My hands are always so sore after a restringing, especially with 1/3 scale dolls. I think I actually bruised my fingers once. <_<;

haha britt, that was random but I'm entering the photography contests. Of course I can't share the pictures till the contest is over and all voting is done bit evidently y'all will get to see them.

ahahaha I entered the Silhouette Contest. Can't tell you what I did for it because of the contest rules but yup, i entered it. I'm also going to enter the other two photography contests. It gives me something to do over the next week with my dolls.

Going backwards... Even when this thread is moving relatively slow, I can't seem to stay caught up!

Lola: August is so gorgeous. Her hair is just stunning.

Knibitz: Those are quite the eyes Fleur has. They're complimented by his faceup and hair so well. The Raphael sculpt was already one of my favorites, and it's just growing on me the more I see it.

Solitary: I'm sure it's easy to tell how in love with Renton I am. I love his sort of blue and earth tones color scheme there too. With such a dark background, he really pops and looks great.


I took the tips on restringing and cut Ama's leg elastic in half and then tightened it significantly and... and wow. The difference is astonishing. Both legs are so evenly strung now, and she poses like a dream. Her arms and hips are still really kicky, but I attribute that to her still being relatively new (less than a month with me) and me not being exactly a master at sueding. >_>;;

I need to take her out and pose her for some photos tomorrow or the next day once I have time.

 

Hello! I'm so behind in here! I need to get a bit of time to sit down and catch up with spammage!

Last night a bit of inspiration hit and Aria got a quick wig change and a quick photo was taken. I'm thinking I like it better than the white, but will need a better quality wig if I stick with the color. What do you all think?

Dorothy arrived today!!!! With only one problem...
DDE messed up my order. My boy Dorothy is a girl. :/

I'm going to email them about it tomorrow. In the meantime, I think I'll spend my time adoring how absolutely GORGEOUS the Dorothy mold is, and thinking "wow, I didn't know MSDs were so big!!".
Man, Dollzone bodies are amazing. Even as super kicky as she is, she's still super posable! o:

My reaction exactly - after getting my first MSD I thought, wow I'll never need a SD size doll

Hypercurve - I wouldn't worry. I'm sure my order was just a fluke or something! And gosh, I can't even begin to imagine how big SD's must be!! o: MSD's are the absolute perfect size for me.

 

I've got a 74 cm SD. He's massive. That's probably as large as I'll go.
Renton says thank you for all the compliments! I need to take him and my SDs out for a photoshoot soon, they haven't had a real outdoor one recently like my other three have.

 

I took Airi out to get some shoots I need for a contest and then just messed with her and she got fire ants up her skirt as a result, this is just another reason I dislike Texas. i'll have SD's one day, just don't know when.

 

emmsie: I got to cuddle with Porcelainsmorge's Leeke boy and SDs are soooo fun to cuddle with! Perfect size for it!
But as for handling, he wore me out while I was making him some pants. x __ x SDs are noticeably heavier than MSDs, and Maya is strung /LOOSE/ (she got him that way). I think he'll be more fun once he's strung better, but MSDs will always be my favorite size.
Though I am eager to play with a yo-SD.

Heh. My first ever bjd (part) was a poorly modded Dreaming Shiwoo head that I bought for face-up practice. I thought it was really small and that it must be an MSD. When Gwalchmei's first wig arrived before Gwalchmei himself, I tried it on my Shiwoo head and it was much too small. I panicked because I thought the wig would be too small for Gwalchmei! Then I took my tape measure and discovered that my "small" floating head was 9,5 inches large XD... Finally when Gwalchmei arrived, I thought his head was really tiny. I guess that's what happens when you start buying BJDs without ever having seen one in real life...

My two incoming dolls are SDs (65 cm). I'm looking forward to having larger dolls, but it's clear that my MSD will always be much more portable. I also have him sitting/sleeping on a pillow on my bed; obviously the SDs are going to be a bit too large for that. They're going to be so much easier to sew clothes for, though!

Sigune: I can relate a little. Some clothes I ordered for my girl came in before her, so I was stuck sitting there looking at what seemed like HUGE shoes and a shirt, wondering what I'd gotten myself into. xD It's funny how doll size/weight perceptions change with time, though--now, it doesn't seem like my Demi is big or a little heavier, but just that my OT fashion dolls are tiny/featherweights!

 

Riddick was the first BJD I ever saw in person... I got a jacket I'd bought first and thought it was so small and cute! My first SD size one was a head, but by that time I'd seen others in real life so I knew what to expect. I really like MSD size for photographing and stuff, but I like the SD ones too. They do take up so much more space, though! Anything smaller than mini-size is too small to carry around on it's own, to me. They can't sit on your arm like an SD or MSD so they're awkward. If I'm carrying a tiny not in a bag it's got to be on a mini or SD size lap!

first doll I saw in person was a SD, that doll was actually the one that introduced me to BJDs lol. They're size doesn't freak me out, I play with SDs all the time and have plans for some.

Amy: haha my yoSD is always in one of my MSDs laps when we're out and about lol.

 

equine It's funny you say that. I have an MSD (Errol) and a tiny (Nurunuru) and my fiance has a LittleFee (Beau). Whenever they're together Nurunuru sits on Beau's lap who sits on Errol's lap. X3

So I was having trouble sleeping last night, and to ease my boredom, I naturally got out Dorothy and began to play with her. I mean, how could I resist, right? And slowly but surely she began to resemble less and less the character I had set out for her, and began developing her own personality all together. And this morning I realized...I don't actually want the boy body anymore. So Dorothy will remain a girl!
I have renamed her Avery (just need to fix my siggy now haha) and she and I are currently waiting for the hot glue gun to warm up so that she can be sueded for the first time! Wish me luck! >.<

 

I can deal with SDs as long as it's not my own xD My Mom has an EID Luo and I have no probleming toying around with him but my two attempts at owning SDs failed.
I just prefer MSDs cause IMO they are the perfect size :3

 

...guys? Can you buy elastic for bjds in stores?

 

I haven't tried it, but I think that haberdashery shops might have some elastic that you can actually use. I have found 2,5 mm elastic, in any case - I think that's thick enough for an MSD. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

 

Sigune - Oh thank GOD. Dx I tried cutting the elastic like it was mentioned earlier in this thread...it didn't work out. :c

Oooh, really? Good tip, thanks! The largest I've ever found is 2mm at Hobby Lobby, and that'd only work for tinies, I think.

 

Well, I do have a SD size Dollfie Dream, but for some reason she doesn't look so big I'll always have MSDs though for all my characters, and maybe a couple of yo-sds, they look so cute!

Oh, and those bad fire ants didn't bite Airi did they? Poor girl!

Capistrono: Hahaha ... my DZ tiny Nono (Kiko) always sits on one of my MSD girl's lap, someone always has to carry her around, spoiled little brat.

emmsie- I can'twait to see your Dorothy! I really had a hard time deciding between her and Aimi, While I'm very happy with Aimi, I've always have been curious about what Dorothy really looks like! It's good that you like her just the way she is!

Now that Aria has a new hair color (and new wig, once DDE gets stock), I really want to re-do his face-up. It's factory done, and not too bad, but his eyebrow position has always bugged me. Now the question is: leave them white, try blue to match his new hair color, or go with a completely different third color? Any opinions?

 

quidam I would try to match his hair color. My Megi has the default face up and I love it, but if I could change anything about it I would match the eyebrow color to his hair color.

 

That's why I've always requested Custom or I do all my own faceups I hate when eyebrows don't match.

 

I actually thought I'd like the white hair, so his eyebrows didn't bother me at first, but it's always seemed bland on him.

Well, he's now free of his factory look. I'm fairly certain that DZ must use the most super powered sealant on the face of the earth, because the faceup wouldn't even budge until I broke out the nail polish remover. Even then it took a lot of elbow grease. Of course he then had to have a good bath after that.
Gesh. He's so high maintenance for a guy!
His face is currently drying from the first MSC coat. Then it's time for his new look!

 

I've been working on Porcelainsmorge's Demi, Justi for the past, hmm, hour or so. She's so adorable, and I feel so honored to be doing her faceup. ; 3 ;
It's really making me a Demi fan.
Also, Emi is here! But I changed his character from the vocalist of Aicle., Emiru, to just a hardcore fan of him. :P His name is now Emiko~ Expect some pictures of him soon!

Well, at the last minute Aria told me that he didn't want blue hair; he wanted "his" hair. By that he meant the wig I bought him originally but decided against because it didn't look right on him. Annica had been wearing it for awhile.

I am extremely happy about how he turned out. He has a bit more personality now!

Reino finally has his own shoes $6 slip-ons. M-Style through MoC. Fit him perfectly. Best fit I've ever had for shoes on a DZ.

 

Sirius: Are those daikadoll hands? I'm kicking myself (super hard) for passing up the DZ jointed hands sale! *dies*

 

Yep they are the dikadoll jointed hands....I love them. Hehe..even if you have to be careful when posing so they don't look like crazy broken fingers ^_^;
