DreamHigh Studio Discussion Thread - Part 3

Nov 4, 2023

    1. Hi friends, and DreamHigh Studio lovers!~
I am hoping to continue the discussions about DreamHigh Studio dolls, as we seem to have run out of room in the previous thread. (I can word that better, I’ll edit it later…)
I would love to continue to talk about the lovely dolls and continue to share photos. Let’s keep it going! Share your dolls and house elves!

Also, I was wondering if you all have stories for your dolls, and if so where do you share them? Do you find that they are received well? I am going to share my story next year. So far, I am thinking Tumblr, or Instagram, but I would love some input.

    2. I have my Dream High Studio Moley as the character of Moley in Kenneth Graham's Wind in the Willows! I also have the little yellow mole girl, Roley, so I added her to my stories as Moley's cousin. I've made three books with Blurb and given them to my grandchildren! They absolutely loved the stories! They're on my Flicker site under Janet Linn Flickr!

    3. That’s lovely! I adore that story.

    4. Oh, I’m so glad this Part 3 thread is here! I love my DHS dolls! I have an Alfredo house elf and a Daisy house elf (who are grandparents to a Pocca and a few Tonner Amelia Thimble/Hamish kids). Have any of you with house elves had luck finding shoes? Are there other tinies that have a similar size foot? I bought 3 pair from DHS for Nickelby (Alfredo), but somehow they just don’t look right on my my sweet Holly (Daisy)… I’d love to find even a simple ballet slipper, slide, or maryjane style for her. I tried making sandals for her and failed, so hoping to get ideas here. Thank you!

    5. I got an email from DreamHighStudio that said they are discountinuing the house elves. A shame, but I understand! There is quite a large house elf range, what else would be left to do? I can understand perhaps the inspiration for that particular kind of doll is no longer there. There's a few dolls on the site that can still be brought (I got one of the Ying/Yang dolls), and I think there's an offer of getting a mirco bjd with them but it's not on the site, only the email? So no idea if I will get this offer, we'll see. I think I got the last Yang though (one with hairs), as they're sold out!

Good bye house elves! Still some of my favourite little dolls. I'm a little late, but I enjoyed putting all my little elves in their Christmas jumpers.

Need to change them into their normal clothes sometime soon ;D

    6. I did finally give in and buy myself a Daisy House Elf, I couldn't miss the chance to own one.

    7. Ella_tron, I saw that message on Facebook and asked… here is the reply:

Hi, Thank you very much for your kind supports. We are just closing the existing house elf, not all the "future" projects :)

We're planning on marketing new 27cm house elfs, with jointed hands, perfected less floppy joints, etc.

The new 14.5 cm house elf will receive new update on the knee joints and thigh for better stability too. This will apply to all existing house elf that ordered in period of November 2023 to recent ones. The joints will have center axis that help the elastic tension pulling equally on all poses. I will make video of it next week

    8. That is certainly less dramatic than the "LAST CALL FOR HOUSE ELF" email that came through :XD:

Thanks for the update SkoozerBaru, I am intrigued by the new bigger elves? Bit conflicted on the updates to the house elf body though if this affects my order (which it sounds like it will...?). I'm always excited to see something new and like the idea of improvements, but the last house elf improvement was a bit fiddly with the addition of extra magnetic hands. Loved the additional options, but the hands do like to fall off sometimes. Though the suggested improvement does sound useful, so I have faith in the change.

      Mostly intrigued!

    9. She’s just as adorable in person! I have a Daisy as my Alfredo’s lovely wife. I’d post pictures, but I don’t have a Flickr or Instagram account yet.

    10. BTW, I LOVE the Christmas jumper on your Alfredo! Did you make it? My husband bought several of the outfits for my two elves, but I’m having trouble finding shoes for my lady elf (she’s a Daisy). Sigh. She just looks too dainty to wear my Alfredo’s shoes!

    11. I love the older dolls, Moley is so cute! Would love to see them if you have some photos :)

    12. LOVE Alfredo, I had the chance to buy a second hand one a year ago but didn't have the money at the time and I still regret it. He's def on my list of dolls to get! I agree it can be hard to find house elf shoes that are a bit more feminine, mine have been barefoot too

    13. what a sweet and silly looking guy! I've been really into dolls with changeable faceplates lately so he's definitely on my wishlist, though I might get one of the baby house elves? I need to decide soon before they sell out

    14. Thank you! I love the comfy Christmas jumper look. Perfect for the little house elves <3 I was incredibly lucky, and saw this at a Christmas fair. It was meant to be a bauble, but is a wearable jumper. I removed the string that was attached to allow it to be attached to the tree. I brought it with the elves in mind and was very happy when it fit! Just one of those lucky finds! I've not had much luck finding shoes to be honest :( All my elves are without shoes :sweat

Thank you, he is a cutie! He's got that sweet, but humourous grand father look to him. One that likes to play small pranks every now and then, haha.

The baby elves are so cute! I don't own one, but would be tempted to one day but may probably need to get it second hand one day. I like that they come with different faceplates, and would like to see more of the grumpy one. That could make for fun pictures.

    15. Ahhhh all the fb photos of mica and gabi are tempting me to get one

    16. My two little baby elves were totally enjoying their very first Easter....

    17. Look who arrived last week! I grabbed a Daisy at her last chance sale and she's here!
No wig or shoes yet and she's wearing a borrowed dress that's about pukifee/Lati Yellow sized from my pile of weird assorted commercial toy-market doll clothes, until I can get her the outfit she needs.

    19. I just purchased a 27 centimeter 'Larry' House Elf from fabric Friends and Dolls! It's the first time I've purchased a new DHS doll, though I do have Roley and Moley which I purchased second hand. I've been looking for an old/elderly doll for a while and I never realized until recently that DHS was now making 1/6 dolls! I loved all the little House Elves, but I wanted a bigger doll to fit into the scale of most of the dolls I already own. Does anyone else have a 27 cm House Elf?

How I feel when I get to take pictures of my Hana Ichi.

    21. I do, but he's not painted yet. I ordered mine to be a 'dwarf' companion to my MSD dolls to go out on adventures with them as in LOTR. He's going be too big to go with my other House Elves, except for the baby elves, but they've already been adopted by MSD size families. Looking at all my other House Elves, I wish they'd all been Larry's size. It's so much easier to dress and photograph, and they'd have fit in so much better with my MSD fantasy characters.

    22. OMG :o

I just noticed there's a thread for DreamHigh Studio.

DoA is literally where i started my Doll making journey

    23. I just saw your work, and it's amazing! Love the faces you make. :)

    24. Thank You very much, i really appreciate it

    25. Has anyone restrung the micros before? My Dotty's elastic broke and I'm hoping someone has some tips on working on a doll that small.

    26. You're going to want some very thin elastic. If you can't find any at a source like isewfordoll on etsy, Stretchy jewelry elastic seems to work.
You might also want some tigertail jewelry "wire" stuff that is stiffish but flexible, and you can use a long U of that to help thread your elastic through tiny parts. Very small hemostats also help. Other than that it's like a big doll but itty bitty.

    27. I just ordered myself a Mica/Gabi baby! The laughing face reminds me so much of my own son when he was small. And seeing all of @MB Lilac 's recent photos, I couldn't resist anymore!

    28. Congratulations! They are so adorable!

I have two of them and they are babies to my SartoriaJ couple Matias & Elf Agnes. The first one arrived first and was always intended to be their child, and was introduced as such back at Christmas, but then I needed a home for the second one, and in the end decided they needed to stay together. So Agnes went through a really quick 'pregnancy' so the second one could join their family as well....

    29. MB Lilac - Love the family!

I love al the DH tinys. Wondering what he has in stock for the holidays.

    30. Anyone have older DHS tinies to share? I just finished restoring my lilac skin Haru (too dark for photos now and I still need to do a faceup and make a wig for her). I'm super excited to share her, as one of the older tinies I think the resin used to be a bit more brittle? She has lost her headcap; has a broken hip, and completely lost her shoulder joint, along with a broken ear tip and thumb. With some creative sanding and polymer clay I managed to get her whole again and restrung her. I actually LOST one of her hand hooks for a second while doing that but luckily managed to find it, phew!

despite their fragile resin I really love Donny's older creations! They feel very special and alive in your hands

    32. Absolutely! All of us adore your work and love to share how we have been creative with the dolls you’ve made. I’m happy you found the discussion. As the third thread, it’s clear we all love DreamHigh Studio very much!

    33. I have Lily 27cm Elf coming from Fabric and Friends along with a outfit. Been so long since I ordered a BJD and coming here on the forum. Hopefully that will change.

    34. My Lily. I made her a wig and outfit, and enhanced her makeup a little...

    35. She is adorable!!!! That face is what got me to buy her!

    36. Thanks! I love Donny's dolls, and was so happy to see the larger elves. I have Larry as well, but haven't gotten around to making his outfit and wig yet.

    37. I would love to have all my resin kids here, but I live in a apartment now and the area is not a safe one. IF I win the lottery we are going to leave this place for a townhome.

    38. What size wig does the 27cm elf wear? Size 6-7 inch wig or smaller?

    39. Head size is 8 inch

    41. Such a beautiful scene, MB Lilac! Your toddlers are so very cute!!

    42. Thanks! I absolutely LOVE these two.

They are the babies in this family. Their mother is an elf, whereas their big sister is human like their dad...

    43. Thanks for the reminder about their big sister, MB Lilac! I have one Mica but she still hasn't told me her secret name yet. She sits on my monitor's table in front of me every day though.

    44. Love my DHS tinies. Here are my girls….have two boys too but couldn’t find a picture of all 4 together.

    45. I just ordered Catkin, I couldn’t resist!

    46. YAY! Also I forgot to post that I ordered the fullset of Catkin! His little faces remind me so much of my son, I needed him.

      • x 4
    47. I also couldn't resist the the fullset Catkin!

      • x 3
    48. I also ordered fullset Catkin. Are you all thoroughly embracing the character or will you try something a little different with him?

      • x 1
    49. Mine are always different but I love this fullset.

      • x 1
    50. Mine is going to be a girl! :) I plan to make her a dress out of fake flower petals, but one in good condition and another worn out, as she’s going to be a battle-hardened warrior pixie. Definitely inspired by Critical Role’s Thimble :3 I haven’t decided what sort of Hair she will have! Maybe a strawberry blonde, but we’ll see what strikes! Short hair either way ^.^

    51. I really like the character as created, I don't know if I'll do much different with him.

    52. Too late for the Catkin fullset, but I ordered the basic one. Love her many expressions!

    53. I have just discovered these dolls and I ordered a fullset Catkin. I think he will be a lot of fun!

    54. New Has anyone gotten Catkin yet? I saw one blank one received! :)

    55. New @InkNLionsTeeth , I'm still waiting for Catkin, but I ordered the full set. If they're sending out blank dolls, that's a good sign. I've done enough business with Dreamhigh Studio that I don't worry about wait times as I might with a new company.

    56. New I'm waiting for my Catkin full set as well.
