edit: I know I just promised Jake spam but since the Mods are now imposing a one photo rule I'm going to post this picture of Airi then wait a abit and post a picture of Adrik. Since spam was requested.

Anyways I was over at fanfics today and when that happens doll stuff gets swapped around and such. Today it was wigs. So here's Airi looking absolutely , adorably, confused in Adriks wig. Oh and I'd like to point out YOU CAN SEE HER EYEBROWS! (well at least the one the wig doesn't cover)



I'll have Adrik in Airi's wig in a bit. It's amazingly hilarious.

I don't mind the one photo per post limit 'cause I'm pretty sure that it's actually always been the rule for discussion threads 'cause that's how it's been in the mnf thread and pukipuki thread for as long as I've been lurking them, and just not every discussion thread was actually obeying the rule.

anyway, I really have nothing new to contribute to the discussion since I haven't been doing much with the dolls lately, but I am starting to plan Lena's halloween costume ^_^ she's going to be River Tam from Firefly/Serenity.
so if anyone knows who I'm talking about and where I can find some boots like hers for a decent price that would be great, but I'm thinking I might just try to make something myself.

I need to be thinking of some Halloween costumes for my troupe... I was thinking of trying to get them all in a theme, but I can't think of anything. Elle and Halo are DZ (Shoyo and Hid) and Carroll is a LTF/Ai hybrid (Rachel). I can't think of anything that spans the two sizes. Thoughts, anyone?

I'm still contemplating what to do my boys up in for Halloween...I was thinking of pulling from four different inspirations for them. Make them all from something different. I want one of them to be from Ouran, maybe one from AvatarTLA, and the others I can't decide

What do you guys think Alexei would look good as?

 

"Ah, the pitter-patter of tiny feet in huge combat boots" Lena will make a very cute River. I don't recall seeing too many similar boots and as mentioned, they would likely be pretty spendy. If you get desperate enough, I can loan you a pair of Iplehouse boy boots that are fairly close, but they will be huge huge. Your best bet is probably going to be making them yourself.

Sadly I will not have time to make Halloween costumes for anyone here, which at least relieves the difficulty of deciding what to make. I could never get everyone on the same theme.

I sent my camera with my boyfriend to WizardWorld this weekend, so I can't contribute any new Plum spam for a while, not that I have much of it anyway. However, there is a (general) doll show coming up next month that I am going to in hopes that I can get Plum another Halloween dress. I got her one there last year that is so cute that now she needs another one! My dolls get cute outfits, not costumes, for Halloween.

 

Hmm I haven't even thought about Halloween. Gah there's an anime con that weekend so I suposse I should get some short of costume or outfit together for the dollies. This will be there first Halloween! Maybe I can get fanfic to Make Airi a simple dress out of Halloween fabric and maybe toys-r-us would have something Yuuma sized. I'll have to check before I head back to Nac in a week and a half. No toys-r-us' in Nac.


oh and sand just so you know while typing that I kept putting "Halowen" instead of "Halloween" lol.

I actually came up with the idea while I was contemplating making her a mohair wig 'cause while River's hair isn't black, black will be close enough and it's really more about the length/style than the color anyway.
the IH boy boots are actually really close aside from that they're all shiny and new, where hers appear to be either dark grey suede or really worn old black leather. I think I'm going to try to make them since I have some old faded black fabric that would mimic the look of grey suede pretty well ( 'cause real suede is expensive D: )

as for the outfit, I'm thinking that I want to do something like this one, but probably more just in the general style rather than an exact copy of the outfit. or maybe the green sundress from the fight scene, and I could make the weapons out of sculpy; but I dunno 'cause the default dollzone hands aren't so good for looking like they're gripping something so she may not actually even be able to hold them :/

 

Leekeworld has some nice strappy boots, but they get a bit pricey :/

 

if I could afford it I would buy the IH boots that thegashlycrumb posted 'cause they're pretty darn close and I plan to get a JID boy at some point in the future anyway so he could wear them later on, but I'm on a pretty tight budget currently, so I'm going to try my hand at making some myself.
I actually found a pattern for msd size boots which I think will work perfectly, I'll just have to add a few straps to them.
and now that I've found a pattern that seems to have worked for other people, I don't think it should be much trouble at all 'cause all that was really worrying me before was that I was going to have to just make it up as I go along xD

So I had some fun with Adrik today. Though I think Adrik is going to kill me lol.

 

Ooy, I had to tighten Plum's strings again today, and remove the kips in her legs because they weren't helping and were getting in the way. I don't know if I should just all out replace the strings, or wait to see how long this lasts. She's looking a lot better though.

At least they allow photos in this thread at all. The mods over on the SD boards are pretty strict about it. Or at least, in the Luts Delf thread.

I'm moved in for grad school, and I've got the crew with me, although things have still been too crazy to take them out. There's a pretty duck pond next to my building, so I predict pretty waterside photos in the future for them.

 

Dollzone out with a new 45cm boy - Raphael! He sure is weird looking though.
He reminds me of my notdoll Peru and notdolls particularly.

He has ugly lips. Its just not my thing. They're way too super exaggerated for me to like how they look. Kind of like the SD girls they made before with the fish-lips thing going on. Ew. Plus he's open-mouthed and I don't like open-mouthed dolls. *pats her Mo* I'm good. If anything I'll someday end up with a boy Annie, because that is one ugly boy doll. o-o

I've been too busy sleeping and working to take photos or anything. I am such a bad dolly owner. XP

 

I like Raphael's eyes, but the lips are too odd for me. They make me think of notdoll too and I'm not too fond of how notdoll does lips.

...Though Raphael looks more like a girl than a boy to me. @_@

 

ahahaha fanfic oh he was doing his level best to get out of this. The wig would not stay on. I had to fight it for 5 mins to get it to stay lol. And I was just messing around. He was in it for about 5 mins. long enough for me to snap some pics then I put him right back in his stuff.


and I agree the new boy is ugly.

 

There is something rather vapid looking about Raphael...maybe more pictures will help. So far, the only other DZ boy I really want is still a Mo.

Saw the new boy. I'm safe. He's really not what I was hoping for - like the shape of his eyes but his lips are weird to me (which seems to be the common consensus here). Like zekarmisama said, I think he'd work better as a girl.

I was also hoping DZ would stick with the theme they used for the new girls, because I love their outfits and wanted the male equivalent. I don't think that's gonna happen but I'll wait for promo pictures.

 

Hmm. I actually don't mind him so much. Granted, I don't want him and I don't think I ever will, but I don't think he's all that ugly. Actually, I find him a little endearing. The only thing I really don't like is the uber-protrusion it looks like his bottom lip has. I kind of hate the way the shadow down there looks, if it makes any sense. I can't really explain it.

I tried making Alexei a lined suit jacket yesterday...which turned out okay, but it doesn't actually fit him (I had to get really creative with closure ). I need to tweak my measurements a bit, give it some more shoulder room, but all in all it worked well and looks good on him I'll post a pic of him when I make a better one.

 

The newbie kinda looks derpyyyyyy XD I love it. I wouldnt get him but if a friend of mine had him, I'd spoil him rotten.

You know, I don't think the new guy looks so bad. His nose looks a little asymetrical from the absolute front angle, which I'm not fond of, but hopefully forthcoming pictures will give us a better idea of his dimensions. I was all kinds of prepared to be like "DO THE HERP A DERP!" after reading all of your comments before seeing him, but really... he's not so bad. I like him better than the new girls. ;p Now, no plans to jump in and get him, but I'm not putting a black mark next to him yet, either.

 

I honestly think that new guy ain't half bad. I wouldn't buy him but I would enjoy seeing owner pics of him. I think if I did fall apon buying him that I would get a girl's body for him. He's got a great eye shape to show expressions. c: I think more pics will be interesting to see tomorrow~

 

Hmm. The more I look at the new guy the more intrigued I am. I mean, I don't want him... but then again, who knows. I am generally not a fan of DZ promo pictures, and part of that is the face-ups (their style is not my cup of tea). I still can't stand the way Jake looks in his promo, and heck, the first time I saw that promo I did not like Jake at all. It was not until I saw owner pictures (*cough* fanfic *cough*) I fell as hard as I did. And when I saw him in person blank... holy cow, I was smitten.

I'll give the kid a chance. I want to see his blank face and see how his lips are actually sculpted before I pass judgement.

... still hope he has a similar outfit to the new girls, though.

PS: How did I miss all the adorable pictures of Adrik in a dress?! Brad would hate me if I ever tried that with him.

So, I came up with a plan. When I have money, I will get a boy and girl body, and then just buy heads. Then I can have all the Dollzone molds I want, and they can share their respective bodies. o_o I can't just give Dollzone all my money for the next 20 years and get whole dolls, can I? I have to save some of that to repay school loans and buy my darling's love. O_O

 

I'm not a fan of the new boy because I'm not big on doll teeth, but it breaks my heart that people are calling him downright ugly. I mean, what if this were a person? Or what if someone on the thread really wanted this doll, then saw all the comments? They'd probably be discouraged from buying the doll, or at least from posting any pictures in the thread...I feel like we all need to be a little bit more considerate on the issue.

clarke: That's true. But, we could all just sugar coat this and say that he doesn't fit in with the dollzone asthetic. It's the same as saying ugly. I'm sure if someone were in love with this doll he/she wouldn't hesitate to put his/her pictures of him in the thread. Owner pictures usually aren't as ugly as promo pictures.

 

Ooy, I guess so. People shouldn't be discouraged from getting the doll they want and posting pictures. But still, everyone has a right to their opinion, whether they like him or not. I think that a lot of threads go back and forth with these kinds of things when a new doll is released, and though it is kind of disheartening, if you like it, you don't really care because it doesn't matter what other people think. But yeah, maybe we should stop short of just outright calling him ugly. Just say you're not fond of the sculpt.
He has a bit of appeal for me though, and I'm a little curious as to what his blank head looks like.

 

Yeah, I agree that people should stop saying 'ugly'. =w= I know people have their opinions but if I said your doll was ugly, you wouldnt feel great, would you? Just say like "Meh, I dont like him." So people know you dont like him and dont feel so offended :/

 

yea his face is kind of weird...i wouldn't call it ugly...just unique....and some people love that type of dollies. mabye with a different faceup. or more photos of him comes out at the site.

A couple people know I won't keep my mouth shut about a certain DZ doll and what I think of it. Buuut I have not said anything on DoA about it. :3

I encourage people to post pics of the new boy, and get him! I want to see owner pics maaan! >:3 DZ pics don't do the dolls justice. I love my Demi-2, L'anana, most out of all of my DZ dolls, but I never see anyone in this thread with a Demi! ;~; SHE IS SO CUTE. Moving her eyes around in her head make her explode with expression. This new boy has big eyes like her, I think he will be just as expressive. c:

 

I actually really want to see the blank pics too. I don't like dismissing a sculpt off the bat until I've seen it in a few lights. So blank, new faceups, what have you. I'm starting to find him endearing, actually. I dunno. I do like some of Notdoll's sculpts too (your Peru was the one that made me look at them different, bullets) so maybe that's why.

 

It's not like I was discouraging anyone from getting him I just really don't like him. Which is probably a good thing since I really do not need any more dolls on the wishlist.

 

Oh, I didn't even realize he had little teethies! I'm not a fan of teeth either, but I bet you could get away with not painting them if you bought the head blank. I'm with y'all, I wanna see some blank pictures before I decide whether or not he's a potential future buy.

Well... Oops. Mah bad then. I don't have a softer opinion, as the more I look at him, the more I don't like him at all. It's just a flat statement. I still think it. But then again, I don't like open-mouthed dolls or dolls with lips like fish either. He greatly reminds me of the Clovera, Beeta and Violetta SD dolls with their out-of-whack faces. I don't like him, and unless it's just some drastic over-painting, his mouth probably won't look a lot better blank.

Good thing I'm just not that sensitive I guess, as there are probably people who do think my guys look awful or are wearing bad clothes. But it's the best I can do, so meh. I'm just blunt I guess. Oh well. I'll wait on those blank pics of a head. Maybe it'll be better then. But I was really hoping for an awesome face, possibly a scowl and big eyes. I don't mind the eyes. They eyes are good. Its the mouth that makes me cringe.

 

I like that they are trying something different instead of going for the same style. If the same things came out over and over again, then it became boring/uninteresting.

 

Different is one thing, but this is way past different and into 'Uhm ew' territory. But like I said, I don't like that style of face, 's just not my thing. Like I said, I was looking for them to come out with something as fabulous as the new girls, but instead.... Blah. XP

As for my personal opinion of Raphael... When I first saw the photo I couldn't help thinking he reminded me of a my next-door neighbor girl when I was 6. o_o;; I actually don't mind certain sculpts with teeth (like TinTan), but since entering DoA's "Almost Doll" contest and trying to emulate doll lips, unrealistic lips are starting to bother me (probably because they look so uncomfortable <_<;; ). I like the shape of his eyes and I think the size of his nose is kind of different and intriguing. I do think he really does look kind of feminine, though, even with the larger nose.

 

I'm in the minority. I typically love dolls with open mouths.

DZ does custom face-ups?! Really? I was not aware of that.
