Well, mine is the 18-55mm lens, mainly because that's all you really need when it comes to most doll photography. There's not much calling for telephoto or panoramic lenses. I do use filters.

Oddly enough, the 100 2.8. Insanely sharp, even wide open. It's cheap, unpopular, and not that common, but somehow it blows glass that cost 10 times as much (actually infinite, since I got my 100 for free!) out of the water.

I really like portrature and glamor work. I enjoy lighting more than the actual shooting, I think. I also shoot a variety of sports (especially auto racing) and have experience in photojournalism and travel photography. I'm thinking of trying to get a newspaper job again soon, actually. My dream is to work for National Geographic as a feature photographer, like JoeMcNally. I also shoot cosplay, since I'm already in the community and it lets me practice in a low-pressure situation. What was the price? I believe it was about $499CAD? The upgrade from my model, the D3100, is about $899CAD.
Where did you purchase your DSLR? I bought it at a local camera store. Buying at local shops instead of chain stores can save you a few bucks and you might even get some money off extra things (I got $10 off a bag when I bought my camera!).
Did you purchase your DSLR with the kit lens? Yep, it's an 18-55mm.
If you have other lenses, what are they? I also have a 55-200mm VR lens.
What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why? I like using my kit lens the best because it's best for all around shots. With my 55-200mm, I have to stand a few feet back from the subject to get it in focus. However, sometimes standing back is a good thing, because the lens zooms in very close. It's good for face closeups!
What other type of photography do you shoot with your DSLR? Post examples or links, if possible. I also like to shoot a lot of nature pictures, and pictures of people. The 55-200 is actually very nice for getting close ups of plants and things, even though you have to stand a few feet back from it. But yeah, basically I shoot some portraits and a lot of nature with my DSLR.
How do you classify yourself in photography: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced I'd say I'm hovering somewhere in between Beginner and Intermediate. I'm learning more about how my camera works and starting to stray away from Auto mode more and more, and working with settings that achieve the looks I want my picture to have. With some more practice though, I'm sure I can be better.~
Have you taken photography classes/training before? At school (I'm in grade 11), I take a Communications Technology class. It incorporates graphic design and photography into one, and I've learned quite a bit about photography through it (even though my teacher likes to talk a lot...). I've even gotten some good experience with taking some pictures in a studio, and that was really fun. I'd like to take my doll into that studio one day... Hmm.

I love using my Micro lens to do super close-ups; I can get awesome depth perception and fine detail.
I also prefer using a manual lens... I learned photography on a manual/film SLR, so it's a bit more of a familiar feel for me.

Have you taken photography classes/training before? I read a few books on using the camera and photography in general. I do have a background in 3d modeling and rendering and was able to apply a lot about building lighting sets to photography from that.

Honestly? I take what I would consider "decent" pictures and I'm happy with that. I do a good deal of editing with the raws in Photoshop. I rather enjoy working with photoshop though.

8. What is your favorite lens to use with your DSLR when photographing your dolls and why? The default one. I used my aging Kodak point-and-shoot for a long time, so ANY lense was a good lense. I love the default lense for most photos, although I would like to get a macro lense at some point. It's not really a priority right now, though!
9. What other type of photography do you shoot with your DSLR? Post examples or links, if possible. I did some general photography on/around my campus, but nothing really specific. I've also done a tiny bit of portrait photography with this camera, but not much--since I got it, I've actually been rather unfortunately busy, so I haven't had time to give it as much love as it deserves.

11. Have you taken photography classes/training before? Just one! I took a digital photography class because I felt that I had outgrown my point and shoot camera, but I wasn't comfortable or confident enough to buy a DSLR. That class was the perfect compromise: it gave me a chance to get familiar with a DSLR before buying one of my own in a structured, directed environment. I learned a lot about photography and about being a good photographer, so I'd recommend anyone who was looking to do the same thing!
