DragonCon 2013 Aug 30- Sept 2 - BJD-related Artshow programming

Jul 3, 2013

    1. This year I'll be an attending artist in the DragonCon Art show. I'll have 8 BJDs in the show itself. I won't have a table or anything so fancy as that, but I will be running a few panels on BJD-related topics. The panels will be part of the Art Show programming track, and not part of the Japanese culture track.

These are the times and locations:

Hope to see a few of you there!

Also I know there is usually BJD programming in the Japanese culture track. If someone knows those details already, please post them too!

    2. All sounds very exciting. Count me in to attend your panels!

    3. Dragon con is only 27 days away now. There will be a couple Doll panels this year ABJD Photography and Painting Ball-joint dolls. You can get more info on those panels on the silk road track website (http://silkroad.dragoncon.org/) Thus far there are no meets that I am aware of going on, however if anyone is planning any meets or would like to juet let everyone know and I will continue to update this first post as needed.

    4. Updated with the exact locations and times!

    5. I will keep this thread active!! Maybe we can find a moment to have a casual meet!! :)

    6. Very cool!

I should go to Dragon some year...!

    7. meetups are generally informal. Evening, around 9/10 PM is a good time most the days- most the guest panels are over with for the day by then. Marriott 10th Floor is the typical meeting place- it's where many indoor photoshoots also take place. But the elevators tend to be extremely busy (thus very long waits) and extremely crowded in the Marriott during the whole convention (except for Thursday night and late Monday afternoon).

Another, better option at the same time (9 PM) would be the food court area of Peachtree Mall- it's very convenient to 3 of the 5 host hotels, not far from the other two, and more convenient to the nearby overflow hotels than trooping all the way to the Marriott. (almost all the nearby hotels that aren't host hotels are closest to the Hyatt and Westin) By 9 PM the food court is no longer packed- so tables should be easily available (since many of the places close before 9PM even during Dragoncon). The food court may close earlier than 9PM for the Thursday arrivals (like me) since the con doesn't officially start until Friday.

So Marriott 10th Floor might be feasible for a 9PM meetup on Thursday. Ditto for the usual post con meetup (for those of us that stay over until Tuesday)- but earlier on Monday, everything pretty much wraps up by 5 PM, so around 6 PM would be a good time, Marriott 10th Floor.

    8. I'm in, either way. Just posted on the DragonConForums.org website about it, was hoping we could have some sort of meet up. Haven't heard much about it, but I am bringing up to 3 dolls and a body (friend of mine in another state wants to see my M-line MNF body, lol). If anyone could kind of cement something down, or at least give me some really good ideas of where to host, I'm more than happy to "host" a meet (I currently co-run a group of 170 members here in CO so hosting a meet of any size is not really intimidating for me, haha). But I've never been to D*C and don't really know my way around the hotels and stuff. Something easy to get to and easy to FIND are going to be the best options. Sunday afternoon/evening might be best, at least for me. :)

    9. Bookmarked you in my app! :)

    10. Unfortunately, we won't be there monday... which is when all of your panels seem to be. :(

However, I hope to see you around the con Buff! :) (We'll be there sat & sun.)

    11. Bookmarked on my app! Expect to see me and Evelyn at yr panels!

    12. I'd definitely be up for a meet! I'm bringing my Dollfie Dream to the con.

    13. I've been trying to get a ride from Northern Virginia and people to hotel with that's inexpensive. Although I won't be bringing my doll, if I get to go, I would love to attend a meetup.

    14. If it's just you I know my people are looking for one extra person Thursday through Monday nights, and we could prorate if you only wanted to stay a couple of nights. PM me if you're interested and we can work out the details I think. :)

    15. If you want to host Sunday's meetup sounds good. :) I think Peachtree Mall's food court would be a great place to meet around 9 PM Friday-Sunday. The usual informal style daily meetup where people come and go when it works for their schedule, with the meetup lasting about an hour- hour and a half. If you want to host it there on Sunday, there are long cafeteria style tables in one large area of the food court, which makes it good for doll meetups (as well as it's location being probably about the most convenient for all the hotels nearby people might be staying at.)

Like I said above, they might not have extended hours on Thursday like they do Friday-Sunday. And the hotel elevators in the Marriott on Thursday night around 9 PM aren't busy and crowded yet (unlike they are any time Friday-Sunday) so we could do the Marriott 10th Floor on Thursday, and 6 PM on Monday (the food court closes around 4-5 PM on Monday) a 6 PM post con meetup for the stay overs might be a nice way to wind down from the con before we have to pack up to leave on Tuesday morning.

    16. Well 9 pm Sunday at the Peachtree Mall sounds like a really good plan, and then a Monday afternoon/evening meet for those of us not leaving till Tuesday sounds great too. I'm pretty sure I have nothing going on in the evening on Sunday (I could be wrong) so I'll just pencil that into my app, and hope to see people there! As for Monday, if you think the Marriott 10th floor will still be open for us, that'd be great too. :) I can pencil in both of those and plan to be at both. 6 or 7 pm on Monday (or whenever people wanna show up) is great.

      So!

Sunday September 1st, 9:00 PM - Peachtree Mall Food Court
      Monday September 2nd, 6-7:00 PM - Marriot 10th Floor

Even if I'm the only one there, I'm still gonna have fun playing dollies, but I hope to see some of you there too!

      ~Shlee

    17. Like you'll be the only one there :p

I'm bringing my LTF and my Rena A-Line :D

    18. And your Juri '08 head on my m-line body. :P Gonna have my A-line Mirwen! :D

    19. And if anyone is coming in Thursday (like me) we could meet up around 8 PM (8 PM works out better for me, for Thursday) on the Marriott 10th Floor. I brought six of my dolls, trying to decide which two to bring to which meetup. Hope I'm not the only one there on Thursday!:) Definitely coming to the other two meetups as well, so you won't be the only one there Shlee. :)

    20. I know that there's a Cosplay Deviants meet up on the Marriot 10th floor at the same time, which I'll be going to, but I can bring a doll and maybe stop by and say hi. :) Huzzah! Will be nice to meet more dolly people! I'm looking forward to this weekend for sure! :D

    21. 8pm on the 10th floor of the Marriott. I can do that. I did not bring many boys this year since I do not have a panel, but I will bring what I have.

    22. I'll be getting there around 7:30 PM today (Marriott 10th Floor) in case anyone gets there a bit early.

    23. Might be late. Eating now.

    24. I'm on the MARTA. Have to stop at registration and pick up my pass first. Will stop by if y'all are still there. Headed to that spot for something else anyway. :)

    25. Bookmarked! I plan to attend at least one panel!

    26. Sorry we missed each other on Thursday. Hopefully we'll have better luck for the Sunday 9 PM meetup at the Peachtree food court. :)

    27. I'm excited about Sunday's meetup! I neglected to check the site for meetups before we left or I would have been at the one last night too! I'm bringing my girl Einin who is a ElfDoll Lydia, and my tiny Resin Soul Yu named Liel. This is Einin's first trip :D Liel goes everywhere since he's so tiny!

      Can't wait!

    28. Will see everyone there!

    29. Planning on attending the meetup on Sunday! WOOOO See people there too!

    30. I may be there with megarathewarrior, we're in a condo and not a host hotel, so...maybe? :) I'll bring my Volks Misia and Lati L if we go.

    31. Sounds great! Getting ready to head over to the peachtree food court now. I'm cosplaying as Tsunade and have my Naruto (he is a Souldoll) and Sakura (she's an old style Customhouse Ai, with an Obitsu Haruka head) in a stroller. (Those that have met at conventions have probably seen my Tsunade cosplay with these dolls)

    32. I am here wandering with a Loki msd in hand and doll bag on back

    33. Spoke with two of the other three people who made it to Sunday's meetup. Both are leaving early and won't be able to make it to the 6 PM meetup on the Marriott 10th Floor. If anyone else wants to go to the meetup there I'll go over, but otherwise we'll just cancel that one.

    34. I would have joined you tonight, but I had post-con things going on at 6. It was nice to (I imagine) hear/see some of you at the BJD painting panel. It was all I had time in my schedule for, but it was nice to be near other doll people! I don't know any others in real life.
