Wow I'm surprised to see the previous page or so talks about some very old sculpts! Years ago I paid a visit, and the forum was filled with only the current sculpts of the time, and they are quite different from the oldest ones, for sure. I just bought a used Shoyo; hopefully the seller can ship her soon. For years I only owned two MSD, both Dollzone, but this year I decided to change that. however, I really am only fond of all the really old bodies and heads lol! guess i'm kind of boring since I like that my girls will have the same body style from the time.
I also really like the old sculpts @Lehst ! I'm so sad that a lot of the old ones are gone now. Hid, Mo, Megi, those were some of my favourites. I have the Mo, he's the one in the cute dress. I loved the Mo-2 faceup but he's now over a decade old and his sealant is getting yellow so I'm going to have to redo it. I'm very sad about having to remove the old factory face ;~;
I'm right there with you on how sad it will be to remove a factory face. I'm holding on as long as possible lol, but a few months ago I got out my dolls, and while I had my Tintan stored undressed, she still had her eyes in. I needed to take them out and clean them, and oof! pulled her lashes off with the sticky-tack. It was quite the challenge to get them glued in again, never done that before lol. Mo-2 is definitely an old favorite. I adored the company photos of Mo and Megi, but in the end I never did purchase either one. but eh that's ok, I can still admire the photos! XD
Did someone mention old dollzones? @Lehst I hope your Shoyo gets to you fast! It's such a fun face. I think the old old single jointed bodies are really nice and I'm a bit sad I sold mine as it was really solid and fun to handle. Hope to see your oldies sometime! Some Shoyo doll tax, Michi is a hybrid on a dollmore body:
@Lehst That's for sure! Enjoying vicariously through photos is how I enjoy a LOT of dolls rn lol. I'm just a little devastated about the old sculpts being gone. They were so interesting! Have a picture of mine. 100_2927 by Ashe Chaos, on Flickr
@cobaltconduct oh your Michi looks so familiar, I am certain I've seen her on here before... Aha! I looked at your doll profiles, and I had a comment on Midoriko about both dolls. wow I totally forgot, guess maybe I caught the Shoyo fever from you? LOL. tbh though, all week I had been trying to find any photos of Shoyo (and other Dollzones) still available online to help me decide on the purchase, but sadly so many images are dead links by now. I've never seen a Shoyo anywhere near like Michi, and I just love the style. @KarieChaos aww! Mo! so beautiful. yeah I feel better just having a chance to see Mo after so long. looking great! but yeah my other favorite company was Dream of Doll, which as we know is long gone. but even if it was still in business, if they had changed their style a lot, I'd still be pining for discontinued stuff lol. Dollzone has done a ton of stuff over the years and I don't know of most of it xD.
@Lehst OMG I also am so sad to return to the hobby and find DoD out of business ;~; But all those beautiful older Dollzone sculpts make me sad. I wanted to get a few of them, but now I can't.
Mmmm I feel you on removing old company face ups. My demi-2 still has her company face up (though I ripped off her lashes ages ago) and she's sorely in need of a refresh to better match my crew's current aesthetic. My main issue is the severely straight eyebrows they gave her.
Oh no.... the Shoyo fever.... it's contagious (I am not sorry ) You might have the best luck finding some non-broken images when searching on Flickr and Tumblr still, lots of lovely (custom) Shoyos still on there.
@cobaltconduct ohhh that's a good idea. I never did figure out how to use Tumblr and forgot it exists, and for the most part, the same goes for Flickr lol. thanks!
It’s Throwback Thursday! I love all the discussion about the old-school sculpts. Those were the sculpts that brought me into this hobby and they still have a firm grip on my heart. (Dollzone’s original aesthetic was totally my jam. ) Here’s my wonderful Shoyo and Megi. Shoyo is in pink resin, and Megi was introducing their new Normal Yellow. I got them both in 2016, when DZ was having their discontinuation event. Both of these sculpts, I believe, were retired then.
Ohhh they are precious @Rabbit-moon ! Love their styling also Also came here to say that there is a Hid on dollyteria if anyone is looking.
@Rabbit-moon Same! I joined the hobby in 2007-2008 and the old DZ sculpts were the one that caught me first! They just have something about them that is special. I'm so sad they're discontinued.
Thank you cobaltconduct! Shoyo is so darling and sweet. And, Megi is a tough little guy with a heart of gold. I love these two so much! Thank you KarieChaos! Wow! Another fan of the old-school DZ sculpts. Im sad too that they were discontinued, but it’s so wonderful that these amazing dolls are not being forgotten. Speaking of lovely old sculpts. Here are my DZ Yume and Yuri. Yume (in white) is from 2008, and on the original single-jointed girl body. And, Yuri is from 2011, with the B45-005 double-jointed girl body. Both sculpts were retired in 2012. I was thinking of dressing these girls in cosplay as Wednesday Addams and Enid. It’s just a thought.
@Rabbit-moon oh my goodness, it's the vampire girls! I think I have an old poster with them on it (and by now I really don't remember how I got said poster. I think it was a random find among several in a poster tube someone was getting rid of?) They look amazing though omg. I don't think I've actually seen any photos of them from a collector. Also your Shoyo and Megi!!! beautiful old sculpts. Thank you for the dates on them too- I can't recall off the top of my head when I bought my own. I liked the b45-004, 005 bodies A LOT. it's a huge reason why I recently bought the secondhand Shoyo. My first msd (Tintan) has the one with the bigger boobs lol, but now I have a Feilian and this Shoyo with the smaller boobs. They can all share clothes but some stuff looks better with a flatter chest . Anyways, today she arrived!!! I need to clean up Shoyo a bit and then take a photo. Might have to wait until my day off work tho. Boooo....
Thank you KarieChaos! I am so glad I got these girls when I had the chance. Those are their original wigs, too. (Remember, way-back-when, BJD companies used to gift free wigs and eyes when you bought a doll?). So much has changed… Thank you very much Lehst! I’m so happy that you like my twin vampires. These old DZ sculpts are so special and precious to me. My vampire girls, Winifred (Yume) and Moira (Yuri) are a reminder to me of the halcyon days of this hobby. Those were such fun and exciting times. You are welcome on the dates. I’m a Virgo, and I have spreadsheets on all my dolls. What can I say? Virgos love lists! Congrats on getting a Shoyo! I can’t wait to see her! Please post photos when you get a chance.
I dooooo! The free eyes and wig were such awesome gifts! Do they not anymore? Thats such a shame, it makes them lively right out of the box, even if they aren't the right colours/style you have in mind! *forgot to note* I bought my Mo as the Mo-2 fullset because I actually wanted the outfit for ANOTHER doll lol, so I got the fullset wig and eyes, but he never did wear them.
oh yeah I remember doll listings pretty much always said somenting like "comes with free set of 16mm eyes (random)." wow, that's a rare thing now? I haven't looked at actual new dolls in many years, just new clothes. The Mo-2 fullset was awesome, but honestly I would've done about the same. I liked the hair and outfit, but not necessarily on the Mo sculpt. I've done that with other things, buy a full product with the intention of splitting it up. It's nice having a use for all parts though, even if not as manufacturer intended lol!
I'm loving seeing all these classic sculpts! Old DZ minis are still my favorite BJD aesthetic, and occasionally I still search for them on the MP here, not necessarily to shop but just to see if any are around. I would love to have the funds and space to adopt every single one of them lol, but yee Here is my favorite picture of my first BJD, Laika, also a Shoyo! She's yellowed a lot but I still love her! She's never had a faceup because I love the sculpt as is and the character is an android. [Edit because I forgot I shared the pic 3 pages ago! Have my second favorite of her instead!] I'd love to spam more pics of her and my other DollZones, but I worry about flooding the chat.
@Cattya omg she looks so rad! and yeah I'm with you on wishing I could adopt way more dolls lol! I think my "new" Shoyo will be my last doll for a good long while again. I've been giving her some TLC, but I'm waiting for some new eyelashes to come in the mail. Previous owner had her in storage a long time, and while I would've just reglued her current eyelashes that had come undone, one of them is a bit too damaged. Might as well just glue in new ones instead.
I am super tempted by Yin. Can anyone make recommendations based on previous DZ fantasy doll history? Yin would be my first, but I've got a bit of a naga collection going on.
@dm_sof Dollzone wait times currently seem to be 6-12 months for both domestic and overseas customers. From talking to other doll owners and looking at comments on here and Taobao, there seems to be no clear logic that defines how Dollzone choose to prioritise production: how long ago the doll was announced and the options you do or don't pick with your order are no guaranteed indicator of how long you will wait. I ordered a Jellyfish head in 2024, which had delicate sculpting and jointed tendrils, in clear glittering resin, with a body and option transparent hands. The production time was 4 months. I'm currently waiting for a 75cm fullset (Rock) which I would consider less complex to make than the Jellyfish (faceup, a painted hook hand, outfit which is mostly wrap garments, no jointed hands, no body or hand blushing) that has only just been sent at the 11 month mark. I started to see parts of this doll's fullset appear on social media in August, and I know 1 other DoA member has recently received theirs. I suspect Dollzone have a very large backlog of orders (comments on their Taobao also suggest this), and considering the doll I ordered was announced late last December, and Dollzone have taken orders for a good 8 or more new dolls since, I am not optimistic about wait times improving. If you do decide to order Yin, I would highly suggest going through a dealer (I use Alice's Collections) so someone can inquire about your order on your behalf. I'm not sure how much longer I would have been waiting without Alice regularly holding Dollzone to their expected wait times – it went from "mid to late November" to "1-2 weeks longer" to shipped. Dollzone do make lovely, unique dolls (I'm a sucker for ocean horror) but it's a bit irritating as a customer to see them taking orders for multiple new fancy complex dolls while you're waiting for your order. I won't be ordering from Dollzone again in the near future – the wait times and censorship of the male bodies outweigh the appeal of the designs for me at the moment.
-They take a LONG time unless you order early and get a pre-cast doll. More erratic wait than Dream Valley or Coralreef, who also have long wait times, bc it does feel a bit worse to see people who ordered a later released doll than you get theirs first  Their fantasy dolls do take longer. Fullsets take forever. I waited for almost a year for a fullset from them. DZ white matches DV white (regular white, not wall white) perfectly ime, but DZ like DV yellows kind of fast. I've seen comments on xiaohongshu griping about how their peony white is more like mia white after a year lol. I haven't seen the same kind of rapid yellowing on my DZ white or moon white, but for others it's a sticking point. -I have Dollzone Xiangliu (their 1/5 naga girl), she poses fantastically and comes with heavy duty wire on the inside. She can actually rear up on her tail unlike my poor DV Ehecatl (who I still need to wire and suede...). So I'm confident that Yin will be the same way. -They string their dolls *really* tight. On their minis it's okay, but since Yin is so long I'm a bit worried about the tail tip arriving broken... I've seen complaints that they're dolls don't post as well after restringing them to be looser bc they're engineered to have really tight stringing. I've only unstrung one of their dolls from DZ, their Devil Tarot beast version, but she also had unique stringing. That said, all my DV dolls have posted well, though sometimes limbs are def more for display than function (like Yin-Long's little legs). -At least for the dolls I've ordered from them, their sanding of darker resins is really good. I have a black DZ Shadow (their wyvern), and I can't see any sanding marks on him. I also have a tan, same deal. Their dolls are sandblasted smooth. I also plan on ordering Yin because I'm giving my Ehecatl a husband lol, with Xiangliu as their daughter
I couldn't make a recommendation, per se, but I just received the 1/3 scale Yin Long and he's got some basic physical similarities (and part of a name) to Yin, so maybe that counts for something? He's spectacular, and holds a pose so much better than I expected, so I have no reason to think this naga lad would be too much different. Lighter/a little less substantial and a bit more delicate due to the scale? Almost certainly. But I have zero complaints about Yin Long's quality, so this Yin is absolutely on my radar. Wait time-wise, I ordered in February and received him a few days ago, though this isn't a totally accurate way to gauge their actual turnaround time since he was quite literally shipped by sea and was in transit for over a month. So I guess it was around 8 months-ish? About what I expected. I already have DV Ehecatl and an incoming snake body from what I think is an OT indie company, but... man, the white/blue combo for Yin is like a siren call for me specifically Oh my goodness you are not kidding, I was almost unable to get Yin Long's head on because he was wound that tight The size/length of him did not help either and I was moments away from having to resort to questionable wrestling moves before I finally got that s-hook up JUST enough to get his head on.
I ordered Light's wings and wing crown back in December 2024 with blushing, and then ordered a blank Light in February. Both orders were ready in June 2025. I ordered directly from Dollzone from their Taobao shop. Their direct orders do seem to ship a hair faster then dealer orders, but I know not everyone is able or comfortable ordering from their TB shop. 6 months isn't particularly long, but long wait times don't personally bother me. I'm mostly a set and forget type of person anyway. And the blushing on my Light's wings is gorgeous
I'm also contemplating Yin very strongly... He's so gorgeous, but I can't decide if I want to do the plunge for a fullset of him, especially with how long fullset orders seem to be taking now. The outfit and wig are really gorgeous, but I'm not as big on the faceup for whatever reason...? I don't have any other DZ dolls either, but I'm tempted by the moon white coloring, is that resin known to yellow quickly as well?
Thanks for the feedback, guys! I don't mind the tight stringing or the long/inconsistent wait - I like Cloudminded am a set and forget buyer. I've been surprised by the arrival of dolls I forgot I'd ordered 6+ months earlier more times than I'd like to admit. Aka, I'm probably gonna go for it next pay period. Now I have to decide what color to get. I try to get all my snaky kiddos in different colors, so I'm left with blue, light green, and black... Unless I want to go moon white, I suppose, and have the tail and body be the same color for once.
My 2024 Dollzone White has no noticeable yellowing – it's a yellow-toned pale white that's about an 80-85% match to Volks White. However, my doll has only been outdoors for 1 photoshoot, and stored in dark places. I live in a low humidity area (southeastern Australia) where temperatures vary on average between 15-35°C (I've also never lived in an air conditioned/temperature regulated house since collecting dolls). None of my bought-new dolls from various dollmakers show any signs of rapid yellowing, but some bought secondhand do (I have 2019 Volks White that nearly looks the same as 2011 White), and a local friend's DV White resin has yellowed quickly. While a degree of yellowing is unavoidable, I suspect environment and temperature are contributing factors. This picture is from September, showing the current state of my DZ White with other pale resins:
@castironteapot Thank you for the comparison!! Good to know you haven't seen any rapid yellowing on your DZ -- I'm guessing environment can have a large impact on resin aging as well.
environment is def a factor in how quickly resin yellows. I feel like dollzone's white resin does yellow a bit faster than my other dolls, but not like crazy quickly! my dz kerze from 2022, who has been taken on many adventures, is definitely not white anymore (thankfully the mellowing is even!) another dz doll I had that was made prob around the same time, if not earlier, didn't go outside so wasn't as yellowed, and looked close to a volks normal. However compared to the body I got for it around 2024, there was noticeable difference!
All my DZ dolls are 7-11 years old and all have yellowed or mellowed to look significantly different to the current white resins DZ uses. My normal pink Demi-2 from 2014 is the only one who I really have no sort of reference for. She has mellowed quite nicely though so that's a win in my books.
Wow it's been 2 months, but I'm finally back to do bjd things. Life got in the way for awhile, but today I picked up where I left off- which is getting my newly purchased Shoyo her new eyelashes inserted! I've had the lashes here the whole time, so it was pretty annoying having to pause and put the dolls away lol. The glue is still drying, but I hope tomorrow I can get her head back on and dressed. I really love her eyeshadow!! that hint of baby blue is just so . Then, because I can finally play with dolls again, I went and surfed for any new sale listings. I must say I was surprised to find a couple things have popped up on ebay, however, I always feel that way when something is being sold secondhand lol. I thought Shoyo would be my last for a few years, but I have broken the rule for "the one that got away" - a dollzone Mo. It's a Mo-3, I believe with the Normal-Yellow skin, but I'm not sure until he arrives. I really didn't care to even ask. I could tell he was double jointed and has a factory face, and called it good. Technically the one I used to look at many years ago was Mo-2, but that's kind of cuz Mo-3 wasn't even released yet. Either way, he was gonna get re-dressed or something, but I love the face. I'll figure it out in time, but right now I think one of my other dolls wants to see him.
Oh cute!! I need to give my Demi-2 her eyelashes back. They came off during a house move years ago and I just haven't glued them back yet.
oh my! but I understand putting it off. It wasn't exactly my favorite activity. Also dressing Shoyo has been delayed again, cuz I went to the store to get more (and better) glue. I wanted to really make sure they were attached before getting the eye putty all up in there. It's dry now, but I had other chores today. orz. For now just have my first ever photo of Roland! (taken just now!) He's a dollzone Ro that I got a really good deal on early last year. I wasn't sure how I felt about him until I got him a new wig, and it matches his make-up sooo much better than the default gray. The shirt is something I've had a long time; it was originally featured on the Megi mold (I never owned a Megi tho.) And then also today, Mo arrived way ahead of schedule! He's great! Has my favorite old boys body- the first one with double joints. Only downside is he is VERY yellow in person. I'm sure his original color was already "Normal-Yellow" but man... it's pretty noticeable compared to my other bjd. His face though is a lighter yellow than his body, and I'm thankful. It's fine- he'll have on long sleeves and pants anyways. I'm just glad he wasn't the TAN resin that Dollzone used in Mo-3 official photos. I don't want to deal with how testy tan resin can be. That said, I doubt I'll use his white wig- it only makes him seem more yellow. I'll have to dig out some doll items and test out what looks best, but that's just part of the fun!
@Lehst so good to see another mo around! i'm excited to see what you do with him (: i have a girl mo on a doll leaves body that i still need to give a faceup + customize. i love them so much, their faces make me feel nostalgic for my first few years in the hobby (:
New photos! Sadly it's been between 1 degree and negative 14 degrees Fahrenheit, horrendously cold and fairly cloudy. When it's a little more hospitable out, I'll get better light. Mo is borrowing a wig that's the wrong size, I'm waiting for a new one, but it'll take another week or two to arrive. In the meantime, I set them down on a foam doll couch from the grocery store lol. Mo-3, and now finally Shoyo, are dressed! I'd like to get Mo some different eyes, but could be long while before I figure out his style. I was happy to try out his shirt tho! I got it a few months ago from Alice Collections. Shoyo is wearing a wig from the Dollzone Jake fullset, but it looks about the same as the one from her own default set. She arrived with a different wig and a white outfit. This pink outfit is from Denver Doll- shirt, skirt and headband all listed separately. Oh and her eyelashes too. Loving it! huh, I am now learning that DOA makes the images appear larger on-screen than they actually are, which makes them look low-res. I saved someone else's image and it looks smaller and clearer than within the post. That's so lame. Anyways, this is a dollzone Jake (but a diff wig), and Feilian-3 with her special eyes and make-up. The wig is actually the one that arrived with my Shoyo, and wow it looks so good on her! Thankfully too; I had already spent a lot on a wig that didn't match as well as I hoped. Thank you for viewing my new (old) Dollzones! I had just 2 doll for more than 10 years now, but during the past 2 years found these 4 (plus the Ro posted just earlier.) Big family now! With Mo arriving, I feel like my last wished doll has been found.
New Aww, thank you!! Yeah I'm absolutely loving the pink on pink with a side of pink outfit lol. In other news, I ordered a wig on Ebay and they never shipped anything or responded to messages. Had to cancel/refund, so now, over a month later, poor Mo still doesnt doesn't have his own wig. Ah well, I'll get him something eventually!
