Dollzone Discussion ~ 60 and 70cm ~ Part V

Mar 2, 2014

    1. kicking it off with my exciting dolly day LOL - SO EXCITED!!! And so relieved too - my weeks of torment over Una's 'body problem' are over! :sumomo:

Call me slow - but it finally dawned on me today, as I prepared to pack away my Una yet again, because the 62 body doesn't suit her, and I gave my AoD one to my son for Christmas *sound of teeth grinding in frustration at my own stupidity* ...... then I had an idea :o Would my son's doll's head fit the dollzone 62 body? My last hope - my total joy when yes indeed IT FITS!!!!! :dance The clothes he liked (all from Alices Collections for 1/3 size - stockings home-made - boots releaserain on ebay) still fitted too - in fact you'd barely notice any difference - her legs are longer and she looks very smug and delighted with her posh new body! Her head's much bigger than Una's so it looks more in scale than Una's head did I think - and although her neck size is slightly bigger, it's not noticeable at all (unlike when I tried Clovera's massive head on the dollzone 62 body!)

    2. Elve - Congrats on solving your body dilemma :)

And some new thread spam of Astrid spying on the neighbors

    3. Ohh, dolly peeking! I like it.....

Elve - Yay!!! Whew.....now you can go back to the regularly scheduling planning everything else in our never ending doll sagas....

    4. Elve: Oh I like that a lot for the AoD head. It really looks good! Im glad you got the body issues done with XD

    5. Oh, first page spam?

heh, I should make her some new clothes at some point.. or something..

    6. thanks Girrl - I am starting to think your new girl is a total exhibitionist!

thanks Fush - yes I was surprised how good the Qian head looked on that body - I have fallen in love with her all over again! But she now belongs to my son! :doh

thanks dollhausen - it's like a weight off my mind now - I have been SO preoccupied with it, and angry with myself, and OBSESSED in a bad way - Now I can return to that more enjoyable obsession - the next doll on my wishlist! :fangirl:

Meanwhile..... I managed to dress the wonderful winged Stramonium (Elodie) today too! Some home made stockings (the one thing I can make!) a net petticoat from Alices Collections for about $7 and a scarf from an outfit! Really love her though - I had her up for sale last week, and I'm sooooo glad nobody bought her now I've put these wings on!

    7. oh just one more before I go to bed - The girl who caused all the problems - Una! (she's called Eudora, just to confuse matters more!) Here she is, FINALLY out of the wig box and on her permanent body :fangirl: The Angel of Dream body was going to go to Clovera, but the resin match is better for dollzone's super pale 'pink' from 2013, when I got my Una, so I left Clovera on her default body after all. This is a nicely proportioned body for a normal human type doll, especially a lady of more mature years such as Eudora - Although I don't like the 'claw' hands, I do love the feet - the way they point down is great when the doll's sitting like this, as it looks more graceful I think.

    8. I agree, she looks good on that body and those are nice looking feet. Does AoD make other hands?

    9. I just got a new shelf for my dolls since the other one had to be converted to a book shelf XD And twins and Hazel who has a body in pieces wanted to try it out together XD I can't test a 1/3 doll in the cube shelves yet as no one is officially together yet but hopefully soon :D

    10. LOL poor Hazel - she looks like 'guys!!! Don't drop me now!!!' :XD:

thanks dollhausen :) AoD don't do any other hands no - they are fantastic quality for the money though so I can't really complain! tanjalalie is planning on getting one for her Beetta head, and thinks she may be able to cook the hands in hot water and change their shape - I am looking forward to seeing if this works, and I guess it might - I'm not brave enough to try it myself :sweat

    11. I was just realizing today that DZ only has the 56cm girl body at the moment. How odd. I've got a head I'm looking at and was examining my spreadsheet of SD bodies and their neck sizes to see what would match. It was looking like the old 62cm body would be perfect but went to the DZ site and it's sold out. I was thinking by now they would have released something else but apparently not. So I'm back to the drawing board on that one.

Elve - Yes, others have done that with hands and it seems to be common enough. If Tanjalalie's experience works out are you thinking of giving it a go? After that massive restringing you should be full of confidence these days!

    12. dollhausen - they did - in nov/dec the two SD girls, and 2 msd girls with wings, in jan the two msd boys with wings (all with new bodies too!) and in feb the action dolls. We just like to see more :)

    13. yes I think it's such a shame for someone like me who mainly wants 1/3 girls - I go to dollzone and there's NOTHING :horror: except 2 rather small 1/3 girls - I like em bigger! I've got my tan Jeremy on order though - I am looking forward to seeing the latest version of tan!

As for neck sizes dollhausen I was surprised the AoD head fitted the 62 body as the neck sizes differ by almost 1cm (dz 62 being slimmer) I think it has more to do with the head design though, as the Clovera head I have, which has the same neck as the AoD body - had a HUGE gap around it on the 62 body, and made an awful grating sound if I moved it! The heads of Clovera, Beetta etc. are unusually large - the slot for the head hook is so enormous the hook needs to be turned upside down! So it's very hard to predict from neck size alone which will fit - especially when you don't know if the company stats are accurate or not.

And although cooking the hands may work - I don't think I'll bother LOL - the thought of any more restringing makes me feel all faint :shudder

    14. elve - those DZ 1/3 bodies that they do have now would be perfect for my 3 DIM love heads.... They are very pretty. I just wish those bodies had thighjoints... (and my wallet was bigger)

    15. Elve - I literally thought of this username at the last moment, but I'm glad someone likes it!:blushAs for clothing I could probably try to alter it, but I'd be worried about accidentally stuffing it up - I'm bad enough at making regular human-sized clothes!

    16. so far I've found Alices Collections very good, although I don't have Raymond or any other doll on that 70cm body - they do a 70cm option for most of their boy's pants and tops. Might be worthwhile just buying a couple of cheap separates, just to see if they fit OK?

    17. Eek! I have to hurry and contribute to the First Page Spam - though when I add my picture, it may just jump to the second... :p

I have been pondering the outfit for my winged Morgana lately... I need to get some black transparent fabric, I think. She'll be the opposite of her non-winged counterpart, who, as you can see, is very well-covered :). Quite apart from figuring out which ready-made clothes will fit, I'll pipe up and say that *making* stuff that fits isn't a walk in the park either. Though I guess it might be, if only I knew what I was doing.

    18. I like the style the New bodies of all sizes so far. Mostly the event body. Such a small size for a mature like body. For the 62cm big body I love the legs and form.

Ironically with the wing arms I keep fussing with it to see how tight I can get it with working wings. I found the length I need its just how tight I can get it to say. She just might have to suffer with floppy wings since its near impossible to get it the right tightness :/

    19. Fush - Good thing you got the 62cm body now that it's as dead as the dodo. I just thought they would have replaced it by now. I'm going to measure the neck I'm looking at because the 56cm body may work since I think the neck is around 8cm. But I would have liked a taller body....

    20. Yeah I am glad as its one of the reasons why I got Una (came as Hazel lol) because of the body and wings. I also love Una's face also Hazel's face works just as well. I'm hoping DZ makes bigger bodies in the style they are in now. Like I would die for a 1/3 scale doll of the Event doll body of Dale/wendy. Its too perfect XD

Speaking of which I started slowly on Hazel's wig. Its going to be very long XD I'm modeling it after another Character I have (will make him one day lol since he would be such a fun guy to dress!)

    21. I'm glad Hazel's inspiring you again Fush - good luck with the stringing! I got the wings as tight as was possible without breaking the resin - but they are much heavier than arms and don't pose very easily, bearing in mind if they come crashing down onto her legs, they may get damaged. They are such beautiful wings though - I really love their sculptural quality in different lights they look lovely unpainted, so I think I'll be leaving mine (also I doubt I can do a good job of painting them!)

I'm really happy with the way my winged Stramonium is dressed now (see page one photo) - although it's not blue as I originally intended, it looks cute I think (and importantly for me right now, it cost nothing LOL) - she's definitely my favourite doll at the moment :fangirl: I have been thinking, since I don't want to take off her wings to dress her in a sleeveless dress as planned originally - I will cover her breasts up with various 'collars', bibs and scarves - quite easy really. Of course dressing her bottom half is no different to dressing any other doll.

    22. Elve - I have been browsing Alice's Collections and there are some really nice pieces in there. Perhaps a simple/cheap top will indeed give me an idea of sizing.

Sigune - I know how you feel in regards to making clothes, though practise makes perfect right?

    23. [IMG]

Fox got covered in cute things at the last meet. He insists the birdie is for his friend.

    24. that is a gorgeous wig Rockin' Resin Addict - especially with that cute hat :XD:

    25. I'm glad things are working for you with your Hazel, Fush. elve, is your son happy with the body switch?

And agh, it's been such a long time since I've been in here...mostly because I've had some interesting developments with my dolls. I'm a pagan, religion-wise, and I believe that inanimate objects can gain life, and also that obsessively-held ideas can become sentient spiritual entities - thought forms, they're called.

So after some research, I realized that what I have with at least two of my dolls, and probably a third now too...is that they're alive, and connected to these thought forms. You see, all my dolls are characters in a story I've been trying to write (with varying amounts of success) for the last 8 years. Silfe and Joren have been the most clearly defined characters, and have received a lot of mental energy from my creative efforts. Tam is another story. He's one of the older characters, but he's been radically redefined, and has received much less "food" from me.

The way I view it, my dolls are actually alive. They're not going to get up and walk around, and they're not going to strangle anyone when they're asleep:sweat....but they have a life force. This is especially apparent with Joren and Silfe, my favorite dolls. Not only have I put a lot of energy into creating their characters, but I've put so much effort into the dolls that represent them.

This actually seems to explain a lot about Silfe, and how he seems to interact with me. When I first got him, he rode around in the crook of my elbow, cradled like an infant. He doesn't go for that now. It's as if he's "grown out" of it. I did a photostory a little while ago, of me taking pictures of him, and him being terribly irritated. The dialogue came so easily, that I can't help but believe (as I always have, in a way) that Silfe was really communicating with me.

But now I've gone and written an essay when I didn't mean to.*_* Right now, Silfe seems to be sulking from all the extra attention Joren is getting from me, seeing as she's become my familiar spirit. He knows he's welcome to be a familiar, too, but he seems to prefer feeling wronged.

Here he is, sulking in my bed, where he's been the past couple of days.

      Sulking! by Redfaery1987, on Flickr

    26. that's an interesting concept Redfaery! I know when I was a child my dolls really were alive to me - and even now I find it impossible to see them as just inanimate objects - like a book or a vase. I feel guilty for selling them or neglecting them, etc. A little afraid of my dz Pandora too - I guess it's why I'm only comfortable with 'friendly-looking' dolls as a rule. I do think as humans we automatically respond to something resembling the human face from birth, so it is hard not to feel emotion towards dolls in some way.

As for the body-swap - well my son wasn't really interested in his doll before, and he's not really bothered about the body swap either. I love it though - I want my dolly back now she's got the dz body - she looks so great!

    27. Thanks Elve! I think the frilly things actually suit him, but he's not so happy with me!

It is indeed a very intriguing notion. I don't see my dolls the same as I would a pen for example. I'm also aware they don't have human life. I think it's their characters which are a live to me, and since those are manifested in the dolls themselves, I consider them to be alive in a different way than the literal sense of the word.

    28. That's very interesting Redfaery! You see.. Both my sister, and my uncles girlfriend "sense" things.. My sister is in the hobby, while uncle's girlfriend is not.. Yet both of them sense "something" from the dolls :3 Uncles girlfriend said she sensed quite a few of hour dolls seemed to be "waiting" for something, most probably being completed :3 One of my dolls (not topic for this thread as she's an MSD, Miac my DZ Aimi), also had this feeling of waiting, until she was picked up because then the feeling changed and she seems full of life. This of course I find very interesting, as she's always in my eyes been a character that craves attention (and new stuff) more than any of the others, she's a spoiled brat.. Err, I mean princess >_>
When she doesn't get what she wants, she does not cooperate AT ALL! :P I don't think I've actually decided any of my dolls styles or personalities now that I think of it.. Hrm.. I don't consider myself to belong to any religion, yet I agree with your theory there :3

Er well, somewhat off-topic, and also most probably very confusing, since I wrote this while veeeeeery tired from work >_<
Haven't been very active lately, and probably will be inactive for a while longer.. Won't be having any "free" spare time for a while, and work really tires me out atm >_<

      Picspam?

    29. I think all dolls are alive to some point since each doll have its kinks and personalities to make them unique plus the different wigs, eyes, clothing, and even face ups even cause more to set them apart. I see that with my Hazel even if shes stuck in a box with her body in pieces XD She has a lot of personality when I got her. From what I seen from her she has a lot of pride and one of the reasons why I didnt change her head to a Una because she kind of told me no XD

    30. beautiful girls Darque - love Beetta in that wig :D

    31. I got my Clovera girl in tan a couple of weeks ago and almost forgot to show her anywhere. :sweat So if anyone's interested in this kinda rare mold, here she is, still blank:

I snagged her up when DZ announced their latest major discontinuation and I'm sooo glad I did, she is just so cute, especially in tan skin. I was a little disappointed with the transparency of the tan resin at first, but now I'm more used to it and kinda like it. I was just expecting the opaque resin of my other DZ dolls (Anson and Moment). I think Clovera will become a Bravoosi dancing girl (from Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones). I hope you like her, even though she is still blank. :)

    32. I think out interaction with objects has always been to invest them with use value for purposes or metaphorical value as talismans. In the former they serve their purpose (like an axe to cut down a tree) and in the latter we invest time and energy in them as they become objects of focal significance (religious icons) or representations we interact with. As much as people say they don't care about use objects people have their favorite axe or gun, swords have been said in many cultures to have mystical value etc. So our relationships with all objects takes on many forms. For myself, if dolls were just a collectible to be put in a box then I would have zero interest in them. If I didn't find some creative relationship with them as being connected to and thereby animated by my imagination then I wouldn't have gotten attached and interested as I've become. I had a doll that just didn't work out and I put her up for sale. When I was boxing her up I had a real feeling of remorse. Fortunately I traded her to someone who really likes her and got a doll in return that I'm totally smitten with. But when I sold some extra cameras I had lying around I didn't have similar experience. There's more to all this meets the eye and as Darque has pointed out, a lot of that comes from us, what we bring to bear on the situation.

    33. she's gorgeous Zomboid :fangirl: I totally LOVE my Clovera - she's just the most adorable doll I have - I wish I'd bought 2 now, while I had the chance! But then I think I'm lucky to have even one of her - she's so special!

    34. That's interesting, dollhausen. And dolls have so much more significance both from a metaphysical and a cultural standpoint because they look human - they have FACES. Even people who don't play with dolls or believe in the supernatural can get uneasy when they see violence being done to a doll, and they wouldn't react the same way at the sight of a toy car or a rubber ball being mistreated.

Speaking of dolls, I caught Silfe in a surprisingly relaxed moment with Tam this morning. He's going to kill me for posting this. (No, not literally. But he will be rather cross).

    35. Zomboid, she's lovely! I'm discovering the older DZ sculpts now that they are discontinued - they look so much better in owner photos than they do on the site, I think. Your Clovera's tan is really nice, too. I'm curious to see her turn into a Braavosi! (I always think Venice when I read about Braavos.) :)

Darque, Miac and Rhiarra are so nice together! They look like they may be related.

Re: dolls/objects - I think I'm a very materialistic sort of person, not in that I'm obsessed with possessions but in that I get attached to objects. I find it almost impossible to throw most things (old and even tattered clothes and shoes, plush and other toys...) away, I have difficulty selling things, and I have strong favourites (mugs, pens, bags...) of some stuff that I find difficult to replace or the loss of which can make me really sad. I'm even attached to my computer or to my old mobile phone - I wouldn't think of replacing them until they really and truly break. At which point I'll be sad because they are broken, though I enjoy new toys as much as the next person.
So my dolls... yes, I'm really attached to them too. I don't get the whole "oh noes my doll is yellowing, I'll get a new one" thing, because my doll is my doll and yellowing isn't going to change my attachment to it. I can envisage getting a new version, but not getting rid of the old one.

But do I consider my dolls as having a spirit? Nope. At the end of the day, they are artfully shaped pieces of plastic. I really hate it when people suppose that they are my substitute children or something. They embody my characters and as such they are extra dear to me, but my relationship with them is, as far as I am concerned, very comparable to my relationship with my drawings. I style my dolls and create my drawings in order to bring the people in my head to life (figuratively speaking :P), but it's a life in the realm of the imagination. At the same time, I think it is true that there is something special about dolls, and the fact that they are freestanding objects makes them more 'real' than a picture. That is what makes it attractive to me to have doll versions as well as drawings of my characters.

    36. Please keep up the spam everyone! And are there more people with one of the 4 sisters - Clovera, Beetta, Violetta and Morphoa? I would love to see more pictures of them!

    37. Ah, look at all these great shots!

I am loving the spam as well! Keep it up!

I am waiting for spring weather to do some painting on the Beetta head which is slowly starting to mellow :D I also will blush Morphoa's body when weather allows, I can't wait!

Elve, that is indeed the golden solution! So glad it came to you, why didn't we think of that sooner? :fangirl:

When I have money or a present occasion comes around again, I still plan to get the AoD body and yes, the hand cooking is still on the agenda too!

    38. thanks tanjalalie :fangirl: I came that close to selling winged Una too - she was up for all of a week! So glad no-one was tempted, as I now have the body I want for my Una, and wings for my Stramonium - really love both of them! And my son is none the wiser - I think he's forgotten already :)

    39. Elve: same here XD It seems No one wanted to be temped I had her up for a week too for my winged hazel. Oh well just as well I found my idea. Really the idea just needs wing painting, ear painting, and face up. Possible body blushing too before the real work happens.

    40. mainly the reason I was selling her was I didn't think I could string the wings on LOL - well it was HARD WORK - but worth the effort, in spite of having to re-do it about 4 times as the elastic was too long - nightmare! :sweat

    41. Thank you elve and Sigune for your nice words! I can see the relation between Venice and Bravoos, I love the idea of that place. And I was really sad when DZ discontinued their small SD girls, as I was dreaming of a Beetta or Morphoa aswell. But Clovera has been on my wishlist for so long now (even in tan skin) that I couldn't not get her. :) She truly is soooo cute!

    42. So my newest doll is a DZ Moon - I was super glad to grab the last one at a doll market about a month ago from a company called Indollgence who are sadly closing down. I've named my little darling Valeriana, she's super shy (and in desperate need of clothing).

    43. You should post her in the DZ BB thread! We'd love to see her there :aheartbea

      Edit:

    44. Perhaps I will once I get the silly thing to upload the photo.

    45. Yay my Una head came in the mail today and I am SUPER EXCITED! she is so much more stunning than the photos and I will take and post some photos soon ^__^

I am in a pinch thought. I got her a luts Delf body thinking they would be a match and they are ok size whose but what I have is so yellow the resin will never match. I also just went and looked at the new DZ 1/3 body and I love it but it says in the description that it won't fit the older heads and I am rather upset about that >.<

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but anyone have any good hybrid body ideas? My una is in WS so it may be easer…

      :aheartbea

    46. imoto Congrats on your Una head - I love my Una :fangirl: And I happen to have hybrid her as I didn't like the default body for her character - Angel of Dream fits like a dream - the only problem I had was Una's ears fasten onto her head with an elastic band, and the AoD body has a large head hook, so I couldn't get the ears on - so she has no ears for now - A new, smaller head hook would solve that problem though. See page one of this thread - post 8 - for a photo of this hybrid - both are in 'pink' skin.

I would recommend Alices Collections as a dealer for AoD - AoD are tricky to deal with direct. I got a 1/4 AoD body from Alices earlier in the year and it was only a month till dispatch.

Tengu Transformed by Redfaery1987, on Flickr

Silfe has his wings! They're magnetic; in this photo, they're holding into some safety pins I fastened to his clothing, but I'm planning on gluing a magnet to him so he can wear them whenever he wishes.

    48. hmmm - are they on upside down Redfaery? I think he likes them anyway - he looks kind of pleased with himself :XD:

    49. Imoto - I don' know if this is relevant or not but when I went to the last doll market where I live I was able to compare Azrael's body (DZ new 1/3 male) with some of the older models up for sale and it was quite a bit bigger ad bulkier than the old version. Sadly I was unable to try head swapping - I was only told how to remove a doll's head on the way home with a friend. Kinda helps considering I would've had a hard time getting his new clothes on without that bit of knowledge...

    50. elve: they are right-side up. They're just a bit fluffy up top. And yes, he's very pleased with himself, even though I was a bit disappointed at how small they look on him. Actually, it makes him look very saucy!

    51. Hello imoto, sorry I can't help you better with the body! I haven't tried Una on any other bodies. I'm guessing she would have been fine on my Ragnell's 5stardoll body too, but the resin match would have been off - 5star's is creamier. The other WS I have is Granado's (would be a terrible match) and more Dollzone. All I can say is that the Dollzone 62 cm body is quite narrow and reedlike (it just has really long legs) and that Una will probably look good on a smaller SD body - but since you have tried her on a Delf body, you know that already.
In any case, I'm curious to see what you will do with her!

Aww, those wings make Silfe look kyoooooooot! Or is that the wrong thing to say, Redfaery? ;)

    52. Sigune: he'd object, but I have it on good authority (Joren) that he secretly likes it.

In any case, he's taken to parading about buck naked.

    53. oh my - that boy is such a diva Redfaery! :XD: Have to say he looks better naked with the wings too - they just look so perfect with his hair and those eyelashes etc - he's very cute :D

    54. Agreed! His eyelashes are stunning.

    55. Refaery - Silfe is looking handsome as ever, and absolutely fabulous!

I finally bought Jazz her weapons, a flintlock pistol and a cutlass. I'm a bit worried about the cutlass because it is a large letter opener, but here's to hoping it'll work for her! If not, I'll have a kick-ass letter opener.

    56. oooh she's so gorgeous IzabethS :fangirl: I'm wondering just which shade of 'tan' my Jeremy will arrive in - she's a lovely colour and I'm not bothered if he's darker either, but I would like to have an idea so I know what wig to get - It's hard to dream up a character when I've no idea what he'll look like really!

    57. I'm always partial to pale wigs on tan dolls, I love that palomino look ;) (just my $0.02)

I usually don't edit my pictures after I take them, but I spent a couple hours this last weekend playing with pictures of my favorite muse, Leliana, and came up with some really interesting images (and I'm so in love with the 65cm body, I really, really wish they hadn't discontinued it :...()

    58. that's beautiful Girrl :D And I too keep looking at my dolls and think 'WHYYYYYY? did they discontinue them?' *big sigh* Oh well - at least we have one to gloat over....And yes I had thought blonde for a tan Jeremy - I decided he'd be Scandinavian and called Lars - long blonde hair, blue eyes :XD:

I had a 'dolly day' today - because I'm worth it.... changed out the eyes in my Una, having noticed they totally filled her eyewells with blue. Nice eyes, but too big at 16mm for her - she has a very small head too! I took out her huge eyelashes too - not sure about that - and not sure about the new eyes either as they're dollzone's 'pale iris' type - which I have loads of, because I usually swap them for a more solid colour. She's now wearing a 1/4 boy's short wig from dollzone too - which looks great - my camera batteries are dead though!

    59. Well, I need to pay more attention to this thread! Ruki's been having some work done today, so here's a photo for you all :D New text and skull tattoos on his neck/collarbone, and a bunch of scarring. He still needs piercings >.<
