Hey guys! Have you seen the new doll that Dollzone has up for sale? A big 75cm version of Gray! He’s on sale from 10 May - 20 June 2024. I’m sure there’s a market for this doll, he’s very pretty, but I’ve never really cared for adolescent boy sculpts on big muscular bodies.
Ironically I ordered their Aska sculpt to be the older version of my 60cm Gray then they release an actual 75cm version. But if I'm being honest? I'm glad I went with Aska. He's got a more mature face shape and looks older. Love the 75cm Gray though, he's very handsome.
@TokyoLynn, yes, Gray is a very handsome sculpt. I've always been tempted to get him in the 62cm version. I gotta say, I'm looking forward to your Aska arriving. He's really gorgeous. And, I think that his more mature face suits the 75cm body.
Dollzone seems to have a new China-exclusive 77 boy, YunChi, and I'm probably going to take the plunge. This is the coolest dragon head I've seen since Whale Tower Rafayeh, and the fact that his head seems kinda small has me hopeful that I could hybridize him on a smaller body...and LOOK at that MAKEUP! The stock one's in white resin though, so I'm worried I'd lose his cute little white nose if I got him in black resin like I was considering. I wish they'd shown his faceup on the black resin anywhere so I could compare...
Wow! Dollzone is really doing some cool dragons lately. YunChi is absolutely gorgeous! @Oculae, congratulations if you do decide to take the plunge! He is pretty awesome.
hello! so I totally fell in love with DZ's new body for the males...I really want one but I noticed they don't do dark skintomes... is this true or am i missing something?
@aki7 Generally they don't. Occasionally they'll do an event where they offer a darker resin color for a specific sculpt.
oof i guess i'll really have to keep my eye on their special ones! my hope has not been dashed (and my wallet is scared haha!) thank you
My boy Kei Kou, he will be getting a wig soon that I hope will work on him. Kei Kou by SteamWitch, on Flickr
Thanks for sharing Crow Demon! I clicked on the links and saw your Leung. He’s a gorgeous boy. (I have such a crush on vampires dolls. ) I wish I could help and advise you on how to upload pictures from Flickr, but I only know how to upload from Photobucket.
SteamWitch, your fox-demon boy is gorgeous! I love the face-up you gave him. Can’t wait to see the wig you are getting for him.
hi @Crow Demon, your Leung is beautiful i can maybe help with advice about flickr- i think there's 2 main things: 1. choose the size of photo under the DOA limit, usually "medium" does the trick - this is why they don't show even when you've done it right, since the image size exceeds the ability of DOA to show it in message. 2. click on the down arrow and hover over the medium size and right click to copy the link there. that's what gets pasted in the image url space (square icon with little mountain inside) here in your message. last advice: one per post, or spoiler after 1st if feeling frisky LOL i get it wrong sometimes anyways, and it gives a download instead of the actual page, but it's at least 1-10 outcome for me LOL @SteamWitch i love to see your foxy boy too he is looking good, can't wait to see your thoughts on his wig I'm doomed for the dragons, i wonder how many they will do this year? ohhh my poor wallet LOL bring me those drrrrrragons...
oh yes, I've not done it from the phone app yet myself. maybe the main thing then is to select the smaller image size for the image link. PS- @Crow Demon - maybe it matters the OS or browser too, but I found another thread about it, the instructions look very different from what I do, so it might work for you if mine didn't /threads/to-share-flickr-photos.876470/ I think you might still have to use the image insert tool, the one between the smiley and the film bar icons when writing a message.
Dollzone has two new bodies! A 70cm (with head) female body, Sina Visitor System A 73cm (with head) male body, Sina Visitor System. A body posing video, Sina Visitor System. There's also a new 75 guy, Sina Visitor System Between this and Impldoll my wallet weeps.
Thanks Cloudedmind! I really like the new 73cm body. I like the more slender bodies over the huge muscled bods. The new boy looks interesting. *Ponders* hmmm.
@Rabbit-moon I just wish it had a thicker neck or at least an option for one like the shoulders since I could really use this body for my Lucius head.
who planning to take new snake-boy? (not sure if he is snake, but one of his tongues looks like snake) Spoiler: snake boy
3rd with the red-head love. I might have an embarrassing amount of red-heads in my collection. I love the long nail hands on this guy.
When is snakey boy planned to release? I need to check that price tag to see if I can keep my hopes high. Lol
today, I asked my dealer about all, he available at TaoBao atm not sure if I can post here link, check your pm
I don't necessarily feel safe using their taobao, so I'll wait. But I did check Alice & DZ's website with no snake-boy insight.
I would consider doing a layaway for him but I already have a dollmore on layaway. I will just have to live without him.
I saw that RD has entered the 50cm chat with their new release boy and he looks amazing. Why are the dolly gods tempting me so? Is it love for me or love of being cruel to me?
Legend doll I feel typically gets stuff up a little faster then ac. I've had about the same quality experience with both with big boys
Is anyone planning on buying Snakey Snake boy? It is a very nice day where I live and I have the day off so I decided to take some pictures of my Mr. Leung.
Oh congratulations. I didn't realize he was limited. I hope denver doll emporium lists him for sale soon. I may be able to get him with a nine month layaway.
thanks^^ Yep, I was surprised too, when my dealer said it's only 30 sets. So I was afraid to wait it for the next month. I hope u will take him too ^^ Which skintone u planning?
Oh no, I did not allow myself to buy new dolls this year (because I already bought two).. but...but..
As someone who has been around for a long time, no, this is not a fluke. DollZone has always made good-looking dolls. Maybe they weren't always everyone and their mother's cup of tea. Particularly the styling and face paint apps, but the sculpting was always decent. Even in the earlier years (I only own two ancient DZ dolls). They have greatly improved aesthetically over the years, but so has every other company that has been around for as long as DZ. I don't believe I've ever came across such a weird assumption for any other BJD company or artist before. Not saying it's bad, just really weird. DX
Well, my story is that I didn't know what a bjd was until the beginning of this year. Then, I started reading here [DoA] that the two biggest regrets users have were: not having a theme to their collection AND being prejudice about which doll size dominates their collection. Both decisions lead to a major overhaul of their collection; they sell it all and start a new. So, I was like "Maybe I should try a few SD sculpts". But, I felt like all of the companies were upsizing to 70cm+ dolls, and I'm like "if I wanted to make a couple in the future, having a collection of 60cm and 75cm dolls might not go well".) Then, I saw a head sculpt that was with a Dollzone body and I said "okay". And, when I started looking up Dollzone, I so far have not outright really disliked a sculpt, yet. Is that odd? But, the big guy will be my only Dollzone, so far. I wish I could've bought things like the "Nana" dolls, the dragon men, "The Beast", etc. (Including any 'in stock' Daisy sculpts, etc.) Wanting to buy all of them is not good for my wallet.
This hobby is constantly coming out with new sculpts and your wallet will weep because of that. Should you decide to pursue MP access here, it'll become dangerous for said wallet unless you have incredible restraint. I started off in this hobby 16 years ago thinking that I'd only have 2 because of their cost. I'm now at 83 full dolls (all male) and I've only sold a body because the character it was intended for hated it and the next one I tried with it several years later also hated it. I almost never buy just heads either. I'm also casually looking for doll #84 because I can't have unpaired dolls in-house. I also started with MSD but I'd say the bulk of my collection is SD, which was not at all what I thought it would be. My current favourite size is mature 50-ish cm boys. Sizes in my collection range from 5cm to 72cm. I have characters that are part of the same world and that are even related (father/son or brothers) and they can and do vary greatly in size. But as long as the pairing work with each other, I don't care if they are out of scale with others in their family as the fit of the sculpt to the character is far more important to me than having a homogenous family unit. And sometimes a very noticeable size difference is on purpose because of what the characters are. Funny enough, I have only 1 DZ at this time. Fei-Lau is an Edward (68cm), a sculpt long discontinued and, for some unknown reason, not popular at all when he was available. I think there's only 2 or 3 of us here on DoA with that sculpt and it wasn't limited. This is an older pic of Fei-Lau (white blonde at the back) with his husbands, Sleet (Soom Auber Storm Sprite in grey) and Khale (Leeke Khal Bloody Knight 7th Anniversary Edition, blue hair). Khale actually wears DZ armour claw hands as his default hands. And yes, Sleet is written as half the height of his husbands in their story, Absolute Destiny. Iron_Dog totally agree When I joined to hobby (13 years ago) I was sure I'll never have more then 20... but now I have over 100 and it wasn't my goal or smth. I loved old DZ, then they changed style, and it wasnt "my cup of tea'', and now they again changed and it's scaring me, cos I see in them some my game characters and can't to resist to not buy them
Yeah, I have a real soft spot for old, old sculpts in general. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't afford to buy them at their time of release and it's been so long now that finding them is very difficult. It's still possible for most as long as you can be very, very patient with a healthy dash of lucky. I agree @Riku LIN , that when DZ changed their sculpt style to be more similar with DC, I was like darn, I'm out, because that style wasn't my thing. While I do have 2 DC's, they are very much not human and that is my jam. I'm glad to see DZ moving away a bit from the DC styling and more into their own thing again. I know they're sister companies so some overlap in style is probably inevitable, but it I like the greater distance happening in their styles as it gives us collectors more options.
I feel you guys on the changed direction of DZ. I used to absolutely love their sculpts, but for the past several years their work hasn't felt like them, you know? I get that it's to appeal to a broader audience, but it's still a pity. I feel like Dream Valley reads more like Dollzone than current Dollzone does. I do have a few older sculpts at home (Chen, Stramonium, Shoyo, April classic, April new, Miss Kitty, Moon dragon, Scorpio, Snow, Doamiao, Mann, Sho, etc...) which got my heart in a vice grip. It's weird to think that all the Dollzones between my wife and my collection are discontinued, whether they were limited or not. I'm more interested in female sculpts than male ones, and Dollzone has been mostly cranking out pretty men I have no use nor need for. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think they looked great, but they just have no place in my collection.
Oh, u have Shoyo, I like her. She so rare now, I tried to find her at secondary MP, but saw only once in bad condition. From very rare DZ I have Ivan only, all other my old DZ was popular.
I don't know if any of mine were truly rare back in the day, maybe my April new, or my DC Snow Nymph, she was never really popular. A collage of most of the DC/DZ's in the household. Only missing are the two DZ Snow boys who belong to my wife (the April Classic is hers too), all others are mine.
Yeah, my Shoyo is the V3, she was a birthday gift from my wife back in 2012, so she's special. She's also the only doll I still have in my collection that I got in 2012, all others have moved on.
Your Chen is awesome @IzabethS . You have a lovely collection of old DZ sculpts. I have a real fondness for Wing, too, but I can't recall seeing him around in recent memory.
I feel like current DZ still feels like DZ to me, just more polished. It's like when I look at old OldXian art of her characters, and what they look like now. You can still recognize them as the same characters, but can also see she's gotten more polished with her work.
