DragonCon 2014 - Art show programming

Jun 10, 2014

    1. Hello! Its Buff! I saw a bunch of people last year at the Face-up panel and I would like to do that one again, though the presentation will feature a different doll, and there will be a free doll given away like last year too. But is there anything else specific that people want for a BJD panel? I did not do an introductory panel last year because it had been done by someone else in previous years, but I can do that, no problem, and combine it with a mini-meet or something.

      Panel Times:

Friday 1PM in Hanover G - How to Paint BJDs - This will be the face-up panel and there will be a drawing for a free repainted Monster High doll for the attendees.

Sunday 4PM Hanover G- Stringing, Sueding and Eyelashes for BJDs. - This will be hands on, with a discussion before-hand.

Monday 1PM in Hanover G- Pattern Drafting for dolls and custom figures - Interactive, will show basic shapes, ect, for making your own patterns.

Monday 2:30PM in Hanover G- Photographing your collection. This is a general photography panel for 'things you want to take a picture of'. Its not really about the art of photography, but rather how to take clear, nice pictures so that you can display and show pictures of your dolls that demonstrate how they actually look.

If you aren't familiar with that room, its the smallish room at the end of the Hanover Hall, which means that based on last year's attendance for panels, they will be full.

    2. With no replies, I went ahead and applied for the following panels and I will update with confirmation and times.

      Painting BJDs

Stringing, Sueding and Eyelashes - Hands-on so bring your stuff

Photographing your collection - Basic photography skills, dos and don'ts

Pattern drafting for dolls and custom figures

    3. Um I was wondering if you had to do the hands on stuff for the stringing sueding and eyelashes. I'm still kinda nervous about doing anything mod wise to my doll but I want to have some idea what to do if I ever have to.

    4. No one will be forced to do anything at all. But if you want to make an adjustment to your doll, I will be right there to help you. You'll want to bring your doll just in case. Once you see how easy it is, you might wanna give it a try. :)

All the panels were approved and I have times on Fri, Sun and Mon, so people should be able to make one or two.

    5. Hey! I'll be an attending professional at Dragoncon this year (animator)! I didn't even know there was a big BJD event going on there as well! The pattern drafting for dolls sounds awesome :)

    6. Updated with the panel times! Hopefully you can make the drafting panel if you are interested, Illyrimur. :) Now we just need to figure out when to have a doll meet-up! Following the face-up panel or the stringing panel would be pretty good, since people would already be grouped.

    7. Thanks for doing these panels, I'll definitely attend any that don't conflict with my schedule.

    8. I will definitely attend if it doesn't conflict with a few things I already have scheduled. Would it be ok for me to come watch even if I don't totally participate? I hadn't planned on bringing my doll to DCon as I won't have a carrying case until after.

    9. Oh yes, its totally fine. I figure probably it would be...1 of 10 actually doing anything, and everyone else just learning. I will have a presentation with photos before anyone starts working on anything, so that'll be helpful, regardless. Mostly the interactiveness is just to really encourage people to give some of these things a try, with the security of someone being right there to help if it goes wrong.

    10. Woohoo I am excited to go to these panels yay!!! Thanks for doing such a good job in hosting a meetup :D DCON is almost here yay

    11. I'm looking forward to attending some of your panels. I do a lot of sewing, but it's kind of made up as I go, so it would be nice to learn some proper pattern drafting. :)

    12. Where is this at? Sorry, new to the con world so my apologies if it is super obvious to everyone.

    13. Yay! Awesome then, I will try my best to be there. Looking forward to it.

    14. Than you for letting us know about the pannels. It will be my first time at Dragon Con because I´m from Europe and I am really looking forward to it. I think those pannels could be very helpful for me!

    15. Let's do the meet up after the face up panel! That would be 2pm on Friday right? We could meet at the Hanover room and then move to somewhere else as needed?

    16. No worries! You will receive a map at the convention that will help you get to the right places. But, basically, if you find the art show, there is an L-shaped hallway at the bottom of the stairs that get you to the level, and it has a title over the hallway entrance that says 'Hanover Hall', and its at the very end of the L, on the left. :)

    17. Its very crowded in the general area of Hanover Hall, so we will definitely need to move. However, right down the escalator, from Hanover Hall, I seem to recall there being a carpeted area to sit. But there aren't any tables or anything, so it would be more like...a Doll Picnic. Which I am fine with! :) Or we could walk further and go to the food court area for food and dolls.

    18. I love the idea of a doll picnic!

    19. Not sure if you're going, sadly I can not since I'm going to Dollism in Buffalo later in September, but DragonCon is held in Atlanta.

    20. Wow! I've been on the fence about attending D*C this year but all these great panels are starting to convince me to go!

All the panels sound great! If I'm able to go, I'll also just be watching this time. But it should be some good info for future projects. :)

Thank you for setting all this up.

      Shaze

    21. Is there an official thread for a meetup at DragonCon? I couldn't find one, hahaha. I'll be running around with Dr. Puppet crew so I don't know how long I can stay for the meetup, but I'd love to see people's lovelies! Since i'll be flying down from NYC I'll only have 3 dolls with me, and probably won't be able to bring them all depending on what I'm carrying around/doing that day. BUUUUT I'll have Chicken, my pukifee pongpong, a dollzone msd, and heavily modded lishe hybrid.

    22. That's a question I will second. I'm bringing a Vampire Shiwoo.

    23. If I am able to come, I'll bring my Realpuki Soso :)

    24. Anything going on Saturday?

    25. after the doll face-up panel tomorrow, we can go outside the Hanover Hall and down the escalator. It'll be an open area directly to the left, and we can just hang out a little while. As far as anything going on Sat, there are no panels for dolls, but I will be hauling Deadpool Doll around and dressing like Loki!

    26. I'm hoping you'll have more than just the meet today after he panel. I work until 3:30 today and would like to hit one....

    27. Events and the mass hysteria of the dealer's room (they call that improved?) conspired against me. Are there any plans for more meets?

    28. Sorry those who couldn't make it to the little meet! I'd have organized more, but I was pretty busy most days. :) Thanks to everyone who attended the panels and it was great to see Blakrose back in action introducing people to BJDs.

    29. I ALMOST went to D*C this year... Very cool to know that you're organizing panels and meets like this, Buff! I hope they'll be going on if I ever do make it over there! :)
