DreamHigh Studio Discussion Thread - Part 2

    1. Those are awesome knights, MB Lilac!

DHS had problems with their site yesterday, so almost everything looked 'Sold Out' for a while.

    2. @Lemon Balm Sprite - Thanks. Yes, I made their costumes. It's a ton of work at this tiny scale, and even more labour intensive that the bigger knights.

Thanks. Yes, but they got it working again. Either way I'm hesitant right now, as I'm finally working on six elves that have been waiting for some attention, some for almost two years. I'll see how I feel about Yin and Yang when their major preorder comes up.

I'm just happy there's an option to choose the old hands, and not the magnetic ones. I really don't like those. They are constantly falling off. Thankfully I still had a couple of pairs of the DHS articulated hands, so switched out Gino's magnetic ones.

I'm working on Archibald and had already switched out his hands for some articulated ones (because I don't care for the huge ones he came with) but didn't realize that he also had magnetic feet. Those drove me crazy falling off. I was making him some tights, and his feet kept coming off and dangling in the bottom of the tights. I finally got fed up and just glued the magnetic parts together. I can understand they might be handy for putting tight pants on him, but to me they are more trouble than they are worth. So I glued them. When I get to Daisy, I think I may just choose whichever of her magnetic hands I like best and just glue them.

    3. Yay I am glad that I will actually be able to get hold of Yin!! And when my wallet has recovered too...

Your Sir Nolan and Sir Gino are truely amazing!!

    4. I orderd Yin with normal hands, my alfredo has magnetic hands, they are so pretty and well manicured, but I hate them falling off. It doens't matter if you just take pictures with your dolls, but mine are always exploring my whole house, so I don't want parts to fall off:) Donny made it difficult to make a choice with 5 different dolls. I sold my willie and aldou and avery, but I am missing them.
Ah well I missed ordering Gino, but I think Yin is even better. I am not good with lady elfs, Nala has a special face. but I see her more as a male too:) My Yin is also going to be male I think ,or perhaps Yin is Yang too so perhaps male and female just what I want at that time. He is going to live with my rabbit in his hole.

    5. I agree. I liked all the different hand poses with the magnetic hands, but they just fall off way too easily. Like you said, fine if the doll is just going to stand on display, but a definite problem when they get photographed on location outside. I could just see them falling off and me not noticing until I get them back in the house, and then how do I ever find them again? So I'm very glad regular hands are an option.

I really liked Yin and Yang, but missed them this time. Oh well, there's always next time.

    7. A beautiful 3 generation family, MB Lilac!!

    8. Thanks. I thought it would be fun to make Phairby be Daisy's Mom, and therefor the twins' Grandma. I hope to make Avery & Emily little butterfly fairy outfits at some point, so they can go flying with their Grandma. It's just that there's a LONG list of other things I need (or want) to do first.

    9. love the world your bjd's are living in :)

    10. Thanks. My Elves inhabit the same world as my other, bigger dolls. They just live in a far away kingdom, but do meet from time to time...

    13. Such a dreamy scene! Perfect autumn colours. The details you get on their clothing is amazing. My favourite is the embroidered apron on Avery

    14. Thanks. But her apron isn't embroidered. It' was made from a floral stripe print...

    15. Congratulations on carving the pumpkins! It's an awesome picture!

    16. Thanks. It was a last minute effort on Halloween afternoon. I only carved faces into three of them, since I needed them for a photo with the two little kids...

But then, since I had the guts removed from the first three, I just went two further and did the 'carving' photos.

    17. Oh my bad! It totally looked embroidered to me. Still gorgeous with amazing details though. I should probably get my glasses prescription checked ;P

    18. I might have asked this before, so please excuse me and my momentary forgetfulness.
I have a Hana, and I love her to bits, but she doesn’t have any shoes. What shoes fit that sculpt?

    19. I'm hoping that my Hana arrives next week. Her foot is 3.3cm. My Realfees' feet are 3cm, so I'll be borrowing some of their shoes.

    21. Thanks! That was incredibly helpful. After a little bit of research, knowing the foot measurement, it appears that she’d fit into most Yosd sized shoes and boots. ❤︎

    22. The eyes look great! I know this post is well over a year old, but do you remember where you found them and what size? My little guy still has the default eyes. I'd gotten a green pair at the recommended size, but they were too big... and no white showed at all. Sigh.

    23. @SkoozerBaru , I believe I got the eyes in 4mm from this Etsy shop. There appear to be only three colors available right now. The initial photo says 5mm, but if you go to order them, the drop-down option shows you can get them in 4mm.

    24. THANK YOU!!! I'm not sure how to add pictures yet, or I'd post one for you of my little guy. :)

    25. I found a really good eye artist on Instagram. @dollines_com
She makes eyes as small as 3mm and I’m always impressed with her sparkle collection. My Hana Ichi has 10mm blue eyes from her, but I may size down eventually.

    27. Daisy arrived yesterday, with the magnetic hands, although I requested regular stringing. They not only don't stay on, they don't even go on -- they don't fit her wrists. I'm so disappointed, and not sure if I have any recourse.

    28. That's.... really disappointing. Do contact DreamHigh Studio about it. I've heard they've been good in the past about addressing problems.

I've found my elves to be really well made so far, but I haven't been able to get all of them (so many!) so perhaps I got lucky? I got the magnetic hands for Alfredo, and they were completely fine. They had magnets and a little resin tab on the hand, and a corresponding gap in the arm hole to lock them in place. Without that they could fall out with some handling, but no complaints for Alfredo really. I would have thought it would be similar for Daisy, so could believe that they might fall out easily with weaker magnets or less 'tab' structure. But if they're not even fitting in that sounds like a mechanical problem of the doll :/

Do you have any pictures? I'd be curious to see them. I love DreamHigh Studio dolls, but there have been some minor issues over the past couple of years (new elf bodies having thin resin, problems with missing parts, production times getting longer but probably covid related, etc). The artist usually addresses problems and fixes them, for example he made a form for customers to fill in to get their missing parts, sent out new bodies, etc. I would contact them about your issues. They're very active on facebook.

    29. Thank you for the advice. I'll try to get decent pictures today, although I struggle with posting them here. And I'll try contacting via facebook.

    30. I have the same issues with my Daisy. Her hands are always falling off. Just touch her, and they are on the floor. I wish it was possible to buy some regular hands to replace them. So I'm just going to choose my favourite of all her hands and just glue them permanently in place.

    31. Ah, that sounds like an immediate solution to my problem. (I think I'll dress her first.) What kind of glue do you recommend?

    32. I'm just going to use standard white glue. Hopefully it will hold, and at least it's removable.

I had the same issue with Archibald's feet falling off. I needed for him to wear tights under his tunic, and his feet kept coming off when I tried putting his tights on, and his feet ended up swinging loose in the bottom of the tights, so I glued them in place with white glue, and they've stayed on.

Magnetic doll parts may sound like a great idea, but I find in practice that they are a total pain. I have the same issue with my Whispering Grass character's tails. If the dolls only stand on display it's not such a big deal, but if they are actually going to be used in photo stories, the tiny magnets just don't hold.

It's one thing if their hands fall off inside the house, but out on location I'd never find them again....

    33. Same here. I can only ask St. Anthony for help so many times...

She is wonderful, and I'm so glad I got clothes for her! Here's a link, 'cause I haven't figured out how to post from my phone yet.

    36. So many great pics, especially your intricate scenes, @MB Lilac !

I really owe my poor Gino some attention. I just can't seem to settle on a look for him. Mechanic? Veterinarian? Warrior? Musician? I don't know.

    37. Thanks. Maybe all four? Start with a simple outfit (for musician), add an apron (for vet or mechanic), then some 'warrior' stuff for when he gets called to duty.

    38. That is a very good idea! Thank you!

    39. I love that idea to MB and Rosslyn! DHS makes some lovely leather bags for the house elves and one of them really looks like a doctors bag :)

    40. New little house elf arrived today! Jambo the house elf has joined my ever growing crew of house elves.

As always, he was very well packed in a cute little bag. This one arrived in a simple bag with an pull close opening, rather than the usual folding open type with tabs that open and are tied closed with ribbons.

He arrived in a box cover for different elves that were released at the same time, Yin and Yang. I was worried I had been sent the wrong one from the simultaneous releases, but luckily this was not the case. I would like a Yin and Yang one day, but I could only afford one at a time and I was pretty excited to get Jambo first. I just loved his little smile, as with many of the house elves from this studio.

I dressed him in a temporary outfit for now. I'm going to make him some comfy clothes, shoes and he definitely needs a hat!

His resin colour wasn't entirely what I expected. There's a lot of blue in it when seen in person which looks a bit sickly at first, but this doesn't show in photographs. Overall, I think it suits the little elf.

He arrived with several pairs of hands, as is usual for newer house elf releases. I think they fit very well, perhaps better than my previous Benjamin doll. They've not fallen out like my previous elves and the tabs that hold them in place feel more present. At the very least, the hands haven't fallen out while posing, so feels like a good improvement here.

He's got a very strong presence to him. His felted little eyebrows are adorable. I've been a bit quiet in the doll hobby for a while, but I definitely feel inspired again to work on things for him :D Very pleased I jumped into the sale for this one.

    41. [IMG] my Yin arrived, he is cute

gave him a little different face-up and eyes to fit the character I had in mind for him[IMG]

he fits in nice with my other ones, he only met the little realpuki for now, don't want to scare him with my other ones yet

I've made this little guy a shirt with rolled sleeves, and some unintentionally kind of Jazz Age trousers. I think next he needs suspenders/braces to go with them and hold them up.
This is the start of his base outfit, and first I will be making him into a little Magical Creature Veterinarian. Like a very very small James Herriot. I have plenty of fun animals to be patients of his in a cute cottage diorama setting.
(Do excuse the backdrop, that is the enclosure of my Blue Death-Feigning Beetles. If you look close you can see Timmy the smallest beeple trying to wave hello)

    46. Noooo I can’t believe the 5cm Mushroom Amanita was limited edition, they’re so adorable! Hoping they make more in the future? One can dream?

    47. You can certainly email Donny and ask; he seems like a very nice guy if very busy.

    48. Thank you I might try to do that or try my luck with any resellers they’re just so darn cute

    49. Anyone seen the new baby elf? Waiting to see an image next to another house elf before I decide if I'm in or not...
