. What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why?
   Depending on the size of the doll, either the 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 or the 70-200mm f/4. The 28-105mm lens has the ability to do 1:2 macro photography which makes it really useful for smaller dolls where it's hard to focus close enough with other lenses. For larger dolls, the 70-200 f/4 gives me a longer focal length of 200mm and the ability to blur out backgrounds at f/4.

   I do a lot of portrait photography, mostly in niche markets... specifically cosplay, lolita fashion, and kimono. I'm looking to get a more "mainstream" market going next year for general portait photography but most of my current business is with cosplay. It makes beautiful bokeh and smudges the background, making the main theme stand out more. The zoom lense was a cheaper one, but it lets me take closeups. When I make some quick shots, I use this one.

   The macro lens is really great. The kit lens would work, but I usually only use it when I'm out and need the zoom. Someday I'll buy a nice zoom lens, but they are pretty pricey.

   Lots of outdoor shots, travel photos (tons of Japan!), also got an enclosure and have been taking shots with it underwater (one of the main reasons I haven't upgraded - enclosures and ports are expensive!). I have some great shark, stingray, eel, and turtle photos from FP! I don't have any links to share now, but may get around to posting them someday. I love how creative you can get with underwater shots, especially when you start shooting with really wide angles/FE and large domes for over/under shots and stuff like that.

    Advanced, but I always feel like I have more to learn. Learning how to take photos underwater was like learning how to shoot all over again. Light behaves a lot differently down there, not to mention it takes a lot of coordination!

8. What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why? Canon 50 mm. It’s light and good for compositing, which is how I create my backgrounds. When I need the entire doll in the frame, I use the kit or wide angle lens, depending on the shot.

No idea - I inherited it from a family member who was upgrading their tech. Nikon introduced this body in 2012, so I guess they bought it sometime in the last 5-10 years, probably from a local brick & mortar shop.

Yes, it's DX 18-55mm/f3.5-5.6 (cropped frame lens).

7. If you have other lenses, what are they?
The family member also gave me a Sigma 70-300mm/f4 - 5.6. They used it for bird photography. I have no use for it and should probably give it back...
I bought a Nikon DX 35mm/f1.8 prime lens for doll photos. It's the only cropped-frame prime lens that Nikon makes, so it was cheaper than full frame lenses.

8. What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why?
I use the prime lens 95% of the time. I bought it because the specs suited doll photos while still being within a reasonable price, and it's working out great for my pics.
I use the kit lens only when I need to zoom out.

I only use it for doll photos. Otherwise, I have little interest in camera photography.

Definitely the macro, sharper images and it’s designed for close-up use.

Macro shots of insects and plants are my usual subjects of choice. These are old examples taken with my previous camera. I haven’t got more recent ones anywhere I can link to.

The 70-300 is mainly used when we visit the local wildlife park or if we go out for a scenic drive.

Amateur, not a beginner but not really done or learned enough to be classed as Intermediate

Nope I very much wing it. I’m artistic so that helps me get away with looking like I know more than I do. I should take lessons though so that I can get more consistent results and learn how to process them afterwards in a more efficient way other than guessing and muddling through.

The Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM lens that I ordered with my first camera and have been using ever since is a Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM lens, and I've been using the Sigma art 30mm f1.4 lens since 2024.

What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why?
Both lenses are great, but since my camera is a crop body, I'm a little more comfortable with the 30mm angle of view because it's compatible, and the 50mm is pretty inadequate for indoor shooting.

What other type of photography do you shoot with your DSLR?

Actually, I only shoot dolls, and the only non-dolls I shoot are action figures. Sometimes I'll shoot landscapes or cats or something like that while I'm shooting dolls, but I don't go out on a separate shoot for that. Instead, I have one entry-level high-end camera for birds. I've considered buying a good zoom lens for my DSLR for bird photography, but it's quite expensive and too heavy for me to carry...

I still consider myself a beginner, because I don't know anything beyond the basics of the camera... I find it really hard to master the knowledge of the camera and the techniques I use in photography.

No. When I first got my camera, I forgot how to use ISO, shutter speed, aperture, etc. every time, so I just used "aperture priority mode" for about a year, as a friend advised me X°D

I got it sometime in early highschool, so maybe like 2016-2017? It was already old by then and we got it from a used goods pawn shop. My dad was going through a photography phase and bought it, and it ended up becoming pseudo-mine because he stopped caring about photography within a few weeks. I think it was like $600? Apparently the first release was in 2010.

Honestly I don't know. It was used and came with a second lens, I'm not even sure what the original lens is. I don't know much about lenses but we have I think 5 of them now? But one doesn't work for some reason.

I used to try out various lenses because my dad had a lens buying spree and asked me to test them. In the end I settled for a small one I think is meant for portraiture, which is 50mm. I've tried longer and also a macro lens and none of them really allowed me to get a good range of not-too-close-not-too-far distance from the doll compared to the 50mm lens. I don't remember the brand of any of the lenses honestly. I'm not good with names...I genuinely recognize the lenses by shape/size alone.

I actually started out with object and nature photography with this camera. I used a different, longer lens so that I could get wider scenes. I don't remember what the mm was, sorry! There was also a period of time where I tried taking pictures of airplanes.

I'd consider myself somewhere between beginner and intermediate I think. I don't understand the mechanisms of cameras very well, but I've been taking photos for a while and I understand composition and the artistic aspects of the hobby. I'm just very lacking in the actual tech knowledge. I took a photography class in high school, but it only taught the absolute basics. I think I still need to explore aperture and shutter speed combinations more.
