I hope this is the right section.

I'm looking to buy a new pair of eyes for my DoC Tender Zen, I've got them all picked out and everything, however I'm not sure what size eye I should get. He's got his default 16mm eyes from DoD in him now, however they seem a little big (you can't see the whites of his eyes at all!)

Basically I'm wondering what the smallest size is that can be used? Or what is a recommended eye size for a DoC doll?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I searched but couldn't find anything!

While I'm at it, I don't suppose there are any tutorials on how to take the headcap off a DoC doll? (yeah, I know I'm pathetic for not managing to remove it yet! >_< )

Well, my Yen came with 16mm Glass eyes (from DoD) and I think they look pretty nice!~

I've heard that for most MSD, 16mm is pretty good. Some people use 18mm, but others (for a smaller iris and bigger white) use 14mm. It also depends on the company, because some companies will make the Iris bigger or smaller than others~

As for removing the headcap on DoC, if you find a tutorial, PLEASE TELL ME ~_~; i have no luck removing TK's headcap;; so fixing his eyes was a pain (could hardly get my fingers in there;; )

 

It depends on how young or old you want your doll to look. For an older doll, go for the smaller eyes. My DOD U, Phaedren, wears 14mm, which seem to suit him quite nicely. But I wouldn't to any smaller than that, because then you might get problems with the whites showing too much. 16mm is standard for DODs, and 18mm can give them that really beautiful, wide-eyed innocence kind of a look.

Hmm, I think it depends on the headmold. I've seen the Guardian boys look fine in 14mm, but I have a Tender Too and 14mm eyes don't fit. You can see a gap at the corner of the eye. (It's possible to fill it in with pink putty so it looks okay but the smaller curvature of the eye makes it look more shadowed... well, it's not horrible, but kind of weird) With the 14mm eyes you probably won't be able to turn the eyes to the side at all, either. Well, I don't know about other headmolds.

You might want to try a different brand of eyes... I think I heard that Souldoll eyes had a smaller iris in relation to the overall size. I have Kemper glass eyes in my Tender Too now and the irises are definitely smaller than in the default arcylic eyes that came from DOD.

 

I use 14mm in my boy. I think he looks better with 14mms.. They make him look older. and i find the 16mms a bit big for him, truth be told. And seeing as Tender-Zens have such small eyes already, i'd think 14mms would be better.. Hehe~ but that's just my opinion.

 

I use 16mm in my Yen, because that's all I have. ^^;;; I modded his eyes open a bit, though, so 16mm is a good size for him--depending on how I situate the eyes, I can get both the innocent look and the more mature one with one size. 16mm is the best size for DoCs in general, IMO, because it's a happy medium.

 

It depends on how big their eye sockets are. My Tender Too's look way too big in most 16mm. My Bee-A has much bigger eye sockets and 16mm is about right for her.

 

I have 14mms in Chy, who's a Tender Yen. When I first got him, I noticed that I had some trouble positioning them - like someone else said, it seemed like there was a gap at the corners - and ended up sticking with the 16mms DoD sent. Once I did his current faceup, though, I tried them again, and they seemed to worked fine. O_o It may just be a matter of fiddling with them until you get them right...

If all I'm going to do is mess with eyes, I don't bother taking the headcap off... I just slide it gently back until there's enough of an opening to get my fingers into, and allow it to rest against the back of the head until I close it. (Don't know if I explained that well... Sorry. ^^; )

 

I use 14 mm myself. The eyes he came with are beautiful, but too big for him, which makes it impossible for me to position them right and he looks wall-eyed.

I think 12 mm can be used, but then you need to have a white tack to hold them in the sockets as the tack most likely would be visible (I have a small slit where the tack is visible with my 14mm eyes, because the sockets are made for 16 mm)

 

I have 16mm eyes in my TToo and TBee-A . . . however, if you buy 14mm Masterpiece eyes (they'll be called "15mm" on most sites), they're just the right compromise between 14mm and 16mm . . . and because they're silicone eyes, the "whites" are larger and you won't have a gapping problem at the eye-corners.

I think other silicone eyes (such as SOOM eyes) would also work the same way -- you could get 14mm eyes to work if they're a different shape than "hard" urethane/acrylic/glass eyes.

I have a Tender Yen and I am using 14mm on him as well. I would prefer 14mm to 16mm which kinda overwhelms the eye sockets.

 

I have a Tender Too and Ryu uses 16mm and 14mm eyes as far as I know. The other larger sizes give him an extreme "deer-in-headlights" look and the smaller ones don't fill the eye at all.

 

Tender Too comes with 16mm eyes by default ...I use 14mm myself.

I'm waiting for my 14mm's, but for the meantime, my TToo is looking to the side with 16mm's, and it's not too bad :3

My Tender Too has 16mm violet eyes, but they still look a bit large, whereas on his twin (T. Bee-A) they look fine.

Can people post more pics of their dolls with the 14mm eyes? Im seriously considering changing his eyes to make him look a bit more human. I have a pair of cobalt 14mm acrylics to test, but they're not the colour I want for him.

 

I dunno... it would really depend on whether or not you want a big-eyed more innocent look or a more mature expression. By default though, the eyes are 16mm. Personally though, I live the way Ryu looks with 16mm eyes he's so cute that way... anway...

I'm making this after much thought of wigs, eyes, and shoes. Just today I as able to get my ideal shoes ordered for my incoming H.Kirill, but I've been looking around various other companies for possible alternate gear. For eyes, I've visited some DoA threads too that I got a bit of info from but there are still uncertain answers for me. I suppose my major questions would consist of:

Eyes
- DoCs come with 16mm (randomly chosen color) eyes, but owners seem to like switching them with 14mm eyes instead. Is there really a noticeable difference between the two?
- The majority of DoCs come with acrylic eyes rather than glass, and I've seen somewhere outside via the web that switching acrylics to glass might not be wise for certain resins as they might not be strong enough/it will scratch the resin? I don't see how this would happen, but I'm up for understanding this matter better! Would it be possible to switch the DoC acrylics with glass?

Wigs
- What the heck is the size suitable for a DoC head? XD They have significantly smaller heads than the other models, am I right?
- Is there another site that carries wigs that will fit DoCs without making them look like they're wearing a hairyhat (aka fit them properly)?

Shoes
- Will MSD sized shoes really fit a DoC? If this is so, then I imagine other sites that hold MSD-sized shoes would be suitable for a DoC as well?

I'd appreciate your help with these

 

There is a noticeable difference between 16 and 14mm eyes. Smaller eyes tend to make a doll look older (but if the eye sockets are too big it makes them look crazy ^_^; ). Kirill has sleepy eyes, right? On narrow-eyed dolls eyes that are too big make them look a little strange. If you're not happy with the eye size he comes with, you can always buy cheap acrylics to find out what size/color you'd prefer.
I've never heard of glass eyes scratching the resin. You might run into trouble with high or low domes not fitting properly, but you shouldn't be causing any damage to the resin. o_o;
DoCs wear 7-8s. 6-7s are too tight, but 7-8s are too loose. -_- You get some leeway depending on the company. Moleskin is your friend. Also, Monique 7-8s seem to fit quite well but I've yet to meet a wig of theirs I liked. ^_^; Dollheart also fits well because of the elastic headcap.
MSD shoes will fit DoCs. I've yet to meet one that didn't.

This depends mostly on the size of the eye holes! My Bee-A has to take 16mms, because 14mms on her make her look any range of scared/shocked/fierce. My friends' Tender Too and T. Bee-A however, have much smaller eye holes - they use 14mms (in a brighter colour too) because it makes their eyes look much more... alive? Rather than a patch of colour.

You might not think that it makes a difference, but 2mm on that scale is rather obvious! ^^; Like the person before me, I suggest getting some cheaper acrylics to try out sizing - or if you have friends with dolls, borrow their eyes. =p

Not quite, but they do have smaller heads than say... Volks MSDs? But well, I use 7-8s mostly - the actual fit varies from company to company, but Leeke wigs generally run large on DoC. I've had good luck with some of the HK companies - you know you score when you find companies with DoC dolls as their models. =p

Yes! =D I haven't had any problems with shoes whatsoever.

For eyes, I have heard of soft glass eyes from a thread here, but I can't remember much about them. You could probably switch the acrylics for glass though.

The 7-8 wigs I got from Kemper Doll are big on the Too and Bee-A, but that can be easily fixed. I currently have a hat on both of them to keep the wigs on until then. I tried a Poshdoll MSD wig on them, but it looked strange. It's an elastic headcap, but it's still big on them.

I haven't tried any shoes on them yet though. ^_^;;

 

Some of the shoes will not fit DOC boys. Their feet are a bit longer and there isn't as much range of motion in the ankles so it can be a struggle. Dollheart shoes and boots, in particular, are practically impossible. I gave a friend a pair of the cross boots from last year and they will fit her Bee-a but not her Too or Si.

So I'll need to watch myself with buying wigs then xD Yeah, I figured the "MSD" sized wigs would be a tad too big on the DoCs... but still classified as 7-8, huh? hmm~... they need a 7 straight size maybe <.< and elastics sound good... that would help.

Yeah, the resin scratching thing sounded a bit off to me, but I lacked enough knowledge to make any judgements.
I've looked up masterpiece eyes too. They're very lovely, but they now resist the 16-14mm sizes and go with 15 and 13? 15 may not be enough of a difference but 13 would be too much...?
I think I want to shy away from acrylics a bit for now just so I can learn more about the other eye options out there. Some nice bright, glossy eyes might bring out his eyes more, methinks?

As for shoes, yeah I've seen people go both ways about "MSD size" fitting DoCs <.< I see how it can differ from company to company. Perhaps someone could give me a few examples of DOs and DON'Ts for DoC Alternative Shoe Shopping? x3 Which "MSD sized" company shoes should I stay away from/embrace like pudding? eg. "Laidoll 1/4 shoes are a nono!"

Forgive my continuing curiousities

 

Wigs: I've bought like 20 MSD wigs from leeke and only one of them has been too big on all of my DOCs (and that was fixed with a rubber band around the head). Many of the wigs are a bit big on Yen (since his head is so small) but about all fit Mir well. So it really depends on your DOCs head. All Luts kid delf and AR LF wigs that I have tried have been way too big...
I've stuck with leeke, cherish and DOD they always fit well enough.

Eyes: All of my DOCs usually wear glass eyes ('cept for Yen) and I've never had any problems with them o_ó;; I prefer glass since they're more alive. SOOM eyes would be nice as well, I think, but I personally don't like the high dome that much -makes the eyes harder to position. I am getting 14mm SOOM eyes for my Tender Zen soon, so I'll see how they'll look then. Edit// They look really good on her.
I recommend 14mm eyes for tender DOCs... They would mostly look scary on the bigger eyed molds (I tried a pair on Yen and it was scary), sometimes okay like on my Too, but they tend to look a bit starey with those. If the options are 15mm and 13mm I'd try the 15 on tenders and got a 17mm for normal eyed DOCs.

Shoes: I've bought shoes from DOD, Doll Heart, Cherish and Leeke. DODs fit well, of course. The DollHeart ones are almost too big, but fit well with socks. Cherish are a bit big as well but there's no problem... and MOST of the Leeke's fit. If they don't, the problem is the width. I'd be careful shopping for DOC boys, since their feet are WIDE. I bought leeke 003 (...I think ^^; and they only fit my DOC girl. Yeah, so careful with narrow shoes.

I have both an Homme Ivan and Elf Kirill and in all honestly, I really like the default eye size. You can find pics of both boys together at http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98173
I am going to change the angle of Ivan's eyes though. the Pupil is almost under the eyelid. Otherwise, for me, I think the size is right. I think if an eye is partially closed like Ivan's then there wouldnt be any white on the top or bottom. Depends I guess on the look you're going for. To see the human equivelent if its the look you want, look in a mirror, close your eyes part way and see how much of the pupil, whites and iris show, on the top, bottom and sides. Then check how your Kirill looks when he comes.
Doc heads are small. I could almost fit my leeke sized leeke wig on Kirill (very close). But I was surprised to find that the Ivan's Doc wig fits perfectly on my Soulkid girl head. I dont have a soulkid wig but if their heads are that close in size, then I would guess that Souldoll wigs would fit too (they are almost always sold out though).
I only have DOD shoes so I cant comment on other shoe companies but will be watching closely.

I did a comparison of the resin color today (with my dolls' spare hands that show their original color as I haven't used them much). I "named" them by the month each doll was ordered:

The pinkness is even noticeable in real life... so I really don't think you could match an older head with the new resin. x_O; The pinkness really isn't exaggerated.

 

Really, DoD newest normal resin looks pink. My Ducan appears pink next to my friend's Lahoo from the first fullset batch.

I guess DoD will release Petsha in both skin tone. FYI, the new white skin is indeed very white. Yes pure white, no trace of yellow/pink tint to it as I can observe with my naked eyes (not as in I have perfect eyesight).

BTW, more information of Petsha will be release on 20th Nov Korea time. From past experiences of the Elf boys release, I suggest doing regular check on the site on that day since you will never know how DoD will attemp to sabotage the customers this time.

Ok, I was wrong about her being taller. She's still a 41cm shorty.

She wasn't what I was expecting, but she's still really pretty. She still has a more mature look than the other DoC girls.
It would be cool if they released Elf Petsha as a standard edition, but I expect that it's a mistake that she isn't in the Limited section.

Does anyone know what clothes would fit by the dimensions listed? Some one had mentioned that Tonner Harry Potter outfits would fit a 43 cm doll so was wondering if it would fit petsha.

 

Eyes:

Basically, the 16mm are bigger and they take more space in the eyehole. Both looks nice, it's just on the user's preference. The bigger eyes look really cute but the smaller eyes look really handsome on him. XD And, when you position the eye a bit upwards (like what most users here like to do), the 16mm doesn't look weird, unlike the 14mm. However, if you like to position the eye dead-center on the hole (like me... >_>), the 14mm is better, in my opinion. XD

Shoes:

Well, almost anything that fits MSDs fit DOCs. I don't know what happened with marsh's friend but my DOC's feet fit in the Dollheart shoes and boots that I bought him when I went to Hong Kong. @_@;;;

Wigs:

I have 2 Dollheart wigs, 3 Luts Kidelf/MNF wigs, one BlueFairy wig and his DOD Default. All of them are a bit loose on his head. It'll stay but without using anything to help it stay on, any big/sudden/fast movement will usually make it fall off. @_@ This happened to me a LOT when I go to malls and I already lost a couple of wigs due to my carelessness. Hehe... (But I just can't seem to make myself put velcro on his head... ;_; ) My favorite is actually from a shop here that's size 6-7 but the wig cap's made from a stretchy fabric. It fits quite snugly on my DOC's head. XD (Unfortunately, they closed their shop already. TT-TT) But yeah. Preferably, get 7-8.

 

@ Yenna - bwahaha~ x3 DoCs have wide duckfeet like me! I remember seeing a comparison image of different dolls and their feet and yeah o-O they do have suprisingly large feet. You'd think that would ideally give them better standing abilities though
Thank you for the info! Leeke wigs aren't as evil as they sound then... I'll wait to make any buys though from them. When you get those SOOM eyes in, I want to see! x3 I'm now quite tempted to get a nice pair of green or aquamarine eyes from them.

@ Selmada - ah- I've seen your boys before ^^ I'm often looking at the souldoll site for eyes (I just recently was able to buy a pair in the market ), but perhaps I should expirement with the wigs too! I'll give it a try when he arrives and I get the feel for his styles. I've got some well-priced eyes from the market in both 16mm and 14mm so I'll be able to switch back and forth if I'm looking for a particular gaze from him ... though 14 is looking better and better to me xD; Thank you so much!

@ asphy_xiation - O_O U~! *grabbyhands at* That looks like a large enough size for him and he's not even a tender D: but yeah, looking up, he'd probably have alot of white showing... but- tis true enough for human eyes as well xD; right? So pretty o_o; ... and silicons! very nice~ the 16s do well too. I think I'm going the right way with using both sizes then ^^ As for wigs, I saw dollheart used a DoC for modeling the wigs, so I'm not worried there xD I'm thinking of a different style though that they don't seem to have >> tis a shame. Wigs worry me the most atm because I'm always thinking they will be too big on him and look silly! xD I also want him to have hair strands before his ears to simulate sideburns/normal hair growth and larger wigs (or wigs that are too too small) will create a spacing that won't allow for closeness to his face. Am I right in saying so?
I will remember to go a quest and learn of this thing called moleskin! >X So my behbeh's hair will not fall off!

Heya! Can anyone tell me what shoes work for DOC? I got a pair of boots for my Too, and they're too small, lol! XD I want to order a pair from Luts, but I don't know if MiniFee or Kid Delf shoes are what I need. Please let me know!

 

Mini Fee shoes will be too small, but Kid Delf shoes should fit.

 

DoCs have very fat feet. We found that it's kind of a hit and miss type thing with shoes for DoCs. Some Doll Heart shoes fit, but I found that we had to actually physically try them to see. Slim, tight shoes probably may not fit.

 

Soom 14mm neongreen in my TenZen. They're so much better than the 16mm on her 'cause she doesn't look so tired anymore.

 

You'll find it in the orthopedic section of supermarkets and such. Normal people use it to line their shoes. ^_^;

Yenna - you have such a pretty girl.

 

Eyes: My Kirill wears 14mm eyes - he came to me with 16mm and the iris/pupils were so big it made him look crosseyed. ^^;;; I'm sure if you play around with the eye positioning, it wouldn't be so bad, but if you find the default 16mms aren't working, then definitely go for 14mm.

Shoes/Clothes: MOST of the time I can trade clothes and shoes between my MSD sized Kid Delf and my Kirill - it works better with clothes than with shoes. The two little ones share a pair of Dollmore sneakers, so those work for sure. :3

Wigs: 7-8 is what I stick my Kirill in. If you can't find moleskin to keep the wig from slipping, though, I highly recommend putting a rubber band around the doll's head. :3 It's easy and it works remarkably well.

 

in my (admitedly limited experiance) masterpeice eyes tend to have much smaller irises than other eyes, so I think 15 would be more of a difference than you might think

I have 18mm and 16 mm btw, and my 17mm masterpeice eyes have smaller irises than both

@ lindsayscorner - I think velcro would work against me like it always does x3 so I'm thinking I'd stay away from that option. It's good to know it works for some at least though I suppose :3 lol. Oh~ ^.^ those eyes look good too. There really isn't that much white space when the eyes are positioned upwards.

I managed to work on the two while I was at home, and I found out that some 16mm eyes fit very well and others don't. The Tender Too's eyes were hard to set, but I was told to measure with a ruler and to also see how the light shined off of them to make him look straight.

The Poshdoll MSD wig, with a little moving around, fits much better and actually looks very good. For the BeeA though, until I play around with the fit, she wears little crochet hats to keep her 7-8 wig on.

I was also playing around with shoes, and a pair of Angelregion platform boots seemed to fit Yuli with absolutely no problem (even though they aren't suppposed to fit him)! I didn't play around too much with them because I felt guilty taking one of Val's shoes and not putting another pair on her.

Also, sorry to be asking this, but do Dollheart shoes fit the male dolls? There are two contradicting answers up there.

 

They do. At least the new-ish shoes do. I have two pairs and Mizya has three and they all fit just fine. They're actually loose in the way that they're really easy to take off and put on.
I haven't tried boots, though. But if they're about the same size as 'normal' shoes, they'll fit as well.

 

I just tried the "Revenge" Dollheart boots on my Guardian boy. They fit fine. Tighter than on my DZ but still normal.

I'm new to DOC, so while browsing through their website, I found it very interesting how they had all sorts of relationship among the dolls, like Petsha being the sister to Duncan and all.
But I'm confused...

I-ra is the swordslady (I think she's gorgeous... sooooo tempted!), I know who Ivan and Kiril is....... but not sure about the description of the silver haired guy that Petsha saved in I-ra's paragraph...... Then, there's that Elf Duncan...... he's supposed to be love with the sister of Aren, correct?

Sorry if I'm asking about the trivial stuff, but I'm really interested in stories like this! Would love it if someone could tell me the whole story... and... if can paste a pic so I'd know who is who...

By the way, has anyone got I-ra? I'd love to see pics!
And... though I don't think she's involved with the story, any pics for Leya?

The sister of Aren is Shall. Aren is the city, or country, I guess, that alot of their story is taking place. Shall is a nun, so she is the sister of Aren. x3

The silver haired man who saved I-Ra must be Sha.

Its all very confusing because Sha is in love with Shall, Duncan is in love with Shall, I-ra WAS in love with Duncan, but now has feelings for Sha, Petsha loved Kirill but Kirill loves Ivan!

Its a hundred love triangles all at once. xD

The positions of eyes weren't so good, so I replaced them. DOD's putty is too oily for me , so I used hot glue instead of it. I'll take photos of her and post here later~ She's lovely

 

Is it just me or are her eyes a bit sunken in? Maybe it's just the angle. @_@

 

I've been noticing there's something abit off with the eyes too with the owners pics I've seen so far. Maybe it's being exagerrated with the camera angles

 

I tried to post something on this last night, but I guess it didn't go through!

Anyways, from what I've observed, DoD tends to put eyes in their dolls about 1-2 sizes bigger then they need. Perhaps to give them a more sweet, innocent appearance.
It's possible they don't entirely fit as well as a smaller size would.
I would love to change my Twing-Keys eyes, but her headcap is held on by the jaws of life, and I don't want to break her. But yeah, she's got the same deer look, though I still love her. XD

 

It's not the large eye look that's sticking out. I wouldn't call it a deer in head light look. More like a stoned out look because there's a gap between the eye and socket. I'm wondering when I get mine if using an eye sizer would help improve the fit.

Reminds me a bit of the fit one can see in soomdoll's Asil.

I still think she has a lovely face sculpt and body. But she may need a bit of internal sanding to get her eyes to fit. I'll have to see when I get my own doll

 

hm using paperweighted eyes can help with that sunken in look, and if needed slightly smaller eyes (like Soom eyes or something). If she looks stoned or like a deer in headlights could be a couple of issues - positioning of the eyes is usually the issue or you might need to swap out for a differnet colour/kind of eye. I generally like acrylics or glass with some patterning to them or ones that look more realistic (glasstic is pretty nice).

Ladylenneth, once I get the one coming to me I'll try out some different eyes and get back to you on which look the best, sizes etc
