Hope nobody minds if I sneak in here! I'm waiting on Sho (at the mo, to rhyme, haha). I think he'll arrive on Tuesday.

Sorry for everyone's crazy high customs fees. It's never fun, but I'm looking forward to seeing all the Sho and Mann photos!

Mine is in postal limbo and I'm hoping they can find her... I called on Friday as she was supposed to have been delivered last week's Friday, but has been stuck in "item distributed" since this Monday. Thursday was a holiday, but Friday when she still didn't switch to "out for delivery" I called the postal service and they finally took at where the heck she is. Turns out she's going in circles between depots, and apparently something wasn't right with the address. The CS Agent told me she sent a message to intercept the package so she gets out of the roundabout trip. She's been in postal hell for 40 days, and she got shipped priority.

At this point I'm just hoping she arrives. I would be devastated if she is "lost" and I get refunded... I really really want her, I bought dress, wig cap, feathers, and I have eyes set aside for her too. I even have the insane customs payment set aside in exact change for her.

 

@IzabethS Wow, that's ridiculous! D: I'm sorry that's happening. On the plus side, at least you were able to intercept the package in some way. Our postal services (UK) seem to take a really hands-off approach and even if you have tracking the attitude seems to be "it's completely out of our control, it'll show up when it shows up!" or "Sorry, you'll just have to wait until it's automatically returned to sender then have them ship it again!". I really hope they're able to properly redivert the package to you. It's already a long time to wait for priority mail!

 

@IzabethS - Oh gosh, I hope they can find her soon. Safe and sound would be great.

Here's her cute little face! Wow, I was not prepared for just how cute this face is. As I said earlier, I was after this doll for hybrid reasons, I was just going to put the unwanted parts together and on my to-sell pile. I might need to rethink that!
The only thing that was weird was that I was not given a magnet for the horn. It's not the end of the world, but it is a little strange when everything else has magnets!

Anyway though, here are some pics I think will be even more interesting, body comparisons! Under a spoiler since this is not a gallery thread.

Spoiler: Body comparisons!

From the front. Standard non-limited girl body (peach skin Mini Jing), standard non-limited boy body (white skin Niuniu), and Mann.


From the back. You might notice that Mann uses the boy body hands. I'm quite pleased with this, as they are a much nicer sculpt than the older girl hands imho. They have more detail and shape to them. The arms and rest of the body use the girl body as a base, though I notice some very small tweaks. The back here is smoother, but there's a bigger difference I'll detail later.


From the side. The tops of Mann's legs (presumably Sho's too) have a locking system so that they can stay in this digitigrade position much easier. It works really well, but is also entirely optional! You can actually straighten her legs out all the way, and you can also make her sit just fine. That she shares the boy body's hands is most obvious here.


The biggest tweak is the elbow! Mann has big gapping in hers, her upper arm and forearm cannot touch. I'm... not really sure why this is? I don't know the reason for the change from the girl body elbow peanut. It doesn't really matter, but I just thought I'd point it out! I suspect that her arms are not actually just the girl body arms. I think they might actually be some kind of hybrid/modification of the girl and boy body arms. Possibly an entirely new but very similar sculpt.

I will have pictures of the hybrid parts coming up too, I just have to finish stringing them. As a quick note though: I can see why DollZone told me no, even if I don't really agree with them! You can plug those digitigrade into the two non-limited bodies 100% no problem, they fit the sockets just fine. The one thing that doesn't work is the locking mechanism, because the non-limited bodies do not have as an extreme a mechanism. It will only take a very small bit of modding, very easy to do, a little milliput inside the joint. In fact I may even try hotgluing first, because friction alone might be enough to lock the leg. But I can see why maybe DollZone didn't want to really get involved doing that, and why they wouldn't allow a customer to buy that. However I can say that my brand new boy satyr looks absolutely ADORABLE. Worth it for sure!

My Mann seems to still be somewhere in postal limbo, still no updates since she left customs on the 20th at 2am... I may have to call the post office tomorrow again and ask "Eh? What gives???"

 

I know! So so cute! I really like how Mann’s face actually looks extremely similar to Jing’s. I wasn’t going to keep Mann, but she would make such a good sister because of the face. Hmm.... I really shouldn’t haha.

I really hope your doll leaves postal limbo soon, what a headache!

 

Still waiting for Cho : he has arrived in a neighbour country almost one month ago, I have said I would wait until shipping normalize... The wait is starting to become a little long...

 

Wow! Congrats Nattherat! Your Mann is adorable!

 

Okay, I brought a picture of my hybrid!


Pictured next to a Dollzone Mini Jing because the head is otherwise off-topic (It's a custom 3DP head with further sculpting and priming on top, about halfway done).

You can see how perfectly the legs fit into the slots, so there's no reason you can't put the hoof legs onto a boy body if you so desire like I have! I used hot-glue to build up the locks on the pelvis sockets, and now they work absolutely perfectly, they lock even better than the original doll. Whilst I was at it, I also hot-glued the knees and ankles so that the doll could stand up a little straighter (Originally the legs tend to snap back to the 90 degree angles, especially if they have any weight put on them), and now he stands like an absolute boss!

Since my hybrid is OT I can't really post more of him, but please check out this instagram post for a couple more pictures that show a cool pose he can now do haha!

I'm so glad that the stars aligned and I eventually ended up with this body combination after all haha. This doll has been in progress/waiting for about five years!

(I've also put the boy legs onto Mann's otherwise normal girl body, and whilst there's a little gapping because boy legs are slimmer, they do fit. I will post that at some point, but I'm currently struggling to get those minuscule s-hooks back onto the strings!)

 

Unintentional double-post, but here's the second hybrid I promised.



It's less likely anybody will be trying this combination vs borrowing the digitigrade legs, but I thought I'd show it anyway! Boy legs on the girl body modelled by Mann on the right, and normal girl body Mini Jing on the left. Just like the other hybrid, they fit the sockets completely fine (no hot-glue required this time), but you can see there is a very small amount of gapping at the socket as the boy legs are slimmer. It interferes with absolutely nothing though!

I'm still not settled if I will be keeping Mann, but she is so cute and she honestly looks like she's Jing's sister, their faces are so similar!

 

The more I see Jing, the more I like her. XD argh, dolls, you steal my heart!

(For everyone else who doesn't hear my rambling all day... I have a pink bear on layaway, and I know it'll be ages before I meet her, but I fell in love with her mournful little face right away. She will be my first dollzone girl, and I'm so hyped haha)

@IzabethS Sorry you're having trouble with the post. A similar thing happened to me a long time ago with a limited edition (off topic) doll, and chasing around the depots was a nightmare. So much empathy! Got my fingers crossed that your doll arrives safe soon! ^^;

I return with another picture, because I dyed Mann today!



Since I decided I was keeping her instead of Jing, I needed to make her a human skin tone rather than milk-colour. I used Rit Dyemore Apricot, and she came out with such a healthy glow! I have a habit of putting a lot of red in my face-ups, but especially when I'm painting ginger faces, so I was wanting the skin to be more yellow/orange to counterbalance the red I'd inevitably introduce. She came out lovely, the only uneven areas are the tops of the legs really, which as I stated before had yellowed (DZ/DC white resins make me sigh, I wish they were more stable) and I wasn't interested in sanding them to see if I could restore the white.

Now I need some clothes for her...

 

@nattherat that dyejob is fantastic!! I was a little concerned that Dollzone's resin would take dye poorly- I have a DZ niuniu I've been trying to get the nerve to dye brown. (I realize I'd seen your dyed DZ Candice on insta before too! )

Also, I love seeing the body swap and comparison photos, thank you so much for sharing those! I swore I'd seen subtle variations in measurements so this was very validating, lol!! I also wanted to know about how good the satyr-style body posing was too and gosh it looks really nice.

 

She looks amazing in this color! Like... wow, it sure changes her completely. She got even cuter, if that is possible!

Blossom, my Mann, had her tracking update two days ago. Still in the same location, still as "item distributed", but I'll take it. I'll be grateful when she finally makes it...

 

Thank you! I will say that DollZone’s habit of over-sanding their dolls can have an effect for sure. My Candice has more issues than Mann, but that might also be compounded by the fact that I used iDye Poly for her. However personally, I absolutely love the look of dye, over any resin tone, because I love how it gathers at edges naturally and gives a natural skin variation. So I am less upset by variation in the dye like some people might be; I don’t want it to be flat colour. I totally recommend dyeing your doll! But, definitely follow all the usual advice of making sure pieces are washed and dried first, and keep a magic eraser nearby so that you can tone down areas where the dye has taken unevenly if they are too dramatic. Lastly, don’t be afraid to use a combination of dye and airbrush, which is what my Candice has. Dye ensures she does not chip white when moved, and the airbrushing corrects a few places that were not quite right.

I’m glad the comparison pictures help! I think the boy legs on the girl body might actually be my favourite combination, it just looks so good imo! And yeah the hoof legs are amazing haha, I love them!

I know, I think so too! But I always think that about dyed dolls, I think it is because the dye always highlights features due to how it naturally pools, so its like a free subtle face-up haha.

I can’t believe how long your Mann has been stuck in the post, it’s ridiculous. I really really hope she finally gets to you soon.

 

@nattherat - Wow that dye job looks wonderful! Very natural looking! I've been wanting to dye my DZ Egg and DC Elizabeth for a while now, but have never worked up the courage to do it.

Hello! My in-stock Mann arrived today. And im confused on how to attach the horn
I have the horn and 4 extra magnets - but there is no magnet in the head nor a slot for me to put the extra magnets in for the horn to attach. It's probably me overlooking something because i'm stupid like that sometimes

 

My Mann arrived too finally, and I cannot get her horn to stay put either, @EtherealReflection. I'm gonna try and flip the magnet in the horn as currently it repels the headcap magnet in the forehead...

I don’t think mine has a magnet in the forehead at all? There is nothing for the horn to go on. Nor was I provided with a matching magnet for the horn. I ended up just using eye putty when I wanted to see how it looked.

 

Thanks @nattherat! I was given 4 extra magnets with her, but the horn repels the headcap magnet. Which is why I'm wondering if I can flip the magnet in it...

 

Ah! Seems like being given extra magnets is standard perhaps, and mine were missed out. Oh well! Luckily for me, I don't plan to use the horn.

I hope you can get it to work out!

She is beautiful! I contacted them yesterday and apparently DZ dont give the slot in the head for those extra magnets. I was told to just use the putty provided to attach the horn - but i think instead im going to drill a small hold inside the head for the magnets. I did the same kind of mod for my poulpy who i plan on making horns for

I thought of reversing the magnet too, but i realised the magnet for the head cap is far too high, the horn i think would look awkward in that position? I dont know, i just placed the extra magnets on the headcap magnet and its just too high for my liking. I want it like the DZ official photos.

Got my B27-010 body today, hadn't even realised it'd shipped yet~ Absolutely love it, it's just my aesthetic and poses beautifully. I'm not 100% sure about the hybrid (Flower and Junior Little Fox) it's not quite as bobble headed in person, but I'd likely have to get a wig and some clothes before deciding for sure. Otherwise I think it'd be cute with an anime style head.

 

@sugarstitch It is gorgeous! Do you happen to have any of the other DZ 1/6 bodies you could take a photo of it next to? I keep looking at this body a lot but I am never sure how well it will fit with others.

@sugarstitch Wow!! Oh that's just gorgeous, I'd been wanting to see this body more!! Do the hip joints hold poses alright even though they're round? I personally love the f&j head on it, it seems like it has a lot of possibilities for hybrids!

@Beedalee It really is, I'm so glad I got one~ There's a locking system in the ball to thigh joint so she's super solid which I'm grateful for aha. I love that aesthetic style, but the other dolls I have with similar joints are a massive pain to pose, especially my Dust of Dolls Appi.

 

@sugarstitch DZ 1/4? If you have time, I would love to see a photo of that too! I have a DZ Doreen myself, so seeing that body next to a 1/4, I should hopefully be able to extrapolate how it would look next to another 1/6!

I honestly never thought the body would be that chunky! It's actually hard for me to believe what I am seeing haha! Chunkier legs than the 1/4 body? In comparison, the other 1/6 bodies do not approach that size at all. That's really interesting though, it puts it at a completely different overall size than I was expecting.

I've also asked directly for photo comparisons so if I hear back I will post them on here!

 

Yep aha, the chunky thighs and hips are one of the main reasons I love her, I'm a fan of pear shaped bodies~ Oooh, that comparison includes all the 1/4 DZ bodies I have. Hopefully they can give a 1/6 comparison for you~

 

Yeah haha, that's what attracted me to the body too! It's not actually a negative, it only gives me reason to pause because I want to know if the body will stylistically fit with their other 1/6 bodies, or if it will look like an alien next to them, rather than natural human variation. Sadly I'm suspecting the former, which for once is not what I'm after.

But! I eagerly await their reply. I also asked them in the same message if they'll ever consider bringing the B27-006 body back. I am eternally disappointed that that body and associated dolls were never supposed to be limited, and yet were for sale for a month or so before disappearing forever. I really like the look of that body too!

 

Oh no it's me again!

The lighting wasn't great by the time I finished so the photo isn't great, but I did Merlin's (Mann) face-up today!

Sybil (the Candice sculpt) on the left and Merlin (Mann) on the right. Merlin doesn't have her gloss layer yet, but that's because I want to paint tiny little fangs in her mouth first.

Her clothes are on the way, so hopefully soon she'll be just as dressed up as Sybil!

I actually have another update. Merlin had several sealant mishaps because of the wind (this is mostly my fault!), but I honestly didn't want to wipe her, re-dye her, re-seal her, because that's a huge waste of materials when she's only been dyed for a couple of weeks. However I couldn't leave her because some stuff that had blown onto her face in the wind left a big gouged out discoloured space on her chin that was really apparent in day light.

So, just like Claris, the DiM/Doll Leaves doll that is her sister, Merlin also became a messy eater who has been smearing too much tomato puree onto her face.


That's just how much she loves tomato pizzas. I know Merlin might be a little less conventionally cute now, but I'm cool with her until eventually I feel like re-doing it. I refreshed Sybil's face-up a bit whilst I was at it, and she looks way way better now. Her eyebrows are stronger and she has some eyelid definition.

Thanks for putting up with the spam of my girls!

But, are you sure that it's pizza sauce? With her fangs, that red smear could easily be mistaken for something other than tomato-based.

Dollzone replied with that comparison between the B27-10 and other body that I asked for! Here it is:

I love it, I think they look pretty good together! There's definitely a stylistic difference, but they still look close enough to each other that they can occupy the same "world". I suspect that the comparison that Doll Chateau posted on their instagram is not correctly scaled. Here, the B27-10 has chunky legs but not to so extreme an extent that they'd be twice the width of the MSD body.

Unfortunately they actually weren't sure what I meant when I asked about the B27-006 body, and just reiterated that if a body is discontinued then it isn't coming back. However, I'd since seen an image of it compared to the standard body on instagram and realised it would be far too disproportionate for me, so I don't mind too much myself.

 

Now I got both Mann and Sho.

Blossom, my Mann, got a new feather wig, as the first one I made looked scraggly at best. This time I had better feathers and a better glue gun so it suits her better too!

Sho I am tentatively naming Tavin, and he will get a new face up soonish. His current face up isn't bad, but it's not what I'd want for him.

I also very quickly realized I do not have boy clothing in his size. So he is frilly, but he seems to love it, so it's all good.

I'm in the process of painting Blossom (ever so slowly), so no new pictures of her yet!

Ah thank you! I had to make her a new one as the first was scraggly looking due to having only crappy feathers on hand. But I bought some better ones and I may make her two more wigs, just as back ups.
