I am so amazed by these new flower dolls (planthros, we've started calling them) that I had to start a thread. :3 Aside from the sheer daring of casting those flower petals - I'm terribly curious about what process they are using for those - I love the rendering of the human parts. Hips on a boy body! So lovely! Here's Moment: www.doll-zone.com And Anson: www.doll-zone.com I'm really looking forward to seeing what members do with these dolls! I will have to enjoy them vicariously for now. ...mod note... Beautiful piece of work indeed; DZ (and DC) is showing that there are still a lot ways to go. Having DZ Fairy, I'm tempted by those two planthros as well. Maybe next year if I finally move out. Their 'preview' was displayed at DP6 in Hong Kong in July this year. Although their 'old style' dolls were not bad, I really like those 'new style' ones.
They're tall mini sized dolls! Moment's webpage Height(Including head):53.5cm (not including head):40cm Neck size: 7.4cm Shoulder width: 7cm Arm length: 35cm Chest Size: 18cm Waist size: 15.5cm Hip size: 22cm Thigh width: 12cm Leg length: 24cm Foot length: 6.3cm Foot width: 2.4cm Anson's webpage Height(Including head):50cm (not including head):38cm Neck size: 7.4cm Shoulder width: 6.5cm Arm length: 35cm Chest Size: 16cm Waist size: 13.5cm Hip size: 21.2cm Thigh width: 11.9cm Leg length: 23cm Foot length: 6cm Foot width: 2.4cm
First off! I so want Anson and am struggling to collect funds. She's so stunning. Second, DC is a DZ sister company? Is this confirmed??
I think they have 2 sculptors... one who made these new dolls and ( I think) also the fantasy gift dolls before them, like the little dragons and the flower fairy and Doll Chateau dolls.. And another one who makes the humans(?) I really don't think all of their dolls are from 1 person, especially if I compare some molds from their lines and their general details. v_v;; But if not, the sculptor clearly got insiperd...and better! *^* Agreed with the comment on the waiting... I wish I could just order him right now. Shoot the layaways and oct releases *peers in LLt's direction* >__<
Adding hands may be feasible. Per DZ assembly photo there is a common s-hook, so it could be just a matter of finding a suitable size. DZ offers MSD size hands separately; the jointed ones are only available during some special ordering times though. (From DZ: link)
From the looks of it, if one just left off the last petal and instead replaced them with hands it would be easy enough to get to work.
I took a look at the hand parts that DZ sells separately, but not being at all familiar with DZ, couldn't determine whether they could be ordered in white. I think this pair would look lovely as a replacement for that last inner petal piece. And if you were doing an actual flower, you could paint the fingertips to look like stamens.
St. James, all Dollzone hands are available in white skin I too decided to order Anson, I fell in love with her body and I kinda like her face, too. I plan on making her human arms and I already have one extra pair of white DZ girl hands which I will give to give my Anson.
I've decided on an Anson in yellow skin. I was looking at a site for wedding flowers and I decided to base my planthro (great type name) on the orange ranunculus. Mainly I chose the color because my collection leans heavily towards the cool colors and I need something bright. I'm including the link to the flower site I used, even though they don't have lots of flowers, since they did this really nice thing and divided the flowers by color. http://www.weddingflowersbyheidi.com/flowers.html
I got a Dollzone Yuu in yellow early this year and it is very yellow. I was disappointed because the older yellow skin hands I had were a nice buttermilk colour and being older I expected them to be a bit darker. He quite honestly looks jaundiced - I asked them about it and I had to get a replacement part for his shoulder and it was just as dark. I would describe the colour as yellow tan - I thought they had given me tan by mistake at first
Oh well I don't mind having to string them. It would probably be hard with all those petals not to have one or two snap in transport. I'd much rather have to string them than have to wait for replacement parts anyway
I'm very glad to hear these two will be shipped unstrung. There is just no way those petals would arrive intact otherwise!
Oh man I just saw that DZ offers free 1/4 human arms when ordering Moment or Anson during their Christmas event!! Good that I hadn't ordered yet lol. I wonder if they'll be new sculpted arms?
I just saw these dolls for the first time today. I am trying to decide if I want a full set with all the painting or get Anson blank and do it myself. I am not a faceup artist but I am very fussy and can do a half decent job if I try. I did the Flower fairy one myself awhile back and I like mine better than the painting they did. I wasn't crazy about the face they did so I made mine more dramatic but human (kind of) The problem for this one is Featherfall doesn't seem to have Anson blank, only Moment but they do have the full set. I don't have an airbrush but I did the Fairy with pastels effectively. I think I could do this and then I could change the colour. The eyes is the only thing I am wondering about. What kind of paint did they use for the curly thing under the eyes. I am not sure if I would want to attempt that because it would have to be done after the blushing. I would probably omit that part. Plus there is that gluing on of the jewels. Also the stringing - I don't think I could do that. Too scary. I could order a blank from Denver doll but last time I order from Dollzone, Featherfall was faster plus I am in Canada. I think I will sleep on it. I am thinking this would be a nice big sister for Flower Fairy. If I got it as a full set it would be all done and pretty but I think doing it would be nice and have more meaning. Funny enough I don't mind it blank either until I decide what to do. If I decide I can't do it I could always send it to someone who is good at this type of thing. My dolls don't have stories, I get them just for the look, kind of like an ornament except for when I change clothes, wigs, etc. I would like to sew a nice outfit for this girl kind of like the one they have except use some of my antique laces and fabrics. I know I am going to be dreaming of this girl all night. I really should NOT be buying anything. I have got so much lately from Rosen Lied. What to do. Has anyone received their yet?
Shashy - You can just use either metallic acrylic paint, or use pearl powder with acrylic medium. For the jewels, you can use normal white glue, or carefully use hot glue, or if you want, some thick acrylic medium does well too.
Thanks Invie - I am thinking I could do pastel blushing on the bottom of parts and then do pearl powder on top and up a little so it is more defined. Lots of possibilities. I can't wait to see what others have done that actually know how to do this better than me. Probably the most thing I am nervous about is putting the darn thing together. I tried to take hands off of a Dollstown doll to get her huge hands through an outfit and couldn't. I had to undo the bottom of the sleeves in the end. It was safer for me since I had visions of the hands breaking. I am still thinking if I really need her but I think I do. I will decide in a day or two. I am waiting for Featherfall to get back to me to see if I can still get Anson blank. Still undecided on whether or not I want her blank or full set. I think she is really different. Usually my BJD are hidden in my office but this is one doll I could put in the dining or living room as a conversation piece. Just have to be careful of the light. I hate that part of this hobby.
I ordered my Anson in October and I was expecting to get her in a couple of weeks, but to my surprise, she arrived today! She came in a huge box, with lots of packaging material inside. I don't think I ever saw so much packaging used only for one doll. Every doll part was packed really well and very careful. Nothing broken or damaged (that was my greatest fear while waiting for this doll) I'm so happy right now! She looks amazing, so beautiful and unusual. And all those petals! They are just a miracle. I don't know how Dollzone manage to cast these, but I'm sure there is some magic involved The only minor disappointment are her petal-ears. The magnets that hold them on the head are not very strong. But other than that - she's perfection
he's here! thread - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...lots-of-pics-nudity-dollzone-moment-and-fenyo
i did get eyes - he came with very lovely blue glass eyes, but i took them out when i strung him because the stems of the eyes got in the way - his head is actually quite small (without the flower part i wouldn't be surprised if he took a 6.5 to 7 inch wig - it's a lot smaller than a "normal" dollzone mini head) i also think he may need his eyes beveled out slightly more. i also did a photoshoot of him today - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?491102-aphelion-(nudity-dollzone-moment)
Stringing really isn't that hard, especially if you have the right tools. I unstrung and restrung my first doll the second day I had him just to get it over with and was worried for nothing.
i ordered mine in white, he just looks darker because i have bad lighting in my apartment and all you need to do to string is just the arms - but the head is held on by a large s-hook and the inside of his head is quite small. the back of his head and "ears" will fall off easily too - they're only held on by weak magnets and i'm trying to figure out how to better secure them... so definitely be careful with them! i've had the back of his head fall off several times just from turning his head ever so slightly. i'm planning on having my boy sit most of the time because even with a stand for him, i'm not sure how stable he is because he is very top heavy.
That makes me feel better that all we have to string is the arms. It does worry me the head pieces are falling off. I wonder if the pieces are so heavy that any magnet wouldn't work. Maybe they should have used larger magnets. Anyways I think mine will be staying in one place mostly and I will make sure I am careful when carrying her around that her head pieces don't fall off. We wouldn't want them breaking. I have tile floor in the kitchens and bathrooms and that would break them for sure. I think the people that already have their dolls should e-mail DZ and tell them about this problem. Maybe they could find a solution and send new magnets for the people that already have their dolls and fix the problem for the people that don't have their dolls. It does sound like there should be a solution. I don't want my doll dropping body parts as we walk. I think I will do like darkmothflame and have mine sit. Maybe I should look for a really nice lounge chair for her. I do already have a nice formal chair like a dinning room chair with arms and that could work as well.
the magnets are both small and weak and i'm trying to figure out if i can get them out to replace with other ones or not.... as to the body - it's really no different than any other body (well, other than beautifully sculpted! ) it poses pretty well (the arm petals do have their own limitations though). it might not be super flexible like an active line mini-fee, but i think it moves really well ^^
not meaning to double post, but i've started work on the marbling for my boy.... i had intended to do a black/white marble for him but when he arrived i felt like he needed to be a blonde or gold marble instead. it's very subtle right now and i intend to go back with some water color pencils to create the more definitive cracks. (believe it or not, this is already after about 3.5 hours of work..... i expect several weeks to finish this guy)
I wouldn't mind the eyes a little more open, not too much, but would never attempt it myself and I don't want it enough to spend the money to have an expert do it. The head would be so expensive to replace if it was ruined. (don't know if we could replace just the head) I am looking forward to blushing it but I will need to buy that sparkly stuff. Volks has SHINE PEARL, would that be the stuff? I have regular pastel chalk and also some sparkly stuff from Luts but it is the wrong colour. I have never used it though. I don't usually do my own dolls but I want to try with this one. If it turns out ugly I can always send it away to an expert. I probably should have had Dollzone do it but I have never been impressed with their painting. It is not bad but not exceptional either on the dolls I have that they did. It seems like they don't take the time to do extra things but the painting they do do isn't bad. This is just my opinion, I like detailed colourful, very well done faceups. You know the people that you can never get to do your dolls what with long waiting lists.
Er...I stalk the thread lol but have no plans for these guys yet only because I have a bunch of incoming dolls including a Jeremey. As for eye opening, they are one ofthe easiest mods provided the original sculpt doesn have crazy eyelids which cam look weird if the eye opening isn't done right. I've opened eyes once and it was super easy the first time. Granted I sculpt and whatnot so it wasn't something I was unused to. The eyeshapes for moment and anson are very easy to open since they don't have deep pronounced eyelids. PoeticSoul- yes that's the stuff. You need to mix it with clear varnish to get the shimmery design they have on the default. You can also use pearl ex powders. Same thing and more colors.
Hey everyone! I am need in some help, could someone with Moment please measures their boy and see what the measurements are? I'm mostly interested in the Height without head, shoulders width and neck size! I'm considering buying this body and doing a hybrid, but the measurements of the doll itself and the measurements of the body conflict with each other...Thank you for any help! EDIT: Comparison with MNF or other MSDs would be awesome as well
Invie - it was me that was asking about those powders for painting. The ones by Volks come in the little bottles called ZM Shine Pearl. I had thought I could just put some of it on by itself for the body and add it to varnish for the lips and that curly line under the eyes. Are you saying that they have added varnish to the whole thing for the whole body? I looked again and you may be right. I won't be doing that if it is that way. I think I may do her a little more subtle than what they did. Now what do you mean by "ex powders". What is the brand and where do I get it? I just don't know a whole lot about this. By the way I looked at your profile after you said this and saw the faces you and done and they are awesome. Very impressed by the eyebrows. I am always impressed by anyone who can do good eyebrows. There sure are some talented people here in this thread. I am glad I am getting my Anson after everyone and not first. I need to learn a little from you guys. I am not saying I am totally hopeless but just don't have the experience you all here have.
Hi! Ah for the pearly sheen on the body blushing they got, they achieve that by airbrushing very fine pearly powder mixed with paint. It's really hard to achieve that same look without airbrush. You can try burnishing the pearl powder into the skin (rubbing it in with soft rag or a brush) and spraying with MSC. Repeat until you have the desired pearliness. This can work to get a similar pearly body look but it might take a lot of layers. I've only done it a little to get a bit of glow but not that kind of pearly sheen. I don't own the Volks brand powders, but the pearliness works best if the powder is super fine. For Pearl ex powders look here at utrecht art. I own the 32 color set and the variety is great to work with. You can dust it on and spray with MSC for more subtle look or you can mix with varnish and paint it on for a denser effect. Whether it is pearly or sparkly depends on the powder you use and they have a mix in the sets. I hope that helps EDIT: Also notice that the pearly parts of the body are not matt. When you spray the matt MSC on the body it dulls the pearl down. You can purchase MSC in satin (in between gloss and matt) from hobby stores online but most doll places that carry MSC carry the matt variety. Sometimes I like the doll less matt and will use the satin on top of the UV cut.
Invie - I went to that place you linked me to and the larger set and one of the smaller sets were on back order. So I did some searching and found a store in my city, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. One place had the big sets at $79.95 so more than the web but another place didn't sell them in sets but had them individually at $2.75 each. I can go there and then pick out what I want. They said they had 40 different colours. I will do that maybe tomorrow. I am so excited now. I wish Anson was here now but it hasn't been that long for me. I must be patient which isn't easy for me. It is nice people are starting to get their Anson and Moment though.
Lol, Shashy, I'm glad I could help. For me I was interested in garage kits before dolls so I read a lot about painting and getting different effects. I also tried it out on my own faceups. I don't own an airbrush either but my friend is letting me learn on his when I have time. I wont be getting moment and anson but I really like how they look. I just don't have the room for them. I will be getting Jeremey tho so I will be using a lot of pearl ex on him lol. If you want anson or moment pearly all over you can completely coat him/her with the pearl powder mixed with clear varnish. Some ppl might do that.
Thanks for the pearl ex tips Invie! I have some already and am glad I can just rub them on with my fingers and not have to use the varnish. I'll just use MSC to seal it (matt finish). I'm going to use stencils so I can mix the pearl ex and chalk pastels together. I'll have to do some experimenting during the wait. Oh, and would you know of a good brand of chalk pastels that won't fade with MSC? I have a great set, but the colors do fade the next day after using MSC. Not really bad, but noticeable. Maybe I just need to do an extra blush and seal again?
Well, I went shopping today and bought 18 different pearl ex colours waiting for my Anson to come. Found them at an art store here in little bottles. They had 40 different ones and I managed to get just 18. My husband was with me and if he wasn't I probably would have come home with about 30. They are so pretty. I probably could have got about 6 and had enough. I think I will paint my DZ Deer girl who came with bare unpainted legs which was a surprise because DZ showed them painted. It will be practice for Anson. I am thinking I will do the pastel method and then put this pearl ex on top. Not sure. That bottle of paint stripper will probably be well used to redo and redo. It will keep me entertained until Anson comes. Now I am planning on opening the bottles and see what I have. They look like they are 1/4 full. Should be a fun evening. (I must be easily amused. I love painting and fabric supplies)
I was hoping the only Moment owner could help with me with the measurements, but I guess no luck! Doll-zone does sell the body seperately - as shown here. And as I mentioned before, the measurements of the full doll and body differs from each other, so that's why I'm asking for someone with the doll to kindly provide me with the exact measurements. Measurement for the full Moment doll from DZ: Height(Including head):53.5cm (not including head):40cm Neck size: 7.4cm Shoulder width: 7cm Measurement for the body only from DZ: Height:46cm Width:7cm Neck:7cm So is the body 40cm or 46cm without the head? And is the neck 7cm or 7.4cm?? I'm confused.
okay, i got moment's measurements: height without head - 39.5cm neck - 8cm waist - 15.5cm hip to ankle (outer leg) - 24cm crotch to ankle (inner leg) - 20cm neck to crotch - 14cm chest - 17.5 cm thigh - 12 cm ankle - 8.5 cm foot length - 6cm let me know if anything else is needed
This is the doll-zone photo of Anson with human arms There's more closeup teaser type photos on dollzone's site under parts http://www.doll-zone.com/pro_detail.asp?id=948 and body http://www.doll-zone.com/pro_detail.asp?id=952 I think it's too soon to see owners photos with the human arms
Well, I crumbled. I ordered a Moment. Our resident alchemist will have two lab assistants, one Souloid and one...Planthro! I ordered him in white, unpainted with a pair of the 03 hands. I wasn't too impressed by the finishing on the human arms that were offered, so I just got hands. So weird. Is there a way to order directly from DZ? I swore I'd never buy one of their dolls, so I've never even looked. I ordered from Denver Doll once I'd checked out their payment options. A four month layaway is pretty painless on such an inexpensive doll, so I didn't make much of a dent in my Ludwig savings. Whew!
St.James: Dollzone sells internationally only through their dealers, so you have to go through Denverdoll, Mintoncard, etc. Took me a while to figure that out, lol. I was desperately trying to order through the official site and almost gave up once.
At MOC they have the dragon babies listed for sale individually, so you don't have to buy $800 in stuff to get them. I like the heads but am not liking the bodies at all. The tail is way too fat for my tastes. I'll just enjoy looking at others' owner pics.
DDE was nice enough to let me change my order and thus get a free Louis head for the Spring event. Was very tempted by Una, but I would only want her with the freaky stag-horn fern ear things. I decided to get my Moment the jointed boy hands instead of two pairs of regular hands, since I think I would be fun for him to make weird little flower stamen hand poses in the center of those petals.
St. james - I had already ordered my regualr hands for Anson when I saw those jointed hands. I thought I might like them but it was too late and also if I remember correctly, they were pretty expensive. I can't wait until you post pictures of your hands. Since I ordered Anson, I think the jointed hands are nicer for a boy anyways. Yes, I am quite impressed DZ is having their event before the end of Anson and Moment. That is quite nice of them even though I am not a Dragon fan. I could get a head. Their heads are quite different and would be nice as a second head for our bodies. Many years ago when the antique dolls were made, some came in sets with one body and 3 or 4 heads. That is something we should all do to cut on costs and when we get tired of a head we all change it.
In the parts section they actually sell both Una and Jeremy's ears separately. So if you got the Una head you could get the ears as well.
yay, more flowers coming to people! here is an update picture of aphelion... after another couple of hours, i've gotten most of this side of the head done (i still have to do the back of the petals as well since they will be visible from some angles) it doesn't seem like much progress from the last picture, but i swear it is! this pretty boy is going to take his sweet time, that much i can already tell
My Anson arrived today! Oh wow, she is so insanely beautiful! I'm ridiculously happy to have her here I know people are dying for pics, but they will have to wait until daylight tomorrow. It took me a while to figure out which arm is which and all that, but the actual stringing was pretty easy. A note on that though, the string they send her with is much too long for her arms, so you will need to cut or tie it about half as long as the piece they send. Darkmothflame - your Moment is looking amazing! I love how soft & subtle you are keeping the marbling, it makes it look incredibly real! You should make him a matching "fig leaf" for meetup modesty
darkmothflame - he is looking awesome. I can see it is going to take a long time so don't get impatient and try to hurry. What you have done so far is perfect. candygears - the string is too long? Now I am scared again. I have not strung anything. I am so pitiful I couldn't get the hands off of my Dollstown 7 body. Isn't that pitiful. I have managed to get a head off though. I guess if a person just takes their time and follow their not so detailed pictures with no words it should work out. So many have done it here, I am sure I should be able to. It is just the first time is scary. I remember the first time I changed eyes I was scared. Now we can see what you are going to do with Anson. Remember we all love pictures while we wait for our turn to get our dolls.
Alright guys! I put up a bunch of pictures of my girl! More in the gallery! She's just so amazing, I literally can't stop staring at her. She's been pretty cooperative at holding really great standing poses too, I think her petals help balance her a lot. I'm just ridiculously impressed with this amazing doll...
So is anyone now thinking of ordering another doll to be a companion with the one you already ordered. I sure am. If we don't act now it will be too late. I think i really need Moment to keep my Anson company when she finally arrives. Hope that is soon but I know it will still be awhile. After having my deer girl for quite quite awhile now (I ordered her when I ordered a DZ body and DZ Natasha), I have painted her legs. She came with faceup, painted horns, but no painted legs. That had come at quite a surprise as I had thought when you paid for the painting ($50) and the faceup was so minimal, you got the legs painted. I am actually glad I didn't have them painted because I now have them a colour that matches the dress I bought her. She looks wonderful and I will take a picture to show you guys. I guess it is off topic but we had talked so much about the pearl ex awhile back and since I bought so many colours, I am so happy I could use them on this little girl. I will definitely be using them on Anson and after spraying them the sparkly didn't disappear as much as I thought it might.
Anne Mae you could check out the Dollzone discussion threads. I'm pretty sure someone can show you pictures of a yellowed WS doll. From what I remember the WS turns to a nice ivory color.
OMG is all i can say! Picture of my Flower family! Untitled by kittywolf13, on Flickr box opening pics are in this set on my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/54526034@N00/sets/72157627817055011/ Also i took step by step (well nearly) of how i strung one of her petal arms. Incedently it is very diffcult to string, hold the elastic and my phone (cause my camera died) all at the same time for the sake of teaching. :P
Hello everyone! I have been sneaking around here on DoA and in this thread waiting for my first two dolls to arive. And today I finally got my Moment, Im so in love with him!
She is here! The ear petals are held on with magnets. They're only lightly on, which isn't such a bad thing when dolly takes a bit of a tumble. ^^;;
Thank you so much NannaElle! She is incredible! I made a video of how to string the arms. It was pretty easy.
Here's the body alone with some other mini's. I'm working on an outfit, so later a photo might happen with her all put together. We have from left to right: Custom House JR Ai Marco (NS), Batchix Lagoon (WS), Dollzone Anson body (WS), Unoa 1.5 (NS), Batchix Gamma w/Epsilon head, Batchix Alpha Forgive the weird angle. I lined them all up against the wall, but laying on the floor so I didn't have to worry about any faceplants.
Oh gosh that must be frustrating! I've strung mine three times today and I don't want to do it again any time soon. I was hoping that swapping out the S hooks in her petal-palms she might have better range of motion. The jury is still out on that one.
PoeticSoul : Thank you! ^^ I love him so much , looking forward to make hes face up and body blush, Im going crazy on him I tell you! keepithushhush I have an pic of Lulu and Gugu =)
the neck hole is the correct size for the anson body and her head is about 6.7inches around, so not that much smaller than a regular dollzone mini's head. the rep mentioned in the news thread that the moon head does fit on the mini girl body, but that the neck might be too long.... i personally love long necks and think it could work for the character, but the neck can also be sanded down so i'm not too worried about it being too small ^^ i got the moon with face up so i'm really hoping i can match the rich blues on the petal arms.....
