Dolpa 16 Discussion Thread

I'm on the East Coast, and I fought the tide to get Kurt on Friday night (only to find that he's STILL in stock). The charge was already taken out of my account when I checked this morning, and wow! With shippping, Kurt cost me $575. In the VolksUSA lottery, Kurt by himself (no shipping) was $650. I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the exchange rate. So don't fear shipping costs from Japan; you may actually save yourself money.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'still pending.' My credit card is actually a debit card, and when I checked my bank account, the money was no longer in there. So I should hope that it was finalized.

 

I checked the AE this morning and was surprised to see that Kurumi and Anne said "some items are only purchaseable in limited quantities" instead of "sold out" like Amelia and the others. I thought they were still in stock for a second but no, you can't add them to your cart, the quantity selector is grayed out. What a dreadful tease!

 

A dreadful tease, indeed! (Not that I could afford another Kurumi, but that's such an awful, mean thing to do to people. XD ).

 

Has Volks released an actual shipping date/ approximate shipping date for the AE dolls? *is waiting on pins and needles*

 

I had the MSD Sweater, Scarf, and Skirt & some other stuff in my cart confirmed and once again the cart is empty. Someting told me to just buy it then and not worry about saving on s/h.

Piccolo's outfit kept showing up as being in stock on and off from 1am to 6am.. but never Anne's.

 

Any idea which will ship first, the VolksUSA dolls or the AE clothes? Would be nice to have outfits for Anne and Piccolo to pop into right when they arrive. XD

 

Volks will ship the AE outfits via EMS, so we should have them this week, in plenty of time for them to be waiting for your little ones.

Man! I'm jealous! I just called my bank...because apparently they put a hold on the payment for one business day. *annoyed* I'm hoping it goes through easily (whatever the deal is) and I'll be welcoming a tracking number soon...like tomorrow! Congrats!

Yeah, my husband thought I was being a neurotic twit when I called my credit card company immediately after getting the confirmation email - and then I was so wound up, I couldn't remember the last 4 digits of my social security number! But I wasn't taking any chances - I had her in my cart 3 times and had their server crap-out on me and not even let me back-up and try again. My husband's the one who finally made it through the checkout. I'm still not really gonna believe it 'til the box arrives and I've got her right here in front of me!

i was wondering for those able to order outfits, was there the option to order more than one of the same item (as in quantity selector not grayed out)? i'd like to know for future happenings.

i didn't try for the clothes because shipping would be too high for just one outfit (yo-girl coat set) but learned a couple friends were also interested after for the same thing. i did stop by on whim to see but majority of everything was sold out and kept getting nothing but error pages so i couldn't see if the option to buy more than one was available.

 

We haven't recieved a shipping number conformation email yet for my Mom's Kurt. We got the original conformation after she placed the order but haven't heard anything else since.

Oh wow, the AE dolls ship fast! I hope all you lucky people who got your dollies that way will post lots of pics for the rest of us!

And Kurt is just SO cute, if I didn't already have an SDC boy I would've pounced on him. Quick, everybody buy him if he's available! XD

 

I'm almost feeling bad I didn't wait for the after event for Kurt. Since lottery shipping takes longer... I ordered sanding though so it's worth it I think. *has developed an unnatural hatred for seam lines*

I'm really looking forward to pictures from other people.

 

I'm innanely curious; did anyone from this forum win an SD Kurumi from the After Event? o.o Just wondering if I should be keeping my eyes open for more Kurumi pictures soon or not. :3

 

I was successful at ordering Kurt during the After Event. This morning, I checked VolksJapan and it appears Kurt is still available. Out of curiousity, I tried to order a Kurt, but received a Volks' system response, below.

I ordered a Kurt first and then later on managed to snag an Amelia. I've received the shipping notice for Amelia and she should be here tomorrow. Still no sign of Kurt. Not even a payment confirmation. I sent an email to Volks and they say I did indeed order him and they will get to my order eventually.

 

It's funny the doll that's out of stock is getting to you faster than the one that is in stock, Julia. XD I haven't gotten charged for Kurt yet either...I wonder if there's a general lag with him. o.o

 

Congratulations Julia Please Spam the crap out of us with amazing pictures of your gorgeous Amelia.... I have one coming too, but she won't be here until the end of Feb.... I'd love to finally see Amelia in all of her defaults

Why are AE dolls shipped before the VolksUSA ones? Anybody who got clothes from the AE get shipping info yet?

 

VolksUSA dolls are pre-orders -- AE dolls are in-stock. There are less dolls for AE so the chance of getting one is much lower, but if gotten, they ship immediately. Whereas you have a much greater chance of getting a pre-order VolksUSA doll as they will make many of them, but you have to wait longer for them.

It works similarly in Japan -- out of the people who attend Dolpa on the day, a very small number take home actual dolls, and a large number of people take home 'pre-order tickets'. These people have to queue for the entire day to get these tickets, and have to wait months for the dolls, but they have a higher proportionate chance of definitely getting the doll if they queue up on the day at Dolpa. At the AE, each store gets a certain amount of stock of the dolls again, and if you get a good lottery number on the day of the AE, you can take your doll home that very day -- but you have much less chance of getting the doll before they sell out, and there are no pre-orders.

IMHO, AE is sort of a last-ditch effort before hitting the 2nd hand market. I've won dolls at AE before (even queuing up in Japan and getting a fairly crappy ticket of 64) but I don't rely on it. Getting in on a preorder is way prefered, despite the wait.

 

Thank you so much for that detailed explination Cassiel I was wondering the same thing.... It's nice to finally know why..... But yeah, I now see why AEs are such an nightmare... This AE served as a learning experience for me. For the next Time I'll know what to expect a little more.

I think I ended up with FOUR separate AE orders, just to get everything I wanted as they went mysteriously in and out of stock

 

Wow, If I would have been able to do that I would have.... But hey, Like I said, A very good learning experience.... Just really sucks that I had to pay an arm, a leg, and a kidney for the doll I wanted to get from the AE

AAKKK, the DoA site decided that I am my daughter today. This is actually Sheri writing this post.This gets so confusing and fiddley to change so I am leaving it for now.

I am in total shock. my Amelia came today!!! The AE was on the 20th and she came on the 24th!!
I thought sure my package from Volks would be the clothes & boots I got on the 21st, but the postman carried out a huge DOLL BOX!!!
We unwrapped her in the car - too impatient to drive home first.
She is incredible, so graceful and the KIPS makes her very nice to pose. The high heels are a challenge in carpet though. Emily is in the next room taking pictures as I write this.
I will try to post some later tonight.She is very smooth, no seam lines to speak of even though I didn't get the sanding service.Pretty excited here!!!

I have 1 order of Piccolo and 1 order of his outfit. No sign of payment confirmation (or a charge on my credit card) on either order but the orders are listed in my account history when I log into the Volks international website. Guess I just have to be patient

 

I ended up getting my Anne outfit from YJ.. and a few other goodies.

I so wanted to get a Williams, but must stick to budget.

 

I have been charged a bloody USD48 for Customs and handling fees!~ Just for the SD16 h.Naoto outfit!

Now I'm worrying the two packages from AE will also get taxed (since Volks declares full-price......)

Come hell or high water, Amelia was going to have all three dress sets and all three pairs of shoes (the boats looked fantastic in the promo pictures)! *laughs* At least now she'll have a wider selection to choose from when it comes to dressing for her time spent at the NYC Dollpa this summer

 

LMAO that's always my Matto for what I DESPERATLY Want.... The outfits are amazing though, Thank the lord I managed to get mine during thier Anitial Thanksgiving day release though... I got all 3 too.... I think my SD16 girls have the Widest selection of clothes from any of my girls... Most definitely the widest selection of shoes I'm such a sucker for those Ankles... Finally Ankles on a BJD it's a beautiful thing

Oh they are beautiful ankles too I will try to get some leg shots of Amelia tonight! We tried some SD 13 girl clothes on her last night/this morning and some of them do fit!!!

 

My SD16 Amelia will also have the widest selection of clothing from which to choose... one of these days Carol will need some shoes! *^^*

 

Just got the shipping information of the YoSD outfits. It says they are still in Kyoto. I'm really happy they will be coming soon. Hopefully Anne and Piccolo won't be long after.

I got a shipping notice for the passion dream set I got the first day of the AE and then a separate shipping notice for a pair of shoes I got the second day. Unforutunately, one of the tracking numbers says not found and the other says Osaka. Uh oh...

I also got a payment confirmation email for an order I don't recall making, so maybe they finally charged me for the H.Naoto outfit I won in the lottery?

 

My SDC Kurt arrived today! Very exciting. He is my first SDC boy. What a great body to pose. His scuplt is really incredible.

Anyone hear anything from Kerby Lane or We Love Dolls yet? I'm suspecting we'll probably be the last to get the dolls.

 

If you ordered from Kerbey Lane or We Love Dolls, you'll probably get them at or around the same time as those who ordered from VolksUSA do. That would not be uncommon. My understanding was that they would be in country toward the end of February or early March.

 

Oh my! I got dolls in the USA Dolpa and I haven't heard anything regarding shipping yet...

 

Volks USA wont ship untill mid-end of february, or if you chose satogaeri services mid-end of march

Mine is also not updated from Osaka for my one item, but my other tracking number still says not found. That sucks, they were supposedly shipped at the same time.

 

Bizarrely, when my Kurt shipped, the page didn't update from the Osaka location forever. Then all of a sudden he was at JFK and had cleared customs. Then a few hours later, he was delivered to my house in Buffalo 8 hours away. Heh, so...don't always trust the tracking page.

 

OT but, Junkets, you live in Buffalo? I used to live near there! A little place called Elba. x.x

Anyways, I am hoping that there will be an update by Monday... although I was really hoping they would be here by Monday because that is the only day I will be home to catch the mail. x.x

 

My family lives in Buffalo! Ok, not Buffalo proper, but Depew. In the zoo there, my grandfather painted some of the murals in the reptile exhibit. (I don't know if they are there anymore, since they were talking about repainting) He did those back during the depression through the WPA (yay New Deal Programs!).
