So I just discovered Dragon Shell Doll - a little Russian company belonging to Balagur73. Here's her blog: @дневники — *** I stumbled upon DS Doll by accident and then had a lot of trouble finding information about it, so I thought I would share what I have found! It seems she has done 2 heads so far, both male SD heads; Snake and Dragon. They both have long removable elf ears, and they each have a mask (a snake mask and a dragon mask respectively). I love these high cheek bones and angry eyebrows, I'm always for huge elf ears, and the masks are super cool, so I feel like I struck gold. I was able to purchase her Snake head and mask, very excited! What do you guys think? Anybody heard of DS Doll before? I know there's at least one other DoA member who has one of her heads.
They are super cool! *bookmarks* However, until the doll is submitted for topicality with all the necessary information, we can't have a Discussion thread for them. So I will need to close this thread until further notice.
The artist has submitted 3 heads so far that have been deemed on topic, so this thread is being reopened.
Riiiiight? I've got a Snake head with the mask and elf ears in my possession now, and I just love him, he has such a unique and distinguished face. Still looking around for a body that suits him though.
Hello, everyone) I have two heads, Dragon and Snake. Dragon now is finished doll, and Snake wates for his body and horns (I ordered it in the end of spring)
This is probably a question for @Rook_Sever since I know you've done body comparisons, but I welcome input generally. Is dollshe/dollstown oriental or fresh the best match for dsdoll ns?
@rianne it's not so easy to say besause it depends. Dog's head is pretty close to unpainted oriental: DS Doll Dog (NS) on Dollshe David body L4 (oriental) by Rook sever, on Flickr And Ferret's head is a bit lighter, it close to (blushed) fresh: Spoiler: 2nd photo DS Doll Ferret (NS) on Dollshe Arsene body (fresh) by Rook sever, on Flickr I always prefer to choose a bit darker body and give some blush and texture to the head^^
@Rook_Sever That's super helpful, thank you! I'm the same way, much easier to blush a head to match a slightly darker body. BTW, your dog was what finally convinced me I needed a Ferret.
@rianne thank you! Pssst, it seems to be the new Ferret preorder soon^^ And Balagur is sculpting Gavin Reed now
@Rook_Sever haha of course! I already rescued one second-hand. XD I have to wait for the DT holiday sale to get my guy's body, so it might be next year before I can show him off too much. I'm excited to work on a head this realistic though.
@rianne wow! That's cool! Did you get LED or "human" version! Aaaah, I have to share it: I made photos with "Russian Cyberlife Tower"
@Rook_Sever He has the LED mod, which is more a novelty for me than anything since my guy isn't going to be a cosplay doll haha. I only do originals. Your photos are so gorgeous! Love the composition and colors here.
@rianne wow, sounds interesting! All Ferrets I saw before were cosplays, will look forward for yours! Thank you!^^
@Rook_Sever It is difficult with a face this realistic haha! The changes you can make are limited. Like, my boy will still be a pale freckled brunette for sure, but hopefully he can be his own 'person'. I wanted to thank you again for your amazing body comparisons. They really make it much easier to decide on hybrids.
@rianne oh, should be nice for this face! Hope to see your guy here soon! Thank you for appreciating this^^ I am happy that my photos are helpful
What size of body does these heads need? I really like the head Ferret (Connor), the artist told me she might do preorders again on spring. But I also like Dragon, Dog and the new pre order head Pitbull. Does somebody knows if the etsy store is from the original artist?
@MrFjmg2003 They requires smth between 68 and 75 body size. I have a couple albums with references: DS Doll Dog hybrids and DSDoll Ferret hybrids This is original DSDoll Etsy store: BJD heads, masks, swords by DragonShellDoll DSDoll heads made my 2018, and I am so happy - I already own Dog and Ferret and ordered Pitbull^^ They're awesome Btw let me share another pic of my Richard^^
I have Dog and Ferret, and I'm hoping to get Pitbull too. I'm debating whether I want him with LED or not, I love the little LED ring! I'm hoping to get a 'Snake' head too. I really love the heads from this artist - fairly addicted! @Rook_Sever Your photos are beautiful, always love seeing your dolls. I am also so grateful for you sharing the hybrid options. Amazing and helpful!
@ella_tron yeeeeah, the LED option is so way attractive! It was difficult to choose for me too^^ Interesting, what option will you pick And yes, getting heads and dolls from the artist is awesome - especially when the company has so wonderful box surface like DSDoll does Awwww thank you so much! I am glad to be helpful, and hope my photos will convince someone to get the head from DSDoll^^
I love these heads - ordered the Pitbull head yesterday. So gorgeous! Did anyone else? I also wondered if people order the masks? They are beautiful, but I do not know what to use them for...
Thank you for the info. He is so cool. I love Detroit it is such an awesome game. My favorite character is Connor. I think I will wait until the artist do preorder again for ferret head because I really want one. Somebody is sailing one on the marketplace but it is way out of my budget :p
@Cyador yay, me too! So many people in local community did! Yes, my hobbymate prdered a mask - not sure how will they use it, but yes, the masks are cool! I know that many people have and play with Dragon and Snake masks - perfect for shinigami or yokai. I also have cyber-helmet by DSDoll, use it for my military character: @MrFjmg2003 More Connors for Cyberlife Army!
I placed a preorder for Pitbull... it’s the first time I’ve done an artist preorder for a doll I really wanted! So glad I didn’t miss this one. I’m trying to sculpt a character of mine, but Pitbull is close enough as a stand in and then will possibly become the character’s brother. XD
Getting an artistdoll is something special - I hope you'll love it too Do you have a body in mind for him?
WOW! They are perfect! Both them and the foto! This company is new for me. I have seen Dragon couple of times before but company wasn't mentioned. Thanks for sharing. Ahemm...I'm afraid I'll turn into head-hunter. So many beautiful heads everywhere.
Thank you! This is quite old pic with Dragon, but I love it) Hiroyuki by Reinameron Vesper, on Flickr
The sculpt name is very fitting, he definitelly reminds me of dragon, so I really like your asian setting and atmospher of both of your photos. It suits him.
Does anyone know if the artist has talked at all about doing other (darker) skin tones? I have a boy in mind that Dog or Pitbull might work for, but he'd need tan skin.
@mosaicwolf You could always ask them. The artist is really lovely and friendly to talk to. I saw they had done a transparent resin head on instagram, so I asked them about it. They let me have a head in transparent resin too So I would simply ask and see what they say? I have not seen one in darker skin tones yet, so by default it's not an option.
Bump to tread My Isshin Snake finally get faceup and eyes from me Isshin by Reinameron Vesper, on Flickr
Is there a thread for her MSD options yet? I looked but didn't see one. I have always loved her dolls but shy away from SD so now that there are MSD options I'm excited to put dsdoll on my wishlist
So, I've been interested in getting a Snake for some time now. I've got an IOS 80cm body coming in, and he's one of the options I'm seriously considering for this body. Something I need to know before I make the leap though—would Snake look decently proportionate on an 80cm body, or would he end up looking pinheaded?
I'm gonna be needing Cat too. . . I've been seeing her on Insta and SHE IS SO PRETTY! What are your plans for yours? I am likely getting mine for the reshell of Charlie my red haired witch character. The cheekbones are just about perfect for the way I used to draw her.
She's absolutely GORGEOUS. I want her to be a character of mine, an empress! I'll be dying her in a deep brown, with golden eyes. Lots of gold accents in her makeup. I originally wanted another doll for her but I'm just so taken with Cat.
Oh my gosh she'll look SO AMAZING like that! I'm pretty much in the same boat with the originally thinking of a different doll but then CAT! I'm gonna need both the open eye and the sleeping heads for her of course. I love dolls that have extra heads or faceplates. Especially closed eye ones.
I don't actually have more room for dolls. . I get them anyway. . and make new shelves lol. I am waiting for my invoice then my Cat heads will be officially ordered.
lol that's one way to deal with it. I keep saying to stop growing my collection because some of my current dolls barely have clothes but there are too many good sculptors tempting me
I know it's seriously dangerous all the amazing artists I keep running into on Instagram. There are SO many dolls I want. Fox's handsome face is eyeing me too, though I will likely have to wait on him till a later release. I've got so many dolls and heads incoming and I need to find bodies for two of the heads (my Granado Mads, and the Meeksdoll Cain I've ordered) before I order more. Cat's already got a body lined up, so I was going to need a head for that body anyway. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. The numbers in my signature should give you an idea of how many I'm gonna need to find room for. . . >__<.
Oh my goodness that is a large incoming crew! I'm currently waiting on a Dollmore Dell and I'm planning for a body for my Ferret head. I got Ferret in transparent for a ghost idea (still need to finish face-upping him. My airbrush was being annoying and I gotta go back to it when I am not in an easily frustrated mood) and Alice Collections said Doll Family-H is willing to do transparent. My character concept included partially transparent clothes and I have noooooooooooo idea how I plan on doing that. Clear vinyl panels??? Sculpting him a head stand to 3D print in the meanwhile.
Ooh that sounds like a super awesome concept! The DF-H bodies look really nice from what I've seen too. I wonder if (using a well ventilated area and a respirator, goggles, and glovs) you could manipulate the clear vinyl with a bit of heat and stretching. . I haven't tried that before, but if it were a thing that worked, you could layer the non clear parts onto that and blend the fabric to the vinyl with paint and glue or what have you, then stretch the vinyl towards the edges to make it have a somewhat more. . wispy. . ghosty. . look. I don't know if that's the sort of transparent bits you're talking about. I'm gonna be putting my Cat(s) on a Dollshe 16f body I have (provided she looks proper on it. . . which I think she will since the shoulders and neck are wide enough, though the height is of course shorter than the Super Gem 65 she's shown on.) And then she will be getting some wild red Merida style curls with a white streak on the side. . and freckles. She's to be a reshelling of my very first doll, Charlie who is a witch with a talent for fire.
I'm debating on what color to order Cat in. I'm thinking white will be easiest to dye, but I don't know which body I'll get for her yet. Whatever pops up in my price range I suppose. So it could be in any color! But if it's a while until she gets a body, I might prefer to have her around in normal...decisions are hard! All I know is she'll need to be taller than 60cm and preferably have a nice long neck, elegant and graceful. @zekarmisama oooooooo transparent!! Be sure to post pictures!! I'm facinated by transparent dolls.
Do you have an airbrush? Cause you could always temporarily make a white head more alive-toned if you do. . . let us know what you choose! I ordered my heads in "Normal" since the body I'm waiting on for her is Dollshe Oriental. Hopefully I won't have to do too much shade matching in that case. Mostly I'm just too lazy to order more white airbrush paint for the shade matchies. . . maybe I should get some off amazon >__>. Too scatterbrained to do anything just now though.
No airbrush for me unfortunately! I'm probably going to flip a coin at this rate...and message someone on Instagram that dyes for some advice. I've seen that their NS does match Dollshe pretty well, so at least on that front you'll be pretty close! I'm really not concerned with matching colors too much, since my color perception is so poor I rarely notice the difference if it's a bit off. But I know other people notice that kind of thing so I want to have a nicer looking lady to photograph! I'm crazy scatterbrained too; I have to write memos that pop up on my phone to remind me to do anything.
I honestly can't wait to see what you do with her. I'm sure she'll be absolutely gorgeous! I think I've solved my space issue temporarily. I just got back from Lowes where I got myself a big old shelf to put up. That'll be used for the MSD sized dolls and then the big shelf will be for the 1/3 ones. . . which means I'll have at least enough space for the ones I've got now plus the incomings. . . mostly. There may be some still inhabiting the dresser once ALL the incomings arrive, but if I don't add any more, I should be fine. . . right? . . . Right?
Clear vinyl panels or sheer white fabric might also work. Sheer white fabric would give a nice ghostly look I think. Oooh, a head stand. I'm going to need one for my Ferret. I just ordered him.
Sorry to double post but can anyone help me with the LED light? I'm trying to find out what kind of eyes I need to use in order for the light not to shine through the eyes...or if there is a trick? So far I've tried resin and acrylic and they both shine through.
