Hi Vampyre! I don't think anyone replied back. This thread exploded all of a sudden. My friend has a HID...they were super popular, but I see them so rarely now, that I mistake them for MOs unless I see the scar.

They should know! D: We've been dating for forever now! And thanks! Akio stayed in the hoodie for like a month after I first gave it to him. Lol

Oh and we're pretending it's winter, it explains the long sleeves and Reino having his natural hair color, which he should not have in the summer, he dyes his hair blue before summer hits.

Equine: Actually, a lot of them needed some work because of that blasted sun. I should have brought a diffuser, but I didn't think of it. But that shot was my ultra, mega favorite. lol It didn't need any work other than the basics. :3

Sooo...^_____^ I'm so super excited that Equine and I actually got to TAKE pictures at the gardens that I have to spam one more shot

Shirou was a little grumpy. He liked making friends, he's just bad at it. Akio is bubbly and happy to actually be out of the hotel room. Airi look calm and stoic, but still pleased to be given so much attention. And Reino just down right happy. xD

P.S. I noticed that Akio was always looking at my camera, but everyone else was looking at Equine's camera. lol

britt: ahahaha, Airi looks a little uncertain like she's annoyed to be squashed between Akio and Reino but she's secretly enjoying the attention. And not like it helps that they were looking at me instead of you all of my group shoots come out terrible and are going to need a lot of work to make them look decent.

Equine: Lol!! Since we were in the shade, most of them came out pretty decent. I had a few focus issues with some, but most of them were alright. This was my favorite angle though. :3

Hi all! My DZ Hal, Gwalchmei, arrived last Friday. He's my very first doll, and I have to confess that I went ahead and ordered him without really knowing much about different companies at all. And I have to say, I couldn't be happier with my choice. Clearly this was just meant to be ...

I didn't expect to care much about posing, but now that Gwalchmei is here and I find that he poses so naturally and so well, I'm worried that non-Dollzone dolls might not be as posable :P. Gwalchmei has a double-jointed body and as far as I'm concerned, it's simply wonderful.

He's going to have to go through a few costume changes and he needs new eyes (he came with 16 mm acrylic eyes that are really too large for him), but I simply *must* share a picture XD.



He's wearing his full-set shirt and trousers (which I adore) and a mohair wig made by DoA's Hasel.

The only things I'm not wild about are his default wig, which only looks good if he also has his hood and hat on (the headband invariably shows), and his boots, which do look lovely but whose zippers aren't terrible :/.

it's nice to see another Hal in the thread - I think the sculpt is so beautiful (can't wait to get mine back from the artist).
My boy weras 12mm eyes which look absolutely perfect IMO.

Silver: wow, I never really thought about it but now I can so see them being sisters.

Sigune: Oh a Hal, how very nice there's so few of them around at the moment.

Kykycik: No problem, I also very often compare the small bust to a human A cup.


So you know what I JUST realized, if you look at the group pic we have all four skin tones. Now Akio has yellowed a bit but if you look closely you can see he is whiter then Airi.

 

@Rotenwolkenvogel: You have a Hal too? I'm so curious to see him with a custom face-up - I've never seen one before! As for the eyes, Dollzone normally gives him 14 mm. I don't have any eyes except the ones he came with, and I find it difficult to estimate the difference. But I guess 12 mm would look more realistic than 14 mm?

@equine-aurora: I was sold on Hal as soon as I saw him, so I was kind of surprised to arrive here and discover that there are so few Hals around. He's adorable! Well, he is to me in any case .

 

Sigune: Hal is still new enough that it'll take awhile to get more then two in here, and he might just be of of those molds that's just not as popular, like Jake I only know two Jake's. I want a Dorothy, Hal's sister mold.

 

I love Hal and I'm glad to see a new one I'm considering him in the future for a character of mine. Though I'm a little afraid he might look too young.

 

Kykycik: I edited my post with the pic of Philippa's bust. Lemme know if you can view it now. As far as bust size goes smaller the better for my girls, no wrestling with the tops

Sigune: Oh my ... a Hal !!!!! He will be one of my future DZ boys! Cute owner pics like this makes me more and more attracted to the mold!

Actually now that I think about it, the character I was thinking might be too old for Hal...I play a 17-year-old version of him as well as the 25-year-old. He'd be perfect for the younger version. :3

from what I understand the large bust isn't actually much bigger than the small bust on the double jointed bodies.
I think the small is a nice size, not too small that it's not clear that she's a girl unless she's wearing baggy things that don't fit well.

 

The old body girls are a good bit bustier I can't compare DJ small and large

 

Sigune I mostly give my dolls eyes which are a size smaller than what the website says would fit. here's my Hal with 12mm eyes for comparison purpose.

 

Oh! Thank you, Roterwolkenvogel, for the photo! That's very interesting - do I sound silly if I say that with 12 mm eyes Hal can easily pass for 14 years old? It seems to me that with the company face-up and 14 mm eyes he looks younger. Gwalchmei is supposed to be 11 years old, and now I'm thinking I should probably get 14 mm to strengthen that idea.

@solitaryagent: I personally think he looks a good deal younger than 17, yes - though probably more in terms of his face than in terms of his overall proportions.
Renton looks so sweet! I like his outfit .

@silvermasques: I've been told my character concept for Gwalchmei looked girly, so I suppose a girl!Hal makes sense .

@equine-aurora: I really have no idea about newness and the tempo at which dolls filter through... I'm too new myself XD! All I can say is that several (admittedly larger) DZ molds I have been looking around for - Aurora, Clare, Edward, Brant - seem to be barely present on the forum. So I came to the conclusion that I like unpopular molds. But maybe this is one other aspect of the bjd experience about which I simply have to be patient...?

Sigune Doesn't sound strange at all - the bigger the eyes, the younger the doll looks IMHO xD

 

I'm curious. How "white" is the DZ white skin? Is it paper-white like RS/BBB?

 

No, it's a creamy white - very lovely, if you ask me .

 

Well when it's brand new it's pretty paper white, but it mellows to a Nice White-cream hue pretty quickly. All my older Whites now are this really lovely Ivory tone

 

I was wondering about DZ white skin too.

Lena is white skin right Eleanor? Oh, and who did her faceup? So adorable!

He does look very young. The character I have him in mind for is very boyish-looking, though, and by the time he's 25 he still looks like a teenager. So I think maybe he could pull it off. And he has freckles, so the default faceup would be perfect!

Renton's shorts are new, I got them from Nightfall through Junky Spot. I usually can't buy clothes for my boys there because he carries mainly modern-style stuff, but the shorts work...even though I think they might have been intended as boxers.

 

Vulgar got restrung today! Well, his legs at least. It was my first time taking apart a doll, but he's back together, and sitting nicely now.
All the DZ minis me and porcelainmorge have gotten have been strung so well, but Vulgar is just a bit older. X3;

 

hypercurve - silver is right, Lena is white skin (though pretty heavily yellowed, it doesn't show up in pictures most of the time though; she usually still looks really white on camera in most light) and has default faceup. though the default faceup does seem to vary slightly.

 

I've been told the default faceups depend on who's doing them haha So even though my Megi has the default -2 faceup, his looks different (even before I added to it) from other default Megi-2s...

 

gr8story: Was Vulgar's re-stringing an easy job? One of my girls desperately needs hers done, I'm quite nervous, but I need to get on with it sooner or later. It'll be my very first re-stringing
So far I've been pulling the extra string under the head cap and tightening the knots.

 

Hypercurve: It was for the most part, but make sure that you or someone with you has enough muscle to help pull the elastic through so you can attach the hands and feet.
I had my sister's boyfriend hold the string I had to thread the elastic through the parts and pull it out and I just put the shook through the loop.
Be sure to look up a tutorial first, though! ^ ^

I'm just glad that Gwalchmei arrived well-strung, because a) I'm nervous about taking him apart and b) I'm not very strong. I tried to pull his s-hook up just for a test and it didn't budge O_O. I guess I'll start worrying about restringing when he gets floppy... AND call in some muscle (i.e. my sister :P).

 

Since no one in my family is exactly pro-doll ('cept my sister, but she's never around XD) I developed a set of singular restringing skills. For hands and feet: I loop a length of ribbon through the elastic, hold the doll with my left hand, yank out the elastic as far as I can and loop the ribbon tightly around my toe, thus freeing my right hand to put on the feet/hands XD Of course, for this to work you have to string on the floor; I usually lay down a towel or something haha

I have some restringing videos on my YouTube (same username) but the only one I walk through is the one for my Kid Delf. I can redo my DZ one if you guys need a walk-through

 

I find the DZ extremely easy to re-string. If you are good at taking things apart and putting them back together, this is a no brainer. Even people that hate doing it should have no problem, honestly. Once you do your first one, you'll see. xD It's always tough (mentally) restringing for the first time.

 

So those were your videos I watched, Nyco! I wasn't sure if it was you-you, but I guess I should have assumed. Restringing a DZ is a lot easier than I thought it'd be, even for my first time. I'm actually pulling Ama apart once I get back from the dentist today to tighten her elastic, since she's soooooo loose right now. (Speaking of the dentist, life has seemingly literally punched me in the jaw since my tooth extraction a week ago and I haven't had time/inclination to do much dolly related, but the couple pages I just read through to catch up were fantastic! Grats on your new dolls, and such gorgeous spam all around. So nice to see Airi and Lena and Renton and everyone else!)

 

I'm not a big fan of restringing but I taught myself how to do it by myself. I use string to pull the doll's string though the body parts then stick something, usually a metal stick I got when I bought Airi shoes from Claires, but if I don't have those I use mechanical pencils stick through the string to hold it while I hook the hand or foot on then just pull the stick like object out.


oh and I come bearing Adrik spam, I stole him for some quick pictures last night.


This is fanficismything​'s Jake for those of you who don't know. After playing with Yoshirou, Adrik seems really light to me. I guess this is a good example of different batches of tan.

 

I'm fairly odd when it comes to re-stringing - I simply love it and at Meets i mainly re-string every doll because it's so much fun x'D
From Tinies to MSDs I do it alone, everything bigger needs the help of my Mom (especially when it comes to her EID who is a pain in the ass to re-string).
My favorite "tools" are still my crochet-needles to hold the strings in their places :B

 

I love restringing, too! At one of our local meets it was decided that, at the following month's meet, everyone would bring their needs-to-be-restrung dolls and I spent two hours on the floor of the mall restringing them all XD I did a couple tinies, an MSD and a couple SDsm all by myself lol It was funny, sitting on the floor of the foodcourt, dolly bits around me. Passers-by found it very interesting; I'd garnered a small crowd about thirty minutes in XDD

 

I love restringing my MSDs.. my SDs however >> seem to always draw blood on me.

 

Restringing was actually fun, but I just need more practice. Poor Vulgar is all uneven now. orz

 

Same thing happened to me the first time I restrung Ama, gr8story. Uneven, *and* I managed to swap a couple of her lower limb pieces. Oops! If you're anything like me, it'll be several times better the next time you do it.

 

Eiridel: Yeah, I'm tempted to try again, but I need muscle with me who can stand to look at his blushed naughty parts. XD; I think that may only be porcelainmorge...
Either way, I'll hopefully get it sooner or later. :P

 

What I do to help prevent uneven-ness: Instead of having the one loop going down both legs, I have two separate loops of elastic going down each leg. Since I make each loop the same size, no wonky stringing! Its the first thing I do now when I get a new doll- I take them apart and cut their gorramn elastic in half XD 'Sides, new dolls nearly always need restringing, anyway ('cept my DZs, they were perfect, I just wanted to change their elastics ^^)

 

Nyco: Oooo, that's a really good idea!! I'll have to do that with Vulgar in a bit.

I do the same thing Nyco does. When I restring a new doll for the first time. It also makes stringing them a lot easier just untie the knot, cut the string in half, tie a knot in both strings and presto, even stringing. I did it to Reino two days after he arrived home.

 

I did that with Vulgar and he's better now! One side is a bit tighter, but that's my fault for not untying the knot. I wasn't even thinking. orz
It took my mom holding Vulgar and her boyfriend pulling the elastic out for me to just barely be able to attach his foot back on.
