All sorts - portrait, night, light painting, etc. At first I was put off by the 6.1 megapixels but from what I've learned, too high a MP count can actually result in grainy or over-sensitive pictures, especially if you shoot JPEG instead of RAW. (RAW is the best file format to shoot - but not all computer editors are built to handle it and it will take up way more room on your camera. I shoot high quality JPEG). I really like the way it picks up light and the customizability. I've had equal luck with default modes and with programmed-in settings. Obviously I love soft focus and shadows, but hopefully you can see from some of the shots that you can get really nice clear photos too. How do you classify yourself in photography: Intermediate, I'd say. I don't think I suck or I wouldn't have picspammed you but I know I could get way, way better. Have you taken photography classes/training before? Yes, several black and white photography classes that teach basic composition and how to develop. Most of my digital I've learned from books, online and most importantly just doing it. Experimentation is the way to go, I've found. Honestly, with composition that's true to. The rule of thirds is great but if you find, "Hey, I really hate the rule of thirds, I'm going to center everything cuz I LIKE IT" or "what happens if I cut off the edges of the subject and have lots of negative space?" that's up to you and you'll only figure it out by doing it.

While I still don't shoot as often as I could, I have decent command over the technical aspects, including flash. I use Lightroom 4 for post (local adjustments are so good). The kit lens is a better focal length for dolls than the zoom, so it's the one I use for dolls, but I'm planning on getting either the 50mm prime lens or a macro lens for doll photography as my next lens purchase. 9.
