Dolpa 16 Discussion Thread

Nov 15, 2006

1. 85,000 yen* :sweat got scared for a minute. She's more expensive than the normal SD10s like Carol or Kira-SD, but she's still cheaper than Shinku was. The fact that she's designed by Ciera makes me think she really might is tied Tony and Hewitt. Also makes it seem like a good chance that she was sculpted by Ohashi since he did Hewitt too.

2. OMG she is so pretty.
I hope we don't have to wait a long time after the Dolpa 16 to be able to order her thru volksusa.

Geri

3. Only one doll so far, though there have been hints there will be more. Wonder how long it will take to come out with the others...and if perhaps the Thanksgiving Day special on the US site might leak out a little more.

There is that TINY part of me thinking that if they are going to release a bunch of SD16 clothes, that they kind of need more people owning them so that they will sell :D

4. 85,000 yen? DONE! I must own this one, no matter what.

So...is it Dec 24 yet?

5. Hmm...well I suspect she will be more like $850 on the Volks USA site. Other Dolpa girls in SD10 and SD13 size seem to be around that price. I am sad though because I bet so many people will want her that a lottery will be held on VolksUSA :(

6. Oh man.. Why must Volks make me question my dollie purchases?! :(

7. Um she's 89,250 including tax, and since you can't get her without sales tax... yeah.

8. Yep, that's what the picture says. :fangirl: Doesn't mean that she ISN'T 85,000, though. :fangirl:

Anyhow, she will be more expensive than the other limiteds if she makes it to Volks USA. Probably around $890 or $900 even, since they tend to take a 100 to 1 ratio on the price. :/

I'm trying to figure out my dollie and money plans right now and see if I can somehow afford her by the first After Party, IF they choose to not make her a Dolpa only limited. @_@;

9. I'm assuming a bit above $900 since Mimi-SD was 78,750 yen but $825 on VolksUsa, meaning, the mark up isn't the 100 to 1 ratio.

10. I am ordering from the international volks site for sure!
Do you think there will be new models?
or re-releases (praying it is jun because she is kinda punk-ish)

and does the international site have a dolls party page up?

11. No the english Dolpa page isn't up yet.

12. Keep in mind that while the international site doesn't have the VolksUsa mark up that you will be paying a lot in shipping, probably at least $45 to bring Kurumi home. There is also far less competition on VolksUsa for dolls, you are competing only with North American continent owners, the international site has every other continent's people ordering from it.

13. Actually, even though the EMS shipping is expensive (around $70+), every single LE doll I have bought from international site (this would be at least over 5 dolls over several different events) has been significantly cheaper than the VolksUSA site. I always save $50-100 from ordering through the international site, go figure.

14. I agree; for me to have bought Carol (assuming shipping was 5200 yen, which was what Kun cost me when I bought her there) from the international site, it would have been $800 or slightly less, and this was assuming the yen exchange rate was 112 or 114 to the $1, when the rate was actually 118 to the dollar. :/ Edit: forgot to add that Carol was $850 on the VolksUSA site. :P

It seems like sometimes Volks USA takes the price and adds EMS shipping cost to that, and sometimes they just take the yen price and turn it into USD. :/ I prefer to order Internationally anyways, because they ship EMS and not UPS.

15. *gasps and squeaks* YAY!!!! Now I just have to save my money and wait. And decide which site to order from ^^;;

16. I agree that ordering on VolksUSA will give me a better chance. On the international site I think you have to reload constantly as soon as the doll goes up and I'm afraid my internet connection/computer wont be fast enough. If I can't get her at VolksUSA I guess the international site will be my backup since isn't that usually later then when the doll is offered on VolksUSA?

17. Gah! I have put off posting here! Oh no she is a SDish sized. Momoko needs that outfit Kurumi is wearing, anybody wanna do a split ^o^

It would be amazing if they made a Yo-SD outfit, I think I would die if they did (they probably wont) I really like the Yukinojo >.< I think I might have to try and get it.

18. You will likely be willing to find someone who will split. Gothic Lolita isn't everyones thing. ^^

19. I'd definitely like the wig if you just want the outfit and someone else just wants the doll! :)

20. There is already a dealer at Dolpa/Doll Show who specializes in H. Naoto style outfits for Yos. ^^;; They call themselves "N. Haoto"

[IMG]
One of their displays.

I agree, because of the $ to yen it is always cheaper to buy from Volks International than VolksUSA when it comes to getting dolls, I just find it's much easier to buy from VolksUSA and generally if I want a LE, I am willing to pay for the convenience. ^^

21. I'd totally be interested in just getting the doll (especially if I could get the wig, too - or if someone would sell me the wig seperately ^^;;; ).

But yea, she's so cute. >.>;

22. Yeah, abut the international page, how long does it usually take for the after party page and all dolls to get up for sale?

what was the reloading comment about? reloading to see when they post up the dolls??luckily I got dsl, so I can reload really fast =^^=

23. reloading so you can hit "purchase" as soon as it comes up because once it pops up for sale it will probably be gone in under 1 min.

24. Doesn't the After Party usually take place the weekend after the Dolpa? I'm not a good source for that, but it's usually not long after. ^^

25. I might be interested in just the doll too. I'm not much for the gothic/punk stuff, but her face is cute.

26. Kurumi is cute, but I'm glad I don't want her, however yukinojo's and tony's outfits I must have.

27. yeah, I really dont want kurumi, but I am hoping that jun will be re-released. I reallly want her so I am praying she will be out

28. I want Kurumi bad~~ and honestly, it's not worth $50 or so to me to risk not getting her in the international sale (the mark-up's going to be waay more than that if you don't succeed). Especially after the horrible stressfulness that was attempting to get Chinatsu and then failing because the value for Chinatsu and Kuuta was mixed up. I pressed the back button and spent the next month regretting it! :( I have her now, and got her for a good price, but at $75 more than she retailed for, even w/ volksusa's inflated prices.

Hopefully US dolly companies will offer pre-orders again... I would assume volksusa would've said in their announcement if they were only going to be for sale though them (like they did for Olivia's new outfits).

29. Now that I've calmed down a little... :sweat I guess I was a bit hasty to assume that Kurumi would become a standard Super Dollfie. All of the standard dolls have simple, one to two syllable names, and Kurumi is almost too adorable to be a standard. :chibi I figured that if she was made a standard, she wouldn't be released with such a lovely dress. But I can dream and pray!!! :eusa_pray

I love Japanese Lolita fashion, but usually I lean towards Gothic Lolita or Sweet Lolita. I never liked Punk Lolita until I saw Kurumi. So beautiful and cute!!! :love Oh, Volks! Why must you torture my heart?? :atremblin It's so wonderful that Volks is giving us a chance to own such cuteness!! :cheer Especially a collaboration with h.Naoto!! :D

I just looked up "Kurumi" in my Japanese/English dictionary. It means "walnut"! :o I don't know why, but it suits her perfectly, don't you think? :chibi Such a cute little walnut! :whee:

30. That would be really cute :D but I believe since her name is written in hiragana, and not with kanji, that it doesn't actually mean anything.

31. I am ECSTATICALLY happy that I don't love the h.NAOTO doll. Looks like I won't be taking a dive into the poor house anytime soon! I get nervous each time Volks announces a Dolpa though =__=;;

Oh, I forgot to add - There are more pictures of Kurumi and of h.NAOTO's collection (modelled on a Tony <3) on his blog. http://www.s-inc.com/news/h.php?itemid=4583

32. I think the point is that they didn't come in very detailed outfits designed by big names in the doll industry. But who knows?

When I was at the Harajuku Volks, the only comics I saw were on product shelves and were directly related to the product shown (LOL Tony blushing Hewitt's cheeks all rosy and girly!), but I may have missed others. I was probably too busy staring at the Hewitt they had balanced on Tony's shoulders on one of the display tables <3

33. Volks writes "初回限定版" (first edition, limited) at the site. So I think Kurumi will come limited edition with h.NAOTO outfit at first & next she will be a new standard... ? How do you think? :D

34. WOW , that would be nice!! Then all of us don't have to sweat then:fangirl: :fangirl:
I hope she would be a new standard model !!!!

35. Volks writes Kurumi are sold at Dolpa 16 and at AE as limited edition, but at the same time I can see she's a "first edition, limited" (like as Yori & Kun) on web site.
Their explanation is not clear~:sweat

36. Thank you, ria_ria. :fangirl: I was wondering what the site had to say about her, since my husband (who's near fluent in Japanese) can't read kanji. ^^;

37. Wow if she becomes a standard that'd make me so happy, it sounds almost too good to be true :sweat

38. You're probably right, but I just couldn't resist posting it. :) Just the sound of the name "Kurumi" seems to fit her so perfectly. :chibi Volks really does pay attention to every tiny detail! :thumbup

I hope you are right ria_ria!! :D I want Kurumi sooo badly!! :love I'm sure that Volks doesn't want to give away too many details just yet. :eusa_sile Lets keep hoping!! :eusa_pray

39. That's sooo cute. :D That makes Kurumi from Kotetsu Tenshi Kurumi (Steel Angel Kurumi) even more adorable than she already is. XD That's all I can think of when I see the new dollie girl, though it's not a bad thing. ^.^

Even if she isn't going to be a standard, at least knowing that they 'plan on' releasing her again is a good thing. Though if they made her a standard, they'd probably make a lot more money. ;3

40. I'd prefer to get the doll and the clothes, but worst case, I want the clothes. ^_^

41. I want Kurumi so bad T_T She will be my next doll for sure! But most likely not at the Dolpa since I just bought a sexy new computer xD; So I hope she will be a new standard too! Or at least rereleased soon :3 Or just not super limited so I can get her later...AUGH she is so cute.

42. ;0; Kurumi~ shes so adorable... I MUST have her... hopefully I can sell enough stuff by december 24th... T_T;; I'm actually shaking.. O_o; wtf?

43. The Japanese write out words in Hiragana all the time :/ Like "Momo" (peach). I've seen people write out their name in Hiragana or Katakana before. Also if you read song lyrics, a lot of times they won't use kanji for the words, sometimes to give the words more than one meaning (but sometimes I think they are just being lazy).

44. I think if they made Kurumi a standard model, I'd have to be making some room in my house for a girl doll. >___<~! I think she's adorable and a collaboration with h. Naoto is just to die for. Volks, how you slay us... and yet, how I love you so. xD

45. Oh Volks, you hurt me so good! xD;

46. Oh man, there are very, very few volks molds I actually like but Kurumi is like D: the ultimate LOVE~!! I want her so much. I would totally settle for just the doll and wig, although I love h.naoto and it's exciting to see this collab!!

I told myself I'd never do fcs ;p but if she became one of the option heads (yeah right T_T when pigs fly?) I'd queue up asap :fangirl:

47. I am aware of how often Hiragana is used to write out words, especially if the kanji is obscure or not commonly used with the name they have. But this is not Volks having a casual conversation with us, it is them telling us her name.

On SuperDollfie.net on Yuri's page her name is listed as this: "子天使「百合（ゆり）」" the first kanji says "child" (ko), the second two "angel" (tenshi), the third and fourth "lily" (yuri), clearly they want us to know that she is a child angel (like Tsubaki) named Lily. If they had simply written in her name in hiragana like they did in the parentheses to show us how to pronounce/read it, then she would not be a child angel, she would simply be a girl named ゆり.

I believe that since Volks has dolls with names in kanji, hiragana, and katakana, that the ones in kanji are the only ones with meanings. It is obvious they show us how to pronounce the kanji names in parentheses, so why would they make Kurumi's in hiragana if they could have just given her the kanji name and the pronunciation after it?

I still think "walnut" would make an adorable name, (and Cammy don't think I'm trying to yell at you for saying it is her name, I'm just trying to explain how Volks uses names), but for it to actually be her name it'd have to be 胡桃, not くるみ like it is on the page. There are also other ways to write Kurumi as a name: 菓, 久留見, 久留三, 久留実, 久留巳, and several more. Meaning, tons of people say their given name as "Kurumi" but they all use personal kanji.

If I've gone wrong in my thinking, then I apologize for writing all of this, and would appreciate it if someone who's taken Japanese, or is fluent in it, please point out why I'm wrong, because I'd really be interested to know what exactly I've misunderstood.

48. well whatever her name means it still is cute!

I like her, but I dont like her.... I think it's because she really looks like my little sister.
The resemblance is scary.

Its hard to choose because I want a doll that is cute, but not one that looks like my sister. >_<;

49. Any word retains its meaning, no matter how you write it in Japanese xD! Some real japanese people write thier name in Kanji, and some in Hiragana. Its more a stylistic choice than anything else :) It also opens the name up to more than one meaning. Its like writing "Rachael" or "Rachel" or "Rachell" they are all pronounced the same, and they all mean "little lamb" (or whatever varient your name dictionary has).

I can mainly think of musicians and actors who write their name in Hiragana as opposed to Kanji. Just check out Japanese cds or books.

And yes, I studied Japanese for 2 1/2 years in a university setting. That really wouldn't give you any special knowlege of names, or 99% of the way people actually speak! LOL

Also: A lot of japanese characters have more than one meaning, so even if the gave characters/kanji for the name, it wouldn't necessarily pinpoint the meaning more specifically.

50. Don't worry, I'm not upset at all! ;) No matter what her name means (if anything) it still fits her perfectly and she's still beautiful. :love I wish I knew more about the Japanese language, myself! Who knows, maybe Volks spelled her name that way so every owner could come to their own conclusion as to what it means. :) Now THAT would be creative! :thumbup

I'm still trying to figure out what I would name her if I was lucky enough to own her! :blush I've narrowed it down to Kaede (kah-eh-deh) "Maple", Naomi (Japanese version: nah-oh-mee) "Above all, beauty", or just stick with Kurumi, because it fits her so perfectly! :chibi I like the sound and meaning of Naomi, but I'm afraid that people will get it confused with the western name (NAY-oh-mee) since they are spelled the same way. *_*

*Sigh* I guess saving up and waiting isn't the only doll-lover's stress!! :wiggle

51. In regards to Kurumi spelled in hiragana:

It could also be like Volks saying that she's a cute little girl; because little kids don't know how to write in Kanji yet. ^^

--- Hehe, hubby (my japanese speaking dear) and I are looking up the kanji for Kurumi. There's apparently only one kanji that fully means Kurumi: 楜 - which means Pepper.. I know there's one for Walnut as well, but I looked over it on accident. ):

Here are other kanji for Kurumi and their meanings (I'm giving literal meanings for each kanji, unless I can logically make a meaning structure from it):

久留三 - Old story, stop, and three
久留実 - Old story, stop, reality/truth
久留美 - Old story, stop, beautiful
久瑠美 - Old story, beautiful, lapis lazuli (or The story of a beautiful jewel - just for fun :3 )
玖留実 - Beautiful black jewel/nine, stop, reality/truth
玖留美 - Beautiful black jewel/nine, beautiful, reality/truth (or Beautiful black jewel of truth - just for fun)
玖瑠実 - Beautiful black jewel/nine, reality/truth, lapis lazuli (so... Beautiful black and blue jewel of truth? XD )
玖瑠美 - Beautiful black jewel/nine, beautiful, lapis lazuli (or maybe Nine Beautiful Jewels?)
胡桃 - This one is easy, it means 'Foreign Peach Tree'

That's about it. There are a LOT more kanji that use the hiragana of Kurumi (I guess sort of like Furigana?). I mostly picked out the ones that specifically used Kurumi type kanji. Please note that I do not know much about translating, so my English phrases for the names are just for fun. ^.^

You can see where I found this information for yourself at http://www.mahou.org/.

I had too much fun doing that. XD

52. Can little kids afford h.NAOTO? :sweat

53. :whee: if they have nice parents they can! I have seen little kids in h.NAOTO once, it was really cute.

54. Haha! I was going to say, 'That's like asking if little kids can afford BJD's.' ^^; If they have nice/rich parents, or are very frugal with their monies, then yes, why couldn't they?

55. I think h.NAOTO has a childrens' line now. I've seen it called Qupid H, but I'm not totally certain about that.

I'm still really excited to see the rest of DP16's limited items! I wish Volks would be nice and show them to us already, instead of drawing it out and making us crazy with anticipation. :D

56. There are very few Volks models that I like....

Kurumi, however, is just too adorable to pass up.
:D

I love the h.NAOTO line, so that alone has me calculating how much money I will have by the 24th.

With any luck, I'll have enough.

>;]

I'd like to know everyone's opinion though...

Should I buy her from the VolksUSA site, or the international site?

Which would give me a better chance?

57. To be honest, from what I've seen, it appears to be easier to get her via VolksUSA during the lottery. The majority of peoples who have entered into a lottery have generally gotten the dolls that they wanted. The only issues that I've heard so far was in getting Chinatsu and Kuuta, but there were issues in the After Event, also. If you don't get her through the lottery, there's always Y!J and DoA, after all.

58. I see.

Should I try the After Event if I don't win the lottery?
